View Full Version : Seems like Nick is canceling their other high profile shows, expecting TMNT to be big

Nick confirmed that both iCarly and Victorious, two popular tween shows, have been canceled. Spongebob has also been decling in ratings for the last few years, although its likely going to be kept for a little longer as well.
It seems like Nick has a lot riding on TMNT. You look at their new shows acquisitions for 2013+ and not a lot of their shows seem to have that much staying power besides the new tween shows they always develop.
I really expect them to give TMNT star treatment.

They're not cancelling shows because of TMNT, they're changing their whole make up and TMNT is part of that. They're going more action oriented.

Yeah, they're basically canceling everything ever so they can show TMNT reruns all day every day. Who wouldn't want that?
And of course they'll include the OT and NT, too!

I dunno, I just went on Google like CyberCubed said and found some sites that seem to claim otherwise. It does sound like the stars of those shows will continue to be involved with other Nickelodeon projects.

iCarly and Victorious are coming to an end because Nickelodeon has ordered 2 spin-off pilots from the creator, Dan Schneider. There's no way he could work on 4 shows at once. Anyway, they've both had good runs so it's not that big a surprise they're ending. 3 seasons (Victorious) is pretty standard for a live-action show and most Nickcoms don't last that long. iCarly (5 seasons?) was coming to a natural end anyway because the actors are too old for their roles and are moving on to college and/or new Nick shows.
And SpongeBob is definitely not cancelled. They have a new movie coming out in 2014 and the show will last at least as long as that.

Nick had a chain going.
All That: Amanda Bynes craziness led to...
The Amanda Show; Drake Bell & Josh Peck fighting over a big shrimp lead to...
Drake & Josh; Megan Parker having a website on an episode (Honor Council) led to...
ICarly
Miranda Cosgrove had a great 8 years on Nick as well as Jerry Trainor.

Yeah. All That was like the teen or tween SNL, and look where he is now! SNL!!!!:tcool: Well, it's cool he's doing what he loves, but so far, SNL hasn't been that funny lately unless one of the old cast members host the shows. Plus, their new characters stink. All they can do now is do political satires.

I'm Glad iCarly is going, that show was getting horrible. As for Victorious, i actually liked that show, and i'll be sad to see it go :tsad: and Spongebob? that show NEEDS to be cancelled, i HATE how spongebob is today, it's not even funny anymore, just stupid. Hopefully TMNT will become Nick's new Big Money maker and they will be able to get rid of spongebob!

Considering how long Nick kept Rugrats and Spongebob on the air because they were huge hits, if TMNT makes it big we could get a 10 year run of the series.
It might be the first turtle show to hit the 200 episode milestone, especially if they keep up the 26 episode seasons....we'd get there around Season 8 or 9.

Don't forget Next Mutation
all four Ninja Turtles movies
The Turtles ova
and the spin-off alien turtles...
Though I knew of iCarly ending, It is new to hear that Victorious is ending though, still seemed that show still had some life.
I picture Ninja Turtles will be apart of the USA Super Hero Time, with Power Rangers and if that Power Rider thing ever gets off the ground... with the Legend of Avatar (if they go beyond the Korra story being the Precure show, where everyone says it's part of the Super Hero time hour, but there is never any official word

I never got into iCarly or Victorious. I tried to watch them, and they just didn't appeal to me. But if they're doing spin-offs, that's cool. I don't think it's because of TMNT though. Most shows only go for so long before it's time to move on to something else.

This TMNT, like the OT is destined to aim at a family audience, as it still amazes me how entertaining the fourth wall jokes and pop culture references are from that series which is part of the reason why that show still holds up well today. My ideal series would have the fourth wall/pop culture with some OT shoutouts such as pizza from the original with the continuity of 4kids, with a mix of serious fighting and more comedic action. The critical point of this series will likely be the second season, since Season 1 would do well since it will bring back some casuals just to give it a chance. The number of episodes we'll get is strictly based on popularity along with support from Playmates and other licensed merchandise.
I never watched a single episode of iCarly since I couldn't relate to the characters since it started when I was in college. I gave Victorious a shot and I enjoyed it as it felt cool to watch, but as is typical with teen shows, can't last more than a few seasons unless if a new cast is replaced with almost always alienates the audience (Saved by the Bell, All That). TMNT can be different since they can age like the Simpsons, provided that it keeps its support.

It's not that they're girl shows, I watch shows with female leads all the time, it's that they're purposely aimed at middle school kids who have just started getting into relationships for the first time and are designed to teach kids morals.
Unless you watch with a younger sibling, I don't see what purpose an adult male would want to watch two 14-16 year old girls talk about girly stuff. It's creepy because I know some people are probably watching it because they find the girls, "hot."
All the tween shows Disney or Nick have ever made are the same.

Well, sure, judge every grown man who watches those kinds of shows. Personally I find those shows annoying (or at least the ones I've seen), but at least I'm aware that it's totally not my place to tell anyone what to watch.
And even if some pedophiles were watching (and I guess they are... Why wouldn't they?), at least no one's harmed that way. Better than them searching for real kiddie porn or raping some kid themselves :p
Think about it. Pedophiles can't help being who they are. I'm not saying they should be allowed to do whatever they want, but if they wanna stroke one out to a TV-show, I don't care.
After all, are child sex laws, child porn laws etc. there to protect the kids or create a witch hunt for pedophiles? Some pedophiles don't act on their needs. Maybe because they can find stimuli some other way.
Protecting the kids is a good thing. Hunting pedophiles that behave themselves is a bad thing.
I'm totally off-topic aren't i? Well, the topic was stupid to begin with, so whatever. Also, I read a debate article in a Swedish paper from a pedophile who won't break the law, and I found it so fascinating and I'm totally on the side of the good pedos out there! :D

I'm going to miss new Victorious (14 eps left) and iCarly (a few eps left) @least there's new episodes for Winx Club and of course coming soon...TMNT.
While on the whole live action targeted mainly towards females I like:
Lizzie McGuire
Hannah Montana
Wizards of Waverly Place
Sonny With a Chance
Victorious
iCarly
Good Luck Charlie
Pretty Little Liars
I never watched it because I find them hot, i'm just a Nick/Disney fan, I give every series a try so after watching a few episode I like them, so I keep watching them, I mostly watch Nick/DC/CN.
Back on topic, Nickelodeon and Disney Channel should air more series, almost everytime I check there showing the same stuff. I would like them to air like 15 different aprox. 22 minutes shows every day.

I am talking about icarly and Victorious, particularly the main female characters. I know now in real life those girls are over 18, but back when the shows first started they were all underage. There are adult sitcoms worth watching that have adult women in it.
Anyway, my whole point with this thread was Nick is ending several of their highest rated profile shows, and Spongebob is on the decline.
Other than Korra, TMNT is probably going to be the next big thing on their block. I think we're in the clear for a healthy run.

Another thing i've noticed that they barely show reruns of there newest shows (Korra, Winx Club Nick dub, Power Rangers, Anubis) so I hope that for TMNT after the a few episodes they put it on a Mon-Fri lineup even if it's the same episodes over again and again.

Of course it's a priority of Nick's, what part of Nick BOUGHT the entire IP for $60 million do some people (not referring to you, just in general), not understand?
People seem to act like Nick is just making a TMNT show, do these people continually forget Nick OWNS the ENTIRE TMNT IP 100% now? What the hell did they spend $100 million ($60 million, then another $40 million for production costs associated with the show and partnerships, etc) for?
I swear people have no clue how business works.

No, even a High School kid could know how basic business works. Nick didn't partner with Mirage to make a turtle show like Fred Wolf or 4kids did.
Nick bought the ENTIRE franchise for $60 million. That's why its going to be their main show for at least the next few years till they make back their investment and even turn a profit.
How much money do you think went into production for the first 26 episodes so far, as well as all the marketing and pay for the staff? Nick probably spent $100 million and they need to make it all back.

Yeah, probably. That seems likely. You know, from all the data you just wrote down, that seems like a likely outcome.
Of the nine animated shows they're producing right now, that have already premiered, only one have been on for ten or more seasons.
And before that? No shows had been on for ten or more seasons.
The small advantage they have - in a "Oh, I remember/recognize those characters" sorta way - will only help them out of the gate. If kids don't like the show or gradually tire of the show, no brand name could help the show.
What's with your 10 seasons-obsession anyway? :p
