2012 TMNT Replica Costume (Mikey)

[dericrw]

Has been in the works for several months with help from members on the RPF. Found this forum just recently and thought I should share it with some Turtle Fans.

[Powder]

Awesome work so far, I look forward to seeing more.

[Marksenad]

Saw the shell on RPF, thats coming along nicely. The whole costume is perfect

[TMNT-Collector]

amazing job so far, looks identical to the movie, i was thinking of attempting something like this soon, what material do you use for constructing the costume?

[Jephael]

Awesome work, man! Looking forward to seeing it finished.

[zkarlette]

Soo looking forward to seeing it finished! Great job!:)

[dericrw]

The raw casts slipped on for a test fit.

[Plasticplayhouse]

looking real nice so far. maybe a padded sleave will help keep the shoulder/bycep from collapsing.

[Lampy]

i'm liking the accuracy in the head mold. and i see that you went with the bluish-green skin tone mikey's been depicted in recent shows/comics. pretty good so far. can't wait to see the shell added. keep it up man.

[Zulithe]

WTF am I seeing. Is that a thumb or...

http://i.imgur.com/y9nKi.png

haha, jk. nice job. I think you should have used Nickelodeon feet though. Those are not the right feet, considering you said "2012 TMNT" if that is what you mean

Cool costume.

You have a snare drum you can play on?

[zkarlette]

I think you are doing a really good job! And the feet are fine since it has the movie look.

[Jahwabunga]

Great Job man. Looks a lot of fun to make!

[dericrw]

To quickly answer some of the comments:
1) These were just the RAW casts, padding will be added and it is being painted!
2) This was designed to look like the original TMNT I Mikey Costume, not the newest cartoons.

Shell is out of the molds ready for paint

Man.. The shell looks Amazing, can't wait to see it all put together.:D

[Lampy]

wow the detail is amazing dude! The shell alone looks like something I could see mounted on a wall. That is amazing work man. Keep it up and Im looking forward to the final product.

[NiNi]

This is looking great! I can't wait to see how much more this develops.

[Plasticplayhouse]

[Heckster]

Looking great so far!

[jacobzking]

we've been pretty busy working on the suit and updating on the RPF. anyhow, here's an update... ALMOST done. also, paint is pretty much done. at this point, I'm just waiting to get the shell back from my upholstery guy (he is adding straps/harnessing).

Oh Wow thats looks amazing. :)

[Lampy]

Wow that looks freakin awaesome. Its missing wrist bandages though. But everything else is spot on. I like the paint job and the sculpt is practically on-point. By far the best costume ive ever seen next to the actual movie suits. Great job dude.

[Drose18]

Woah! Thats awesome!

damn you! lol. after we got Derick undressed and got down to my computer I noticed a wrist band laying around. CRAP! we were wondering how long it would be before someone griped about it :) so don't worry, the suit has the straps (they were the VERY first thing I made for the suit), they were just left out of the photo. and he and his very pregnant wife still had a 3 hour drive to get home and it was already midnight by the time we finished getting him dressed and snapped a few photos.

glad you guys like the suit!

[lizard6king6]

Awesome! I have a mikey costume too but only hands, legs neck and head. Trench Coat for the rest of the body. How hot does it get in the costume, after 20 minutes in mine Im sweting profusely! Nice work!

[Lethal Lullaby]

Awesome! It looks really cool!

[TVsRobLowe]

Great execution. All of your work payed off - It looks awesome.

[Plasticplayhouse]

Beautiful custom costume!

[Powder]

...what's with your obsession with the TMNT playing instruments?

Anyways, craaaazy nice work, dude. Really really impressive. & I love the smile on Mikey, it has such a genuineness to it.

[NiNi]

-jaw drops-

Holy crap! I remembered seeing this earlier when it was still being developed. Looking at it now - I'm speechless on how incredible it turned out!

Totally awesome work~!

[Jephael]

...what's with your obsession with the TMNT playing instruments?

I take it you've never seen the Coming Out Of Their Shells Tour.

[twopinacoladas]

Awesome, that is the best fan made TMNT costume I have seen.

[zkarlette]

OMG!!!:o I can't believe this..it's incredible!

[jacobzking]

Thanks for all the kind words guys! Derick spent about 6 months molding, sculpting and casting and I waorked my arse off the last 2 months trying to get everything else together (paint, harnessing, mounting eyes, more paint, elbow/knee pads, etc).

The suit weighs 57lbs but isnt really too bad to wear. I walked a MILE AND A HALF in mine and the only real obstacle was seeing out of it in the dark. The silicone feet held up like a champ and really showed NO SIGNS of wear or abuse.

I know D won a few contests with his ($1,000 at one... present by Carmen Electra). I just went trick or treating in my neighborhood with mine. Its been great to see all the publicity this thing has received.

Thanks again Dromers!!!

This is looking so freaking Awesome! :D

[bwwd]

don's likeness is best so far, you should do something with these muscles tho, theyre very flat once you put costume on, maybe put some stuff in there to make yourself more bulky and muscles would shape more nicely.

Thanks bwwd. I wanted to add padding to the suit when I was wearing it, but decided comfort over looks. The silicone does a great job of keeping you warm. But there is room for some padding. Adding foam wouldn't work though because nothing wants to bond to silicone except for silicone for an odd reason.
In the future I may stuff the inside with some soft materials to give the muscles more bulk.

[dericrw]

Don is now ready for paint.

Hi, where's the thread I can't seem to find it.

[dericrw]

It's been a while since I last posted but the wait was worth it for me. I just finished painting and detailing the heads of the other turtles.
Here they are, REUNITED!

[Whatswiththeheadbands?]

I am speechless. They are Perfect.

Can't wait to see the whole costume when it's finished.

[Sabacooza]

Lookin' good man and I like the shell. I'm in the process of carving a life sized TMNT out of Styrofoam and it's a bit different than what I'm used to. I'm working on the shell right now but it's a bitch so far. I hate the process of rounding out an otherwise blocky piece of Styrofoam.

[DonatelloNinja82]

WOW! Great job!!:D:teek:

[vshen]

Wow!!! That is amazing! Really takes me back:)

[dericrw]

Well here is some pics of the weapons.
