A comic to go along with the show

And an unofficial announcement: I was able to confirm with Tom Waltz that IDW will be publishing a TMNT series to tie-in with the new Nickelodeon cartoon, although there is no projected time table for when we can expect to see that.

I think it'll be new stories but set into continuity with the Nick show. I don't see then spawning a new universe like Archie did especially if they're using the same designs from the show.

i'd also like to see differing storylines, and maybe a better ability to do crossovers with different universes. That'd be sick.

I hope it goes the Archie route by adapting the first several episodes and then going its own path, since that in effect would form another all-new universe. But the problem is that kids nowadays don't seem to enjoy comics books like '80s and '90s kids do due to an increase in technology/alternative forms of play. I would assume though that they would need apps that can be announced during commercial breaks/bumpers since today's kids feel that reading books by paper is an artifact to them, and those who grew up in the '80s/'90s are not the target audience of this comic.

My ultimate suggestion however is work up a story line that meets the Archie Turtles at the end of issue #72 and have a storyline of a few issues that can serve as a finale to that series by finally defeating the "original" Shredder and Krang; it would sort of be the Turtles Forever of the junior comics.

Admittedly I can see your point. I was actually happy when Dreamwave got canceled simply because I didn't want it to be a huge 7-year spanning epic like the Archie series was.

I am actually greedy like that, I'd prefer something to die if I don't want another universe being born.

I hear that. It's not even totally a money thing for me, but definitely a space concern. I already have upwards of 300 TMNT comics (Not to mention Ghostbusters, Batman and a few other things) with no end in sight for the current IDW book.

Plus they wouldn't be on the same release schedule, so that would mean even more trips to the comic shop, unless I controlled myself lol.

Well since IDW is doing the cartoon comic, and sales start declining, obviously IDW would cancel this comic rather than their main on-going continuity.

Bobby already said the Color Classics will probably end soon due to declining sales, and not make it past #11 at best.

I'm excited to have another comic coming out. I mean it is great to be a TMNT fan right now. This is the closest we will get to a true second "Turtlemania". I'm just curious if the comic will follow the show or do what Archie did and tell original stories.

I think Nick might not want the cartoon comic to stray too far from the episodes. IDW has their own series for that...its possible though the cartoon comic will fit into continuity with the series.

At the time Archie was going on so was the Mirage and Image. So the idea of another original comic isn't far fetched. I'm hoping that it isn't just photos of the show with the text.

And back then Mirage had no contact with Fred Wolf because they stopped listening to them. Its no surprise Archie went off in a new direction especially since Murphy worked for Mirage at the time.

This time around Nick keeps tight control over the comics, every IDW comic script has to be seen for Nick for approval. Bobby and Tom Waltz confirmed that Nick can and already has rejected some of their story ideas.

Supposedly, if you use your eyes to look around, and scan over the words assorted over the span of several pages or less, you can learn things! I bet if you can find the courage to try reading for yourself, you might for once actually know what's going on around you! Check it out, dude!
