View Full Version : Why do people not make a big deal out of Casey meeting the Turtles before April?

In all incarnations April is the Turtles first human friend. However in IDW Raph meets Casey first, and then at the end of issue #4 Casey sees the three other Turtles. Meanwhile they don't meet April until issue #8-9.

Does anyone else think this gets overlooked?

I guess(maybe I'm wrong) nobody has noticed it yet. Doesnt bother me all that much though.

Good freaking Lord, are you going to gripe over every little change they make to the mythos with this comic? If you don't like how IDW does their version of the TMNT, then quit reading it!!!

Where on earth do you get that I don't like the IDW series? I've pretty much given it glowing reviews in almost every review thread.

I really wonder if you have difficulty comprehending peoples views on the internet.

Why should anyone care? It's clearly a new version of the turtles, why should it matter if something is different from previous incarnations?

I noticed, I just didn't see it as a big change. I think they helped establish a special bond with Casey and Raph by introducing him first, I mean Raph met Casey before his own brothers.

It doesn't bother me at all. I mean in the end they are both there. And if you want to get technical April did meet them first, she named them.

I hate to gripe, but now that I think about it....April (to me) is only there for the turtles bc of Casey.....What if things between Casey and April blow up???Wouldn't April just leave the turtles???? thats the only reason that it bothers me....

I understand that its a new approach to the mythos to freshen things up a bit. It's not too far off so it doesn't bother me. It's not like they did something drastic like changing the characters name to Muazah Aziz just to try to appeal to other ethnic groups.

April named the Turtles so she'll probably feel more like a mother figure to them.

This didn't bother me so much, because yeah she "met" them before anyway. I didn't care for the fact that she knew them when they were regular Turtles. They were like her pets. It kind of changed the dynamic to me, but it's not the end of the world.

I feel like IDW randomly changed some things just so they could say they were doing stuff different, as opposed to some other stuff that feels more organically different and less window dressing changes.

like many have stated here... i don't think what idw is doing with the april/turtles dynamic is too much of a stretch. i am okay with the time frame in which the turtles met april... she did appear in the first issue. so i'm okay with that. to be honest... i prefer this dynamic over the "you saved my life... now we can be friends" angle. despite that being the original... this gives april a more concrete standing in the turtles mythos (having named and met them when they were regular turtles). so i'm not so bothered that casey met them in action first. other than that... it still feels the same as the original to me...

Um...because it's not a big deal, maybe...

I like the change. I've kind of always imagined Raph as having a bit of a secret life.

Good point sir, good point. Yes, I don't see the big deal. April's relationship to the Turtles never interested me much to begin with, so the fact that she met them (mutated) after Jones doesn't bother me one iota.

Actually April met the turtles long before Casey. She was there when all 4 turtles are in the med lab aquarium. She handles them, names them, and feeds them all before Casey is introduced. Sheesh - if you are going to nit-pick the comic then I am going to nit-pick your nit-pick....

I could've sworn you stated that you weren't happy with the series when it first started coming out last year. I guess I got confused because you ALWAYS seem to be complaining about something!

In 4kids Casey meets them first too. The episode called "the lesson" where they teach him to stand uo for himself as a kid. It just kind if shows its not a big deal.

People aren't making a big deal because it's not a big deal. Plus she did meet them first in their pre-mutated form :P Also because she was working at the lab she's connected to them another way than just being the first human to befriend them
