View Full Version : TMNT Comic Images
I don't recall wether there has been an comic image thread before (I think there was, but I couldn't find it)
Either way -- why not have an image thread for TMNT Comics? 4kids, Nick, and the 80s cartoon all have threads, and there's a bunch of awesome images all over the net. (I've collected some images over the years, so I thought I'd share the comic-ones I have. If any of them came from this board, though, I simply can't remember which ones they would be.)
And so it doesn't get lost - can this thread be made sticky, so people can see whats been added, and possibly contribute themselves. (It's just a suggestion. Just I've enjoyed the image threads in the other sections a lot, and would like to see the same for the original Comics.)
I've been collecting these images for many years - so I don't always know where they came from, or which artist did them. I'll try and credit the creators I recognize.
Whenever possible, list the artist name, and what website it came from. Also maybe what issue it came from. If you don't have all the information, at first, then try your best; if you're unsure of any of these, you can post the image and ask - and edit the post after getting an answer.
Also, please don't post several pages of story; we don't want to give the mis-impression that this thread is posting material for pirated use. Just use common sense.
The most recent images, which I've scoured of late, I can at direct you to for some of the images.

One thing that would probably really help this thread is to also list the artist for the art that you post. Helps spread the name and teaches something at the same time.

I love Jim Lawson's art.Probably one of the most prolific and controversial artists in TMNT history, but man, I dig it too. Those images remind me of how much I love the first few issues of Volume 4, with Jim penciling and Laird on inks (and tones!). I think they're in solid running for some of the best-looking Mirage issues.
Don't always know the names. How are you finding the art, then? They should always be credited in the issue or whatever blog or site you're pulling it from.
Also, methinks this thread should be frugal with posting more than one full page from any scene, since, while there's theoretically no harm being done, you are posting the content you're expected to pay for (unlike movie or TV screencaps).

I like the idea behind this thread, I think we just have to make sure we're not posting fan art here. I don't recognize the below as being from any comic.

I don't even care if I am 100% correct. At least I tried.
Pretty close. Only ones I would correct are that none of those images are Charles Wilson. I'm sure you had the Splinter micro in mind, but all of those IDW Splinter images are from the ongoing, so it's actually Dan Duncan's (fabulous) Splinter. The exception is the last one, which is concept art by Andy Kuhn. First and third Karai image is Dan Duncan as well, while the second is also Andy Kuhn.
Also, if anyone can find a high quality scan of the 2 page splash T.C.R.I. building in #4, I would love it! :D Makes a great wallpaper!

It's a pin up from a Tales issue. The work of Fernando Pinto, who did that, a 5 page back up story, a cover, the interior to the TMNT Raphael prequel issue, & a bunch of other stuff.

He has a point, even if the steak isn't real.
Like Powder said, this isn't anything against you, and I'm not participating in some brigade. I just think it would be helpful to everyone on this forum if you label the artist and also link to where you got the image. If you don't know where you got it, no big deal, maybe someone can point you to the original, further enlightening your TMNT education. My suggestion to your thread and quotation of cipher's comment can be interpreted however you want it. If you're still forlorn about it take the red pill and escape this matrix. Because I know what you're thinking, 'cause right now I'm thinking the same thing. Actually, I've been thinking it ever since I got here: Why oh why didn't I take the BLUE pill?

Everything is ok now, I was just over reacting. I was just really depressed yesterday. I'm sorry.
Besides that, might I suggest this thread be started over (one with a sticky) - listing all the parameters and rules. I just didn't expect all this involvement - but if I got the idea rolling, I'm fine if another thread takes over.

I know, I try and not gather up fan art (besides commissions by pro creators) I don't remember what issue it was - but I clearly remember that drawing comes from one of the Tales of TMNT, one of their intro-pieces, or pin-up. I think. Don't know what issue.

Powder knew it was from an issue of Tales, just not sure which one either. As far as starting a new thread, just PM a mod and ask them to help clean up this thread and then just toss in the "rules" into your first post. This could easily become my favorite thread. I will have to dig up some of my favorites and add them as well.

Just joined up for the current series -- I'll use IDW's app to read the issues I missed. (I've read #1, Donetello-micro, and the two-issues of Infestation) I got back issues of #9, 10, 11, and am hoping my shop will deliver in getting a copy of issue #12. And the Leonardo and Casey Micros as well. (If anyone wants to complain that this series is leaning too far towards the 1980s cartoon - that issue certainly seemed to dispel the idea that these issues are made for a younger audience. "Look kids! Child abuse!"
And yeah, I was disappointed to see Duncan go so soon after jumping onboard - but he looks like a good artist, and should do well for the series. One thing I learned to appreciate from Tales of TMNT, seeing different artists - not alway the high-profile guys - you get to see a better detail what makes them unique artist. Plus, it keeps up the series' indy-cred.

Made a mistake, not Raph - instead it's Don and Shadow, by Ross Cambell.
I always get confused when I see Cambell's Shadow; Lawson just draws her so differently, that I barely recognize this other interpretation of her.

I'd like to know - I saw a TPB of this in a comic store. It had this cover, and 3 other editions had different covers, published by Heavy Metal. 25th Anniversary TPB; are that a rare TPB. (I doubt it, since there where 4 copies. Cover price of $20. But since TMNT TPBs can easily become hard-to-find items, I was curious wether I should have picked it up or not.

As for your question regarding the artist of Vol. 3, it was Frank Fosco.

Basicly - are the words real? Or photoshopped? (Either way, it's pretty funny)

The background image is actually by Laird; it's one of his old pre-TMNT pieces. You can find it in Gobbledygook Vol. 2 #1.
The foreground images of the Turtles were cut n pasted over it for the ad. Presumably Laird also drew them, but it's hard to tell for sure.

I haven't seen that Eastman piece of Raph and Casey before, really neat! Love the umbrella!
That City of War piece is actually an unused cover by Peter Laird. Some have suggested using that somewhere in the Ultimate Collection Vol. 4 or 5 and I agree!

I love this one :D
Getting back into TMNTs has re-sparked a related interest: Usagi Yojimbo. I ordered the TPB "Shades of Death" - which has the three issue story "Shades of Green", staring the TMNT! Not in color, though; aparently the pyshical color copies where lost. (I think they just wanted to make Usagi's Mirage issues fit with the rest of the Black and white series)
Whatever - I'm looking forward to it arriving! I decided, why not put the series on my pull list again. Out of luck there, it seems, as the title is on hiatus for the moment. But for a good reason - Stan Sakai is working on another project, which looks like its going to be amazing: 47 Ronin. Not rabbits, but humans this time. Click here for the article (http://www.comicsalliance.com/2012/04/12/dark-horse-47-ronin-stan-sakai-mike-richardson-kazuo-koike/).

The one on the right says Lawson/Eastman. Looks like Kevin's pencils under Lawson's inks, but it's hard to tell.
And the old Leo with the light saber is drawn by Steph Dumais.

Sorry, I mixed up the credit - I did find it at CAF. If you want me to take it down, I will. But that's a darn fine piece -- and it gives such a nice portrait of Stan and Peter's friendship.

That's okay... if there's someway to link back to the original page on CAF, or my profile there, then I wouldn't mind it being added.
I recently bought this issue at Milehighcomics. I always like the Turtles on the farm-stories - and picked this issue because the cover looked good. I didn't expect it to have such impressive art, like here

I also go Tales of TMNT #53 - and was delighted to find it had extra back-up tales -- including one, which when I saw it online (but didn't know what issue it was in) intrigued me so much.

This is the issue that prompted me to go back-issue buying. I've always really liked Shadow in the series - so a second-to-last issue detailing her future (ahem... "POSSIBLE Future") seemed too good to pass up.
The issue really, really lived up to my hopes and expectations. While it didn't give an ending the Vol 4 universe, it left enough mysteries to leave it continuing in your imagination. Plus, Raph as a Sensei is just plain awesome! It seemed very appropriate that his tutelage of Shadow ended up like this. Still, if Vol 4 ever comes back, I'm going to be hoping for the statistically improbable happy ending between the two.

Tales of TMNT #69 (http://www.miragelicensing.com/comics/mirage/talesvol2/69/69.html), Cover by Dan Berger.
------------------------------------------------------
Buying this issue turned out to be a big mistake! I had added it to the checkout list, not realizing that I actually already owned this issue :teek:
Luckily, I was able to make good use of the issue - as I decided to scan the issue into my computer, for use (PERSONAL USE!!!) on my ipad. I would never have been able to do that with my original issue, as it sort of beats to hell the spine of the comic. Since I had two copies, I didn't need to worry about it as much. For all the flattening, the issue survived pretty well. (BTW: I'm only putting up random unconnected images.)
The issue itself is cool; a bit too many convoluted explanations for why evil Utroms would want to clone leather-head; but it did it's job, getting the Turtles in space fighting against an army of rampaging cloned mutant gators! It had a nice emotional element at the end.

Heck, man, every piece of the TMNT Magazine pages that I scanned and posted here and on my Flickr account ended up on somebody else's Flickr page a few months later. I politely suggested he might want to at least give me scan credit for my work, but I think he thought it was too much trouble. :tgrumble:

Is this a real panel? It looks like Vol 2 of Tales of TMNT. There certainly should have been animosity against Bay before the sale to Nickelodeon.
Basicly - are the words real? Or photoshopped? (Either way, it's pretty funny)
It's from tales vol 2 #61. That issue is definitely one of my top 3 favorite TMNT comics.

It's actually from Tales Vol. 2 #50 (#61 was the sequel with art by Lawson).
Great issue, too.

I just double-checked to be sure and it's definitely from #61. #50 was about LH and the the hunter guy from Tales vol 1. The sequel to #50 was #63 (art by Lawson). #61 is, I believe, the third installment of the Noire style arc that started back at #36. You probably confused those two stories, though the artstyle in #50 is pretty awesome and resembles a bit the one featured in #36; so that might be why things got mixed up ^.^

Poor Ninjara... I really thought they had killed her off when I turned to that spread. It's been a while since I've read that issue... hard to believe that they actually used red blood for it too.
Yeah, Archie was quite mature at times, especially for who was picking up the comics, just look in the letters section in the back of the book:teek:

I used the index of Cowabunga Comics for credits, and there is some ambiguity to this: Page 10: KEVIN EASTMAN - Originally designed by Kevin as a cover for the graphic adaptation of "TMNT: The Movie", this drawing has never before appeared in print.-----

Oh, wow. I never knew that Laird ever did art for the Archie series.
Oh, yeah, quite a bit actually!
Eastman & Laird did the initial 3-issue mini-series covers. And I think they either collaborated or alternated on the first 3 issues of the ongoing series. Laird also did the covers (with help from Ryan Brown and maybe others) for issues #32-#45 (and maybe #30) and the cover for the Archie Classics Digest #1, #2, (maybe #5), and #6.
I think E & L might have collaborated on at least one cover for each of the movie adaptations too.

hello mutant friends
i want to share a drawing with you. it's really fresh and soon part of my ever small art collection.
my personal favourite comic artist tony millionaire started a project where he plans to portray himself as a different comic hero every day. i forced him with money to do a ninja turtle. so to say i have now the best possible mix i personally could have ever gotten (i doubt peter laird would draw a drinky crow,... kevin eastman on the other hand likes violence and even did idw... maybe i'll try to contact him)
anyway, that's the story behind it. i'm really happy about it and maybe it makes you smile. a middle aged ninja turtle. http://davidkellner.org/middleagedturtle.jpg
ps: i wasn't sure where to post this, first i thought this thread is purely for images from published comics. but i just see often sketches or unsused covers aswell. please a mod may move if it doesn't fit.

I never cared much for the Archie series; if it looked like that all the time, I'd probably have read more of it.

Can I request an image?
I would love a scan of the panel from TMNT Villains #7 where Bebop and Rocksteady just got shot at and Bebop declares that it "kinda tickled".
It's an awesome panel (the last one of the page) and I love the look and attitude of the image and Bebop's bleeding bullet wounds.
There are a lot of cool panels in this issue but I would love a scan of that image.
I dont really know where I would find it and I haven't tried to see if Bates has a website up...

If I could make a request, I would love to have a good, clean image of the two page spread in the Archie TMNT Adventures #66 where Raphael shot Verminator X - the image on this page of the Adventures #38, #39, and Mutanimals #6 is a GREAT upload and I'd love to have something like that of the spread in #66.

I like the idea behind this thread, I think we just have to make sure we're not posting fan art here. I don't recognize the below as being from any comic.
If you don't know what something is from, just ask. Someone will know.
Just looking for some clarity, but what's wrong with fan art? Those Kuhn and Eastman sketches were never published in a comic, but those are okay?

Figured I'd give this thread a bump, not just because it was awesome in its own right but because I have something of "my own" to share! Lifted from my art thread.
Last week I was given the honor of coloring this piece for famed TMNT comic book illustrator of 25+ years, Jim Lawson. It's a big 'ol splash of notable characters from the Mirage universe. This beauty will be available as a print (in black & white as well, I think) in August, when Jim makes a convention appearance in MA. I would imagine they'll be offered online as well at some point, though I'm unsure at this time. At any rate, this is an especially awesome piece from Jim, a real treat for the eyes as a turtle fan. I'm beyond proud to have gotten to contribute my coloring duties, period, let alone to such a spectacular work of art. The 30th anniversary of these fellas has been so special for me, & things like this make it clear why. Thanks a bunch, Jim, for not only this soul-enriching opportunity, but for damn near 30 years of dedication & creative gold to a property that means so much to millions of people everywhere (me especially)!
