I hope this hasn't been posted yet, but I just found this on amazon:

Tales of the TMNT volume 1 (http://www.amazon.com/Tales-Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles/dp/1613774168/ref=sr_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1342450283&sr=1-9&keywords=ninja+turtles)

It contains the first four issues of volume 1 and it looks like it will be available November 27.

I might pick this up.

I hope they include the old TMNT frontispiece a from Mirage's 2007 collection.

And since this is 1-4, the second should include 5-7 and the Spinal Tapped story giving both collections an equal 4 issues.

I hope IDW is aware of the 2007 Mirage collection.

It feels weird splitting up the first volume of the Tales of the TMNT. Still if they keep in line with the whole 4 issues a book thing then we could have all the tales in roughly 20 volumes

Do we really need this? Mirage already did this like 2 times!

Well, if they're splitting it into 2 volumes, hopefully the second one will have the bonus stuff like "Spinal Tapped" and the Nobody short and maybe "Survival Game" since it was branded a Tales of the TMNT promo strip.

Bisecting the series for $20 a pop seems a little thin on content for cash, otherwise.

Amazon still can't spell Jim Lawson right. :trazz:

I have mixed feeligns about this, but overall I like the idea because it's putting the old stuff into the public, whereas the Treasury Edition was not as readily available as the original Tales collection.

Couldn't be less interested sadly but I suppose it's good it's out there for anyone who doesn't have these issues. It wouldn't be a bad idea to collect some well picked Tales v.2 issues though like Mirage tried to.

Argh, I'll get this, although I'm a little miffed at paying for two volumes when I already have the 2007 collection.

Also, I was hoping IDW might reprint the 2007 frontispieces and epilogue, since I don't want those to be lost to time, but it seems unlikely if they're splitting the issues up. Could someone please suggest they include them as bonus content, if they aren't already planning to? IDW people, are you reading my words on your screen?

Reading the contents of these 2 trades makes me disapointed that I'm not getting them. I mean with Tales TPB being split seems just stupid. The whole series was 7 issues and that can't even be put into one book? The other trade is just for 3 issues? I agree that maybe IDW couldn't even get a deal with Rich Vietch to reprint his stuff (yet or eventually?). If he is still not allowing his stuff to be reprinted, whats his problem? Doesn't he want to make some reprint royalty? Whats his beef? I'm assuming the reprint payment because of how IDW handled the Dave Sim/Cerebus issue. Like whats up with Vietch these days anyway?

Well, as a new collector I will definitely be picking these up.
I don't get what the big pain is whether it's in one or two volumes. If they cram all 7 issues into one, it will be bigger and probably twice the cost.
Either way, I just want a copy of the stories.

I won't be getting this never really liked Tales that much.

I won't be getting this never really liked Tales that much.

The original Mirage 7 issue run of Tales was almost consistently excellent. The only "meh" issue was the first one with Cousin Sid.

This is the series that introduces Rat King, Leatherhead, Nobody, Complete Carnage, and has the Turtles travel back in time for their first dinosaur adventure with Renet Savanti.

This series was practically the most important spinoff ever.

We're getting a little off track, but I don't think it's blasphemous to dislike the first volume of Tales.

In fact, outside of several notable character introductions, the somewhat fun "Return of Savanti Romero" and the excellent "I, Monster," I'm not particularly fond of these issues either. The rest are pretty breezy and somewhat boring, and pacing issues abound. Probably my least favorite era of Lawson's art, too.

Thanks for the link! My Mirage/Image collection is sporadic so I will pick these up eventually. $20 for 132 pages is steep however.

To me its just stupid for Tales TMNT from IDW. Releasing a short run series collection and split it into 2 books. You actually would probably pay less if it was the complete run then paying for two books at the same cover prices. I just found out IDW is doing the Star Trek TNG/Dr Who 8 part series into two book trades. Like WTH's wrong with them? Do the whole series and not make people wait and pay for another book for the rest of the story. Complete a run instead of half ass it. This is why I can't get the TMNT Adventures books from them. Four issues for $17-$20/book every time?

They seem to be hung up on 4-issue TPBs. I agree that it's ridiculous.

Hopefully the "Spinal Tapped" story is included in the second trade which will make an even 4 issues for both. I can't see the second trade having only 3 issues so I imagine that's what they're going to do.

They could always pad it out with random artwork or a cover gallery like they did with the current ongoing trade.

I am sure IDW knows about the Spinal Tapped story in the 2007 collection.

Hardcore fans might not need it, but anything that might attract other comic book readers to TMNT is good IMO.

Plus the Mirage stuff always went out of print so quickly, so I'm sure there are TMNT fans that don't have it yet.

I'm new to the comics, so I don't have the material. So, yes, I need it. I'm excited to get a chance to read it down the road.

Bobby Curnow confirmed on the IDW boards that this will be an all colour release. I understand that they are trying to appeal to today's comic book fans and there is a fear that people wouldn't want to buy a black and white comic book, but when they are releasing the Ultimate Collections in the original black and white but the supplemental materials (Tales, Non-Eastman and Laird stories) in colour it just turns me off to buying the supplements. Maybe its just me but I would prefer uniformity between my books.

I was on the fence about buying this because I have the Treasury Edition and the only thing that was enticing about it was having the original Frontispieces, but with the annoucement of colour its just seems like purchasing this is less and less worth it.

Eh, it could be worse. Could be color with rainbow masks.

Since Mirage reprinted a Tales collection in 2007, its not a big deal. Track that one down, or even the older one from 1989.

Rainbow masks would be a no for me but colour would be the incentive to make me purchase these stories again. Although I wouldn't be crazy about different flash tones either which IDW seems to like.

I already have the Treasury Edition, I was just going to get for the old Frontispieces and to support the series so that maybe we can get some of the second Volume of Tales printed.

Since the first Tales will have 4 issues...the only way the second one will have 4 issues is if they include the "Spinal Tapped" story from the 2007 collection, which itself was the length of a full issue.

Hopefully that's the case.

Well since people who work at IDW read these forums, I figure saying it over and over again would make them notice. ;)
