Aw shoot, I clicked the spoiler tag on accident. ;~;
Quite a spoiler though (considering I've not checked out the preview, anyway). Maybe I should wait for #14 to check this out...

So I just read the preview. It was good. I like where they seem to be taking this. Though these Micros coming out before where they go is a little strange. I understand that they want to get them out but a little closer to where it goes story wise would be nice.

Did the Neutrinos always have pointy elf ears like Zelda characters?

Yes. You should know that.

Yes. You should know that.
I must have never noticed it.
So in Mirage Prof. Honeycutt was an alien but he looked human, because the entire Federation looked human. But in this series he appears to be of Neutrino origin with pointy elf ears.
Hm, so far no mention of the Federation at all, I wouldn't be surprised if IDW ignores them and instead has Krang wage war against the Triceratons instead.

Who even says that there will be Triceratons? I mean as far as we know right now he is just fighting against Neutrinos. There have been no indecation that the Triceratons exist in the IDWverse. Oddly enough though I'm okay with them not showing up at the moment. Though I would love to see Zog again in some fashion.

Not everything from ever version needs to show up. Right now it still feels like Fred Wolf is the primary influence with a tad bit of the others thrown in. The IDW crew is starting to make it feel like its own too though in some aspects. I'd really like to see that grow. I guess that is why I don't want the Triceratons in this issue. If they are going to include them do it some other way, not just there because that's how it was done before.

I'm not too stoked that Honeycutt is now a neutrino... But I can see how it makes sense since he was never explicitly a particular race other than "human-looking." I kind of figured he would just be human, but I guess that's the way it goes.

Bring ON the Fugitoid!
But I'll just tell ya'll right now that I'm gonna wait for TMNT #14 before I read it. I just hope I don't ruin the surprise for myself by seeing it on DrSpengler's TMNT Entity site.

That's debatable. I find every story the Triceratons have been in to be boring stories that drag on far too long.

The gladiator business in Vol. 1 was drawn out and boring? It was 1 issue, and the pacing was breakneck. And wow, "Return to New York" was boring?
The Vol. 2 stuff with them I'll grant you.

Vol. 2 along with the boatloads of attention they got in the 4kids series.
They've done about all you can do with Triceratons, I feel like their inclusion in this book wouldn't be anything but tedious. I've been wrong before though.

I actually felt the 4kids version improved upon the comic version of Turtles in space, and the Seadon 3 arc when they invade earth was one of my favorite arcs of the show.
Also they appeared in the Image series too and were handled well there.

So they are bringing in even more pieces from the old toon. In the first issues the turtles wore red bandanas and now we are talking about Neutrinos and the technodrome (and we saw a glimpse of human Bebop and Rocksteady already) .. I'm not sure I still like the direction this comics has taken.

Yes, yes, yes! Like I said in the other thread, that NEEDS to happen. It doesn't have to happen right away, but I hope we will eventually have the Turtles take a tour of their universe, and we'll get to see something like this go down.

Which isn't bad, just not what I was expecting when the title was announced. It would be interesting if Peter did read this issue and posted what he thought about it. If I remember correctly though he wasn't a big fan of Krang, or Fred Wolf in general.

Oh, wow, this is awesome. As I've referred to it before, the IDW series seems to be an Ultimate TMNT in a way, and I loooove how it's combining aspects and characters from the various different incarnations into one.
As for the Triceratons... I'll agree that they don't have to show up in this story, but I disagree with the people that say they shouldn't show up at all. I do still want them to eventually show up. They're friggen' awesome. And this is one of the things I love about the IDW series, is that it's combining so many things from TMNT that were never really together before. Though I do like the completely new stuff, too, don't get me wrong. But I do still want to see the Triceratons at some point down the road.

For some reason the concept of Prof. Honeycutt actually being a Neutrino amuses me more than it should. Now he's not just a random human in space anymore from a distant world that isn't Earth.
I never understood why so many sci-fi shows has humanoid aliens that look just like us from entirely different planets. I realize its for budget reasons, but in comics there's no reason to make them look so human if they're actually aliens.
So giving them pointy elf ears like Vulcan's or Zelda characters works for me. I guess Honeycutt being a Neutrino works.

He kinda has to embrace all the cartoon stuff in the comics now, the IDW series is full of them. It's either accept them now or drop the series, and I don't think he's anywhere close to giving up on the series.

I got the idea early on that Krang could be at war with General Blanque who is the dictator of the Nuetrinos.Seeing that Professor Honeycutt is a nuetrino it looks possible. As for the Triceratons they can appear as an enslaved race under Krang's thumb having their homeworld destroyed by Krang.Traximus as the rebel against Krang. And Zandramon the officer under Krang. Who knows how it will go,but it could go reminscient of my idea. I like how the Other Media elements are being woven together with the Mirage stuff. Its started off slow, but between this and Slash its as good a marriage as the first two movies were.

Very solid issue, I liked all the reveals and changes made to Fugitoid. Plus, the new design is pretty awesome.
My only quibbles are that the issue skimmed over a few important details that threw me off for a second. Such as, when Honeycutt transferred himself into SAL, I thought he was only remotely controlling it like in the beginning of the issue. I realized the next page or two after that he had permanently trapped himself in the robot when Granitor recognized him as Honeycutt. By the way, how did he know that was Honeycutt, and not just his robot?

General Blanque knew because he was monitered Honeycutt so I wouls assume Krang had been monitoring him considering he was already reluctantly working with him.
Also, thanks,Paul and welcome aboard! Its hard to remember details after months passed in a random issue after reading so many others.

By General Blanque, do you mean Granitor? Blanque hasn't been introduced in this series. Also, Honeycutt transferred himself into the SAL robot in the Neutrino resistance, so we can assume they were safe from Krang's surveillance there. If they did have a spy/surveillance hidden somewhere in the resistance, that's something I didn't see when I read it, but maybe I missed it...?

I was giving the comapision to what came before to speculate.Blanque knew right away that Honeyvutt wasnow in his robot servant's shell. I just thought Krang might know by watching Honeycutt's every move like Blanque did in another version(s).I have not read the issue yet.

The whole issue was just awesome, but the stuff they're setting up is epic. I can't wait to see where this goes. I thought Chet might become the Fugitoid once he started playing a more significant role and at the time I was hoping to be wrong, Chet gave off that dirty hippy vibe and it seemed wrong but Chet actually being the Fugitoid in disguise works out well. It's something I can picture mirage Fugitoid doing that.

surprisingly, this issue featured ONE panel of the Turtles... yet it was an amazing issue. all the twists! didn't one of the dromers suspect "Chet is Honeycutt"? my hat's off to you, sir! excellent speculation. despite the lack of turtles... this issue was great. gives him more reason to hate Krang rather than just "he's evil". we finally get some idea of what sparked the Neutrino-Krang war too. i'd put this issue up there right next to splinter's.

Loved this issue, I am so glad I didn't wait till issue 14 came out to read it. Well paced, well told, the art was beautiful. Just a solid enjoyable book.
The only issue I had and it was small was when Granitor said that Honeycutt is the robot, it just struck me as out of the blue that he would know. Then of course I realized the entire building is on fire, and it would make sense for Granitor to assume that Honeycutt was in the robot and the whole issue made itself disappear.
Really enjoyed the reaction from the New Yorkers to a robot and five guys made of stone appearing out of nowhere. It actually kind of sets my mind a bit at ease as to how people have been reacting to the Turtles in the IDW-verse. We live in a world now where reality and fiction are just a thin line from each other (Thanks internet!) so of course people would come up with a reasonable explanation within the confines of what they know to be possible before jumping to the frightening conclusion that they are mutants or aliens. That scene demonstrated this new world rationalizing extremely well.
I can not wait to see where this goes. Honeycutt is now deeply tied into the origin of the Turtles and I will love it when the truth comes out and everybody has to deal with it. Hoping for a great reaction from April, considering Chet has become semi-villified in her eyes. Also want some tie into to when they ran into him in issue 9. This opens up so much possibilities and I am excited to see them happen.
Finally I am just happy that Honeycutt turned out to be Chet and not Woody. As soon as I saw that blond hair and he started going on about how he was hiding himself I was nervous that that was the reason we had that scene go down in issue 7. Very glad it turned out to Chet instead.

i like that you brought this up and i wholeheartedly agree. this book shows just how we would react to a robot and stone warriors. and i can definitely see real people thinking a movie was filming first and an actual runaway robot second. Now that the term Nerd is no longer a person to shun... and comic conventions are growing more popular than they were years ago... it's easy to assume that people can dress up in costumes and run around new york without people freaking out. i'd say they would enjoy it as it amuses people. great point FoxZerro.

On the brief note about 'How did Granitor know Fugitoid was Honeycutt?" question. If you look carefully you can see Honeycutt's smoldering old body in the background of the next panel. We wanted to be a bit more implicit there, but it was deemed a touch too gruesome, so it was made pretty hard to see. But presumably, Granitor saw that and put things together.

Any chance of that more implicit art seeing the light of day in some form? That just sounds awesome and would have made that scene that much cooler, plus it would have added that little bit extra to Granitor's character.

Here's my review of TMNT Microseries #8: Fugitoid at TMNT Entity. (http://tmntentity.blogspot.com/2012/09/tmnt-microseries-8-fugitoid.html)
Loved it. Absolutely freakin' loved it.
I've always been intrigued by the universe of the Fred Wolf/Archie TMNT series, partly because it was so interesting but never fleshed out to its fullest potential. So it really is thrilling to see those ideas cultivated for a modern audience.
Allor did a fantastic job of updating the Fugitoid's origin; keeping it respectful to the source while adapting it for the new universe. It felt like a very natural evolution and in some ways I actually prefer this take to the original.
So much good stuff.
(as for the Turtle Tips section, I placed this one after #16 just because Curnow said it set up stuff for #17, I can't see the future so I dunno if that's 100% right or not)

Bringing so much of the elements that were so great from the '87 cartoon and Archie series to IDW's TMNT is something I owe you. Ignoring that was why the Mirage/Image stuff never appealed to me. This is quickly surpassing the first two movies at nicely blending them and te black and white comics.
How much of this was your own contribution and how much was from Kevin and Tom's notes?
Either way I liked the character piece. At times its hard to find great character pieces in the TMNT multiverse.
I think the issue can be summed up in one word:

Thanks, man. I really appreciate this. But yeah, as much as I wish I could take credit for it, a lot of the blending of different elements was already in place from IDW. They told me upfront that Honeycutt would be a Neutrino, that he'd be working for Krang on the Technodrome, and that in this issue we'd reveal that the Fugitoid is Chet.
The stuff I brought to the table was how to fashion those plot elements into a story, and a lot of the new characterizations and elements (Honeycutt's family, the conversion to Fugitoid being a sacrifice rather than an accident, his gradual transformation from scientist to resistance fighter, et cetera).

No,thank you. I love characterization, I love the blended nature, I love original takes on my favorite franchise. Giving Fugi/Chet a family is an interesting twist. Something I would not have thought of. He was only "dear me, how do I keep the teleportal information from the villain" and that was it. Adding to the character was neccessary and you did wonders! Sometimes it is unneccessary like giving Doc Ock a wife in Spider-Man 2 and times like this well it surprsingly works well. This case it works and adds to the family theme and he can relate to the TMNT themselves that way. Hope to see your up for something else in the near future. Considering the response I think it will happen soon.

Aside from repeating the well-deserved praises, I have to mention another element that I loved about this issue: the atmosphere/mood, the artwork and the coloring.
Those 3 elements combined to give this book a very classic feel.
Great job to Paul and everyone for crafting a wonderful tale!

Thanks for the tip! I reread it, and I can see his obscured burnt corpse in the background, and it makes a little more sense. It's pretty subtle, but at least the reasoning is there! I also think it makes sense that Fugitoid would have shape-shifting (aka camouflage) abilities, but I hope this doesn't mean we won't be seeing Fugitoid in his robot form as much, because that design is so cool!
Also, one of the main premises and main obstacles, at least initially, for Fugitoid was that "robots don't have rights," so the villains can do whatever they want to Honeycutt! I wonder if this will be touched on at all in the IDW book?

Well the robot form is still needed to charge the batteries, according to the good doctor in the beginning of the book. I am curious how that will play into the whole Chet is Fugi saga now that we know the truth

This was an amazing issue! I love how all the Turtle Universes are being brought together in a way that does not seem forced. The IDW Turtles just surpassed the Mirage Turtles as my favorite version!
And my review of the issue is up on my blog also for those of you who care.
We get it, you have a site :trolleye:
Sorry Hob, you left it wide open for me :twink: Seriously, I was not aware and you have a new subscriber :tsmile:

That's definitely a gaffe that could have been saved even at the coloring level, but I wouldn't cost the otherwise awesome issue any points over it.

Coming in late (my copy only arrived Wednesday), as soon as I saw the panel where Honeycutt mentioned the damaged voice box, I was like "oooooh... don't tell me that he is really..." and yeah. At that moment it twigged.
(and now, I can read back through the rest of this thread)
So I presume Honeycutt/Chet is the reason that the Foot were able to get in and out of Stockgen without much issue?
Obviously I have to give props to the guy for his assumed surname being the same as mine :P

So I liked this one. I really did, but this series maybe turning to Fred Wolf.

I disagree. You are simply seeing more Fred Wolf elements at work, but they were always there. The Mirage and 2003 cartoon influences haven't weakened either.

Really great issue.
It was great seeing the Technodrome and I can't wait to see where that plot thread goes.
Loved the revised origin for Fugitoid. It had just enough of the classic origin but so much more emotional weight (and the twist was fantastic too, congrats to anyone who actually managed to guess that!)
I love these micros, they're just adding so many great plot elements and characters to the universe. It really does feel like "Ultimate" TMNT.
Oh, and the kid in me loved seeing gold Fugitoid! Brought back memories of the original figure :tgrin:

The first page REALLY made me remember the good old Tales of TMNT days.
and sigh a bit... ( for a moment i was going to put aside the comic and go to the other room to open my boxes for reading some Tales of TMNT )
But it was a nice issue.
I do not know if i am happy with "that much" old toon elements are going into the comic but i guess it was inevitable.
Still waiting for the almighty Triceratons.
My fave Micro issue following Leo's...

Just read this issue and what a great one it is, leading up to the cliffhanger at the end. We have Neutrinos that are basically distinguishable by their "cat-ears". The mention about war, terrorism, and genocide sums up the modern day Earth's problems and present a threat when the Technodrome is mentioned. Too bad Granitor is only a Seargeant in this version instead of a Lieutenant, though it's great to see his first appearance since the Arcade Game.
IDW Fugitoid reeks C-3PO more than any other, from the gold-covered body to having a more theoretical mind to of course his body being torn apart and re-assembled.
I agree with Casey's comment about how fighting evil is never easy, since you must have great courage and sacrifice to conquer it.

it was a coloring gaffe. if you look close, shredders mask and the cloth face covers of the foot are drawn identical. if it was colored the same as the cloth it would then appear to be cloth.

Ha, I'm still waiting to read this one. I am disappointed I couldn't land a David Peterson cover, but I guess I'll settle for the Paul McCaffrey variant. Peterson did post some of his work progress on his blog:
