How come no one consider this episode as the darkest one that predates the Red Sky seasons? Okay, Donny hits his head and becomes obsessed with killing Shredder. The music where he talks about hunting Shredder down is creepy and serious. Near the end, Donny almost killed him......WOW! I'm surprised James rolfe didn't bring that up in his TMNT reviews. What are your thoughts on this episode?

I'm guessing he didn't have enough time in the video to include it.

I'm surprised Jame Rolfe didn't do a review of the 2K3 series. He had most of the DVDs.

I Kinda liked that episode. But I guess some people would find it dark.

I would consider the episode dark compared to some of the other season 7 episodes like Combat Land and Atlantis Awakes. I used to think the scene where Raphael said "Incoming!!!" was from a red sky episode.

"Night of the Dark Turtle" is one of my favorite episodes from the OT. I loved how dark the episode was and how it showed Donatello's dark side.

*Ponders whether or not I should draw up some layouts for a "Dark Turtle Returns" fan-comic*

To that I ask, why not? I like it when episodes force the characters to actually fight it out, instead of running away.

I still hate the 'Poor Little Rich Turtle' episode where Shredder had the guys surrounded by Foot Soldiers, and rather than.... oh I don't know... at least TRY to fight their way out... they just stood around joking about how screwed they were until Buffy deactivated all of them.

One of my favourites too. I love that of all the OT characters it's Don that wants to actualy kill the Shredder and comes damn close to doing it.

If you thought this was dark you were probably raised by parents who didn't let you play Pokemon because it was Satanic.

I feel that the writers started to experiment a bit with the darker idea for Season 7, but didn't want to completely abandon the style from the earlier seasons, and feel that beginning the season with a darker episode was a good way to try and convince that the show will be getting more serious and that the Foot will finally be a big threat to the Turtles. That said, with some of the new background music introduced in this episode with some that carried into the Red Sky era and some new sound effects that carried over too, you can definitely tell that the series is starting a paradigm shift with this episode. Though given that the word "dark" is in the episode title, it is to be more expected to be a darker episode and it does deliver itself well. The Dark Turtle is likely a Batman reference, so it may be influenced a bit by B:TAS.

Well... ol' Donny does almost put an end to Shredder's miserable life at some point in that episode.

Granted, it's all played for laughs, but it is still a little surprising.

Great episode!! I love both Tmnt and Batman and I think this is the perfect combination of both worlds. Of course it is dark, and thanks god it is because it is based on Batman.

I believe that writers try to pay homage to Batman (fortunately not the 1966 Adam West series) not only with this episode but with the 1993 Super Don figure and the 1992 Turtlemobile vehicle (same design and almost same colours of the Batmobile from 1992 Batman The Animated Series).

I wish they made the Super Don character as well as the rest of the 1993 new figures (like Sandstorm, Hot Spot, Halfcourt, Mona Lisa) with the cardboard style they used from 1988 till 1992, I mean with the usual three (sometimes two) different drawings of the figure that appeared in the cardboard front and the darker style. That would have added lots of value.

Compared to the other episodes (not counting Red Sky), I do feel that this is definitely a dark episode. Yes, Donny looked silly walking around as "Bat Turtle", but he was on a rampage to literally kill Shredder...not that usual "We have to stop him" stuff. Seriously, there probably weren't any other eps where one of the good guys was out for blood so to speak.

I like the fact that it was Donny that went all psycho, though. Nice to see he definitely had a dark side. Oh, and there is an earlier ep where Donny was in a heated battle with Shredder and looked like he was about stab his bo right through Shredder's skull, but Shredder blocked it off and kicked Donny back. By OT standards, Donny's the dark one. :trazz:

Anyway, this is one of my all time favorite OT eps. I hated the ooc Shredder (probably made him take a backseat to the Triceraton's storyline), but loved Donny for it.

What I like most about that episode is the only appearance in the vintage cartoon of the Triceratons. I wish they had been featured way more than some useless and silly characters, especially considering the large number of episodes.
