Hi everyone...

Well, here we go! The third installment of our young teens in green. This ep will be posting in early October, but I thought we may as well get it up for people to start thinking...

I am SO happy to see TMNT back on television again. I remember how much fun it was for everyone to jump on each saturday to discuss the day's newest episode, over-analyze every detail, and generally have a great time. We had also posted a poll in these threads each week. So be prepared for some good (and sometimes cornball) questions in the future...

Hopefully that will help our old-timers and newer members get comfy and mingle. :)

So!

No matter what universe of turtles we're in, some things never change: Mike is a hyperactive brat, Donnie's a nerd, and in this episode's case... Raphael's got anger issues.

Looks like Splinter may need to give Raphael a little lesson in anger management... if the poor boy can't handle sibling banter, how can he handle the average New Yorker? Hopefully he won't be having any ideas involving Raphael singing "I Feel Pretty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voufbcx2nRI)" on a bridge in Manhattan...

I think I'm gonna love Splinter's 'lessons', if they're like this... (http://www.nick.com/videos/clip/tmnt-103-clip-insulting-raphael.html)

And of course, in this world of youtube, twitter and the like, everyone's trying to be the next big star. And this kind of footage would be worth $$$ to the right (or wrong people).

So the boys may have their hands full if anyone catches any footage of them. The turtles are going to have a hard time trying to stay out of sight in this modern world's technology. Let's just hope that Donatello's self-taught knowledge of these things will be enough to get them out of hot water with the media...

(I have missed doing this! :D )
WILL THE BOYS FIND THE VIDEO?!
WILL RAPHAEL GET CONTROL OF HIS ANGER?!
WILL MY CAPSLOCK EVER STOP WORKING DURING THIS PART OF THE POST?!

You know the drill...

STAY TUNED!!!

Having you do topics like this brings back memories...

I probably won't see it 'til late tonight. Got work :/ Last week I was "lucky" enough to be "able" to stay home sick.

Watching the preview it seems Mikey names the mutant, "Spider Bite" like he named Snakeweed.

Unfortunately this is starting to feel repetitive to me. This episode seems to be the same "mutant of the week" formula they kinda used with Snakeweed. I hope this does not bode for the future. I don't want every episode being another mutant fight with Mikey naming all the mutants in every episode.

Hopefully this ep is better than the previews make it look.

The next episode is called "New Friend, Old Enemy" so we can assume it will focus on April and Shredder, so i doubt there will be another mutant next week. I actually like the mutant of the week concept though.

I thought Michelangelo naming the punk after he mutated Snakeweed was a one off thing. Here he names Spiderbites. That was one of the handful of second wave figures correct? I don't think I like this design like I did Snakeweed. It seems cartoony not scary or cool. If only Michelangelo could give Oroku Saki's alias its name!:D

It doesn't bother me at all that Mikey names the villains, after all they always have the weirdest names. Makes sense that it's because Mikey named them.

I think there is no need to worry, you worryheads;)...
this is just a running gag, doesn't mean that this will happen in every episode they are facing someone new...
I wish everyone able to see it in I think a few minutes actually much much fun!

Watching it right now and have to say I'm glad that they are jumping into Raph's anger sooner rather then later. Also I'm enjoying having someone who just wants money as the villain. I mean there is no reason other then this guy is just a jerk for him being a villain. It's kind of fun to see no vendetta against the Turtles.

I called it. He does have a vendetta because he is Spiderbites! The turtles are two for two in accidently mutating a human with something against them. I liked how that was done with Chronos in the orignial cartoon but hope it does not become a formula this time around especially if the opponents are one shot like these two seem to be.

This was a pretty cool episode. I loved the part this one part with Splinter:

"Spike, chew on your leaf if you want to hear a story."
*Spike chews on leaf*
"Very well."

Can't wait for the next episode. We get to see the Foot and a pre-mutated Dogpound in action!:tgrin:

That's Chris Bradford AKA the soon to be Dogpound.

Well yeah we knew he was Spiderbite, but his motive against the Turtles isn't because he is working for someone. His hatred at the moment is because they ruined his get rich quick scheme. It was a nice change of pace from hating them for being them.

And it is cool we get Dogpound next week.

Love your episode posts! Definitely one thing I've missed

Anyways I liked this episode. Yes the mutant thing is a a bit repetitive but hey...it is a children's cartoon.

I like how this show always makes me laugh. I love how The Krang's talk.

Excited for next week!

Sorry for making a double thread. If anyone is able to lock it, by all means please do. I thought it was really awesome that Lewis Black guest started on the show and did the voice of Vic. I am also starting to like The Kraang's humor more and more (the scene where one of The Kraang's comment on how good he looks, as he watches the video Vic recorded of the fight between them and The Turtles). While Spider Bites does look cool, I still love Snakeweed. Since Spider Bites got away, I assume he may possibly come back but I loved the joke Donatello. The human form of Vic was really annoying (as he was intended to be). Overall a good episode.
Also, you'll notice that before someone gets mutated, there is a brief foreshadowing (as The Turtles enter the warehouse their is a scene about spiders. In Rise of the Turtles, when they Turtles integrate Snake, you see a glimpse of tree). When The Kraang talk about Kraang (the leader)I get more anticipated for his debut.

Well that episode was just delightful. I'm glad that the borrowed the Yoshi was also angry in his youth story from the IDW comics. I like that even though Leonardo is the Splinter Jr. that Splinter and Raph shares elements as well. I liked the whole Raph and Mikey thing in the beginning, I've said it before and I'll say it again I love how brotherly the group feels in the new show.

Spiderbites was a pretty decent villian, I was shocked when he started barfing up the corrosive slime, it was a nice way to make the guy who probably had no experience with fighting a serious threat to the Turtles. Also liked that he was just a guy and not some enemy from the past. I also really liked how he was basically a human surrogate of Raph, kind of a this is what you may become if you keep giving in to your anger. Also liked that Raph was big enough, even before his talk with Splinter, to know that there was a time and a place for his anger and tried to save Vic from the Krang.

Very happy that they dealt with the Raphael anger thing up front. Even though the scene where Leo, Don, and Mike were insulting Raph while shooting arrows at him was a little heartbreaking. It served as great character development for Raphael who has others have said didn't seem to get a lot in the first episode. It was refreshing to see that this Raph is the insecure and lonely Raph from the original Comics, the masks his feelings behind his anger. What was even better was that even though that is his MO his brother's are fully aware of it.

Finally to address everybody an their fears of it being a Mutant of the Week show, I have a strong feeling that next week will break the trend. I feel like we will be introduced to Chris Bradford and an animosity will begin to fester between he and the Turtles which will eventually lead to his volunteering to be mutated once the Foot and the Krang form and alliance (or the Foot get their hands on some Mutagen). Either way very excited for the introduction of the Foot next week and I also love that they seem to be including the Shredder Elite in the show... I hope that we eventually get a figure of them

Lewis Black is a stand up comedian. He's also an actor, author, critic, but basically, he's known mostly for playing an obnoxious guy who rants about everything.

Makes sense Lewis Black would play that kind of character on TMNT.

Other roles he's done was in the movie "Accepted" with Justin Long.

He was also on an episode of Law and Order Special Victims Unit as a shock jock.

It does make me wonder who else they would get for TMNT.

It makes ense why I never heard of him. I looked through his filmography and have not seen anything he was in. He seems to be a character actor that plays off a certain comedy routine that made him known to some.

It would make sense for us to look through voice actors/actors that Nick has used in the last 5 to 10 years for its shows to see who might match a character upcoming.

Casandra Peterson (Elvira) is going to be in season two.

Hmm, if I had a dream team of voice actors for TMNT 2012 it would be:

Robert Englund (did voice of The Ridder in The Batman. Aside from playing the iconic Freddy Krueger, he could do a kick ass job as villainous mutant.).

Paul Rebeuns (maybe not a mutant villain but a human villain).

Frank Welker (I would like to have actually him voice a character then do monster and animal voices).

Bruce Campbell (possibly could play The Flaming Carrot).

Curtis Armstrong

Tim Curry

Larry Drake (hasn't done anything since 2009 but if anyone is a fan of Darkman he does have that villains elegance to him).

Chris Ayres (did the voice of Freiza on Dragon Ball Z: Kai)

Trying to think of female names lol.

Great episode. I liked how Donnie kept correcting the others on technicalities, I do that often, haha.

I don't think that looking on who was involved with nickelodeon in the past years will give you a better grasp of who might be working on the show in future episodes as a guest starr than lets say just randomly guess who...
this is the turtles, remember..one of the worlds best known comic/cartoon characters..their names tell pretty much everybody in the western world something..also with two succesfull actors already working in the main cast, why would viacom limit itself to old employes(so to speak)...basically many more well known people I guess would have fun to crack it with the turtles for an episode or two;)...
I would love to hear kevin conroy somewhere in the show if possible;)

oh-the dogpound thing next week:it could be possible, too, that he just gets contacted by accident or in a fight and the foot need not work together with the kraang or he must 'volunteer' to be mutated...(what an obnoxious notion, by the way;)..)

Dunno if it matters or is accurate, but I watched it with captions on and they had his name as "spider bytez" or something.

I'm still not convinced there is a leader Kraang, or maybe there isn't one yet. They could just be saying they want to show it to another Kraang. They just all have the same name so it's unclear so far. Maybe they are some kind of hive mind or whatnot.

Bruce Campbell (possibly could play The Flaming Carrot).

Would be neat.

Well said!

I also liked how Leo stood up to Raph by kicking him out and sending him home. Never really seen that before...usually it's Raph choosing to leave the group but this was a bit more hurtful to him I feel because he wants to be in the fight, but his anger jeopardizes the group.

Another good episode. LB's character was more interesting than I thought he would be. I look forward to future run-in's with "Spider-bites", and I hope Playmates has a toy of him in the works. The Raph-centric story was great. It was the main theme, but it also didn't dominate the entirety of the episode. We still got good bits of the other three in there. Was really cool to see another one of the Kraang's buildings. Makes me wonder if we'll ever see the TCRI building in the show.

Next week's episode looks like it'll be good. I wonder how Shredder got Chuck Norris on his side, and then gave him the body Arnold Schwarzenegger once had, lol...I like the look of his Elite Foot get-up. Would be cool to see Playmates release a toy of it (either as him, or just a random Elite Foot). I wonder when he'll be mutated into Dogpound. Unlike Snake and Vic, who would have been uninteresting otherwise, I'd like to see this guy shelled-out...:trazz:...a bit before they mutate him. Would be a good opportunity to see how this Shredder treats even the best of his followers, and how the Foot operate.

I thought the episode was pretty good. I wish they advanced the arc a little bit more, I was hoping for some more April development and to find out at least SOMETHING new about the Krang or their motivations, instead we just get another random guy turning into another random mutant (which isn't the worst thing in the world) and some more fighting endless groups of Krang.

This would have been fine if we learned more about the Krang's story but it started to feel a little bit monotonous especially because they were fighting in the same dark city street setting and then their lair didn't even have a background it was just black (It could also just be monotonous to me because I watched the first 2 episodes 3 times).

Which makes me think: will we ever see daylight in this series? I hope so. I would love it if the Turtles use their trenchcoats from the OT in broad daylight and no one bats an eyelash I think the new series could potentially pull off some of that classic cartoon logic. :tgrin:

There were alot of funny moments in this ep, that seems to be one of the strongest aspects of the show. Next weeks ep looks good and to be a change from the patterns of these first 3.

Really liked this episode. I liked how they showcased Raph's anger and how Leo sent him home to work on this temper. I also loved Splinter's backstory and how Yoshi's and Saki's rivalry was formed due to Yoshi's temper. Spider Bites was freaky, but not as creepy as Snakeweed. Still, I know we'll see more of him for sure. I really like the Kraang HQ, though it looks as though this isn't their permanent HQ. I wonder if the Turtles recovered the video though, or if the Kraang still have the phone?

Someone already mentioned the Splinter quote, so I won't repeat that one. But here's one of my favorites:

Leo: Prepare to dish out the wrath of justice!
Don: Seriously? Just yell, 'Get 'em.'

Overall, a great episode. Can't wait for next week's. I'm loving this series more and more.

glad you all seem to like the new episode

Of course it could happen next week, however with what seems to be a majority fear from members on the board that the show will be "mutant of the week" I think it would be better for the show if we meet and get to the know the character of Chris Bradford as a human so that we understand why he would mutate himself or embrace an accidental mutation. Its all just conjecture at this point. Plus I don't think they will mutate Shredder's number two in his first appearance.

TurtleTitan97
10-06-2012, 11:49 AM
I get the feeling we won't be seeing Bradford mutate in the next episode since the kraang don't appear to be in the next episode based on the preview. So maybe Bradford won't become Dogpound until Shredder teams up with the Kraang.

Not crazy about this show. I guess it's too much to hope for that the silliness will ever be any less than it has been for these three eps, so I'm disappointed. I'm still more likely to watch this than a lot of other contemporary cartoons, but I find the silliness too overwhelming to be emotionally invested in the characters or plot. Other than that, I have to say that Spiderbites is the strangest character design I've ever seen for a humanoid spider.

I really enjoyed this ep! I thought it was much better than the premier episodes, probably because we got to see some character development instead of just an “intro to turtles” story. I also thought it was much funnier – less stupid humor and more humor…humor. Favorite parts (in no good order):
Splinter: Spike, chew on your leaf if you are in the mood to hear a story. - A long time ago, a man fell in love with a woman…
Raph: Oh gee, is it that late already-
Splinter: Sit.
- I felt so sorry for Raph when Leo sent him home, though I think Leo was totally justified.
Leo: You left the three of us in a fight so you could go YELL AT SOME GUY!
- Poor Don, nobody uses tape anymore.
- LoL Raph’s a porcupine.
I liked Mikey actually defending himself against Donnie.
I really liked that part too – Mikey’s not always a punching bag. Though it made me kinda wonder about Donnie who is, apparently, at the bottom of this food chain. I mean, Raph and Leo both got away with it! Big question of the episode: was there really a spider on Mikey?
- Don: Uh, guys? Let’s not fall through this floor!
- Their reactions when Raph comes to the rescue. Awww!
- All the brotherly banter throughout the ep, which I know some people here will call abuse and bullying. I don’t know, I get a more comradely vibe. Are these forums just full of only-childs?
- Kraang: We should show Kraang this picture of Kraang. (That’s another thing, the Kraang were less annoying this ep)
- Splinter says some line about how ninja’s shouldn’t be seen in HD that was really funny.
Annnnnd I’m sure there’s more, but you guys are capable of seeing all this for yourself, anyway. Great ep!

Ok so it does seem that Shredder's mono/family crest is a foot. Hmm...interesting.

This was a pretty cool ep. The Kraang are quickly becoming my fav villains for this series. The way they talk and I like that they're a bit narsisistic.

Poor Splinter. He blames himself and his anger issues on the death of his family.

And what kind of spider did that guy mutate into?! I don't know of any species that spits out lava! :o

Just watched the episode (thank you west coast feed) and although I feel it wasn't as exciting as the premiere, it was still really good. It was Raph-centric, but still had focus on the other three and gave us some more insight on the whole Splinter/Shredder rivalry. Also glad to see Raph is starting to learn to control his anger... at least enough that he won 't screw up a mission. Although I felt bad for Raph, Leo sending him back home was completely justified and very leader-like.

Next episode is looking good and we're getting to get some Shredder scenes! Looking forward to it!

Nah, I'm really digging it too. They've got a pretty great dynamic going on between all of them, in my opinion. I'm especially liking some of the one-on-one interactions, like the Raph/Don banter in the first couple of eps, and the Don/Mikey scene in this one. It's cool to see that they all seem to have a unique relationship with each other outside of the four-man team thing.

I'm finding that I'm enjoying the show in spite of myself. This is not the sort of work that stands up to any sort of scrutiny.

Random thoughts:

Why and how is April Don's source? What could she figure out that Don wouldn't?

The plot seemed anachronistic. If obnoxious pre-mutant #2 is in tune with modern Youtube culture enough to immediately whip out his camera phone, I feel that he should be savvy enough to know that people don't pay for that sort of stuff, and that he should definitively be smart enough to know to make a backup copy.

In fact, for all of Don's talk about the guy having a cell phone and not a camera, he seemed pretty oblivious to the fact that in all likelihood, getting rid of the cell phone wouldn't solve the problem at all.

Still getting a bully vibe from Raphael. And the other turtles relished the opportunity to get under their brother's skin far too much for my liking.

Was it just me, or were the Kraang actually stealing Mutagen from whatever it is they were raiding? I don't see any other reason to explain them carrying stuff into their van.

I wonder if we'll ever see someone take over Snake's role inside the Kraang's organization.

Spiderbites' design is cool, although like Snakeweed, I don't see much of a role for him as a long-term villain.

I was actually surprised to see the video get seemingly destroyed. I was expecting it to get online, where it would catch the Foot's attention.

Could somebody please confirm if Leo ever got to slash any of the Kraang in their human suits? I got the impression that he didn't, but I'm not 100% certain.

I find it somewhat weird that Splinter (still the second best thing about the show) is telling different bits and pieces of his past to different turtles. It's not implausible, but I'm not sure how I feel about it.

The fighting continues to be a highlight; the way its choreographed makes up for how sanitized it seems, which is something the 4Kids toon only occasionally managed.

I learned earlier this week that some of the people working on the show had previously worked on Teen Titans, and that's probably the show that's the best match to this TMNT, comparison-wise. If it manages to be as good as that show was, then I'll be satisfied. That said, like Teen Titans, I doubt this show will stick we met he way the 4Kids toon did.

I have to say when I first saw the pictures of Spider Bytes I wasn't impressed. Still not a hundred percent impressed with him, but Lewis Black voicing him really helped. And I kind of do what a figure of him.

I find it interesting that people say they would have liked more of the old Playmates figures to be in the OT, and now we are getting more mutants that will surely be toys but people a bemoaning them being in the show.

I like Splinter telling his backstory to different Turtles. It gives him more character development and gives us a glimpse of what his human life was like.

Also, I don't get a bully vibe from Raph. He just has a temper, and Splinter was trying to teach him to ignore the insults, which is why he had the others insult him. It was a lesson Splinter was trying to impart that he himself had to learn in his own life. It makes him seem more like a parent trying to encourage their children not to make the mistakes they made when they were younger.

My problem with this episode is it didn't feel like anything new. We have another battle with the Kraang and another mutant who we met as a human.

We learn nothing new about the Kraang, the mutant this time is uninteresting outside of good fight scenes, and the episode felt too repetitive. We also see nothing of April which is a bad idea.

The good parts of the episode was everything about Raph and Splinter.

I hope this is not what this show will be like most weeks, being a kids show doesn't mean it has to be repetitive. Mutant of the week can be done well, but this was just the same situation as last time.

Only thing that puzzled me was Don learning about the Kraangs heist from April... Why would she know?

I mean, if they establish in a later episode maybe that she's researching them on the internet or something... Maybe a nod to her OT newsreporter roots, which would be cool with me. She starts a blog or something reporting happenings with the Kraang to help the Turtles find her Dad and stuff.

Of course for that even to work out it would mean the Kraangs have to be pretending to be some kind of business upfront or something...

Spiderbytes is an interesting new villain for sure... I don't mind yet another new mutant appearing as right now we're working on giving the TMNT villains to fight.

Well that episode was just delightful. I'm glad that the borrowed the Yoshi was also angry in his youth story from the IDW comics.

Not sure whether it borrowed from the comics, but I'm glad to see that aspect carried over too. It even has the same "river over a stone" analogy, if I recall correctly...

Yes, there is a leader for The Kraang. The 1980's Krang which is going to debut in season two.

Is that confirmed? I'd be okay with it, but I'm starting to like the idea of a "hive mind" type Kraang. It would make sense since they aren't a species with a physical advantage.

Anyone else thing it was real lazy how there was like no background in the Kraangs lair?

Probably more budget constraints rather than laziness. I didn't think it was distracting.

I'm worried about a repetitive mutant of the week formula.

I'm not a huge fan of a mutant of the week formula, but it doesn't have to mean the entire show is repetitive. Even if the episode's plot with Spider Bytez was (as far as we know) inconsequential, the writing is strong, and I found myself fully entertained nonetheless. That's certainly more important than if the main plot progressed but I couldn't care less. Even with the (perceived) formula, we still saw a lot of great character growth with Raphael, and a few more important bits of Splinter's back story. It's okay to take their time (they do have 26 episodes to fill, after all), so long as they keep it entertaining, I've got no complaints! 4Kids will probably have stronger continuity, but the writing is much better in this show, in my opinion.

Why and how is April Don's source? What could she figure out that Don wouldn't?

Who knows? It's certainly not impossible, especially since we don't see what she's doing off screen, so until we see something that directly contradicts, I'd say roll with it :) Maybe she's been doing research on her father's kidnappers and stumbled upon something, as another poster suggested. Just because it's not flat out fed to us doesn't mean there can't be a good reason.

The guy was pretty old. Just as my mom is "aware" of camera phones, that doesn't mean he necessarily knows how to upload it Youtube. Plus, it seems like they went back up to the surface the same night, so it's not impossible that he didn't get around to making a copy just yet. Or maybe he did and it will come to light later?? Again, not something so unthinkable that it's distracting.

Still getting a bully vibe from Raphael. And the other turtles relished the opportunity to get under their brother's skin far too much for my liking.

They are teenaged brothers who have had to deal with Raph their whole lives. This was perfectly realistic to me. I admit I was initially a little uncomfortable that Splinter would allow the turtles to cut loose like that, but I realized that, if anything, this is an episode all about how to deal with bullying. "Let it wash over you like a stone." Sure, bullying is bad, but I think how to deal with a bully is more valuable information to kids than "bullying is bad." No need to hold their hands, most kids are smart enough to understand that.

Spiderbites' design is cool, although like Snakeweed, I don't see much of a role for him as a long-term villain.

Totally looks like a Pokemon!

I was actually surprised to see the video get seemingly destroyed. I was expecting it to get online, where it would catch the Foot's attention

Already did that in the 2 part pilot. No need to retread that plot point.

The fighting continues to be a highlight; the way its choreographed makes up for how sanitized it seems, which is something the 4Kids toon only occasionally managed.

God, the sequence where the the Turtles are trailing the Kraang's car without Raph is just beautiful. The movement and soundtrack in this show are amazing.

Also, lol'd at "Spike, eat your leaf if you want to hear a story" and the one Kraang verbosely talking about how handsome they look in the video.

You know what, though? This episode would actually have been stronger without a mutant villain. And I see they're still in no hurry to flesh out April, which may or may not become a problem.

I just watched the first 3 episodes for the first time and they were great. It was good to have Lewis Black doing the voice of Spider Bytez, his character Vic slightly reminded me of Muckman from the original series.

Although this is a good episode, it's a terrible 2nd episode. It is way too similar to the premiere and just feels like filler. Already. Shunt it down the lineup, is all I'm saying.

That said, the episode itself was pretty funny. The voice actors are really bringing it home, and how is it that Splinter is the funniest, awesome. And as already mentioned the action also is well choreographed.

However, the Kraang lair must be the easiest fortress ever to break into.

"Let me tell you a story," is the opening line to every issue published under the Tales of the TMNT banner.

Yeah I feel the same way, they used the same formula already, it’s like there in a hurry to sell the new figures by introducing new villains. I hope this doesn’t get repetitive like in power rangers or something.

Am I the only one that kinda felt that we didn't need Spiderbites? I kinda think the episode was just fine with the Turtles having to battle the Kraang while trying to save an ingrateful jerk, as well as also making sure they got the phone. I didn't think a random mutant monster was needed, especially that far into the episode.

Also, based on how Snakeweed and Spiderbites look.... according to this cartoon's logic, why don't the turtles and splinter look like monsters? I'm sure they do look weird to normal people, but based on the more monsterous designs of these guys, the Turtles and Splinters should have big fangs, sharp claws, spikes here and there and long Venom tongues. Compared to the other mutants, the Turtles and Splinter look pretty normal.

And finally... why didn't Raph know how cellphones work? NOONE uses tapes anymore... and the days where only the super geeky nerds know what computers and technology are all about are way over. Cellphones with cameras are pretty commonplace nowadays, and Don knowing how they work doesn't really make him much a big tech head.... it just makes him 'normal'. So does Leo watch tv cartoons and Don play with computers while Raph sulks around with his pet turtle all day, sheltering himself from the rest of the world or what?

cool! thanks man! i never played that game so i was unaware of the homage. but pretty cool idea though. i'm liking the fact that they're introducing new characters. and it looks like raph is developing his character in just a couple of episodes. my worries that the characters are stereotypical of their personalities is being alleviated a little... well in regards to raph anyways.

you know... i've always wondered why don knew all these processor tech jargon but didn't know what a pizza was in 'Rise of the Turtles'. i'm guessing raph just doesn't care too much about tech stuff... so that would explain why he didn't know how they would work. after all... they've been sheltered underground for 15 years.

So does Leo watch tv cartoons and Don play with computers while Raph sulks around with his pet turtle all day, sheltering himself from the rest of the world or what?

well, I think donatello just has this urge to correct these kind of things whenever there is need too...that souldn't nessessarily be taken as a means to show that he is superior smart;)...at least not really here..
but to be quite honest with you, me I wouldn't get into learning how exactly videos are captured in today's technology either;)...I just haven't spend time figuring that out, so I don't feel that raph is exceptionally slow here,)...
also to tape something does just imply to record something..and in my understanding donatello as I said just has that urge to adress how videos are recorded with phones instead of how you used to record with tapes and films;)...

by the way...I like how splinter moves his ears while talking..that is a really cool observation about animals...I think he finally really looks like a rat, too..I love him maybe the most out of all characters so far!!...his line '...that might prove difficult when there is evidence in high definition' was very funny to me;)...also the cool little things they are incorporating in the animation are a joy to me..like leo twisting one of his katana before going 'prepare to dish out the mighty wrath of justice' or how he uses the swords to stand up after after a blow..great..oh, the dynamics in the fights, beautiful!I loved the scene in the beginning against the kraangdroids(nice term, leo) where michelangelo is moving towards camera and the wayhe lashes out the nunchuku into the camera is so energeticly captured..it's just big fun to watch...

Someone already mentioned the Splinter quote, so I won't repeat that one. But here's one of my favorites:

Leo: Prepare to dish out the wrath of justice!
Don: Seriously? Just yell, 'Get 'em.'

Splinter quote is good as well but I couldn't stop laughing when Don told him to seriously just yell get em. In the old 80's toons each time Leo had to say something dramatic to get them to charge, I always wished someone would say exactly that to him, but since they didn't I was saying it.

was a fun episode but i don't really like the design of spiderbites. wish he looked more like a spider. yeah, he still technically has 8 legs (4 new ones on top, plus his human arms and legs) but if you missed his mutation you can barely tell he is supposed to be a spider.

still bugs me how empty the cityscape look. even 1 or 2 random people in the background, even just for establishing shots, would go a long way. Regardless of the area of NYC it can't be 100% empty at all times.

Enjoyed this episode a good deal. The premiere of the show being an hour (or really the first two episodes combined to make one full hour episode) sort of threw me off when watching the true 30 minute slot, though. Nonetheless, really enjoying the new show thus far.

Excellent episode. The strong points of the premiere are carried out in this one as well:
- genuine humor
- the fighting sequences (top notch animation/visuals)
- Splinter's funnies and words of wisdom
- the brotherly interactions (bullying, teasing, etc.)

Can't wait for episode 4; has potential to be even better than the 45 minute premier. Chuck Norris C. Bradford FTW!

hello everybody

i must say i was a bit disappointed
first: what was the turtles' original plan? what kind of lab was that and why did the kraang disappear after the spidermutant showed up? i felt the ending of the episode was like no real ending. the spider jumps away, the turtles don't follow him (so let the mutantfreak wrack new york or what?) and they seem not to care anymore for the newly found kraang hideout, eventhough the whole agenda of the tmnt in this episode seemed to be exactly about finding that place.
i also didnt enjoy this "training" where the turtles would shoot with arrows at raph while insulting him in childish goofus manner.
also i was surprised that splinter would talk about shredder and not oruko sagi. i would have wished for a longer build up of the shredder persona.
anyway, let's mostly hope that this show won't become a mutant of the week show.

I don't think it's that unrealistic for Raph to not know about cellphones. I mean, they only just found out what pizza is. The tech they do have in their lair is pretty retro (TV, arcade machine, pinball machine). Makes sense that only Donatello would know anything about flash drives.

I enjoyed the episode, even more so on a second viewing (in high quality in Nick.com). My only reservations were Spiderbites/bytes/whatever, because it felt a little too similar to the Snakeweed situation (guy gets hit by mutagen because they're being a jerk, takes revenge on turtles for ruining his life), and Splinter's story to Raph. That, too, felt a little too similar to the back story from the first episode.

However, apart from those nitpicks, I thought this was another great episode.

A much weaker episode than the first 2. The bland black backgrounds for the ten minute fight scene had me bored. Just unimaginative animation and the spider sucked too. I don't mean to be negative! Also raph is my favorite turtle and I love me some sam wise but he seems to be the most boring turtle in this cartoon so far. lol. We'll see what happens later on though

Yeah, it felt exactly like a watered down version of the premiere. I will say that splinter outshined raphael in their discussion in terms of characterization. The new splinter is portrayed pretty well. Wise but a bit cocky, I like that. The fact that this is the 3rd episode, and it feels like filler in the middle of a season is a little scary though.

The fact that this is the 3rd episode, and it feels like filler in the middle of a season is a little scary though.that is entirely what it felt like. the first episode introduced a lot of characters and gave them a big motivator going forward: rescue april's dad! in this ep, sure it seems like they are trying to accomplish that, but you don't get the impression anything moved forward. basically the turtles got sidetracked with a new villain and raph learned to control his temper a little.

it had a few good moments but felt like such a drop from the pilot that it did kind of bum me out.

if I were to give it a grade, it would be a C.

the kraang are really starting to bore me. they are totally incompetent in battle and they all look the same. again, feels bland. i hope they have some generals or something that will liven things up. not to mention they have all this ooze and seem to just be moving it around without using it for much of anything. they could... you know... create some of their own mutants to help them, maybe? i hope they have a good reason for moving this mutagen around, because so far it doesn't feel like it. I am patient, just giving my impressions so far with the info we currently have... which isn't much.

Looking forward to next week as eager as ever.

Yeah you share my thoughts exactly. I like the darth shredder sound and look so I hope they bring him in sooner rather than later. These coporate kraang looking robots are already stale for me. I also really hope that raph is more than just a hot head in this cartoon. I love the hot head role in the first film and mirage but it does get dry. He can be so much funner with wit and zingers.....I know donatello stole that role now. Probably why Donatello is my favorite turtle in this cartoon. I feel strange even typing that.

This episode was mostly filler and didn't impress me, but its far from the worst TMNT episode I've ever watched. The concept of Raphael being tempered with his brothers is nothing new and the jokes didn't seem that funny for the most part, except for the spider monster who made all of those frog jokes. The buildup to the battle with him was ok, but I was disappointed in the action. I do think Spike is cute though in that having a non-mutated pet Turtle is a nice original concept for this series.

I agree with others the whole mutant of the week is bland and uninspiring. Even the OT didn't do it and when they started doing it in S5 it did get repetitive by the end of the season. At least the OT mutants had personality the ones here so far are just as boring as the mutants we saw in 2k3, very generic.

Other than that the episode was good, the slow story arcs building will probably be great. I definitely see the Teen Titans influence and I love it. I love that the turtles have great personality traits and aren't just parodies of their traits like in 2k3.

Next episode looks awesome. Let's see if they can deliver "darker" episodes like Teen Titans could.

Depends on how you define "well written." The 4Kids show was, frankly, bland and boring and took itself way too seriously. This show is much more fun and the music is better - the voice acting is better - the designs are better - the Turtles characterizations are better - it beats the 4Kids show in every way, except in adherence to the Mirage comics. I'm surprised to say that, because this is a kids' show, and I did not like many of the changes when I heard about them. But the show has a wacky, freewheeling aspect and that makes up for any changes to the mythos.

I'd love it if this show would adapt some of the Mirage stories, but so far, I enjoy it more than the 4Kids show.

The 4kids series was not just a great TMNT show, it was hands-down one of the best action cartoons of the 2000's, only rivaled by the DC animated shows at the time.

You're comparing a light-hearted comedy series to a serialized action cartoon...there's obviously going to be one that brings more short-term laughs.

Ditto. For example, the dialogue in this show, after only three episodes, has already proven itself to be snappier, better characterized and more believable than that of the 4Kids series.

Maybe we'll find the 4Kids series was better plotted, as a whole. But line-for-line writing? Nuh-uh. It's already blown it out of the water.

I agree that there's not a contradiction there yet; my point is that it's a weird detail to leave undeveloped, given how little we know about April. It'd be fine if they'd said that she'd been looking through her father's files or that she had any sort of researching skill, but as is, it just feels like a nothing bit of info--a tidbid just to remind us that she exists and to make a joke about Donny's creepy crush.

I mean, it would make a certain sense if the Kraang had actually kidnapped somebody here--then one could surmise that the intel was the names of people related to Kirby's field and whom he would conceivably have written notes about. However, they're not kidnapping--they're specifically stealing stuff here, which goes beyond what anyone knew they were doing based on what we saw in the pilot.

However...there's the part where what the Kraang appear to be stealing is the mutagenic ooze, which complicates things. If the ooze is something created on the down-low by humans, then its conceivable that Kirby knew something about it, and therefore it's conceivable that he had some information which April could later find. However, if that's the case, that would mean that the ooze is human in origin, and I'm not sure how I'd feel about that.

Already did that in the 2 part pilot. No need to retread that plot point. In the sense that the scenes would play out somewhat similarly--in an episode that already feels like a retread--yes, and in that sense, I'm glad it didn't happen. However, I think there's quite a bit of difference between "learns of Hamato Yoshi's presence" and "learns of the existence of possibly unrelated (unless he can identify the fighting style with a glance) turtles and some weird identical-looking dudes.

I totally agree. We've only seen few episodes but to me, that's how obvious the difference seems to be. I don't mind that 4Kids wanted to take the characters more seriously, heck, that's what I generally prefer. But Nick's turtles are easily more interesting and relatable. It's not as dark or serious, but that's a matter of tone, not quality of writing.

Even with Michelangelo played as the dunce in both series, Nick pulls off making him both naive and loveable. One of my favorite scenes is when Mikey is trying to "intimidate" Snake with his skills. He's silly, but it also shows how earnest he is in being a good ninja. Good writing can turn an inconsequential joke like that into a subtle character moment. 4Kids Raph seems like someone who can't get over himself, but Nick Raph seems like a kid who just needs to grow a bit. That's the appeal of TMNT: the oft-forgotten "teenage" aspect means they have a lot to learn, and they are sincere about it. Nick is blowing 4Kids out of the water in that respect.

Because it's a lot more believable and endearing here. The fact that people are okay with some of those stunts here should speak more to how much better this series is handling the characters and tone, rather than people somehow overlooking its flaws.

The thing I hate most about this new series is Mikey being a punching bag all over again. I appreciate most aspects of the show (although it's a bit kiddy for my tastes), but reusing some of the same negative aspects of previous shows just for laughs, is highly irritating. IMO, there is much more to Mikey than just comedic relief and I hope they explore that. Outside of Michelangelo being flanderized in the later seasons of 4kids, I never saw the Turtles interactions to be forced or poor. And in Season 1 and most of Season 2, Mikey was great.

The difference you're seeing is the Turtles are acting like real 15 year olds for the first time in well...ever. In every other incarnation they act like College students sharing a dorm. I think that's what everyone is noticing...not that the others were, "bad."

So in just 3 episodes you feel as if the Nick show has made the entire 4kids series into a chore to watch? I find that hard to believe.

Just this summer I rewatched all 157 episodes of the 4kids series because I wanted it to be fresh on my mind before the Nick cartoon started. While there were some bad episodes from time to time, the majority of the show was very well written and all the characters, again with the exception of Mikey, were handled pretty well.

It sounds like some people are letting the initial "freshness" of a new series make it seem better than past stuff automatically, you have to wait till the freshness dies down and look at things in retrospect.

Nope. But in just three episodes, it has managed a level of comfort and naturalness with the characters the 4Kids series never achieved.

Doesn't mean that fifty episodes from now I'll believe it's the overall better series. It just means that in this one regard, it's already far stronger.

Surely, though, I am being fooled and deceived.

I truly believe its because for now, things feel fresh and new. After Season 1 is done and we're all, "used" to how the Turtles interact with each other this time around, it probably won't seem as interesting.

This is the same thing that happened when the 4kids show started in 2003. People thought it was amazing and the bashing of the original cartoon started for being inferior. Then the "Freshness" wore off and people realized they still liked the original cartoon for what it was.

Now that the 4kids series is the, "old show," now it's the one getting bashed while the Nick show is being treated like the best thing ever.

And then you have the nostalgic fans who grow up with each older series refusing to give the new ones a chance. It's a cycle that never ends!

I'm sure this is true with many folks, but no one is bashing on 4Kids. We are just of the opinion that in one particular regard, Nick is doing noticeably better. It's possible it's the "freshness," but instead of speculating on something that we won't know til it's "worn off," stick with the actual points being made. There are other kinds of bias besides liking "new" over "old."

I've been here at the start of almost every new TMNT incarnation. When something is, "new" it automatically feels better than what we had because we don't know what to expect.

It's like when you get a new girlfriend, she's so different than the old one and you don't know what to truly expect out of her since everything is so new and different.

I know most of you were not around back when the 4kids show started in 2003, or when Volume 4 returned before that, or even back in the old Image days in 1997...I assure you I've seen this time and time again.

But even if you realize how the writing in the first season actually wasn't as good as you initially thought, it'll only be because you're being blinded by the newness of the second season... -__-

I have no doubts that you have. I said it myself, I'm sure it's true with many folks. But you can't claim to know that about each and every single person. Some people are able to have actual valid opinions backed by reasoning. Some of us are trying to do just that. If it's absolutely absurd, then fine, but if it only seems absurd because you don't agree, well...

Yeah, from what I recall from Ciro's proposal to Nick, he pitched part of the premise as "anything" can be a mutant. Plants, spiders, etc. Not exactly my preference for a premise, but good writing can make a big difference on whether it be any fun or not. So far, so good.

One last post about it. An objective reason why the writing for Nick is better than 4Kids so far: 90% less shell puns. Even when 4Kids came out and I definitely enjoyed it more than the Fred Wolf cartoon, I couldn't stand the ubiquity of those puns. Ugh. While I felt the writing was improved, it definitely never quite reached "great," at least in my humble opinion. It so happens (and quite fortunately) that each subsequent series has had improved overall writing.

Okay here's my show recap and observations...

In the opening sequence, the boys are on surveillance, staking out a laboratory for any sign of the Kraang. The Raph and Mike banter is just like me and my brother. But usually my brother is the one being Mike, and I'm the one trying to grab and crush his fingers... :P

The introduction of Vic the balding 'slob' with the camera phone isn't all that interesting. But the fight he witnessed... holy cow. The choreography in this show is top-notch - I can't wait to see how they work Shredder... Anyways, Vic ducks out of sight and takes photos of the turtles fighting the Kraang. and he is seeing Dollar signs. Unfortunately, he manages to escape from the roof, forcing the boys to leave before the authorities arrived.

"We're not Frogs, you idiot!" - Ah, how many times they were called this in the old toon...

The boys return home to face a very angry Master Splinter. Their... what, second, third trip ever to the surface, and they've already been seen and recorded. Splinter's giving them the third degree, AND doling out some seriously sharp sarcasm when Raph tries to give the excuse that the guy said mean stuff to them. Not a good excuse when it comes to parents...

Splinter's body language is so expressive - his ears go flat, his whiskers and eyebrows fluff up - even his whiskers. He's not nearly as plastic in design as the turtles. Not to mention Hoon Lee really delivers Splinter's voice So Well...

"You are Ninjas. You work in the shadows, in secret. This becomes difficult if there is proof of your existence in High Definition!"

Raph pushes the envelope (big surprise), and the wrath of Splinter is upon him. The poor boys all look petrified when Splinter orders him to stand up. In an unusual (and Extremely fun) scene, Raph is taught a lesson involving "Sticks and stones" and Arrows being slung at him from all directions. He doesn't do so well once the brotherly heckling begins. But... I do love seeing the boys use different weapons.

"You talk so tough, but inside you're just a scared little baby..."

After a barrage of insults and arrows, our porcupine-shelled Raphael gives up on his punishment.

Splinter tells Raph he must control his anger and use reason to get the video. Splinter's is NOT passive about this... He explains his strange lesson - Ninniku Seishin is the ability to endure insults with patience and humility Every ninja must master this. Splinter sternly tells them that they Must get the video back - using reason, not force.

The boys go back to see Vic and try to reason with him to get the video. Getting this polite request from Raph is like getting blood from a rock - and Vic's sarcastic insults really don't help. Raph breaks out in some Scary anime rage, which Leo quickly tries to quell. Vic wants money - a million dollars. Other than some tossed money from the gutters, greenbacks are not on supply...

The arguing and name-slinging attracts the attention of the Kraang, and Raph and Vic nearly get run over by one of their trucks. Kraang come out guns ablazing. Vic somehow loses his phone in the back of the truck, and goes in after it. Raph goes to get the guy while Leo's literally getting Stomped. Raph finds himself getting ganged up on by Kraang, while in the background, it takes Mikey's skills to save Leo from his beat-down. Raph is trying to convince Vic to leave the truck with him, but Vic's more interested in selling his video to the Krang. Raph gets thrown out the back of the truck, Kraang take Vic and the video and disappear.

The boys regroup, and Leo is beyond angry with his pissy brother. Leo, as leader, orders Raph to go home. This was the first in Any incarnation of the TMNT that I've seen Leo do this 'punishment'. The fact that Raph OBEYS this blows my mind.

Raph dejectedly returns home, bitching in kitchen to his pet turtle Spike. Splinter comes in and tells Raph a story of his past, a la 'Tales of the TMNT'.

"Let me tell you a story..."

Raph tries unsuccessfully to wriggle out of this story/lecture, but to no avail...

"When I was a young man, I fell in love with a woman"
"Oh, hey, is it that late..?"
"SIT"

(I love that scene...)

Splinter tells about the competition between Yoshi and Saki for Tang Shen. Shredder insulted Yoshi, Yoshi lost his temper and attacked Saki, making the rivalry worse until Tang died as a result.

Raph tries to reason that it was all Shredder's fault because of what he said. But what Splinter says is truer - It was he who turned Saki's words into weapons and lashed out. Splinter was so Serious about this... Raph's temper could have some very dangerous consequences for himself, or any of his loved ones. Splinter suffered for his choice - he didn't want his son to suffer the same...

Meanwhile, Leo Mike and Don find the place the truck went to and work on breaking in.

Now for our music buffs... the music here suddenly gets a LOT like the first movie. If you're watching on the nickelodeon channel, the music at 14:47 (http://www.nick.com/videos/clip/tmnt-103-full-episode.html) is very reminiscent of the music from the turtles returning to NYC in the first movie. 1:02:15 if you're watching this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMIVafe7y78). I can't get over the music in just the three episodes we've seen so far. The soundtrack really is great...

Spiders! Nice little bit of foreshadowing. Don... seems to be quite the punching bag on this show. If he's not getting used as a drum by Raph, he's getting tackled by Mike. Inside this building, the Kraang have taken the phone and talk about the usefulness of studying the video... and how good Kraang looks IN video. Handsome, even...

"Also, this is being a good image of Kraang"

While the Kraang are blathering about how good they look in the photos, the boys try to use the distraction to pull Vic out of harm's way. Unfortunately, Vic's obsession with getting paid for his phone pulls the Kraang from their self-admiring. Once again, another knockdown dragout begins. Leo, Mike and Don have their hands fulll...

Vic tries to recover his phone in the crossfire, but when he tries to grab it, he lands on the floor hard with the spiders. Up above, one of the mutagen tanks gets shot up, and both Vic and the spider get doused in ooze. Vic's cries of pain turn into horrific growls, and SpiderBytez is born - a mutated spider with buck teeth and four strangely shaped legs on the top of his head - he looks not unlike a very bloated hand.

The Kraang hightail it out of the building, leaving the three turtles to face the nasty arachnid. To make things worse, the enraged Spider starts hacking killer acidic loogies at the boys. The floor is getting riddled with giant holes as the boys try to avoid his attacks. Once again, we get a little Movie ONE action, and the boys start dropping through the floor levels.

Just as it looks like the boys are toast, Raph arrives to the rescue. Spider's trying to piss off Raph to get the upper hand, throwing as many insults as he can. But Raph thinks back on Splinter's words of letting the insults flow over him... "Like a River over Stone"

Raph focuses his anger to work for him, and gives the beast a run for his money. The boys join together, attacking all at once. The phone gets destroyed, and Spiderbytez flees to the rooftops and out of sight. Revenge will be had...

Leo and Mike tell Raph he did well, even for a bloated buffalo, and all ends well with Mikey in a headlock. Smiles all around until next week...

In all, I thought it was an alright episode (not really all that interested in Vic/SpiderBytez), But I Loved a lot of the Splinter scenes. He is really becoming my favorite Splinter hands down - and 2K3 had really raised the bar for me. But this splinter is special, for other reasons....

This episode could have been a good standalone without Vic becoming a mutant. A little character development for Raph, learning more of Yoshi's back story...

I really liked this episode, a bit too similar to the awesome first two episodes, but entertaining none the less.

There were two scenes I found hard to watch at first though. The first was the scene when Raph hold Mikey in a grip because Mikey seems to be in severe pain several times, but then I realized that Mikey seem to know that it was coming all along, he even knew what he was supposed to say. He would not have taunted Raph if he was afraid of what was coming I presume. Is he that desperate for contact/attention? Poor Mikey needs a hug.

The second scene was when the others insulted Raph while hitting him with rubber arrows. Having been bullied myself it hit a bit close to home, but after thinking about it I realized it was a good idea of Splinter. It allowed Raph to deal with his issues in a safe and controlled environment. Raph could call it off whenever he wanted, and only their words seem to hurt him not the arrows.

Oh come on!! now you’re going to compare the 2002 with this Kid friendly version? I mean really, It’s only been 3 episodes 3 FREAKING EPISODES!!

Don't get me wrong I have enjoyed this three episodes but they are completely different styles. And if you’re going to talk about the writing I think it’s gone a little repetitive and its only the third episode, I mean they fight the Krang trying to save some fat guy instead of April and they end up fighting another mutant again (like snakeweed), and we see another Splinter Flashback on how he lost his wife.
The jokes are funny but that’s not enough to make a show really good, storytelling is very important too.

I know every body has an opinion but I think its only fair that we watch more episodes of the new show to make a better judgement, don't you think?

Both 2K3 and this series are very different and have different styles. Neither is "better" than the other.

As for Mikey getting hit, at least he stands up to Don and dishes it back. 4Kids Mikey never did that and simply took the punishment with no repercussions to his brothers. And honestly, Don's the one who's been the punching bag twice now.

Somehow, it's okay for Mikey to lose it and violently resolve his problem? Not Raph, though. He's the angry one. This is something I dealt with a lot, growing up - the application of labels and how they result in parental double-standards. 'Course, Splinter didn't see the event in question; I'm just saying.

OH MY GRRSHHHH. Leo punishes Raph and then Raph actually learns his lesson? As the oldest child with two younger brothers myself, this was like, visual catharsis for me. Seriously. This doesn't hardly ever happen in the real world - treasure that moment, Leonardo. Treasure that moment.

I really hope that they don't start making new mutants on a regular basis, especially ones as ridiculous as Snakeweed and Spider-Bites, neither of them look like a human or the species they were last in contact with and they both have crazy powers. What happened to mutants that were just humanoid animals with the powers of the animal they were spliced with, instead of powers that don't make sense like super acid spit and limitless regeneration?

Heck no, I like many of the new things that have been done with the show to date such as the army of evil utroms, or the fact that April is much younger and isn't a reporter or a scientist (albeit a scientist's daughter) like in other continuities. Adding new elements or altering old ones is obviously the only way to keep things fresh and exciting its just that I personally am not a fan of the newly developed mutants which have been introduced thus far.

I just need to stop responding to these, but ...

Three episodes nothing. The new show is doing something well (good dialogue, characterization) that I always thought the previous show did badly. That's not an all-encompassing judgement on relative quality, nor is it something where we need to hold off and wait for a series-long average. This show has simply started on a high note in an area where the previous was at a consistent low.

If you disagree, that's fine. But if you don't believe that's a reasonable assertion to make at this point, or that it means anything more than it does, you're probably the kind of person who thinks kids' shows are for adults and uses multiple exclamation marks on the reg.

Good episode, as others have said they didn't really advance the major story arcs much and the were a few similarities to the pilot but that didn't stop it from being fun and enjoyable. I'm glad they're taking their time and not rushing things like Shredder and what the Kraangs are actually up to. Plus it was nice to get some character development for Raph this early on, hopefully the other guys will get similar treatment over the next few episodes. His scene with Splinter was priceless. I'm loving the relationships between the brothers in this series and how they're all recognisable but still have room to grow into their traditional characterisations.

Anyone know what (if anything) was cut from the UK version this episode?

I'm mostly annoyed by strange inconsistencies. The pizza thing, as an example, was funny the first episode. Yet in the second (or third if you will) episode has Don going on about how cell phones and flash memory work... But the previous episode, they didn't even know what pizza was.

It's just sort of a thing that you know Laird would have caught and said, "why did they not know Y, when they know X?"

And the monster of the week thing is getting old quick. We could have easily had a whole episode dealing with the Kraang and the human who got them on film. Mutating him just seemed forced and unfortunately sort of made me check out about halfway through.

What happens to these secret Kraang bases after the TMNT and mutant of the week battle it out? I was willing to believe that last week the base was destroyed, but this week? And why is there just mutagen everywhere? Why do the Kraang suddenly disappear when a new mutant shows up? The Kraang seem intent on killing the turtles one minute and running off the next.

Just so many plot holes and lapses in logic. I get that it's a kid's show, but these are some things that even the Fred Wolf show was a bit more careful with. Hopefully they'll find their groove soon and close some of these plot gaps while tightening the overall presentation so that it's not just a new mutant every single week.

Why do you think we're not going to get answers to what the Kraang are up to? It's pretty obvious there's a whole story there waiting to be told, which is why they're kidnapping scientists and are on the move. Be patient.

*The animation looked a little wonky to me when Raphael is "bullying" Mikey.
*April = Reliable intel, yet we don't see her. :(
*Man, bad Ninjas, spotted by a fat dude who sounds like that guy from the Daily Show.
*Raph is quick to draw his salad tongs on an unarmed, well save for his mouth, Vic.
*Why are the Kraang constantly moving mutagen around the city? I hope it's eventually explained.
*The Kraang can't even shoot the Turtles while distracted at almost point blank range...right....
*Adolescent Radioactive Kung-Fu Frogs!
*Ninjas don't notice closed doors...
*Snarky Mikey is snarky.
*Man the background music got loud...
*People still "tape" things despite not actually using tape, Donnie.
*Hot Heads are easily foiled by insults...
*"Um hum. Um hum. A cool mil of what?" :D
*Man those Kraang show up at the worst times...
*I agree, the learning curve fighting against the Kraang was kinda short lived.
*Bowling for Turtles.
*The show is pointing out the fact that people should notice all the Kraang look the same. Good...good.
*Go home and think about what you've done...
*Gotta love Spike's nonchalance.
*The reason Saki and Yoshi are enemies: Name Calling!
*"Spiders!" = Fore Shadowing!
*Mikey's mad as hell and he's not gonna take it anymore.
*The vanity of Kraang is very vain of Kraang to be so vain. In fact the song about the vanity of the person the song is about is probably about Kraang.
*Oh no, Vic is mutated into a...uh...spider? Yeah, that's it. Is it?
*3 is < 4, Leo.
*"Seriously, just yell, 'Get him!'!" Favorite Donnie line evar!
*Spider's spit acid and have 4 legs that come out of their head?
*Spider Bytes....he bites? He more spits acid. But I guess Spider Spitz is kinda lame.
*Here Raph comes to save the day!
*Whoever asked how Vic went from fat load to an agile man-spider thing was spot on.
*Did Spider-Vic fart when he hit the ground?
*Next weekend's episode seems like it'll be better than this week's...I mean, Chuck Norris is a Foot Elite!

Saw it last night, and I loved it.

Minor nit pick, the warehouse scenes lacked background, just because its supposed to be dark and you are cutting corners doesn't make it a good excuse to not have a background and the same crates placed the same way on different floors.

But besides that, I was gushing allover the animation

Wasn't a big fan of this episode, which is too bad because I loved the previous ones. Well I guess I loved them except for Snakeweed. So getting another mutant so soon, as has been mentioned, is pretty boring.

I did kind of like Spider Bytes' design though.

What bothered me most about the episode was the portrayal of Raph. There have been hints that his brothers--Don and Mike at least--are scared of Raph! Because they know they are no match for him! This bothers me as it places Raph so much higher than the others.

And Raph really is coming across as a bully. In the 2003 show he kind of became a bully (to Mikey only, really), but in both the 2003 show and in Mirage, Raph had to confront his anger because he lost control while sparring with Mikey, almost killed him, and genuinely regretted it and wondered what was wrong with him. In this episode there is no real learning on Raph's part, except to learn that he won't fight as well if he loses his temper...? He doesn't feel a hint of remorse for how he treats everyone around him. And then he continues to physically dominate Mikey. His line in response to Splinter's "Anger is self destructive" is to say "I always thought it was others destructive." He says this snarkily. So he's cool being destructive to others? I do love the brotherly banter in the series but sometimes I think it takes it too far without consequence, and since Raph comes across as pretty cool, the show is just perpetuating bullies getting away with things.

Also I am really ****ing sick of seeing Mikey get whacked by his brothers. It's too bad the only one he stood up to was omega Turtle Donnie.

But Splinter is the best. I love his voice acting and animation. I love the Turtles' animation too, and the fight scenes. The only things that bother me are the boring backgrounds and deserted streets (but I understand budget constraints), and the fact that all the people look pretty awful.

Lewis Black doing the voice of Spider Bytez is fantastic!
I really liked how everything looked in this episode besides Splinter.
I still feel he could use a bit of work on his fur.
Anyway I enjoyed Spider Bytez human form a lot more than I did the mutated one.
He reminded me a lot of a Power Rangers villain, in fact the episode that came on after Ninja Turtles had a villain that sort of reminded me of Spider Bytez.
I am really liking Mikey in this series and Leo is really remind me of old toon Leo.
It was cute how Mikey got to name Snakeweed in the first episode but this time round I find myself saying I hope this doesn't become a thing.
The Kraang are pretty funny I've got to admit, even if their speech annoys me a bit.
I do hope the female Kraang that we've been told about turns out to be the leader or like Queen or something.
Not really much else to says about this one besides I like Spike and Chuck Norris look a like next week lol

l

I can see what you mean, sadly actual 3D rendered fur will never happen in a CG show, like in the Kung Fu panda show, it seems like they are using movie CG models but without the fur modifier on. Not sure how it could be improved without making it look chaotic and look off-key with the rest of the shows clean and neat design.

too much texture work could make it odd looking

They didn't know what pizza was because it was funny to do a scene where they ate pizza for the first time. They're allowed to sacrifice a little bit of continuity/realism for the sake of a good joke.

Just a guess, but this might come into play in later episodes. I doubt Raph's character development would come to a screeching halt in episode three. IIRC, in the Mirage/2k3 versions the fact that he almost kills Mike leads to his meeting Casey, and the two of them bond over their anger issues.

I'm not really getting the whole "Raph's a bully" hate. I mean, it's not like he's going around just picking fights with his brothers out of the blue, Mikey is teasing him. In that final scene, Mike's pushing his buttons again and Raph almost seems like he's going to let it go, then gets this look like, "no, this is cool." I took that to mean that he's still feeling it out, when it's okay to let loose (playing around with his brothers) and when it's not (putting them in danger on the battlefield). Eh, I dunno, that's the way I saw it anyways. :D

very keen observation man!I think so, too....and michelangelo really WAS annoying to him in this episode;)....also, if raphael does this all the time with his little brother then he must have known the concequences for getting on his nerves and thus I think this doesn't bother mike too much...maybe he even enjoys this brotherly fighting...

I agree. Raph was getting payback for Mikey annoying him. I think Raph did learn his lesson about controlling his temper and how it could affect his relationships and his time in battle. What he was doing with Mikey was just goofing around just as Mikey was doing with him. Who hasn't had play fights with their siblings? My brother and I used to do it all the time.

I liked Mikey actually defending himself against Donnie.

I liked how Mikey was sorry for Raph.... And even seemed (to me) to miss him. Was it just me or did his Character change some once Raph was gone??? To me he seemed a little "Grumpy" toward Donnie:tsmile:
Really liked this episode. I liked how they showcased Raph's anger and how Leo sent him home to work on this temper. I also loved Splinter's backstory and how Yoshi's and Saki's rivalry was formed due to Yoshi's temper. Spider Bites was freaky, but not as creepy as Snakeweed. Still, I know we'll see more of him for sure. I really like the Kraang HQ, though it looks as though this isn't their permanent HQ. I wonder if the Turtles recovered the video though, or if the Kraang still have the phone?

I liked how Raph went home as told... Even though he didn't want to. I think it adds to his Character. I'm loveing this "New" Raph!!!!
I think Raph smashed the phone with his foot...

Yurp.

For all his bully hate, Raph does seem to care about his brothers' opinions of him in this series. I mean you can tell that he didn't want to comply with Leo at first--hell, he even looks to Don and Mikey for reassurance, but when even they are like, "sorry, Raph," he finally walks off. I think that little exchange is kind of significant, even though it's like 10 seconds.

Got to say, even if this series lacks organization and pacing a bit, the line-to-line interactions between the characters are awesome.

After really enjoying the pilot episodes, I wasn't a huge fan of this episode.

The set-up seemed a little lazy. April told them where The Kraang would be? How would April know? Did her scientist father regularly visit an abandoned warehouse in a run-down part of New York for work? It just seemed like an odd way to throw in a mention of April.

The repeat of Splinter's origin also seemed a little odd. We already saw that last week. Was it necessary to repeat it again?

And I really didn't like the way that Raph (and the others) were ultimately responsible for turning an unpleasant human (but not a criminal) into a mutant monster. Sure, the guy's anger and greed got him into that position in the first place, but it just seemed odd that the turtles role in his creation was brushed aside.

Finally, I'm really not a fan of the design of the evil mutants so far. Snakeweed was a pretty bizarre looking praying mantis/plant combination (with exposed flesh on the inside of his legs and an exposed heart) and Spiderbite was just a big ball with four spider legs sticking out of the top of his head. I personally prefer the more "humanoid" looking mutants from the 80's cartoon.

None of these minor quibbles is going to stop me watching this series, but this episode was a little disappointing after the pretty great pilot. I did like the focus on building Raph's "character" and I do like this version of Splinter, especially his humour and his obvious love and affection for his students/sons.

Thank you, that did help me see things differently.

Still, verbally teasing someone or gently annoying them is not the same as physically attacking and dominating someone. I personally feel Raph should not rise to attacking his brothers.

You guys are kinda jumping the gun here... who's to say Raph REALLY learned his lesson in this episode and won't explode at the drop of a hat in the next episode?

This might be like the 4Kids one where Mikey would learn his lesson and then be the same annoying jerk in the next episode?

We have yet to see if this show will actually let its characters grow and develop or will it just be 'status quo is law'.

The Turtles never go through character development in any of the cartoons. No matter what lessons are learned, they revert back to their personality stereotypes in the next episode.

If you actually think Raphael isn't going to get angry or yell at his brothers, etc. for the rest of the series, when we're only 3 eps in, you're out of your mind.

Watch Raphael get insulted by someone in the next few episodes and overreact. We know it'll happen.

[QUOTE=Icegaze;1007457]Excellent episode. The strong points of the premiere are carried out in this one as well:
- genuine humor
- the fighting sequences (top notch animation/visuals)
- Splinter's funnies and words of wisdom
- the brotherly interactions (bullying, teasing, etc.)

Just my opinion: I enjoy this chapter as first ones! Cant wait for more! More Spike, more Splinter´s wisdom&father rol, more Turtles and of course more enemies!!!!

I love this show! :tgrin: :tgrin: :tcool: :twink:

Even in real life it's hard to break those kinds of habits. I've been dealing with my anger issues for over a decade, and even though I'm not as violently explosive as I once was, I still have my occasional outbursts, so I find it perfectly believable that Raph is always going to have his temper.

Similar, but not quite. I personally enjoyed Leo "warning" his brothers that it could be dangerous. :D

I think saying they never go through character development is a bit extreme. I mean, yes, by the end of the episode Raph was already picking on Mike. And I think it was to establish just what you were saying: Raph is still the same hot-head we know and love. But I don't think the point of the episode is that he'll never be angry again. He is learning to control his impulsiveness, and can do the right thing from time to time. Even if his personality can still fly off the handle, I definitely like seeing him struggle and actually able to control it from time to time, if not all the time. I think that counts for some growth.

I finally got around to seeing the episode, and now I know what you guys mean about it not being as good as the premiere. I still liked it, but it was a little...off. Raph's anger like quadrupled from the previous episode, instead of a real progression, so that was a bit odd.

The next episode looks really good though.

As a hardcore Leo fan, I won't lie, I'm finding it hard to deal with Raph being shown as a clearly superior fighter compared to his 3 other brothers.
I always saw Leo as being either the most competent fighter or at the very least tied with Raph.

Hoping Nickelodeon don't persevere too much down this path and insist on Raph's main characterization being "the best fighter" of the bunch.

That being said, Raph is still my second favourite character in the show. :tsmile:
