View Full Version : Will anyone be recording the show on videotape?

As I'm sure very few people still use VCRs these days, I am curious to know if anyone who may still happen to own one plan on making homemade VHS copies of the new series for their personal use. I'm only going to record the hour long premiere myself.
Betamax's the way to go. :twink:

Oh man, hell, I didn't think anyone even owned VHS players anymore. I think my wife has one at work to watch Disney movies, but I probably will never own one again. If I had one, though, no, I wouldn't record it. With replays on tv all the time, dvd's and Blu Ray's being released not long after a season, I don't see the point in recording it, really. Unless you're just old school and like to keep a part of the 'good old days' to counteract all the technology.

We're not in the 90's anymore, why would anyone still have a VHS?
why would anyone still have a VHS?
To make you ask questions.

Since my household has digital cable, VHS isn't compatible with my TV, and I still haven't figured out how to properly record using a DVD (though I'll admit I'm just a bit lazy about it and could use a new DVD player). And given that this is not even a classic series, I'd leave the VHS recording to shows that actually aired when VHS was still around. It's like asking if you're recording the lastest pop hits on cassette. It's funny though when I see people ask these questions about technologies well past their prime though since it shows that people still care about it.

Hey just because the format is virtually obsolete, that doesn't mean it no longer exists. Go to a Best Buy or an hhgregg sometime and check out how much the VCR/DVD combo sets go for.

No, it's what DVR's are for.
I plan on recording it to my laptop then throwing it on my external drive that is hooked up to my WDTV (a media box). It's 2012, why on earth would anyone want to record to VHS when there are better ways to record this?

Maybe cuz not everyone is so tech savvy that they know how to do what you just said? Or can even afford that kind of stuff?
That said though, I've got a VCR somewhere, but I'm not entirely sure it still works...really need to get one that does and see what lost treasures are on some of my old tapes that just say 'Cartoons'. Anyway, the room with the satellite where I live doesn't have a DVD player hooked up to it even, so I'll just DVR the show, and then watch-and-delete, and wait for an eventual DVD release.

Really, all shows are posted online by the day after they air, often in HD. Downloading a torrent would be essentially the same thing, though perhaps not legally the same. And I'm not endorsing illegal activity in my second darned post.
I still have a VCR at home. Got some old cartoons and soccer documentaries that haven't been released to DVD or can be found online. But I will certainly not use the VCR to record the new TMNT show, since it will end up online either way.
I think I might try recording them on water... or is that a strictly audio format? :ohwell:

Still got my old VCR/VHS Recorder hooked to the TV, because the only way to watch the german dub of the classic Doctor Who Series is to watch the old selfrecorded Tapes from the 90s ^^
I might also record a securitycopy of every episode on VHS if my harddrive recorder malfunctions (again) :)

There's still video tape players/recorders in my house. Still have a load of video tapes which have been lying around since the 80s and 90s lol Guess it's just for the nostalgia.

Some older items can stand the test of time or go up in value. Vinyl, cars, audio equipment, tools etc. vhs/vcrs are not in this category.

I am not going to be recording the show on VHS, but I do hope some one caps it and uploads it as a torrent, as its prolly the only way I will be able to see the show.
