After seeing the pizza thread, I thought of that because Splinter hated pizza and ate sushi instead. So, any sushi fans here? I can take it or leave it.

Love it. Depends where ya get it though. I guess I prefer California Roll, but I'm not too picky.

I've had it before. I think I might try it again sometime.

So weird.... Nowadays the whole sushi/chinese takeout/asian food in general is much more popular. It seems so outdated that the turtles wouldn't at least try it. Looking back it sounds silly that all they literally ate was pizza. Just one ep had them eat candy and one had them eat cookies.

"How can you eat raw fish? Blech!"
That's a big misconception. It's called sushi cause of the style, not because of the fish since not all sushi use raw fish as an ingredient and has sushi which can use cooked beef, cooked egg, or just veggies to name a few, for example. I know Donny said it a lot, but he's wrong.

That aside, I like it ok. It's good and lite for the most part and at least here it's way cheaper. lol Splinter not liking pizza is a but ironic since he was a rat and all, but his being old-school Japanese it's understandable why.

I love Sushi, but I'd be hesitant to try some store pre-made sushi. I had a bad experience with some take-away that I had left in the fridge a couple of hours :P

one of the local sushi restaurant got a mean Chicken Tempura.

I had eight pieces of California Roll sushi last time I went to a sit down restarant not too long ago, and given it is cooked, I enjoyed it! But like pizza, there are just so many varieties to choose from, so there's lots more to try. I'm not sure about the raw varieties, so if any sushi experts are here, please tell yourself if you prefer sushi raw or cooked, and why.

I love sushi, but I don't like sashimi. My favorite roll is eel & avacado.

I've tried it a couple of times. I'm just not really a fan of the seaweed.
Obviously would not be my first choice to eat, but I can see the appeal.

I used to think sushi was disgusting and would not try it. Though we have a new resturant in town and they had one called a bayou roll. Has shrimp and gator in it. It's damn good.

Tokyo Express has an all-you-can-eat sushi bar that you can add to your meal. Best place to go if you want sushi.

99.9% of things people eat every single day are more disgusting than sushi, and FAR worse for you. That includes frozen dinners, sugared cereal, chips, cookies, fast food, and soda. People gobble that stuff even though it's not "food" so much as it's "chemical garbage that vaguely resembles food, sort of." Sushi, in a worst case scenario, might give one a tummyache, or an allergic reaction in an extreme case. That other stuff gives you F'n cancer.

Besides that, sushi is less "gross" than it is sort of bland, for me it tastes like whatever it's seasoned with, other than that it's just fish and boiled rice, two things most people need more of in their diet anyway.

Sorry to be preachy, just some of the "sushi gross" stuff and the puking pic was overkill and a little juvenile. Unless you've tried it all and then decided it was gross, that would be OK and I respect your right to choose. Never trying something, or only one or two times, and then deciding based on that, well, I can't respect that opinion.

I, personally, will take sushi over Mickey D's ANY day of the week, my friend. :D

I eat sushi just about every week at a local sushi bar. One of my favorite foods.

There's a great place right around the corner from my job but they don't open until 4pm and I gotta be at work by then, I never get to go. :ohwell:

Always wanted it, but never got around to trying it. & this thread isn't TMNT related, c'mon now. Better placed in the general forums.

It was meant as a companion to the thread about pizza. Remember in "Turtle Tracks", where the Turtles make pizza with weird toppings, and when April doesn't want that, Splinter offers her sushi?

I love sushi quite a bit, especially any kind that has eel on it. I've been rewatching the old cartoon and was amused at how they drew the sushi on the show. It kind of looks like crackers stacked up with little toothpicks on top.

Yeah, when it's fresh it's amazing. There is this little Asian place next to me that has a buffet, and their sushi is always warm and gross. Eck.

Buffets are hit or miss, but there's this awesome China Star by where I live ($10 all you can eat!) and the sushi never disappoints. Not as good as a dedicated place but never bad and I've never gotten sick from it.

Oh yes, i think it's great. I was really hesitant about eating it and put it off for years. Then about 6 years ago I finally went to a sushi place with my roomate and it was glorious. Now I usually eat sushi about once a month.

If you are unsure if you like it, you should try it.

Don't buy sushi at your local supermarket. Well, at least not as your first experience. Some of it can be decent (like from whole foods), but definitely not great or going to give you a positive first impression

Go on yelp.com or a similar review site and find a well-reviewed sushi place near you. Then go and try it! unsure what to order or how to eat it? There are a lot of videos on youtube about this subject. Do a little research first!

Try Sushi! There is a reason why this ancient food has endured for so long and has become so popular outside of Japan

Fresh sushi, yes. The rice should not be bloated, the nori should not be too chewy and the filling should not look like it's seen better days.

Here in Australia you can buy half the sushi "log" at a time, it's a very popular food item that you can get almost anywhere.

I'd hate to sound like one of those television watchdogs, but there's one area where I think TMNT was a bad influence, and that was giving kids the idea that sushi was disgusting.

I didn't listen though. I tried it as a kid and have loved sushi ever since.

Anchovies don't get enough love either in my opinion, although they're packed with sodium.

Or they might be secret transmitters placed into the pizza by Shredder. :tlol:

Actually I thought the show did not depict sushi as disgusting, but as something teenagers (Turtle or otherwise) don't care to eat.

I've never tried sushi, so I can't give an opinion on it. I might try it one day just to see how it is.

As much as I like to eat Pizza. I cannot eat that everyday. I like sushi myself. It's all about finding a place that has the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Much easier to find when you live next to the coast.

*looks out the front door. Sees Ocean. Closes door*

But I have to say that Sashimi is pretty good too. Especially like seared ahi tuna. Give me a Sapporo beer, and I am set. :tcool:

I love sushi. I crave it if I go long enough without it (but maybe that's because I like salt and I use so much soya sauce!)

I especially love salmon, avocado, or California rolls. The raw fish part does't weird me out in the least.
