View Full Version : Idea of IDW The Mighty Mutanimals

**Please only read this if you are up-to-date with the TMNT comics as of Issue 13**

Hey everyone, Ive been thinking over an idea in my head about an IDW version of the mutanimals and I have finally had the guts to ask you guys/gals about it.

I personally love the characters of the Mutanimals, from Man-Ray to Wingnut and think that an IDW incarnation would be a fantastic addition to the TMNT IDW mythos. With IDW being open to incorporating “mutant” characters across the many incarnations of TMNT (So far we have had hints of Bebop and Rocksteady, Slash and a few original mutant characters such as Old Hob and Alopex) I think eventually there will be a big enough roster of characters to actually form a team of Mutanimals.

Imagine the possibilities, a on-going roster of mutanimals could open up so many stories and character development opportunities, and we get to see more of these characters outside of the TMNT “screentime”

These are some of the stories I think could be very interesting
The formation of the team and them trying to find a place in this world (Ie Kind of like the TMNT without the Guidance of Splinter or a Code of Honor/Purpose)

Old Hob could redeeming himself or becoming less of a whipping boy and more independent badass mutant

Bebop could split from Rocksteady for a stint with the team, or vice versa. (I would be interested to see more character development time given to these characters, instead of being the mindless henchmen cartoon henchmen we know them as)

Man-Ray Vs Leatherhead, Protector of Nature Vs Creature of Science (I am assuming that Leatherhead is still sciencey in IDW version)

Mutanimals going up against other teams such as the Punk Frogs or the Justice Society

The ability to introduce characters such as Mondo Gecko, Rat King, Nobody or even Zog

Let me know of any stories you can think of, I’m interested to see what characters loyal fans would like to see together for the first time.

I understand that if this WAS going to happen, it will be years away however I’m just interested in what you guys think about these characters or if I’m forever alone in my idea

This is my dream roster (With the IDW spin on them):
Man-Ray (Leader)
Old Hob (Out for redemption)
Leatherhead (Brains + Brawn)
Zog ( The Lost Tough guy)
Wingnut and Screwloose (Comedy Duo)
Ninjara (No-nonsense Assassin)
Nobody (Wise-battleharded guy who relates because he is just as lost as these guys)

I wouldn't mind seeing a new Mutanimals, but I never really "got" what they were about. In Archie it seemed like there whole motive was to save the enviornment or something.

The only character I can see being all nature would be Man-Ray

I think Napoleon Bonafrog should join them this time, it always bugged me they left him out in Archie. Also Merdude seemed like he was becoming a member towards the end of it.

For some reason, I've always liked the Punk Frogs and wanted to see more of them.

It opens so many doors for a lot of characters to have more of an edge to them that haven't been expored in the past.

Personally, I really hope they do something special with Rocksteady and Bebop if/when they do bring them in. Damn, so many character combinations

I love the Archie material and have a soft spot in my heart for the Mutanimals but I don't believe they have any place anywhere else.

Especially not with that name, or that mission statement. There are ways to unite a band of mutants under a unifying banner -- whether friend or foe -- but I'd just as soon it not be as some kind of planeteers.

Sometime in a long-running TMNT I'd sort of like to see the turtles just meeting/defeating new people and just end up taking them on as students. Imagine Splinter's clan actually growing from him and his sons into a somewhat large force over time. Pretty much anyone effected by the mutations joining up in the fight against the people behind it, I suppose.

Maybe I just want to see Leatherhead and the Fugitoid training with the rest of the "purple division".

I wouldn't be opposed to another ongoing title, or at least periodical mini series. It could be fun to see some other mutants. Maybe make it where they have to keep moving so they don't get captured, sort of like an A Team kind of thing.

Too soon to say if they'd fit in or not. I like the idea of old hob being out for redemption. Imagine a retcon where leatherhead or someone saves him, gives him cybernetic implants and he eventually takes on the codename verminator x.

The punk frogs...ugh..I hate them. unless they are totally revamped and made into genuine punk rock frogs(leather and mohawks included) then I don't want to see them.

I honestly hate the idea of the Mutanimals as a, "team," but I like them as individual characters, if that makes any sense.

The idea of them forming a superhero team to clean up the enviornment was always lame even back in the 90's. Its why their series got killed off so fast after only 9 issues...there really isn't much to do with them.

I would like to see Mondo Gecko and Ray Fillet show up though, maybe more experiments of Krang or Shredder's.

Noah13
09-05-2012, 11:28 PM
I don't think they need to be a superhero team or be like the archie series. I just would like some way to see more of the characters outside the main TMNT storyline.

Some way of shoving more "meat" on to their characters other than what you in the in on-going and micro...its a tricky one

I'd rather this series not over do the mutants like Archie and Fred Wolf did. I mean if mutants were that common they wouldn't be hiding in the sewers. Bebop, Rocksteady, Hob, Alopex, Slash and eventually leatherhead is enough and they shouldn't even appear to prominently. Too many mutants takes away from the turtles uniqueness. It's this reason I'm praying Stockman becomes a cyborg and not a fly and that they kill off Alopex, I mean does anyone actually like her as a character?

Actually, Brian Lynch created Alopex. Eastman just designed him, so I guess you could say he co-created him.

I loved the Mutanimals, but I'm not sure how well it would work at the moment. If any of the old ones ever appeared, I wouldn't mind. I always loved Jagwar, Mondo, and Dredmon, but I imagine Mondo would be the only one that would be likely to appear.

CyberCubed
09-06-2012, 12:28 AM
Ray Fillet, Mondo, and Merdude were really the only popular ones outside of Leatherhead.

Wingnut/Screwloose are aliens from Dimension X so I don't really count them. Jaguar and Dreadmon were characters Murphy came up with and weren't part of the old toyline.

I think Wingnut/Screwloose would be easy to work into a Dimension X story.

Cowabunga Carl

I'd love to see the Punk Frogs. They were always some of my favorite episodes of the original cartoon. Loved the toys too. I even had my parents get me more then one of each so I could have four frogs even though Napoleon didn't look like his cartoon version.

I could see Man Ray, Mondo Gecko, and Wingnut & Screwloose working. And Wingnut & Screwloose, pretty much with their same exact origin intact 100%... their world, just another world ravaged by General Krang, same as the Archies.

Merdude can work easily if the Lost city of Atlantis is in the IDW universe.

Merdude is basically the TMNT version of Aquaman.

Wasn't he part of Atlantis in Archie too? I don't remember.

And it seemed like Merdude was become a member towards the end, had the Mutanimals comic continued he would have likely joined them after he helped Ray Fillet defeat Armaggon.

To parrot myself:

If IDW has a version of the Mutanimals, I would hope they were a ragtag team of mutant and alien misfits across the ethical spectrum who came together basically because no one else wanted them or they had no other place to go (perhaps have a fugitive, rogue soldier, thief, cop, naive bystander (think Sara in Vol. 3, etc.) and would be a companion mini or so focusing on how these individuals learn to trust one another and work as a team in the face of adversity.

Alopex could become a member, and probably would.

The world is many shades of grey; they don't have to be either. They may have to steal something to survive, take the odd job as mercs, and yeah probably help a poor soul in need.

The Mutanimals main goal would be survival at all costs, which would inevitably put them in grey areas and have the effect of luring in more dangers.

Heck...maybe the Mutanimals could be a force of more or less aliens who team up as a force to stop Krang. Take the Wingnut and Screwloose Archie origin and add other "freedom fighters" who are also the last of their respective races whose planets were also destroyed by Krang coming together to fight him. Their ethics could even be a bit murky bringing them into conflict with the Turtles.

So aliens and not mutants. The Alienimals?

What about if Krang mutates animals on the planets he destroys and uses them to help in the obliteration of the planet's populace. Then he destroys the mutants. I mean we know that he provided Stockman with the basic components for the mutagen in IDW, whose to say he hasn't been mutating things all along. Then if some of these mutants were to survive and try to fight again Krang that could work as a modernization of the characters. Plus while they would still be aliens they would be mutants as well... There everyone should be happy now!

CyberCubed
09-06-2012, 02:10 PM
Yeah they could be part of Krang's army and eventually try to betray him.

Did you guys remember those pin-up pages of the Mutanimals in the old comics that drew them in Mirage style looking really vicious or realistic? There was one of Dreadmon that looked killer.

Krang can't make mutants, It's why he hired Baxter and Baxter can't even successfully make mutants anymore since the Foot stole all their stuff. It's why they only have failed experiments like Slash, though we've yet to find out whats wrong with him. Only Alopex was made successfully and on purpose BY THE FOOT.

Still not sure if I like the idea of Mutanimals in IDW, but I like what some people are saying here, forming as a sort of mutant-support group, Krang and/or Shredder's genetic experiments that go rogue, realizing they're just tools in a war that they have no stake in.

They could make a nice foil to the TMNT, the tight-knit group of turtles with guidance from Splinter, who fight a righteous cause. It could play out as a kind of X-Men/Morlocks dichotomy. The Mutanimals, with backgrounds in war and genetic labratories, would clearly have more baggage to sort out than the family-centered TMNT. Their morals and motives would be more questionable, and without clear guidance from a Splinterlike figure, there would be more dissension amongst them. The balance and order of the green machine would be nicely juxtaposed to the chaos and ferocity of a second group of rogue misfit mutants.

Do a round of MicroSeries based on the four Mutanimals who received action figures:

Leatherhead: An alligator cloned by Utroms (or some form of aliens if there aren't Utroms in IDW) who opposed Krang. His alien "parents" were killed by Krang's stone warriors.

Wingnut and Screwloose: Keep the Archie origin- refugees from a planet destroyed by Krang.

Mondo Gecko, Ray Fillet: Humans mutated either accidentally or as part of an experiment y Krang/Stockgen

add in Fugitoid, and Old Hob, who puts his grudge against Splinter and the TMNT on hold since his betrayal by Krang and Stockman runs deeper and more personal. Never use the name "Mutanimals," or the environmentalism mission. Instead, they are Honeycutt's task force to stop Krang.

Where was it implicitely stated that Krang can't create mutants. He supplied the original materials to Baxter to create the Ooze, whose to say Baxter isn't the only on world scientist he's hired in his mad attempts at World destruction and domination.

It is true that Baxter has lost the ability now that the data and materials were stolen by the Foot. The Foot however seem to have the ability and now that we know that Chet/Honeycutt is working for the Foot he could very well be the reason why they have a successful mutant in Alopex. It also appears as if he was preparing Splinter for the process as well. Whose to say that he didn't have prior experience with such experimentation while he was "conscripted" by Krang. This could also explain why Slash was a failed experiment it could have been tampering on the part of Chetoid in order to further weaken Krang.

If it has been said that Krang can't create mutants, then please show me where, but until that time I can still believe that perhaps such tactics are part of his battle strategy

Yeah, Chet probably had something to do with the foot break in and why the foot makes mutants. Krang could never make mutants. Stockman could but can't anymore. If he had other scientists then why would he be so pissed and make Stockman retrieve the formula from splinter?

And the Mutanimals... I wouldn't mind seeing some of them later on as long as they're just revamped versions. Kind of like if you were to say Alopex is a rebooted Ninjara. Krang should also have little to nothing to do with their origin. 1) theres no evidence that Krang can make mutants and he probably can't and 2) Remember that big room with all the animals in it when Alopex was explaining her origin? The foot should be responsible for their creation, it'd make more sense.

Man, I would KILL for a Mutanimals spin-off. I think several folks here have made some excellent suggestions, but at the same time I think some of us are not able to see the forest for the trees. Remember, because the original Mutanimals book was handicapped by the heavy-handed environmental stuff, the characters and concepts themselves aren't necessarily bound to that idea, no more than the Turtles are BOUND to goofy hijinks and pie fights. Remember that a reimagining can do literally anything with these characters. Obviously, there are cores to who and what these guys are, but there is lots of room for neat interpretations, and I don't see any reason why most of the Mutanimal characters couldn't show up eventually in this world, and perhaps join forces in their own title one day.

I really like the idea of playing up Kran's interstellar war to bring in a lot of those characters, like Wingnut and Screwloose being aliens from devestated worlds. N-Zero's ideas are a good example of how these characters could fit into the IDW setting without too much trouble.

I definitely want to see a deep, complex, and vibrant world created in IDW, and they are heading that way. We don't have to see Krang and Shredder creating tons of mutants right this second, we don't even have to have them responsible at all, but in the end I hope we'll be seeing more interesting old characters revived and revitalized over the course of the series.

I especially hoe we'll see Wingnut, Screwloose, Mondo Gecko, and Ray Fillet eventually.:tgrin:

I think we gotta start looking at the IDW continuity. Having a team of mutants with stupid names won't work. I'm trying to figure out how Bebop and Rocksteady are gonna get their names without sounding silly, I don't think it's possible to have Merdude, Screwloose, ray filet or Mondo gecko without it sounding just plain stupid. Then there's all the issues with having a million mutants, It'd take away from the tmnt being something totally random. This isn't a reboot of the Archie series and something that worked there won't work here and Mutanimals didn't even work there! In the original tmnt there was only two mutants, outside of the main characters, I can think of that had more then one appearance are bloodsucker and leatherhead and while leatherhead has a kind of silly name there's a good reason for it.

Haha, it seems to me perhaps you are blinded as well, but by hate rather than adoration. I don't think Ray Fillet's design was that bad, but who says that a reimagining would have to use the same look? Splinter doesn't look exactly the same, neither does Shredder. Heaven knows Krang's been improved. Where exactly do you see evidence that the good folks at IDW have any desire to reproduce existing material note for note, regardless of quality?

Relax Corvus, yes, a Mutanimals book or even appearances by Mutanimals characters could be many things, some of them less than stellar, but there is no reason they must be such.

Hey CC, yeah, I'd definitely like to see Wyrm show up eventually, and if they blend him with his counterpart, I'm fine with that. He was just SOOOO creepy...he'd make for an interesting inhabitant of this world.

1.) Ray Fillet- Mutated Manta with an enviromental bent.
2.) Alopex- Ninjara's replacement, Foot Ninja turned good.
3.) Wingnut- Mutated Bat, Srewloose is his little mutant pet.
4.) Modo Gecko- Mutant thief, who is pals with michelangelo.
5.) Jagwar- Aztec themed mutant (like the original playmates sketch) complete with jade-toothed sword.

And we may be seeing more mutants- remember those animals in cages in the Raph micro?

Ahh well, I think there is plenty of room in this new universe for fans of all of the different interpretations. Well, if the concept of the Mutanimals as freedom-fighters were to be used, then they'd have to be at least somewhat hard edged, right? I mean, I'm really seeing something like the classic Guardians of the Galaxy, the last survivors from several races banded together, the last hope of those remaining...it has tons of potential, and it also demonstrates the flexibility of the Turtles' universe. You could tell that story in one corner, and at the same time, you could have the Turtles fighting Foot ninjas in New York. I'd buy both books.:tsmile:

Well, if the concept of the Mutanimals as freedom-fighters were to be used, then they'd have to be at least somewhat hard edged, right? I mean, I'm really seeing something like the classic Guardians of the Galaxy, the last survivors from several races banded together, the last hope of those remaining...it has tons of potential, and it also demonstrates the flexibility of the Turtles' universe. You could tell that story in one corner, and at the same time, you could have the Turtles fighting Foot ninjas in New York. I'd buy both books.:tsmile:

:EDIT: Or perhaps you mean this one:

It is more ferocious, right?

To quote the venerable DrSpengler on Stephen Bissette's renditions of the Mutanimals:
And they have you thinking Jagwar and Dreadmon are all cute and cuddly until BAM! The last couple pages reveal that what they really want is to eat your brains.

Anyone else thinking a "Sgt Fury and the Howling Commandos" -esqe type of story called "Fugitoid and the Mighty Mutanimals" who band together to fight against the Evil Kraang in this war they keep going on about.

Now that I like, even the title sounds good. Plus it would make sense if Honeycutt had a hand in creating all of the mutants who are now his allies because it seems like he has experience with the process.

I think its just because most of us have the Archie version stuck in our heads as they are really the only interpretation of the characters together and of the "team", we can call them that.

IDW has proven that they are capable of putting a fresh spin on characters that we have known (Fugitoid is so far the best example, in my opinion) and I think they are worth a new fresh interpretation, more Grittier less Preachy.

Though, I do agree that there are some characters that might be too much of a stretch, but hey, thats why writers get paid the big bucks...well bigger than most people

Ha, this kind of thing makes me laugh. How is a mutant manta ray any more or less ridiculous than a mutant turtle? We're well past that threshold. We're in a world where fantastic things can happen, and that's the reason I love the Turtles as a concept. My friends, we're are all fans of the fantastic, and as long as the story is well told, I'm sure the Mutanimals could make for great additions to the setting. Of course, the story being well told precludes the silly and discordant elements of the Archie interpretation, and perhaps even dictates some pretty major character rennovations. I'm pretty okay with that.:tsmile:

Why do you keep saying that? Nick owns the TMNT franchise, of course they're not going to end their own show in 1 season.

That's like expecting Disney to end Mickey Mouse or DC to stop major Batman shows. What part of Nick owning Turtles is hard to comprehend?

It is one of the realities of TV ratings that if a show flops badly, that they will cancel regardless on quaility (Fox Vs Firefly is a painful reminder of this) so I don't believe hes being negative just realistic.

Saying that tho, considering all the money they have plugged into that incarnation its hard to see it not having a second season despite lack-luster ratings....however you may never know; R.I.P Firefly

Fox would cancel the Simpsons if nobody watched it. I'm actually worried about the show and the movie. I don't think either look that great and if they flop Nick may say to hell with the franchise, sell the rights to it and as a result the IDW series will be canceled. I doubt it'll happen but still.

Also the Mutanimals could would probably work when the Nick universe runs of ideas and have their own unsuccessful spin-off all over again.

Hah, you're just full of sunshine and hope aren't you, Corvus? :twink:

Well, let's all hope that these things don't come to pass. Companies don't usually let rights to lucrative franchises go, even after a failed attempt to exploit them. The Turtles are a very recognizable brand, so it isn't too likely that they would pass them off again too soon. If nothing else, they'd sit on it so that no-one else could make money on it. The comics series should be safe for a good while, in that case.

Oh I really hope so and that's probably gonna be the case, unless they just decide that it doesn't work with the new generation and cancel it...but chances are it'll be successful. My roommates younger siblings love them, they're the only children I know so I'll assume they're not wierdos(like us) and there's plenty of kids that like tmnt. Anyways I'm surprised nobody besides me has said anything about the mutanimals being in the Nick cartoon. Considering they've already revealed several mutant villains and will likely be full of them. I'm assuming Hobs not in it...since he's named after Satan and all.

The Mighty Mutanimals were my favorite secondary characters. Granted they weren't as big as the Ninja Turtles, but they were still cool! It always bugged me how they died, and I've always held onto the hope that they would somehow be resurrected. I always felt the Turnstone would be a cool way to bring them back to life. Originally I figured time travel was the answer, but that's too easy. Anyone else have an idea? Just to be clear, this isn't about revamping them for either of the new iterations. I'm talking about the original Archie comics incarnation.

Frankly? I think if they were brought back, then their deaths would lose their meaning. Admittedly, me and my sister came up with like, a thousand ways to bring Slash back to life because that dude was straight ballin, but otherwise they need to stay dead.

Now, a story where the turtles go back in time to slightly before their deaths, bring them into the future and goes on an adventure with them might be interesting. Especially if afterwards, they warn them of their impending doom, but also that it leads to Maligna being killed, and they all choose to go to their deaths anyway, would be pretty sweet.

For real?! That's awesome.

In regards to the question, I think I would've done something unexpected. For whatever reason, Future Donatello didn't see fit to time travel those guys back to life(it made sense to me to do it that way). But since I've accepted that Future Don wouldn't do it, I imagined Cudley the Cowlick would have been their salvation. The turnstone idea is cool though, except then you have to write Sarnath back into the equation and why he'd have any connection to the Mutanimals.

With the Mighty Mutanimals, I'll say here what I've said before- this is how Id' revamp tham for IDW;

Ray Fillet- marine bioligist mutated into a humanoid stingray, does the team's underwater work, and has a form of light hydrokenisis

Alopex- Arctic fox mutant who eventually betrays the foot, has anger issues and hates people who 'talk instead of fight'. The team's ninja, she has claws that can cut through steel.

Jaguwar- Reicarnated Aztec warrior reborn as a big cat, with a strong honor code. Is as deadly with his maquitil (Jade-toothed sword) as Leo is with his Katanas. Shares a rivialry with Leonardo over thier swordsmanship skills. (Similar to 4kids Leo and Usagi Yojimbo)

Dreadmon- A Brazilian practictioner of the martial art of Caoperia, he is the spiritual memember of the group, and acts as the team's moral compass. This mutant Jackal shares a kinship with splinter.

Wingnut- The team's crazy nutcase flyer, he was a normal bat who was mutated by Stockgen's mutagen experiments, and blames krang for the loss of his family in those experiments. Has a small mutated pet mosquito named screwloose.

Mondo Gecko- a mutated Sk8ter boy with no sense of responsibilty, only wants to have fun. Has a kindred soul in Michelangelo, and is the 'kid of the group.

I agree, I think that they should avoid overdoing the whole mutation thing. The TMNT are about to go to dimension X for at least 4 issues so it wouldn't hurt for some more alien creatures to be introduced.

Krang could have invaded Wingnut and Screwloose's planet and now they are fighting as Guerrillas to help prevent the same thing from happening to other planets. They could be introduced by unexpectedly saving the turtles butts at some point.

If Allopex's origin story is true then we might end up seeing some of the other animals that were in the same lab show up as Foot hench men. In the Rapheal micro series you can clearly see a white duck, and a bat in some of the other cages. There also appears to be a small alligator and a mole... maybe (those ones are hard to tell).

How about a limit on generic monsters like in the 2003 cartoon? I don't think that having a couple of aliens that have had their planet ravaged by an intergalactic warlord declare a vendetta is that "ridiculous", and having aliens that resemble Earth creatures isn't that ridiculous either. The Neutrinos are almost anatomically identical to humans yet I haven't heard anyone say that's unrealistic. Besides convergent evolution of unrelated species on Earth is not unheard of, if the aliens were from a planet similar to Earth it wouldn't be that unrealistic to imagine that some of their creatures would resemble ours by chance.

I think that having unique characters with unique origins would make the story more dynamic instead of using the "here is a new character insert generic origin story" formula.

For my mutanimals, I'd have man ray, jagwar and leatherhead for the first three and they recruit pidgeon pete (who gets eaten by shredder later on) and mondo gecko and merdude. With the loss of pidgeon pete they disban and eventually merdude becomes a tyanicall ruler of atlantis and the turtles go to stop him but get captured. Splinter calls mondo gecko for help and mondo finds man ray and leatherhead, who recruit wingnut and screwloose and find the shell sub in the turtles lair and take it to atlantis and defeat merdude. (when merdude becomes evil he changes his name to the entity (from the entity of the ylintians) they free the turtles and the entity gets away but the mutanimals now joined by another merwoman from atlantis named versailla or on a quest to defeat evil from all of earth! And jagwar dies somewhere here

I like the idea of a new Mighty Mutanimals series for IDW. They could bring a lot of those old characters back, Not all of them are mutants however, Dreadmon and Jaguar are the only two that are non mutants.

Dreadmon is more a Werewolf then a Mutant, He was originally a human from South Africa, But then some Talisman changed him to a half man half wolf creature.

Jaguar was the result of a human female getting impregnated by the jaguar spirit and she gave birth to a half man half jaguar creature.

I kinda hope they don't go that route with all the mutants. I like Mondo as being Mikey's best bud... not a member of a group. Leatherhead works best solo too. I mean I know everyone thinks because Alopex is turning on shredder and Hob is thinking about forming a team that three bad mutants is going to turn into a failed cartoon concept from the 90s but what I think is that Alopex will either be killed by shredder or take off on her own.

Corvus, you don't have to worry about the return of The Mighty Mutanimals in the form of IDW. A group of anti-hero actual mutants yes but not the heroic allies alien and mutant of the TMNT. The idea is different yet it does callback to it in the sense that it is a group of animorphic animal-like beings otherwise its completely different. Leatherhead would be a great addition to this group when he inevitably shows up.

The guy who writes GI Joe was at his side and said it wouldn't work with this version of the TMNT, making jokes about Mondo. I'm not asking for wacky, slapstick Mutanimals. What I'm excited to see is the characters done seriously. I want a black ops/covert team. Sure Mondo could still be the Michaelangelo off the team but that doesn't mean a bumbling idiot. For that matter, the TMNT are in New York. Let this group be in California and come to New York on a mission. It allows you to widen this universe without greatly impacting the Turtles continuation but still having the availability to cross stories from time to time. All I'm asking is for them to give me an excuse to give them more money. Have Eastman draw the first cover to lure in readers and hope the story carries it.

Leatherhead: Human transformed by magic
Merdude: A merman from Atlantis
Wingnut, Screwloose, and Slash: Aliens from Demension X who's planets were decimated by Krang.

Had the animated series gotten off the ground the group would have expanded to include Ninjara...but she's not a mutant either as her people are a natural anthro Fox race off the coast of Japan.

The ONLY mutants were Mondo Gecko and Ray Man.

Actually Merdude IS a mutant in Archie. Read the Merdude mini-series, he tells Ray Fillet that he was a human from Atlantis who came into contact with mutagen.

But having Alopex and Hob on a team together? That just doesn't work.
Why not? Alopex was always a servile type of character, but Hob is a born leader from the beginning. In #1 he alread has his own gang. Plus, he is old, and he already went trough a lot of **** thanks to the humans he knew, so he could act as a mentor to Alopex who is actually pre-teen.
It could totally work.

Mondo Gecko can work, but they seriously need to re-imagine his design... it's definitely not impossible to make him cool, geckos are cool animals (no pun intended about lizards being cold blooded):

The first thing they have to do with his design is getting rid of the stupid hair.

I always hated when reptile mutants have hair. It's just look so wrong to me.

Every time I've been at an IDW panel I bring it up but this last time the CEO shot it down like I was the biggest dumbass on the planet.

I get what you're saying, and it's cool that you're intrested in those charachters evolving into something new, just hope for the best man, and try not to let negativity get to you. In the end, that's all any of us can do.

What panel was that? Wasn't the TMNT panel, and our CEO wasn't at ANY panel this SDCC...

...There's no reason we can't do the Mutanimals, done right. Not saying we will do them, but, there's nothing stopping us.

The only issue I have with "bringing back the Mutanimals" is that Hob is already putting together a group of mutants that will in essence be an homage to them. So having the actual Mutanimals in this book would kind of be redundant. That's the only reason I can think that the CEO treaded you like a dumb@$$, since IDW has always made it a point that they value fan input. They really do want to write what we want to read.

Where would you put Dreadmon and Jaguar then?

Dreadmon is more a Werewolf and Jaguar is more a Hybrid due to a natural birth due to a human mother and jaguar spirit.

Jaguar is a demi-god. The son of a human and the south american god of death.

Dreadmon is like Leatherhead. Human transformed by magic.

As much as a TMNT fan that I am... I kinda wouldn't waste money buying some kind of spin-off series. Again, I preffer Mondo, Leatherhead, etc as they are, solo characters. And if there has to be some kind of mutant team, keep them as part of the story in the main book. There's no real need to make a whole other series about them.

Hob's deal is a completely different thing. It's not even worth comparing. He's out to make a mutant army to destroy humanity. Not some ragtag super hero team.

A mutant terrorist group. That is something that I want to see in the comics cause it has not been done before.

It was at C2E2 in Chicago. He was also concerned about copyrights since they were originally done through Archie. Honestly, I don't think he was familiar with what the Mutanimals are at all and was probably a little annoyed with a fanboy stopping him in the hallway to further discuss it. :tlol: I'm really hoping to at least see a trade of the Mutanimals mini series and nine issues.

Wishful thinking, I mean about the team Hob might form even being a homage. Why do people assume that?

If you meant with animals, then yes I agree.

Maybe because a cat is the leader and he's already clearly an homage to Nick Nick Fury, and the concept of the Avengers is similar to the concept of the Mutanimals. Its a stretch, but it can't be completely discounted.

I think Lucky there was being sarcastic. And, yeah, I'd agree too, on both counts.

Hob a tribute to Nick Fury? Now THAT'S an interesting take on him, LOL! (In Samuel Jackson voice): "I'm putting together a team...."

Uh oh. Hob hasan eye patch. He MUST be a homage to Nick Fury. Why are we so desperate to see the mutanimals again?

Same thing what I wanted to write, also, this is why I compared to him to Magneto.

Btw, I just read #24, and I won't spoil anything, but I'm starting to really love Hob. After all, it was a great decision that they introduced/created him to IDW.
