Sorry if this has been done before, but I didn't find anything in the search.

Anyway, I was watching the first season recently and I noticed little things here and there that also happen in the comics, albeit in a different fashion. Things you might ordinarily not think about. Here's what I have so far...

-April's rescue in the sewers/ Turtles first fight with street thugs

-Baxter's demo of the Mousers.

-Splinter's fight at home with the Mousers.

-April's house falling under attack.

There's some more, but I can't seem to remember them off hand. I'll post them if I gain any recollection.

That's pretty cool. I never really notice that before.

-Krang is based on the Utroms from the TCRI building
-Shredder telling his origin and mission to the Turtles in "Enter the Shredder"
-The car chase in the third issue parallels the Turtle Van driving in a couple episodes

Bebop/Rocksteady's gang was very likely based on the Purple Dragons.

Krang's dimensional portal is likely the same as the transmat device the Utroms use.

I've actually thought for a while that the first season was a perfectly adequate and entertaining loose Saturday morning adaptation of the first few Mirage comics.

I wish they'd kept the same quality and gone on to do a second season equally loosely adapting the Triceraton/Fugitoid bit, maybe with some minimal appearance from Shredder and co., but alas, that isn't what we got.

Shredder's business dealings. In both the show and comic, Shredder's deal (before thr Turtles got in his face) was selling security systems to big-time companies... and then sending the Foot to rob the same company. It caught my attention the first time I read the comic, it took me right back to the first episode.

I also like how the 2K3 Splinter was a complete opposite of the Mirage one. In Mirage he raised and trained the turtles with the sole purpose of killing Shredder for revenge. In 2K3 he raised and taught them how to fight, but never told them Saki's past to prevent them from seeking him out for revenge.

Considering when the cartoon first came out in 1987, there were what...maybe 5 issues of Mirage that were actually out at the time, what did people expect?

In 1987 wasn't Mirage only up to issue 6? The middle of the Triceraton story?

But there was still a long time before the 5 episode premiere and when they finally started showing new episodes.

It was like... 5 ep premiere.... 6 months or so later, the 5 eps again.... then way later season 2 once a week every sunday and then later after that FINALLY season 3 as a weekly series.

That's exactly what Saki was doing before Raphael threw the challenge note at him. He selling security to some guy while secretly planning to send the Foot Ninja to rob it later. Then he got the challenge from the Turtles. And it all went to hell for him. We don't actually see him do it, but it's what he was planning to do (via thought bubble). The 80's show actually showed them doing it.

And I guess, the fact that Saki was (for the VERY short time we saw him) basically a businessman, the 2K3 series expanded alot more on that, making him kind of a Lex Luthor type, especially in season 3.

Huh? There's nothing that suggests he was secretly planning to rob them.

I'll re-read the comic, but I'm sure as he's selling the security to the guy he was planning to send his ninjas later to rob him.

Or he could be selling legitimate security. Honestly if he was robbing everyone he sold security too, they would one either think if was him or would figure he sold crappy security. Either way he couldn't do it again.

#12 hit shelves in September 87.

It's not some secret discovery... Wise was handed the comics and told to make something of them, with creative freedom.

Excellent point. Once the Turtles were on to him, he had to drop that operation completely -- which also makes me wonder about the secretary, as she was in on the scheme, as well. She was in a confab with the Foot Soldiers, right before April was kidnapped. What happened to her, anyway?

TMNT Adventures somewhat acknowledged this, with "Saki Inc." It's mostly noticable in issue 10, when the man who would become Scumbug used the door knocker, which had the logo or the text on it.

Wasn't the show originally supposed to follow the Mirage comics more (loose, but still).

Michaelangelo - Master of the Manrikigusari seems like a random thing to have in A Thing About Rats but it's clearly based on Mikey training with it in the flashback story in Vol.1 #9.

Similarly I always felt that Mike losing his temper while training and getting a lecture about patience and "keeping cool" was random given him being the "party dude" but it seems to be from Vol.1 #2 were the brothers talk of Raph being almost as bad as Raphael.

Perhaps a bit more debatable but I felt the rooftop Turtles vs Foot Soldiers is reminicent of the first issue turtles vs Foot battle and them searching through Shredder's skyscraper is a bit like them searching through the TCRI building in the fourth issue.

And yet people have suddenly noticed.

I've gotten that vibe, too.

The rooftop battle is definately one.
