If Wolf could find a way to sue Eastman & Laird, but lose, wouldn't he have a better case against Nickelodeon, considering the IDW comic's use of many Fred Wolf elements?

Don't nick own it all now?

Yeah, but that doesn't stop some folks who wanna play the litigation lottery. I'm not a great legal mind, so I ask around.

This thread makes no sense, stop it.

Mirage owned all the characters created for the old show, so now Nick does.

Early 90's; basically, he claimed since the cartoon was the reason for the Turtles' massive success, by owning the cartoon rights he should aslo be entitled to royalites for everything else.

Kevin talks about it in the Comics Journal interview (http://www.tcj.com/the-kevin-eastman-interview-part-i/) he did years ago.

Thanks for the link and explanation, I'd never heard of this before. Wow...I'm glad it didn't seem to go too far. While the original cartoon certainly did lend a lot to the popularity of TMNT, it still wouldn't have existed without the original comics, so Wolf trying to sue is pretty silly if you ask me.

Mirage owned everything except syndication rights which CBS owned and FWS now Lionsgate owns the distribution rights of the '87 cartoon. I don't see how MWS could sue Mirage. First of I have heard of it. Sure, the '87 cartoon is,but its just apart of a massive intellectual property.

Lets not go borrowing trouble here, folks. Something tells me Fred Wolf and the other producers and creators of the classic toon have no beef with Viacom over any of the new incarnations of the TMNT. Besides when you think about it IDW and Nickelodeon are paying homage to the original show. They're not doing anything to disrespect it.

I only think that would kill the franchise, as it would be so meaningless that it would just bring up a bunch of bad press. Bill Wolf seemed very nice at the Talkin' Toons event, and Fred Wolf seemed nice during the Turtledoc clip as well, so it is an afterthought that they would sue Nick. The only way they could is if they used some actual stock footage from the OT, which of course would be a dimwit of a move.

Hmm...that reminds me actually. In that 'Behind the Scenes' video that got put out for the new show, whenever they showed footage referring to the OT, they used footage from Turtles Forever. I just assumed this was because that was what they had on hand, but could it also have been because they could have legitimately gotten in trouble for using original show footage?

I have been a fan of TMNT since the late 80's and all but what does it mean when the original show is referred to as the OT? PLease explain this!!!:tgrin:

That's ridiculous. In that case, wouldn't the creators of the Batman: Brave and the Bold cartoon be in legal trouble for using elements from other Batman cartoons? Heck, Baby Doll sorta made a cameo in one episode.

Why didn't Wolf went after 4Kids for having a rhino character dress up as Rocksteady or the Krang cameo in "Secret origin part 3"?
