Just found this. Still not crazy about Kuhn's TMNT based on this cover, but we'll see.

"(W) Tom Waltz, Kevin Eastman (A) Andy Kuhn (CA) Kevin Eastman, Andy Kuhn
Something has escaped Stockgen labs and is hunting the Turtles. Its unrelenting and deadly force compel the Turtles to question how far they'll go to defend themselves... and stretch the brothers' bonds to the limit! "

I love the "gimmick" of the cover, kinda draws the eye, but the actual quality of art is a little ghastly. A little teeth-heavy?

Not really digging this cover... it looks too busy. Like they went way overboard with the police tape. I hope the interior art gets better.

God, those colors are... atrocious.
All I can say is this- Just wait until you see Kuhn's variant for #15. Then, you will be blown away.

why do so many IDW artists draw the turtles with rabbit teeth? I swear... it really annoys me
Still looking forward to the issue

So Kuhn did the A cover for #15, as well as the RI cover?

omg, yes they are. i'm actually starting to like his rendition of the turtles. minus the teeth though. i think the teeth are a major distraction. i hope as he draws them more, he will begin to draw the teeth a little more natural looking.

i remember Duncan's Turtles used to be rather teethy when he started out. maybe, and hopefully, he'll get better. but i'm still not liking how they look like so far.

Kuhn did another cover. It's a variant that features heavy spoilers, which is why you've not yet seen it. I only got a glimpse of it by flipping through his art book at a convention. :D There's a possibility it was 16's cover but I'm pretty positive he said it was a variant for 15.

I don't mind the colors, but the red background is kind of distracting. It feels more like its clashing with the rest rather then helping it out.

I hope the art on the cover doesn't reflect the interior story because if it does...

I think IDW made a mistake here.

True, but when he did away with the teeth, the tops of their heads elongated to alien proportions. He replaced one oddity with another.

Haha, the penis-head mutant ninja turtle look always befuddled me. :tlol:
I would actually put my thumb over the top's of the Turtles' heads and imagine them beign drawn with more "normal" heads. Doing that, Duncan's TMNT wasn't that bad.

Oh c'mon man, they're an eyesore. I'm seldom critical of this book artwise, but that color job is one of the most lackluster things I've ever seen professionally printed.

Solicitations for #15 have Cover A (Kuhn), Cover B (Eastman), and Cover RI (Kagan McLeod) which is labeled as the "Infinite Kung-Fu Variant" cover (whatever that means).

Kagan McLeod did a graphic novel called 'Infinite Kung-fu' (which is great, pick it up). I suspect something got lost in translation there. It's just a standard, um, ninja variant.

I hope that IDW replaces Andy Kuhn as the primary artist for the TMNT series soon. He is talented enough and all but I absolutely detest his depiction of the turtles, I think that he draws all of the other characters quite well but not the turtles. He would have been a good selection for the upcoming Secret History of The Foot Clan mini-series where the turtles won't be involved.

A new artist is replacing him for #17 and is going to be the new long-running artist ala Dan Duncan.
Andy Kuhn was always meant to be a short fill-in artist.

Yeah, its been known since about the time #14 came out. I hope it will not become a habit under the new artist. Think of if as the perfect push back date because the freaks come out on Halloween so why not let the rebel mutant turtle make a comeback on Halloween?:twink:

Interesting that Slash reminds me a bit more of Tokka than Slash at this point though.

I think Andy Kuhn's art looks better in this issue than the previous two as well. Honestly the first few pages look so similar to Duncan...it must be the coloring.

I have to agree that his art is getting a bit duncany. His turtles are still ugly though. And i gotta say... im hating how un-slash-like that turtle looks. Sigh. Im getting that feeling where you forget just who that character is supposed to be.

Well, a mash-up with Tokka and Slash could be an interesting idea, maybe it's THEIR idea.

I really liked Duncan. He left at the point where he really found his style for the book and where his turtles really started to look cool ( at least for me ) So i am sorry not just cause that he left, but cause that he left at a point to hope more work from him ( tho ofc this is better compared to opposite, i mean leaving without contributing anything to the turtle mythos )
I do not like Kuhn much , but can live with it.
...but based on that saturated cover of the new artist ( where Old Toon look is uber dominant and Krang looks "exactly" like the OT Krang, not an Utrom ) i have a feeling i would be selecting Kuhn in an instant if asked for a choice.
That cover is the worst cover "for my taste" when all the IDW issues considered.

I forgot to mention, but I did really like the idea of Mike being the more pacifistic one. I know Don has been played up that way more in the past, but this one seems to be more "coldly analytical," which works for his character too. But Mike would easily be the least excited about killing, in my opinion. It's a nice little development for him that adds to the underlying theme of what the turtles must do to survive. It didn't sound too interesting at first, but the execution in this issue was pretty well done. It's all part of growing up, Mikey.

Kuhn's slash was great, and his humans are top notch. My only beef with his art is all of the big teeth he gives the turtles, it doesn't bother me as much as I think it bothers others, and I think #15 is definitely his best issue. His art keeps getting better with every issue, and I dig his style but sometimes his turtles can look a little goofy.
