I'm sure by now most of you have already seen the cover to this month's previews;

I know most people here are big fans of Kevin Eastman's art, and wanted to share this with you

And a better quality close up

I first saw this cover at the MCM event in London back in May and absolutely feel in love with it but didn't have enough money on me. Fortunately it didn't sell on the day and I was able to contact Kevin via his website and purchase it after the show. I'm proud to say this is the first piece of original comic art I've bought. I've got a few sketches before (including a great one of Leo from Kevin at the MCM event) but never any cover or interior art. It's expensive so I certainly won't be making a habit of it, but in this case it was well worth it.
I originally held off posting it (I received the piece in June) as I didn't know which issue of Previews it was being used for and IDW hadn't revealed it so I didn't want to step on anyones toes. Hope you all like it. IMO it looks much better in B&W with Kevin's original drawing of the Nick TMNT, but I'm a little bias :tlol:

That is the coolest. How much did you end up spending on it?
Wow that is a great piece.
Expensive or not, I too would want that in my collection.
Nice find.

Very cool! While I have yet to pickup any of Eastman's recent work for IDW, I really have been digging the new look. The thing is, for me at least, most of his recent covers look very similiar to each other (4 turtles posing). Those covers that break away from that formula (like the collected books i.e.) I can get behind and a piece like this, which is obviously very different as well, was very well bought. Congrats and enjoy!

Shame they didn't actually use Eastman's Nick Turtle art. That looks awesome too. Probably wanted it to be uniform to the actual Nick style guide or something. Nice grab.

Bad ass. I love Kevin's art.
Also, feels good to see headlines like "Once again stars of print...and screen!" It's a great time to be a TMNT fan. :tgrin:

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone!

If you don't mind I'd rather not say :twink:
Nice find.
If I remember right Kevin had just finished it before coming to London, so I was probably one of the first to see it (I was second in the autograph line so I got to look through his portfolio whilst the first guy was speaking with Kevin and getting his Ultimate Collections signed/sketched).
I just can't believe how lucky I am that it didn't sell on the day. I knew that it would go pretty much straight away when he got back to the States (if not then it would have for sure at SDCC) so I emailed him pretty much the next day. Best art find of my life!
Shame they didn't actually use Eastman's Nick Turtle art.
Yeah, I agree. It gives the piece a more uniform look all being in Kevin's style, but I can understand why they did use the CG models.
One thing I get from the B&W piece much more than the finished cover is the feeling of the passing of the torch. The orginal TMNT are still there, watching over the Nick TMNT, but the spotlight is now on the Nick TMNT. Of course that comes from me viewing the comic TMNT as the Mirage TMNT in B&W whilst the color piece makes it clear they are the IDW TMNT. But I saw the B&W piece first so that impression has really stuck with me.

And I've suddenly worked out what the concept art is for that I picked up at the same MCM event where you first saw your piece! (The right hand sketch of the 2 shown below)
I probably saw your art too, but like you didn't have enough money at the time (it was quite expensive and I'd like to be able to buy a new house at some point in my life). Still, glad you got something you liked. I'm jealous!
Now I just need to find a copy of that issue of Previews for my collection.

Yeah, it was seeing you post that the next day that made me realise just how much I did love the piece and take another look at my savings for it. So, thank you :D

Chris - glad my purchase inspired you, although you may not be thanking me later on when you have bills to pay etc!
TurtleTitan97 - the same piece of art also came with a couple other versions too. I'm just happy I've finally worked out what they were for as I forgot to ask Kevin at the time!

Let's just say I'll be repaying my savings account for at least the next 8 months
Those other versions are awesome!! I love the idea of doing the classics in Duo Shade and the Nick TMNT in color, and the use of the Vol. 1 poses (even mirrored) in sketch 4 is fantastic. Really nice set, bet they would look great all framed together.

Funny you should say that...
Currently hanging on my hall wall along with various other bits of original art.
