ok, so before anyone gets their panties in a bunch yelling at me that it's not like my first RC custom, these are a SIMPLIFIED version. i did not do a complete overhaul like i usually do. but hey at least you get all four brothers this time and they still look pretty good :D
ever since i first saw the designes for the new TMNT toon (especially the toys) i had a gut feeling that the designer was heavily influenced by Ross Campbell's art. Ross has been drawing his turtles in a similar maner since at least 2007 when he did the incredible covers for "Raphael: Bad Moon Rising" for Mirage. withouth doing a complete overhaul (like i did with my last Campbell custom), i wanted to mod a few things to highlight the likeness. i based the colors and style off Ross' most recent works in which he has been doing a lot of colored masks and pupils. although, one of the most obvious changes i made was to change Leo's expression. Ross pointed out that it was a kind of awkward grimmace. part smile, part sneer. it didnt really fit leo, so i changed it to a more in control/serious look. this is only my second ever group customization of the turtles. my first and most likely only of a particular artist's rendition group shot. hope you guys enjoy :)
PS- for those who are curious here's a complete list of mods that i did.
resculpt leo's mouth, shave down and resculpts all the wraps, remove finger wraps, filled in raph's platron crack, add chains to mikey's chucks, smooth out some of the blockiness of leo's blades, remove the loop from donnies shoulder strap, add tails, resculpt two toed feet, enlarge the masks, nick up the belts and masks, paint everything from head to toe and add pupils to their eyes.

As much as I didn't mind Leo's half smile and half sneer, I must say, he looks awesome, Plasticplayhouse.:tcool: All of them, actually, look awesome. Ross Campell is a good artist, and the turtles should start looking like these ones in future comics. Keep up the good work.:tgrin:

Hands down my favorite customs that you've done. All of your work is fantastic, but these take the cake; most likely because Ross is my favorite TMNT artist.
They all came out awesome!

You nailed it! The new Nick turtles have the proper base for R.C.'s style, and the TWO TOE FIX is perfect. The amount of work you put into these is awesome. The knee and elbow pads become wraps, which is 100% consistent with his style, not to mention the modified bandannas and painted pupils. AWESOME WORK!

Great work- I recently read the IDW Micros, and was basically hoping you'd make a set out of the Nick Turtles after I read the Leo issue. You don't dissapoint!

Turtletitan97, samhain, raph the dude, spitfire, powder, jester, doomsdayninja, candy kappa, Donnie dberg, slythe, eiko, - thanks :D
Oldmanwinters-thanks! I had to try and replicate that epic pose at least once :)
Bauer536-thank you. Yeah, I'd love if the IDW turtles took on this look (Ross' look).
Roseangelo-the two toe mod is the thing that I wanted to do most. Thank you.
Raphfan-thanks. I felt the wraps needed more detail for my cause.
Donnie-wow, thanks man! I'm a huge Campbell fan too. If you haven’t already, check out my Campbell Leo custom.
Mousesi2k- thank you. I try to consistently improve on my painting ability. You know what they say...practice, practice, practice :)
Lordmylar06-thanks buddy :) yeah I put a lot of work into my stuff, but its sooooo worth it. I love the turtles!!!
Rx781a-that's a big compliment. Thanks :)
46p???????-I attempted to recreate the pose from TMNT #1. Thanks.
Ross Campbell-totally my pleasure man. But you already know I'm a HUGE fan of your stuff.
as always, i have more goodies on the back burnners. i'm looking forward to when i get some free time to get some work done on them :)

DAAAAAAAAAMN!!!!!!!! Quite a huge improvement from the original model. and way better than the original pictures of these figures (the one with the chains on mike's chucks). very impressive Playhouse. Oh and dude... that Leo face is wicked. And is it just me or does that Leo head remind me of the first live action Leonardo. Excellent job as always man. You are the best!

Wow dude. You did a fantastic job on these. The paint job brings these figures to life for sure. Thanks for sharing the photos.
Man, these look pretty great! Your paintwork is stellar as always -- but the toes do look a bit off, given that they're smoother where the bodies retain their slight scale texture. Same deal with the resculpted leg wraps: they look really great (maybe a touch "soggy," but that could be how they look in the reference art, too), but are definitely at odds with the less busy look of the wraps on the forearms and hands.
Even so, I continue to be impressed by your work, good sir. Keep it up! :)

What did you use to paint the eyes? They look amazing!
I like the Nick toys as is, just wish the eyes were colored. I'd love to attempt this myself, but it looks impossible with a brush!

thanks wes. yeah every custom is still a learning process for me. i noticed the slightly smoother texture too. i did try to textureize the epoxie but the method i esded didnt create enough of an impression. sometimes lightly pressing a paper towl will create a skin like texture. it didnt seem to take too well on this one. maybe i'll try vynal next time.
the wraps are based off of the art, but i actually really like how they look. i get what you're saying about the "soggy" look, but that's about right for some old, heavily re-used wraps that have been absorbing sweat and soil over several months or even years. with that kind of stuff, after a while the material starts to get brocken down and thined out look.

i used a paint brush and paint on the eyes. eyes are very tricky but get a little easier with practice.
I have to be honest I liked your other custom Leo head (v1) much better. You made noticeable strides in improving all other aspects of the figures though. Well done!
What are the odds that you are going to do a full set with v1 heads? I think the v1 was much closer to Ross' style of turtles.
As always Ross has my vote for best turtle art in some time...

I agree. That's why I stated in the beginning that these were a "simplified" version. It was a test to see how close the new toys are to Ross' style.
There's a 1% chance that I would ever make a complete set of the v1 Campbell customs. I only say 1# because one should never say never.
Thanks for the feedback :)
