View Full Version : Is it feasible to think Forever War could ever get made?

I was thinking... since IDW is starting to print out TPBs of the Archie TMNT Adventures, do you think it's possible that, providing they actually manage to release the entire run, they could finish up the series and give it closure by finally getting the Forever War made?
Ya, I mean, it sounds like a stretch, but just assuming that all the TPBs of TMNTA sell well enough and they finish the whole run of that comic... could they do it?
Well, that's Steve "Dean Clarrain" Murphy's story, and I'm not too familliar with whether or not he even cares to do it now. But, someone else would be able to give you a better forecast.

Murphy was really burned out on the Turtles. If he doesn't write it I'd rather not see it at all.

Assuming Murph and hopefully Chris Allan would still be interested it's not outside the realm of possibility. It was so close to becoming reality a few years ago for the 25th anniversary.
I hate to always draw similarities between TMNT and Transformers but IDW has a track record of sorts in that they recently brought back Simon Furman & Andrew Wildman for 20 issues to revive the Marvel Transformers series which IDW has been re-printing in Transformers Classics collections. I only wish the TMNT collections IDW puts out were as substantial as those Transformers books.

Pretty sure that's exactly the plan. Contingent on them getting that far into collecting the Archie material, I would imagine.

At the current pace, how long will it take the trades to reach #72?

A long time. A very long time.

Well, let's crunch the numbers...
72 issues of TMNT Adventures at 4 issues per volume = 18 volumes.
They look to be releasing one volume every other month, so 6 releases per year (if they keep up that schedule, but there's no telling for sure).
That means 3 years to get all 18 volumes out.
The releases started in August, 2012, so they'll be done in August, 2015 (naturally).
Of course, there's also all the specials and minis, too, but let's not worry about them.

Not to keep harping on it but the TF Classics were only up to 30-40ish issues out of 80 reprinted when the continuation series started, so they wouldn't necessarily wait to have it all re-printed in trades to start something like that if the opportunity presented itself.. 18 Trades if they stick to just the main Adventures story line and only 4 issues per book. If they keep them up putting out 3 or 4 a year. 4 & 1/2 or 5 years maybe?

Of course, there's also all the specials and minis, too, but let's not worry about them.
In a few cases they kinda have to. Like how TMNTA directly To Be Continued into the first Mutanimals mini, or how the first April mini-series directly To Be Continued into TMNTA #28 and that whole Chien Khan arc, or that big back-and-forth crossover later on between TMNTA and the regular Mutanimals series... not including these non-TMNTA issues would make for massive, non-reconcilable holes. Although I guess simultaneously collecting said mini-series separately from the TMNTA TPB program would help keep things rolling out faster.

DrSpengler: He remembers them (http://tmntentity.blogspot.com/2008/06/archie-comics.html) so you don't have to!

I think it can and will happen. If they can do it with Transformers, they can do it with TMNT and the Forever War. With Chris Allan and Steve Murphy on board at that. I'm patient enough for it... we've waited this long right?

Well, that's the thing, I don't think IDW's trade department really cares so much about story flow or continuity. They just release the catalog in issue # order, one volume at a time.
Their first release of the Marvel Comics Transformers issues shunted all the minis and specials to the last voluem, collecting the miscellania. That included important minis like The Headmasters (creating a big gap of storytelling in the earlier volume where it should have taken place, chronologically).
To be frank, IDW's trade department doesn't put any actual effort into the editing process to make the material more readable. They just divy the issues out in issue # order and call it a day. I'm almost completely sure that's how they're going to handle the TMNT Adventures material since they've already displayed a habit of doing things this way with their other reprints.

I was hoping the IDW Archie reprints would at least feature some revamped color, but it looks to me like they just scanned some old issues and reprinted them on clean paper. That old-style coloring in the first few Archie issues is certainly retro, but it was never really looked that good to begin with.

That's not true. Tomorrow we get the whole Dale 3 part thing, all in one.

That's what I was hoping too. It'd be neat to see the TMNTA books recolored with state of the art digital coloring, that'd definitely be a reason for me to buy them. Alternately if the books were bigger I'd buy them, but if it's literally just scanned reprints then it's difficult for me to justify buying the razor thin books they're putting out.
