View Full Version : Krang is pretty darn evil

So I always find it interesting how people look back at the OT as a goofy fun loving toon. I'll admit there are times where the show is kind of goofy and the villains can be bumbling. However Krang is pretty evil, if somewhat hindered by those around him.
What got me thinking about this was the episode where Baxter became a Fly. In that episode Baxter is mutated because Krang was going to kill him. He threw him in the disintegrator. Now I guess I never noticed that before but as I've gone back and watched things Krangs plans tend to be really dark.
Your sole example of why you think so predates the outright ridiculous episodes though. The biggest season, Season 3, is what gave the show its reputation.

Krang has always been super-evil. He's just very sarcastic and humorous so he doesn't feel like Ch'rell in the 4kids series.

Krang's only really vile in the Archie comics, where he waged genocide on whole planets.

Krang was quite changable through the series, but was probably at his most evil from "The Shredder Is Splintered" through "Return of the Technodrome". Remember, Krang helped Michelangelo save his friends from the Mousers by allowing Shredder to flee so that he could force Krang to get his new body. Then, we see Krang take full advantage of this when he gets his Android body, nearly crushing the Turtles to death. After being stranded in Dimension X, Krang once again shows his evilness by forcing Shredder to do his work by himself on earth, forcing Bebop & Rocksteady to stay at the Technodrome. This continues through Baxter's transformation, and concludes with Krang wanting to destroy the turtles instead of Shredder in the Season 2 finale, forcing Shredder's clan to watch and wait.
But in Season 3, Krang is reduced to just another scientist, mostly assisting Shredder with each new invention, and only appearing on the surface once that season to use his Super Knucklehead. In "The Big Break-In", Krang, while fairly worth in appearance, just didn't seem quite as evil as he did in "The Shredder is Splintered". His voice/personality seemed to be funnier than in the first two seasons. This continues through Season 5. Then in "Krangenstein Lives", we see some of Krang's real evilness return, but then its soon back to the typical "soft spoken sadist" until "Invasion of the Krangenzoids", where all the Krang Clones attempt to get even with the turtles, which is soon followed by the defeat of his android body in "Shredder Triumphant", which seems to be placed in a garbage room in the Technodrome as Krang himself never uses it again after that episode. As the Red Sky era begins, Krang clearly seems much less evil than Shredder does, and seems to be reduced to a secondary villain with all of the new bad guys of Red Sky.

Gobo I hadn't watched the series in a while. Totally forgot about things like that though. I'm trying to watch through the whole series again. Like right now I'm on the episode where the Frogs show up. I love the Frogs. But that is neither here nor there.
Krang betraying Shredder simply because Shredder would not give him a body is down right manipulative.
I think the fact that the over all tone of the show was toned down the fact that he did all these things was over looked. I guess it just shocked me that Baxter was created because Krang was trying to kill him.

That whole thing with Baxter in the disposal chamber was pretty sinister!

I remember in the episode Turtles on Trial Krang was in that huge battle droid outside Channel 6 where he shot that blowhard Kellerman out the window. If it wasn't for Michaelangelo, that guy would've been street pizza!

Hm, it makes sense. I really have to get all the OT dvd's again. I'm reluctant, though, because I don't want to buy them all again, then Lionsgate release a box set with every dvd in it.

I don't think we will ever see one hugh box set from Lionsgate. As much as a lot of people would like that it seems like a long shot. I mean look at how long it has taken to get the whole series as it is.
I makes me wonder how horrible he had to be to have his body removed.

I love Archie Krang as a villain. Entire sectors of Dimension X were destroyed just because he saught the Turnstone.

I remember in Turtles to the Second Power, Lord Dregg was planning to transport pieces of the sun to earth and Krang told him "you're mad!" as if he thought it was so evil, he'd never do it himself.

You're probably right, but usually if they don't start with a box set, they do one later. It's more profitable to split the DVD releases up. Now once all the single seasons are out, they could offer the box later and not miss on any revenue.

In Season One, he was also more manipulative, untying Michaelangelo in 'A Better Mousetrap' out of spite for Shredder not completing his body. But that element seemed to dropped after that. I really thought Krang was at his best in Season 2, being more sinister and ruthless than in later seasons, though he still had a couple of funny lines, but the humour was a bit darker than in later seasons. For example, to Bebop and Rocksteady, "I enjoy seeing both people and animals suffer, and you my friends are both."

It's "A Thing About Rats" in that show.

Krang sure showed he knows how to be strict and stubborn in Season 2, especially at the beginning. He wouldn't help Shredder with nothing, he can't have his foot soldiers, he has to open a portal to Dimension X to prove he's worthy, even shrinking the entire city wasn't good enough for him.

And I love the Shredder-Krang relationship during season 2, especially in the "Mean Machines" episode when Krang asks Shredder "Have you taken care of the turtles?".
