Viacom may drop Nickelodeon on DirecTV

I was facing the same problem a few months back with Son's of Anarchy. Thankfully, FX and all came to a conclusion.

I'm glad my household switched over to FiOS several months ago, and while I thought DirecTV was pretty good, now I can see how corporate greed is weighing in over fun programming. If the deal isn't worked out soon, a potential domino effect could happen. Since Viacom is the biggest cable provider, a bunch of other things could happen: either more companies drop their bunches of channels, or across-the-board cable/satellite price increases as a result of this deal. Unfortunately, this is a casualty of TV struggling to be the preferred source of watching TV to the Internet, and Viacom's networks also tend to have a younger audience who tend to set the trends first, citing that their ratings have dropped, and that may be because more and more viewers are watching online instead of on the tube, which seems like a dinosaur to them. This makes me worried for the new TMNT a bit.

I think Viacom tends to get involved in cable service provider disputes just about every 4 years or so.

This is a shame. Nowadays if a cartoon isn't on Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon it's usualy ignored by the public and Direct TV is pretty popular. It may get a cult following online, like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, but everyone else will be clueless to it's existence. Also back when I had Direct TV I only got two kids channels, Nick and CN. So does that mean Cartoon Network will be the only channel for kids then? I bet Turner Broadcasting is crossing their fingers, chanting "Please, Please, Please...". Atleast they still show the classic Looney Tunes...just no Pepe Le Pew or Speedy Gonzales.

The official Nick site gave this link to encourage kids to stop this. Apparently if this isn't settled, aliens will probe Cartman's ass. I wasn't expecting a site for kids to link to a video with the word ass in it.

Nickelodeon is DirecTV's most popular channel (http://blog.viacom.com/2012/07/directv-to-drop-26-viacom-channels-at-midnight-on-tuesday-july-10/). So it would be crazy on both sides if an agreement cannot be reached...

Yeah, I know. This is frustrating, but DirecTV has done this before with other channels, and deals have always worked out. If a deal isn't reached, then people will just switch to Dish Network and DirecTV will lose customers. So, I have a feeling some deal will be reached before the new TMNT show comes out.

Well, I just hope they reach a deal soon. I thought that Viacom was the one who wanted the viewers to pay more to watch those channels and that DirecTV was trying to negotiate so that the viewers don't have to pay 30% more on their bill to watch said channels. And if a deal isn't reached, then I guess we'll be switching to Dish.

Ugh. And I saw that Viacom has their "Kids, blame DirecTV for taking Nick shows away from you!" propaganda video airing before their TMNT video clips.

These corporations behave like spoiled children and then try to work the poor victimized consumer into a fit to gain sympathy for their side. Traditional TV, as much as I like it, is probably a sinking ship anyway. Everybody would be better off if the corporate moguls figured out a way to work together AND entice the consumers rather than alienating us.
