A group here did a motion comic that is amazing and very well done. It was very ambitious and at times looked like it may have hit and end. Yet here we are with a great video. Now that project was very grand in scope. It took a lot of some of the participants, now here I am to propose something along the lines but different at the same time.

I know this is dating my self a little but I remember my Dad sharing with me some of his childhood by listening to old radio shows he found on cassette tape. Many of car trips I listened to the Lone Ranger and The Shadow with him. This motion comic that this group did got me to thinking though, instead of motion comics why not a radio show version of TMNT.

We have scripts more or less. I mean think about it. There is volume 1 – 4, Tales of the TMNT, Archie, and IDW. All there and just waiting for someone to mine for ideas. My proposal is that we select the Archie comics that seem to be popular with a lot of us here and do a radio show with it.

Members here could audition for voices, some could do sound mixing, and others could do splash pages to be the picture in the video. If people wanted they could do multiple parts. As there wouldn’t be panels of the comics of course we would need a narrator who tells the story. So it would require some work.

People doing voices could record like five issues worth of lines at a time. Then we split it up amongst multiple people who want to do the sound editing. Then every other week, or every two weeks we release a new episode. It is a huge commitment I know. But I think the love of the franchise we have on this forum we can do this. What do you others think?

I'm game. I have a "gig" I need to get finished first, but I'd love to help.

I've had the same idea in my head for a bit, but more for a continuation of the Fred Wolf 'toon.

Jester has been very kind to write up a script for us. I've been talking to him about where we would start with this project if we did it. Looking at Archie we realized that the first few issues were all retellings of old FW episodes. Instead of covering ground that has already been covered we thought we'd start with issue 5 sense that is where new stories start to take shape.

I understand that some of you already have other things going on. This thread at the moment is more to see if there is an interest in doing this. If there is, then we can move forward. But before we get to far ahead we need to make sure people want to do it. I rather take some time get everything in place and make amazing project, then rush it and hope it stays together.

The project sounds interesting. I may be able to help out down the road with more of the editing and putting the audio to images, but I'd like others to get a chance to take part first. I will keep my eye on this thread and see how it goes.

As far as images go I'm thinking we need to just have a logo page, a credit page, and then a piece of art for each show. So it wont nearly be as graphic heavy as the previous project. The biggest thing is going to be sound mixing.

Jester is okay if I post a link the the script you did so people can see what is being thought about?

I can definitely help out with putting it all together. Especially if it's not as graphic intensive... It will help me develop my editing skills more... We could also house these on the VoiceComics.MutantOoze.org site I have had for the original project.

I would love to join, perhaps doing either voiceovers (particualrly Bebop, Raphael, Splinter, Leonardo, and some of the minor characters) as I have a desktop sound system along with Audacity. I could also help with the sound mixing, particualrly using some of the background music of the OT I have uploaded onto Youtube as Archie spun off of the FW 'verse. I have every Archie issue through #62, so that's plenty of issues for me to read over, much like looking at storyboards beforehand. Please consider me!

It's great to see the interest in this. I'm talking to a few people getting things in the initial stages. I'm trying to figure out how to do casting right now. I'm going to have to look through the first few issues we would be doing and then I'll start working on casting people.

I'd love to be involved in this. I do a pretty good Michelangelo. Just watch any episode of Andrew's The Hal + Kyle Show that the TMNT appear in.

One of the big things is casting, and it has been the thing I've been wrestling with the most. Talking to a few different members on here I've come up with what I think the process will be for casting.

I'll be auditioning each for each part, two parts each week tell they are cast. You'll have to send in a recording of set lines that I will post. Then once I have the files I'll organize a poll that will be open for a week. People can vote on who they would like to hear in each of the parts. I will then use that feed back in making my choice.

It seems the most fair way to do it so that it is the least bias.

Share that script, Hob...needs some revision help anyway. :D

All I did was try to combine the Archie issue with the action descriptions found in the Random House A Fishy Adventure children's book, with a few tweaks here and there.

Guess I need to reread it. I read it when I was pretty sleepy, seemed good then ;-)

Master Splinter had the idea of just panning down each page and doing voice overs. No animation of the comic. So there is that idea too.

Linkara? Not sure what that means, but that was something me and him talked about. It's something that will have to be thought about.

So here is how this is going to work. I’m going to post lines for characters I’d like you to record. It is some of the lines from the first issue we will be recording. Just record these lines.

Once you record them upload them onto the web. When that is done PM me with the name of the character with a link to the files. I will except submissions for a week for each role. After that week the files will be posted for people to listen to, then we will have a poll open for a week for people to vote on.

With the votes and my own discretion will be used in casting. I do ask that you keep in mind that this hopefully will not just be a one shot, rather an ongoing series. So it is a commitment.

That sad we are opening casting. The first two roles up for casting Krang and Shredder.

Here are the lines I’d like recorded for Krang:

WHAT?! What do you mean you spilled a barrel of mutagen into the sewers?! Saki—do you realize how costly that substance is?

You never cease to amuse me, Saki.

And Shredder:

I'll get to that, Krang.

Right now I must tell you of my plan for this evening-of how I'm going to make this a forth of July New Yorkers will never forget!

Hob and I were talking earlier, and we were wondering if we should do Archie, or if we ought to do IDW instead. We couldn't really come up with decision, as both have their merits, so we figured we'd open that up to those of you who might be interested:
Should we do the Archie series, or the new IDW series as audio dramas?

Vivi

This is a fantastic idea. Archie or IDW, I don't mind. Personally I'd love to hear the mirage comics.

If this takes off, would you consider doing a podcast? I think some of the better one-shot fan-fictions would be alright too, as they are designed to be read without pictures.

Cowabunga Carl
09-09-2012, 09:55 PM
The idea is to do this as a series. Like a new show every few weeks. The ideal would be a new show every two weeks. But if we had to do a new show every month that would work too.

With Archie we know where it ends, IDW is still going on. It is a big commitment what is being talked about here. That is why we aren't just jumping in.

Is this a guys only project ?

Is this a guys only project ?
Nope. That's a big reason we chose Archie off the bat, because it has more (it seems) female characters.

Hob, how many females are in IDW aside from April? This may have just made our decision for us.

Master Splinter

I'd say go with Archie.

So far April, Alopex, and Kari are main characters thus far. Then we have the other lab gal, the cop and other criminal in Mike issue, and I think some random Stockgen gal in Don. Oh and April's roommate in one issue. And Casy's Mom in his solo.

Now that I think about it there are a lot of female characters in IDW.

Do you know that Dimension X was originally an early 1950's US science fiction radio show?

I'd kinda like to do IDW.

My feelings about using IDW is that it is still new and people can go out and buy the material from pretty much any comic shop or find it easily online from a retailer. Archie however has not been in stores for a while, granted you can still find most issues pretty easily they are still most likely going to be second hand sales. If we use the IDW issues then theoretically IDW can possibly lose sales because someone can just listen to these to get the story instead of purchasing them.

I know IDW is reprinting Archie but I think to keep us safe from infringing on anyone's rights we should stick with the older material for now.

I'll audition for some parts. Sounds like a cool idea!

I'd much rather do IDW, but I'll try out either way.

I can see that, Splinter. Especially if we outrun our source material and we end up doing them not long after the physical release....at least with the Archie books, we'd have plenty to work with and we'd not run the risk of catching up to where the comics are being published.

At the same time, don't you think we might attract more people by voicing the current comic rather than an older one that only us older fans really know about?

Like I said, I don't mind either way, but both MS's point and the above are something to think about.

Jester

I don't mean to come off as "pushing" Archie. It's just the more I think about it, the more it seems that doing those would make more sense.

We can make fake commercials letting people know about the new releases from IDW. Or even for fan sites... I can just picture it now... "What would you dooo-oo-oo for Mutant Ooze...?"

This started off as an Archie based project. I think that would be the course to hold for now. I mean IDW does have a lot of female characters, more then I thought, but I understand MS point.

However that doesn't mean I think it should sound like the FW show though.

You don't have to sound like the cartoon. Whatever take you want on the character is worth a try.

Hey! Oniri! I know this project is not as visual heavy, but I would like to offer my services for the splash pages. Will they be from the original comics (Archies or IDW) are you looking for art drawn specifically for the radio show? Either way I would be interested.

Probably it's still an ongoing thing, but adaptation/scripting is a long process, it's fun, but time-consuming. This isnt something that gurantees fast and immediate updates, I'm sure we'll hear more on thi, but I can understand how long it could take.

Cowabunga Carl

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to find voice actors for the parts. We have a mostly complete script. My attempt to cast two characters at a time failed as no one submitted auditions.

I keep having random forum troubles when I try to respond to this thread... I would be interested in participating. Dunno if my voice would reslly work though, and I don't currently have any recording equipment. I do have a friend with some, and he's good with voices, maybe I can see if he's up for it.

Randomly, how faithful are you wanting to adapt these stories? As much as I love the Archie series, would you be willing to take slight liberties to make things flow better/make more sense/etc? I'm cool either way, just curious.
