TMNT #17

thanks for the solicits, ToTheNines! #17's cover is freakin amazing. i like it. although i am curious who the artist is.... if it's still khun... he did an awesome job on this one. but i find it weird that there's no artist credited in the upper left hand corner under the IDW logo.


EDIT: yup... it's khun. his signature K on the bottom right corner matches his #14 cover with splinter holding the sword. hopefully we get another interior artist though.

Haven't seen any recent Turtles they have done. Hope it is similar.

I hate to break it to Bobby, but the artist is listed in the IDW solicit, so I guess the cat's out of the bag! On the positive, I'm pretty happy with what I've seen! I guess we'll see how it works out in the ongoing, but I'm always excited to see new artists!

I'm pleased. That's pretty much exactly how I'd depict them. That kind of inking, though, is gonna be made or broken by the colorist, I think. Ronda's not bad, but I'd like to see someone more of the caliber of the guy who did, say, the Raphael micro.

That's exactly what I thought! Basically 4Kids with Duncan's teeth, which I don't mind. Here's a link to even more fanart, mostly of the Fred Wolf cartoon. I love his Slash and Mondo Gecko! No Splinter pictures though.

I really enjoy the turtles artwork he's done so far, but there's a good chance that it can change (like Santolouco) or evolve into something completely different (like Duncan), especially since none of this is official artwork, but it looks promising so far.

that's what i thought too... but WITH a hint of 4kids. and i am stoked! i'd say this is how duncan's turtles were in his first 4 issues without the huge teeth and rubber plastrons. i love it! i wish he gave it some comic-ish inking to it though (e.g. duncan's blurring lines or eastman's ink splatter). a little shading never hurt anybody. i will say though i like his long action lines. simple but effective.

It's very possible they took great influence from his work when designing the turtles. After all, they did hire to him to do a ton of style guide work for the series.

I've always suspected that myself, what with the close partnership with Mirage this time around. I've always liked the 4Kids designs, except for those sloppily tied belts, in my Andrew-esque nitpick. I always prefer the cleaner Eastman/Laird or A.C. Farley straps.

i agree... his sketches are pretty wicked. i like his motion shots too. i've seen his non-tmnt layouts... but i want to see what he can do with this title. "a sample, i say!"

As much as I'd love to see a collectors line based off of the IDW designs I think it is a pipe dream. Though that art does look amazing and I'd love a figure/statue like that.

What a pity Playmates is a company doing products not for serious or hardcore collectors but basically toys. ( Toys are cool, nothing against them )
As a guy, loving TMNT but not Playmates, i bought the new Nick series 4 Turtles only. They were really wicked cool. And in a way, comic-friendly.( or comic-fan-friendly to be more precise ) But i think, doing a figure based on an artist's work is not Playmates' way, to be honest.
Tho,there were cool stuff in the past from them, yeah...
Those 4 Turtle statues with interconnecting bases ( i love them even more than Sideshow's statues ), Turtles based on Jim Lee's designs and that shiny Fugitoid staction collector figure. Love them all.
But at he moment i do not wait any comic related figure from them.
Wish NECA's line was not cut in half.
