View Full Version : What if Red Sky was more awesome?

I'm sorry, but Red Sky, while being slightly less serious than the rest of the show was still far from it, with lame one-liners, not much actual fighting, and all sorts of silly looking monsters and aliens.

What if Red Sky took a more ninja approach, with the Turtles, due to Dregg poisoning the public about them, stuck more to the shadows, jumped across the rooftops and actually did some kick-ass martial arts moves when fighting the bad guys? Would it have blown kids' minds back then? Would it have ignited more interest to make it last longer?

Cause when you really stopped to think about it... the turtles did more action-packed fighting in the arcade games and live action movies than in the show. Would pumping up the action, as well as more ninja-ish stuff have worked back in the day?

Where does this nonsense of not much actual fighting come from? I just rewatched Seasons 8-10 and there is fighting in every episode, and much more than most of Seasons 1-7 on an episode basis.

As for the rest of what you say, it was STILL the OT. The Turtles didn't have to stick to the shadows when all of New York knew they existed, and the aliens were pretty much the same type of characters we got in the older seasons.

Anything + awesomeness = more cooler. Isn't that obvious? O_o

How was red sky not serious?

Still had cheesy one-liners, while the fighting was alot less slapstick, they still relied too much on tossing ropes or Raph throwing his sais 1001 ways. All the aliens and monsters still looked goofy as hell.

As for the shadows... Dregg gave them a reason. He turned everyone in the city against them, and Burne was spreading bad media since he blamed them for destroying the channel 6 building. Yet they still had to find out what Dregg was up to and stop him. In a city that suddenly started to hate them and blame them for Dregg's problems... sounds like a good time to stick to the shadows if you ask me.

Red Sky had its problems, sure, but it was enjoyable for the Turtles being truly active protagonists against their enemies. (If anyone wishes to cite such examples in prior seasons, please do.) Watch Turtle Trek, where the Turtles basically admitted to hunting or stalking Shredder. Contrast that to the Season 3 premiere, when Bebop and Rocksteady drove into the river to escape the Turtles, and Don went, "Nah, I don't want to wade through that muck to get them."

And second what Cubed said. The actions were more or less the same, the darker tone aside.

I noticed the turtles stopped eating pizza in the red sky episodes. Maybe it was because they were trying to keep a low profile while the city considered them the worst criminals.

If Red Sky was more awesome, it wouldn't have sucked as much. I don't know how else to give a reasonable answer to that question. :-?

I do wonder how people would have reacted back then though. Would fans welcome slightly more kick-ass NINJA turtles.... would they be turned off cause they liked it better as a goofier show? I mean... what if there was a fight scene similar to say... when the TMNT and splinter all fought Bishop from 2K3... just replace the characters with the 80's Turtles and Shredder? Would they have welcomed totally sweet kick-ass martial arts, hell, Foot Soldiers that could actually back-flip and put up more of a fight before getting sliced up? Would parents complain cause now the kids show got 'darker'?

I haven't watched Red Sky yet, mostly because in Italy those episodes were aired only in the early 2000s on a local TV and at that time I was pursuing other interests. Do you recommend watching this series? I read that some new villain takes over Shredder and Krang, I looked at a picture and wasn't impressed with him...

Seasons 8 and 10 are two great seasons.

Most of the complaints are about Season 9, due to the heavy use of mutations and the intro of Carter and Dregg, but even then Season 9 is still good watching.

I started to watch Red Sky, I just watched the first two episodes. I have to say I like the turn in atmosphere and character design they tried with this series. Obviously they were trying to exploit the success of Batman Animated.

I don't understand however why Krang in this series is stuck in the walker and has no android body. If I'm not wrong, at the end of "Shredder triumphant" Krang was in his android body when the Technodrome was sent back to dimension X.

Best in-universe explanation I've got is that he simply didn't have the technology to keep the Android body working without access to the Technodrome.

Well in Season 8 after Shredder/Krang return to the Technodrome they obviously leave the Android body there, because that's where the turtles find it again in Season 10.

Season 8 was nice. Wish ""Turtle Trek" was the last episode and season 9-10 declared unofficial.

No, the show going on for 2 more seasons was great.

I feel that CBS was revamping this series as the core audience grew from little kids to older kids/preteens so it could feel a bit more "Grown up." The action moves at a faster pace leaving less time for comedy/jokes, though I'm a bit disappointed in the Turtle Trek battle where the villains seemed to be taken down a bit too easily, especially Bebop and Rocksteady's one hit knockout and Krang not finding the Turtles in time before they escaped. The super-mutations however were the only time in the series in which the Turtles no longer seemed to be straight protagonists and at times struggled to keep peace with each other.

I always felt the writers lost sight of what made the show so enjoyable over the first 7 years, which was all the various characters we got to see from one episode to the next. In season 9 all we got was Dregg and Carter. There was that one badguy Chronos who was obsessed with clocks, but they could've just as easily used him back in season 6 if they had thought him up sooner.

I just wish Season 8 was either 13 or 26 episodes, it was an amazing season and it would have been even better if it were longer.

I saw on your You Tube webesite you wanted the 1994 season to follow Archie more instead.
