View Full Version : Micro-Series.... ends when?
I wanted to find out -- the TMNT Micro-series. Does anyone know when the series will end? I'd really like to know adding TMNT to my pull list won't mean a permanent 2ed title along with it. Has IDW said when it might end?
I know they must be running out of characters; After April and the Fugitoid - who's next? They seem to like doing it in chunk of 4 - so.... Karai, Krang, Shredder... that white fox?
I didn't see another micro-series entry listed in the November Solicits for IDW (http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/08/17/avatar-boom-dynamite-and-idw-solicitations-for-november-2012/).
I know IDW said they had a lot of success with the micro-issues -- and thats why it was extended. They said it would be like Tales of the TMNT (which the issues have been like that). But eventually doesn't it just have to become "Tales of the TMNT" - and make a 2ed title offical. At least that way I know I'm signing on for two books.
I sure hope this isn't another Turtle...

It's either Slash or Tokka! If it's Slash I hope they include his obsession with palm trees. :D

I think we'll continue to get micros until they decline in sales. I think they've been selling well.

I hope to see it stick around! I really like that the micro series gives a variety of artists a chance to shine.

Since the biggest complaint about the IDW on-going is the slow pacing, the micros really help speed development along.

Agreed. Kinda funny how this somewhat mirrors the Volume 4 and Tales Vol. 2 situation where most preferred the sister series over the main one. Still, I like how the two IDW series tie into each other a little more.

Tales Vol. 2 tied directly with all three Mirage Volumes at different points in the continuity, but I see what you mean: having one consistent timeline with the occasional offshoot offering character insight or situational predicament.

yeah, that is funny. Although, i think i prefer volume 4 to tales volume 2, strangely enough.

I think the difference is much like Tales, the micros give us a complete story from beginning to end. Its not stretched out over several months, we have a full one-and-done story...besides the continuity which leads to stuff later on.
With the ongoing, you're basically reading this long story arc that goes on for 4-5 months...and people tend to lose interest because well...it takes 5 months to finish a story arc.
Micros and one-shots don't have that problem, which is why I think people prefer them.

exactly... the pacing of a single micro is fluid until the end of the book. it doesn't rely on a follow-up. however it's no longer just a MICRO-series. Oh and regarding that #16 Campbell cover... the shape already implies a turtle. a big one... unless they purposely misled us by making the censor a turtle shape and it's really bebop and rocksteady or someone else! hah! that would be clever.

i like them both. though once the major arch is over in the regular series, i would like to see the archs broken down to 3 months with the occasional one-&-done issues in between.

Slash??? I've enjoyed the book a whole lot so far, but nothing has really got me pumped and excited. This is doing it, having Slash back in the actual book, large and in charge? I cannot wait for this! Add Metalhead, Bebop and Rocksteady, and this is the perfect TMNT book IMO.

I seriously regret my misgivings in the past about the Mirco issues before they came out. They're really great to read and I love how each issue has a different artist!

How is it not a Micro-series. The whole joke is that a mini-series runs about four issues but if you did 4 issues worth of mini-series into one book it would be a micro-series.
So far they all focus on one character as book one of one in a one book micro-series

yes... but the series itself is more of an regular series now. pumps one out every month. i'm not complaining. i love the books... but a MICRO-series isn't supposed to last that long. just saying.

It's true. I guess technically you could say its technically a series of micro-series?!

I hope they go on for some time. I think Ross Cambell brought up the idea of doing secondary micros for the Turtles for, "Year Two."
Like say Micro #9 could be another Leonardo one, and then #10 another Raphael one...but this time be about them during the "Year Two" timeframe and so forth.

I would absolutely love if they had "Year Two" Micros. I'd especially want to see how Leo handles himself when alone in a year two situation. That fight with Splinter at the rooftop and the subsequent rematch in #12 are probably one of my favorite moments of IDW's series. Especially the dialogue.

There are still many characters that could be featured in a micro-series issue. I also think it is a great thing to have when they introduce a new character; it is great to give a back story that might not fit or would distract from the ongoing series. Also, having another Leo or Raph issue would be great because I am sure they go out on their own from time to time and this is a nice way to explore their individuality.
As much as I liked Tales Vol 2, I prefer the micro-series format IDW is currently doing.

Here is what Bobby answered today about future micros.
Hi Louis,
Foot Clan mini series will run December through March. Next round of Micros isn't formally announced, but indeed-- I have an eye for starting right back up in April. I'm sure I'll have more to say about that in a couple months.
And thanks for your kind words!

Yeah it looks to me like there's not gonna be a second ongoing but they're gonna try always having a limited running at the same time.

Loko how long it took IDW to actually give Transformers a regular ongoing! The Turtles got off easy by getting an ongoing right out of the gate. :tsmile:

Let's see if we can get confirmation on it being villain centric! It is the next logical step. The only question is which villains to focus on?

Thanks!Suspicion confirmed. Now,we need to narrow it down with an educated guessing game. We have a possibility of...Shredder,Krang,Baxter Stockman,Karai,Old Hob,Slash, Apolex, and I am sure atleast one more by then and there is always going back to Bebop and Rocksteady.

Pretty exciting! I think there's no doubt that Krang and Baxter Stockman are getting a Micro. The Shredder would have been another obvious one, but now I'm not sure if the Foot Clan mini-series counts.
I think Alopex and Old Hob have a good chance because they are a) original IDW characters and b) have virtually no development so far. I'd be okay with either!

In broad strokes, yeah, but they could certainly both do with the kind of fleshing out this would give them. I'm willing to like Hob as a villain (or even a redeemed hero), but I'd really like to see more from him. Alopex has the whole mystery thing going for her at the moment, but that will only last so long.

I'd like to see an April O'Neil miniseries at some point, like Archie. The last micro-series issue left me wanting to read more stories from her POV.
