Sure we have a special premier thread, but like the 4kids series, each new episode had its own official episode discussion thread. I'd recommend to sticky this thread. My spoiler tags will be removed after the show airs in the UK the following Monday. This thread is about the episode itself, not about programming.

I've just finished washing the first episode, and it was a good start with the show. I enjoyed the animation since this is just going to be a Saturday morning series for the most part, and even the OT's wasn't that great. The street scenes and backgrounds are fantasticlly drawn. It's just that the humans could be improved, which I hope as the series progresses. I liked the tension towards the Turtles first going topside.

The first pizza reference was so funny when we saw Mike's brain explode, and then how as soon as he said that the pizza tastes terrible, the other Turtles quickly snatched it.

The Second Time About Antique store is a reference to Second Time Around in the Comics, Movies, and 4kids series.

This is the first episode in any TMNT universe since Planet of the Turtleoids, Part I in which April is kidnapped at episode's end. She is not mentioned by her name yet, as is a Kraang alien. I liked how Kraang can be disguised as humans, meaning that some clone plots are likely to be used.

Also, the Nick series returns to the three-act format from the OT, except that the theme comes partway through Act I.

We can finally say that the Turtles are back on TV!

aww this was great

I thought I would NEVER experience TMNT in a prime time slot!

I loved the whole show being 27 it paid homage to all old turtles

theme song has homage, mikey" that was us"... splinter with his lecture reminded me of the cop w/ donny in maltese hamster

splinter didnt decide who would be a leader right away

they didnt eat pizza off the bad

splinter is human in the beginning... the fights were great i like how they all use their weapons! no cutting or blood but raphs sai move was wicked

i just felt in heaven its great to have them back

people who do not like this show are not young at heart.. apperciate they are back

and yes i even liked DONNY w/ rob paulsens voice it fits much better.. similar to corey feldman in the tmnt movies... donny is the funny sarcastic dude

gunna be great cant wait til tomorrow!

Watched the preview it was great.Paulsen doing the voice of Donnie.New take on him.I think they were trying to find a voice similar to Berry Gordon and also a vetern of the original TMNT.So,I can live with that.Cipes as Mikie,he does a great job giving Mike a playfull attitude.Over all it was great.I am looking forward to the second part.

Not sure if spoiler tags are needed, since people probably shouldn't be looking at the thread if they haven't see the episode, but for now I'll follow suit with the first post. Right now my only complaint is that I watched this sneak preview because now I have to wait 14 and a half hours to see how everything turns out.

This episode was fantastic. I loved how the Krang were done and that they are a real threat as opposed to just canon fodder like the Foot Soldiers were in the OT. Loved the combination of hand drawn style animation with the 3D animation it broke up the flow rather nicely and I really hope that remains a staple through out the series.

I think my favorite part is that they got the fight between Leonardo and Raphael out of the way in the first moments of the episode, establish that bit right off the bat. Its especially nice when tempered against Leonardo being picked as the leader and his no hard feelings line. Its nice to see the best fighter does not mean best leader enter so early into the series.

I also love that they weren't victorious in their first battle, it gives these characters the chance to grow as opposed to starting them at the top of their game and having to come up with crazier and crazier villians each week to challenge them.

That's a foolish thing to say, if the show is good and hits you on an emotional level then you should be able to react accordingly.

Anyone else love how both Splinter and the Turtles are younger but still feel like a family?

Splinter is probably only around 35 years old (as Hamato Yoshi), and the Turtles are actually believeable as 15 year olds.

Ok for part 1:

I loved the 2D 60's style animation for Space Heroes. It was essentialy STAS!!

Leo is such a geek.

The picture of Splinter's family isn't in the tree it seems. Instead we have a framed photo of Splinter, Teng Shen, and their infant daughter on a bookshelf. Yeah. Karai could very well be Splinter's daughter if she was an infant 16 years ago or whenever it was he left Japan.

I wonder if Leo will forever have a fear of toilets? *lol*

Anyone really like April so far? I know we haven't seen her do much, but a teenage April makes SO MUCH sense now.

In the other series, the fact that she was older always made a bit of sense because I figured on the surface they needed help since they didn't exactly know much about the upper world. (Or like in the comics even though they were entirely capable, she gave them someplace to crash) In the shows context, unless the turtles get all chummy with who I suppose is going to be april's father, that won't happen.

Sorry but..
I had slightly low expectations for the show before I watched it, and now after watching it. It is still rather... a little over mediocre to me.

The jokes to me were not that good? I only recall bathroom jokes, a fart joke, and a burp? But... oh well.

The show reminds me of Kung Fu Panda, but with a darker background drop.

The animation, is still not that good. A million and one things could attribute to this though so I guess this is something I shouldn't think about to much?

I liked that Leonardo isn't as bland of a character anymore, and each turtle had equal screen time for once. Mike is still an equal of a goof to me as the 2k3 series, which has always been ok with me. Him being the comic relief that is.

Some smaller things bugged me a lot, like the pizza scene. That entire scene, and the beginning algae worm scene is just ridiculous considering they are able to get tv, comics, magazines, arcade machines, computer equipment, animals/pets, etc. That is just nitpicking though.

The show was just a little above dorky to me. I liked the characters but nothing really else.

I am thinking it will get better since this is kind of their pilot type episode, which is usually the worst produced episode of the series. I will most likely not be waiting eagerly for all the new episodes. It is an interesting take of the TMNT it just isn't my cup of tea.

Meh.

^ The first negative review. I knew it was coming.

The show had a consistent stream of entertaining jokes and amusing scenes. Splinter's, "Everyone above is a stranger!" the training scene, Mike being amused by the hand/eye lights in the store window, Mike getting his chucks grabbed from the robot, etc.

While I agree the CG could be a bit better in some areas, its hardly distracting.

Jester
09-28-2012, 10:37 PM
It's TV level CG, it ain't gonna be Pixar quality. If that's what you're looking for, than you're bound to be disappointed. Can't speak for the jokes or action because I've yet to see it due to work, but those whose opinions I trust like it, so I'm sure I will to...hopefully.

Exactly. I think everyone's expectations are too high on CGI because of pixar's literally AMAZING animation. This isn't going to be like that. There is no way anyone could afford to blow that kind of a budget on this tv show.

He made a funny? ;)

I remember the first time I ever heard that, i think I literally almost died laughing.

Why use cgi in cartoons when it doesn't look that good, or you can't afford something that even looks good? Or create a sleeker/better design to make it work a little better at least?

The CG is totally fine. The Turtles themselves look fantastic, and the way NYC was portrayed was nice.

I'll have to see a bit more of the humans before making fuller judgement though.

Jester
09-28-2012, 11:03 PM
To be honest shows like this should be less of an issue than shows like KFP, because there's not a superior product, like a movie to look at...unless you count TMNT, but that's a completely different style. I think that may be your biggest issue...not so much the CG animation itself, but the overly simplified/stylized character models.

HotJuicyBurgers

It's not that they don't have the money, I'm sure nick could probably dish out the cash, but let me use numbers.

Brave, pixar's last movie had a budget of 185 million dollars. The film was 1 hour and 40 minutes long. If you divide the time, pixar spent 1.85 million dollars for every one minute of movie. 1.85 million per minute.

Now, a normal ninja turtle episode will probably be about 23 minutes, so 23 minutes time 1.85 million dollars is equal to 42 million, 550 thousand dollars.

Pixar will spend the money because they know that they will recoup more than 185 million dollars. On the other hand, does it seem plausible for Nick to make back more than 42.55 million dollars an episode?

This is a very good first episode. I look forward to watching the second episode this Saturday, in a few hours from now. :P

I'm glad to be in an episode discussion here on The Technodrome Forums. It reminds me of when I used to read and post on the new episode discussions of the turtles 2k3 show.

Does anyone else think that....the young man on the motorcycle who drove near the turtles is Casey Jones? I think it is probably him.

I wonder if Shredder will be in this with the helmet off so we can see his face. It hasn't happened yet, but I wonder if it will.

Koi
09-28-2012, 11:21 PM
It might be. The "style" though whenever they move any limb bugs me though because their blocks start to cross each other and move around in their limbs very unnatural like. The background also bugs me and the humans also bug me as well though, they are all really stiff. It is like the wire frame meshing for the cgi didn't go over to well; when I watch them cycle through any movement, it all squishes and folds over top of itself in a lot of spots. Like a piece of plastic that has phasing powers to sink into itself whenever it touches the same mesh areas.

I don't know how to describe it. I don't think it is really the style but just the reoccurring problems with any movement of the characters, and the stiff features on characters that don't move at all.

I don't hate this show, I just think... it is vapid. Maybe a little above vapid. It is alright I guess to a degree?

This is going to quickly become my new favorite show. Good action, great humor, and obscure nerdy references. It has everything that puts a smile on my face.

On a side note, surely I'm not the only one to see what's in this image. Surely!

http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m556/Blade_Raider/vlcsnap-2012-09-29-03h29m05s179.png

If you still can't see it, Mutagen Man is on the cover...and my inter nerd and outer nerd are both giddy with joy :D

It's also a parody of old horror comics (complete with insane ads on the back and 5 cent price tag!). I can't make out the publisher's name or the Marvel style heads in the top left (though one does look to be a skull). Now, what I want to is who is "Matt P.?" I'm sure it's a reference to someone. Maybe the animator that made the comic?

Why am I getting so much joy out of this screenshot?

And I enjoyed the knockoff of Star Trek the Animated Series Leo is watching.
And Splinter is funny as hell.
And Raph is uses his sais like...sais!
And every Turtle is funny, even Leo.
And Corporate Raiders from Dimension X.
And a city that looks like people actually live there (Prime could learn from this!).

And even a reaction shot to sum it all up

It's so funny to see the kinds of complaints being lobbed at the new show... have they watched the OT lately? It is terribly CORNY, made for kids, always was, always will be. If you don't want to accept that the new show is the exact same only for a new generation, then kindly step away from the keyboard!

Judge it on its merits. It wears what it is on its sleeve! It is TV animation, so judge it by tv standards. It is made for kids and to sell toys, so judge it by those standards as well.

From the very first clip put online I could tell this was exactly what the show needed to attract an audience of 2012 kids and tweens and I think it is going to do fantastic. This is their time for the Turtles, not yours. If it pleases older fans like me and you, it is merely a bonus. Respect it!

What I didn't like:
- As mentioned in most of the official reviews, the humans look kind of off. Maybe it's something that will get better in time, or I will get used to it, but watching this episode I was always very aware that the humans were animated, if that makes sense. They weren't very believable compared to the turtles.
- There were a couple of jokes that I saw coming a mile off, like Leo making his speech, turning around to see that everyone had left and saying, "Guys? Wait up!" I mean, that has been done to death.

What I did like:
- Pretty much everything else. :D
- The jokes were evenly spread out between the characters so they all got a time to shine.
- Splinter made a funny.
- The turtles aren't a super-buff elite ninja team yet. They're inexperienced and rough around the edges and that leaves room for some character development.
- Most importantly, it was great fun to watch. It didn't talk down to kids and throw out cheesy puns every 2 seconds.

Can't wait to watch it again today, and Part 2.

That was awesome. Loved the animation, loved the voices, and loved the fight scenes. I thought the humor was well done and even the anime emoticons weren't overly done. I thought that it was great to show the Turtles are inexperienced and not just butt kicking ninjas right off the bat. I liked how that will lead to growth and how Splinter feels guilty that he even let them go up there when they weren't ready to be up there.

I think the only nitpick I had was that Splinter chose the leader a little too quickly. Yes, it was funny as it should have been, but it felt a bit rushed to me, though I loved Raph's reaction to it. "Stick it up your shell!" Methinks there will be a lot of conflict with those two for a while. I also loved the hand signals and Raph's reaction to them, Don's reaction to April, and the Kraang landing on Mikey as well as Mikey discovering the container. "Mom?"

Overall, a very good episode premiere. I'll have more to comment on once I've seen all parts and will include my favorite quotes as well.

Did anyone else notice there were some subtle differences between the clips we'd already seen and how they appeared in the episode? I'd watched some of the clips so many times that it was immediately obvious to me. At the end of the training scene, for example, when Raph says "Good job, guys!" after Splinter pinches him, they didn't have the lightning pain effect any more.

I had also been wondering why, in the Kraang brain clip, they'd changed it so that the brain didn't eat Mikey's head any more - now we know it's because they wanted to use that joke in a different part of the episode.

Did anyone else notice there were some subtle differences between the clips we'd already seen and how they appeared in the episode? I'd watched some of the clips so many times that it was immediately obvious to me. In the training scene when leo and raph clashed originally a blue x slashed the screen now it is yellow and thinner.

I think the new show is great, the humor is really good, i actually like the animation, the voices are perfect, and the action was also great. I like this way better than 2K3 so far. Here come some spoilers (idk how to put spoiler tags)

Spoilers!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leonardo is such a dork, but in a good way. I thought he would get annoying fast, but he was actually pretty funny.

Raphael was never one of my favorite turtles, but i think he is played very well in the episode. I'am glad that got rid of that horrid "new yorker" accent, and i liked the interactions between him and leo.

Donatello is my favorite turtle! I think he is pretty funny in this new series, he is more sarcastic and witty, and i thought it was funny how he has a crush on April. I can't wait to see more of Donnie.

Michelangelo was by far the funniest turtle. In the 2K3 series he was just plain annoying, but making him act a little younger in this new series was a big improvement.

Master Splinter was really funny. he acts much more like an overprotective father in the show, and it makes it really funny! "Make sure you go before you leave, the restrooms up there are FILTHY!' :tlol:

April was not a character we saw much of, yet. I think making her a teenager was a good move as she can now be more adventurous.

The Anime effects were not that bad. I know a lot of people don't like them, but i think they help express how the character is feeling. They weren't TOO bad in this episode, but hopefully they will just wind down a bit in the future.

Overall, i LOVED the episode and I can't wait to see the other half. I think this will be one of my favorite TMNT shows. oh, and one more thing, I thought it was better how Master Splinter had to pick the leader instead of Leo automatically the leader as he was in every other incarnation.

"Master Splinter told us to stay away from humans...and bathrooms" :tlol:

The Jester Pointillism "Review":
*They re-edited the training scene. The lightning bolts that flash at the pressure point after Splinter schools Raph are gone. I liked those.
*Ahhh good ole algae and worms. Maybe Yoshi/Splinter felt that even humanoid pet Turtles still like algae and worms...*shrugs*
*Mikey's the cook again. And his recipes are kinda gross...ahhh nostalgia.
*HAPPY MUTATION DAY! Though how can there be older and younger brothers with a...never mind. We all kinda assumed this is what they'd shell-ebrate anyway, right? Sorry....bad joke.
*New origin. No Chet. :(
*"That was us!" OHHHH NO!
*I do like the Kraang's broken English. "This place is a place where you are not allowed to be in this place." the line just seems to work if you know these people ain't human, but rather "a brain thing."
*Always laugh at Mikey's "MOM!" line.
*"Yes...and no." Splinter made a funny.
*Love Rob-atello. Like there was any doubt.
*Sad Turtle Eyes....adorable!
*Love the Filmation Star Trek: TAS reference. Is that Cam Clarke as Captain Ryan? I know it can't be but it SOUNDS like him.
*As pointed out, love Mutagen Man on the comic cover.
*Like the "katas" before the boys leave, I just hope it doesn't become stock footage.
*Splinter's instructions are spot on...well maybe except the bit about the toilets. Kinda ironic they live in a sewer, but the topside restrooms are gross.
*Farting Hob, a bit much...
*"There could be an adventure around every corner...there isn't but their could be!" Love Leo's optimism.
*"I dunna Donatello...IS IT!?" They seem to be nailing that these are 4 teenage brothers rather well.
*As I said before when the Pizza Taste Test video first hit:
Growing up in a glass bowl
With chameleons, lizards, and tadpoles
It hardly enters your mind
That there's something better than this.
A better treat than a carrot
Maybe a seed from a parrot
Believe me when I tell you
The word gourmet just don't exist!
*Ninja run weird.
*April uses A LOT of gel in her hair.
*Would a anthropomorphic Turtle really crush on a human chick? Still leads to a fun bit.
*Save April and her father Ron Howard, Turtles!
*Teamwork is sorely lacking...kinda like Darkness on the Edge of Town...I think that's the 4Kids episode.
*Raph's uses Sai Flip on Kraang. It was NOT super effective.
*"I didn't know you were going to land where I was stabbing." Not sure if just punchy, or if that line was really pretty funny.
*Kraang run weird
*Mikey uses Random Blade Flail on Kraang. It is super effective!
*Kraang's hug heads. I wonder if it's a set up for the Kraang takes over Shredder bit from Archie.
*"It was a humongous brain! And it had eyes, and a mouth, and it latched on to my melon. Weird, huh?"
*Pass buck to the right...poor Mikey.
*Wait...Mikey's right? I guess he is.
*Hamato Family Photo = American Gothic. All Yoshi needs is a pitch fork.
*Mikey for Leader. Why.... Just cuz!
*Wait for villains to show up, get sweet van. Wha? Worked before.
*"I'm thinking of something green. Green. Greeeen." "Is it Raphael again?
*Snake's face has a surprising amount of detail.
*Coach Leo says "Swing Away"...if you can read his hand signals.
*It's Mommy!
*Oh...Brian Bloom is Ryan. Who's Brian Bloom? He's Captain America?
*I thought Crankshaw sounded like Kevin French.

Ok...I'm done until part 2. :D

On the subject of the animation I love it, their movement just seems so fluid I was super nervous that the Turtles movement would suffer in TV-CGI I guess I just have to realize its not the Ninties anymore

Anyone really like April so far? I know we haven't seen her do much, but a teenage April makes SO MUCH sense now.

My problem was her lips for some reason they seemed so off it was distracting. Other than that I did dig her character so far.

*New origin. No Chet. :(

I don't know if I entirely believe that origin story, it seemed like the kind of story you tell a kid when they ask where babies come from when they are young. Add in Splinter's overprotection and I think there could me more of a secret to the ooze

Is it a coincidence that Michelangel first discovers the Kraang since he was the one who first met Krang or done to emulate that?

It's quite obviously an homage to the classic series, just as Mikey's "That was us!" quip was an homage to the first movie's origin tale, etc.

havin seen this now in the actual show I think the nunchaku can be transformed into the kusarigama by -probaby-really pushing a button..it appeared to me that the chain is reeled in in the other wooden piece then together with the little weight.it actually looked really amazing to me;)...
herderp, I noticed this for the very same reason;)...there was also a little new little grunt by leo as he and mike ran toards each other in the beginning...and didn't raphael said NO WORDS in the previous clip when he beat leonardo and walked up to him?I think so...

Another great episode! It was sad however that April's father got taken hostage and couldn't be saved in time, though perhaps maybe Aunt Agatha could show up again since she lives at her aunt's house. Good to see Channel 6 news make an appearance as well. The Stinkweed fight was fun, though it was a bit sad as well that Snake got mutated by the Kraang, in which I'm impressed with their abilities compared to the old Krang. The only thing that I haven't seen yet is a battle catchphrase, and actually Raph called Mike and idiot which would have been too insulting in the OT. The one thing I was disappointed in was the Yoshi/Saki origin story, which lacked detail and didn't seem to surprise most. I do like how Shredder currently has Tokyo as his headquarters, since that indicates that he currently is satisfied with his revenge, but upon seeing the news report, looks to head over to New York soon. Having Saki put his mask on was really cool.

Now the big question are ratings and toy sales, since both are equally important to supporting this series.

Snakeweed was great, I was worried I wouldn't like him. But seeing a villain the Turtles can beat up and use their weapons on is great. The fact he regenerates is kind of cool.

The brief look at Shredder was kind of creepy. Hope we get to see the burn victim underneath the armor better.

All around pretty good so far. Can't wait to see some more.

Well that was just delightful, great first episode we have established all the players very nicely. I really enjoyed the fact that the Krang were the main threat and not the Foot. I admit I shed a tear when Splinter told the story about how he lost Tang and his daughter.

I really really enjoyed the fact that the turtles accidentally created Snakeweed and the fact that they had a new mutant in the first episode, I thought they would wait before doing something along those lines.

I think the best part is that not only do the Turtles feel like brothers, but they also feel like teenagers, they are young and inexperienced and I can not wait to see them grow into the powerful green machine we know they are capable of becoming.

Last note the Raph and Spike scene was very well done, I don't know what about it worked so well me, but it just seemed to perfectly acheive what it was aiming for.

i loved Donnie's big solo action scene with the helicopter, Raph's private time with Spike, April's relationship with her Dad, the Snakeweed fight...and SHREDDER!

I'm still not too hyped for this show. The animation and designs still really bother me, and there's some story related things I'm not a fan of. But... I have to admit that there were some things I liked, such as the humor. I did find myself laughing a couple of times, but most of the time, the jokes were meh (Nothing new to TMNT in that department). Another thing I enjoyed was how new the Turtles were to life. Seems like an interesting concept to see develop throughout the series.

Yoshi thinks his daughter died in the fire, Shredder saves the daughter, raises her as her own. Nick isn't going to do a paternity angle in one of their shows, I don't think. Cause then you're opening up a whole can of worms with that.

Tang shen died in the fire, and Splinter believes his daughter died too, but she is actually alive. Splinter flees to New York because of this, and Shredder finds Miwa and raises her as his own. I'm pretty sure this will happen because of this.

The episode was well written. The comedic timing was perfect and I like how the the Turtles went ape **** when they battled The Kraang. Talk about slice and dice.

I actually want to make today Happy Mutation Day for those who are fans of the new show. It may sound corny but since today it premiered it's kind of in a way the show's birthday and it figured it could be something new for TMNT fans. I posted this in another thread but I'll repeat here -- did you guys see the "Second Time About" antique store in the background during the utrom fight on the street?Don't you mean the Kraang? Also isn't it kind of weird that they all look the same? You would think if they wanted to blend in they would all try to look different.

I really really enjoyed the fact that the turtles accidentally created Snakeweed and the fact that they had a new mutant in the first episode, I thought they would wait before doing something along those lines.Actually he didn't show up until part 2.

Well, the turtle's could easily use their weapons on them since they are just robots and not actual people

It's the best thing about having robots in a cartoon. They can be brutally destroyed, and not get complaints from people

I actually want to make today Happy Mutation Day for those who are fans of the new show. It may sound corny but since today it premiered it's kind of in a way the show's birthday and it figured it could be something new for TMNT fans. Just a suggestion and yes I know I'm weird and no you cannot have a piece of my algae cake

Spread the word, September 29th is now "Happy Mutation Day" on this site.

We need a song for this holiday.

Just started a thread for Happy Mutation Day. If anyone wants to spice it up be my guest. I officially call today: Happy Mutation Day!!!!!

@TurtleTitan97: Oh I totally agree. I am not sure where you have to listen to it, but Rob talks to Ciaro (I apologize if that's not spelling his name correctly) and he said that Casandra Peterson aka Elvira will be voicing a female Kraang in season two. I have a feeling it will be a female human costume with a robot inside just like the male Kraang. Apparently they have sexes lol.

Yoshi thinks his daughter died in the fire, Shredder saves the daughter, raises her as her own. Nick isn't going to do a paternity angle in one of their shows, I don't think. Cause then you're opening up a whole can of worms with that.

I'm pretty sure Splinter is aware that his Daughter is alive. He said that it took the life of Tang Shen and his daughter was lost. I don't think he would have said killed for one and lost for the other if he knew they had both died. Its also supported by his moment when he looked at the photo and said yes you must protect her. Gave off the vibe that he had to flee in order to make sure Miwa lived, because life, even without her father, would be better than death.

Actually he didn't show up until part 2.

Are you really going to split hairs like that. This was a one hour premiere episode. Sure it will be cut up for syndication purposes, but every time they are showing it today and the entire rest of the week it is as the full hour length episode. I'm sorry but unless there are two plays of the theme song I do not consider it to be two separate episodes.

That's not what i meant LOL. it's just Spongebob has been pretty much the only thing that has been keeping nickelodeon alive, and they really need a new, better show to replace it because the episodes have been getting worse. Trust me, a lot of people would probably agree with me.

Why cancel it? Just because you don't like it? What about everyone else who does? Don't be selfish.

I had a blast watching this new show, lots of laughs and content for us die hard fans. Thanks NICK, for not ruining my child hood.

Not to nitpick, but doesn't it seem odd that Raph, Mikey, and Donnie were all kinda 'ehhh' over the usual food of worms and algae, only for Raph's comment later of 'I never thought I'd taste anything better than that' to pop up? Or was it less 'Ugh, this actually tastes nasty' and more 'What, THIS again?'

I'm loving the fighting in their first fight with the Kraang so far, I've never thought about their weapons getting all tangled together before, it's a nice touch to show them as being kind of new to this instead of being masters already.

'...Did you just slap me?'
'I was trying to calm you down.'
'HOW WOULD THAT CALM ME DOWN!'

I'm amazed as to how spot-on the Turtles personalities were. They were all true to their roots while adding new aspects to them, (like Leo wanting to be a hero, Donatello's crush, Mike's sillyness), which is all welcome.

Just finished watching it as well, and overall I think I'm gonna love this show - though that's not much of a surprise really.

The humor and action both seem to be really on par, like everyone else has already said. The comedy really did seem funny instead of just trying too hard, which was nice. And as far as the action goes, I'm surprised by the beating Snakeweed took, it was more than I expected in a way, so that works for me.

All of the characters seem spot on too. I'm having a tough time deciding who I like better between Mikey and Donnie so far; I'm leaning towards Mikey at the moment but Donnie could take the top spot with the him and April thing.

Astin and Biggs are both pretty good as Leo and Raph too, though I could also deal with other people playing the roles if it came to it eventually (though actor inconsistency bugs the hell out of me - I dunno how I'll survive that in the OT when I get it all eventually). I forget his name, but the guy playing Splinter sounds good too. Whitman sounds a lot better as April in-episode than she did in the one clip we'd gotten before, which is nice.

Oh yeah, speaking of April...I'd heard something about some kind of 'twist' that was surprising. Was that just someone trying to spread a rumor during the hype, or did I blink and miss it or something?

Oh, and I'm still not really sure I'm feeling Richardson as Shredder. Don't get me wrong, KMR is an amazing actor, and I'm sure I'll be pleased with where it goes...but it just seems too much of an obvious casting, or something.

The soundtrack is great too. There was this one repeated beat while they were all going to jump on top of the van, I think, that I really liked. I doubt it but I'd love if they released some MP3s of the BGM as well as the opening.

The only major flaw to the show is the CG. Don't get me wrong, I know it's only TV budget CG, but I'm kind of 'eh' on CG anyway. I'm much more of a fan of traditional or digital animation. But, the CG is flowing pretty well, so I think I can get past my initial distaste and just enjoy the show for what it is beyond that - another great take on the Turtles mythos.

Can't wait to see where this goes next!

LOL that might be as kinky as Don x Loli April.

I have no idea why, but this just made me imagine Timon and Pumbaa taking the place of Bebop and Rocksteady.

Bebop: Gee boss. You really should learn to Hakuta Matata.

Rocksteady: Yeah. No worries.

I was 1st grade when the 2003 tmnt toon began. It quickly became a GIGANTIC part of my life. I watched it every saturday morning with my dad. We loved it so much and always looked forward to a new episode every weekend. I am a junior in high school now and i have to say, getting up and watching turtles with him again was an amazing experience. :tgrin:

That's funny, the 2003 show started in MY junior year of high school.

I think I was in 8th grade when it started, depending on what time of year in 03 it started, since I graduated HS in 2007. Too bad I didn't get to watch it much since I didn't have the right channel at the time though. :/

Bebop: Gee boss. You really should learn to Hakuta Matata.

Rocksteady: Yeah. No worries.

I need this in my life. I really do.

Makes ya feel old, doesn't it? I was a senior.

Ya, it does. I was a sophomore in high school when TMNT(2003) debuted and a few months older than the incarnation that made me a fan for life! Seeing different versions at different times in our life has made the franchise unique! I only wish there was something going on between '98-'03. That was a sad time in fandom and I needed it during middle school.

Hell, I'm only 23, and it makes me feel old.

Looking on the guide, the hour-long premiere is playing again on the main Nick in about 30 minutes. But surely I wouldn't be so...so...I don't even know, as to watch it again already, would I?

I'm not saying 23 is actually old, just that sometimes it can feel like it, to me anyway. Heck, we're already in a generation that doesn't know what VHS tapes are. Or casette tapes.

And the mere idea that I may live long enough to hear a kid go 'What's a DVD?' is depressing in of itself.

Hey guys just joined, what a great way to bring back tmnt!! A fantastic blend of both 4kids tmnt and 80s! This is now my favorite cartoon in tv.My only concern is both previous series went 8 seasons but this nick series could be a short run with the money being spent on hollywood voice actors...

I am very very happy to see the turtles back in action! And my friend who came over though it was impressive too. He even says that's it's better than the other series! And that's some thing i might soon agree on.

I usually would like to add both positive and negative things in my reviews, but i frankly can't find anything negative about it! So let's begin.

First for the negative: The algy and worms thing was a bit odd, but it did make sense, they are turtles aren't they?

Oh, and knowing that there's ninja's in NYC just because of a ninja star? Kinda a leap of faith wouldn't you say?

yea, that's all I got for the negative!

On to the positive!

The show seemed to have a mixed feel from both the original toon, 4kids toon, and the mariage comics. It was both funny, but dark, and had a fun fast pace feel to it, but went at a slow enough pace for kids to handle!

That action scenes were epic, and what really surprised me was how the turtles were slicing at snake weed's arm, and what i thought to be blood, was gushing out of it!

Oh and did you see them interigateing snake!?!?! I was for sure Leo or one of the other turtles were going to try to stop Raph! But they supported him!!!!
:tsurpris:

The comedy was top notch, and i love the nod to micky seeing the kraang first! It was sweet!

And I love how they gave leo a role model from a TV show, even though I hate Star Trek, (well, i guess i never watched it, it might actually be good!) I think this is perfect for Leo, and helps me connect to him. Being i'm just like that when it comes to star wars

The Kraang voices are sweet, and their "logic" is very humourus.

Oh, and snake's transformation into snakeweed was sweet! He seem like a serious bad butt dude! And especially how his limbs grow!

And I'm defiantly loving this splinter!
:tlove:

I think how the turtles couldn't fight well besides each other was very humorous!! And it's also a great lesson to the kids out there, that if you can't work together, you get nothing done!

I also think the way the turtles meet, found, and rescued April really fits well! And while Donny's love for April may get a bit, how should i put it, odd. Being that Casey is already April's lover in all the other materials. I think this should be an interesting change, and i'll be paying close attention to her character!

And, and i love how they introduced pizza to the turtles!
:tpizza:

The whole anime thing in the show, actually very good, i thought it would be bothersome, but, I was defiantly wrong!

Oh, and one of my favorite part, would have to be the end! SHREDDER!!!!!!! :tgrin:

needless to say, this is going to be a great show, and I would have to give it,
100 brain things out of 10! :kgrin:

Now if i only had a time machine that could jump a week into the future......

Did anyone notice all the facts they dropped?

- They called it both Mutagen AND Ooze.

- Tang Shen and Miwa were name-dropped

- Shredder is still in Japan as of this episode

Likewise anyone find it weird that even Splinter was eating the algae and worms when he was once human? The Turtles I could understand, but Splinter was human so it seems strange.

Great opening to the series. I'm glad they left most of part 2, particularly the parts with snakeweed and shredder, out of the preview clips. it make it all the more epic

So, some first impressions
* The more I look at the show, the more I think they are actually doing a good job with the look of the human characters' appearance. April and Snake looked pretty good. At first they look kinda mechanical but you quickly get used to it. I try to keep in mind that this is TV quality animation, and they have severe budget limitations. They are doing a good job.
* snakeweed... wow, i'm glad they chose to do a new mutant in the season opener. His mutation was rather graphic. And the way his torso/bottom half split to make legs... and you can see the 'flesh' and his bones there, that's gross! Perfect TMNT flavor, IMO. Glad he will be returning
* shredder's intro was a real tease. Great set-up. Hope we see him soon.
* mutagen looked really cool. When you see it up close it looks really mysterious, with all those things floating around in it. Really makes me wonder how they will pull off the toy version, because it looks way different from the standard green ooze we've seen.
* i dig the 2d flashbacks. i hope they don't overuse that format in the future though
* by far splinter has some of the best quotes! I look forward to them fleshing him out. I want to see more of him WITHOUT his robe. I want to see how they render his full rat body

Best part... the pilot is FINALLY over! While it was great, most of the clips and previews we have seen up until today have been from the pilot. So a huge chunk of the episode did not feel very 'new' to those of us who obsessively watch that stuff.

So all the episodes from here on should feel less familiar

Really like it so far. I loved everything about it except for Splinter's reason for choosing Leo as leader. I felt that was a bit of a cop out, but other than that, I really liked everything else. The fight scenes were awesome as were the characters themselves. I love how they met April and feel that Don's crush on her is cute, though I hope it's not shoved in our faces too much. I also love Splinter's stories and how he feels about the loss of Shen and Miwa, though I think Miwa may still be alive according to that bio we saw.

Some of my fave quotes:

Mikey: Did you just slap me
Leo: I was trying to calm you down.
Mikey: How would that calm me down?

Leo: Why did you make me the leader?
Splinter: You asked first.

Splinter: This is a big decision. I will have to meditate on it. *closes door and opens it a few seconds later* It's Leonardo.

There were others, but I can't remember them all at this moment. I know it'll be on again at eight my time on the West Coast feed, so I might ask my mom if she wants to watch it with me. I'd love to get her take on it.

Overall, an interesting start, and I can't wait for more.

I know people love James Earl Jones, but I disagree that he would make a good Shredder voice. He's rather old now, and his voice isn't asian enough. I'm glad they have a real asian voicing Splinter. I'm still not sold on Shredder's voice. I need to hear more of it. But so far I don't think he sounds Japanese enough.

Implying that James Avery was a good Shredder voice? :p IMO it was not. It's just that people have that sense of nostalgia over his voice, so, that's fine.

I'll never be satisfied until we get a Shredder that SOUNDS authentic Japanese speaking English. That is the way it SHOULD be, period.

Hmm...not saying I agree or disagree with that sentiment (I do love Avery's Shredder quite a bit), but come to think of it, have we ever had an actually Japanese portrayed Shredder? The live action movie counts as far as his appearance goes, but he was overdubbed, so...

Well, there's the OVA I suppose. :P

Very good series premiere. The only issues I had was that SnakeWeed didn't seem too upset about his transformation - if I were in his position, I would be crying and trying as hard as I could to rip the turtles' heads off. Also, I wish they had had the guts to kill SnakeWeed off. He doesn't seem like that interesting of a baddie to be brought back.

Also, did anyone catch the name of Splinter's daughter? I think it started with an "N".

I found the music score somewhat enjoyable, but felt it really lacked a real "oomph" factor that excited you. It all just seemed to fade into the background.

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series was really good, of course it isn't gritty like the Mirage comics or the first movie, but as most who grew up watching the 80s cartoon will surely come to enjoy it and TMNT fans should give this new show a try.

The tone of the series is primarily directed towards kids just like the old show, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it and laughed out loud number of times. The animation and virtual camera movements really works great especially during the fight sequences and helps to showcase the agility of the Turtles. Also I liked some of the little extra animation effects when they show some of the facial emotions including some pop out effects to infuse expression and humour through visuals.

Isn't that a stereotype? I mean I'm Mexican and I don't sound like Speedy Gonzalez or George Lopez.

So why does Shredder have to sound like the typical Asian who speaks English?
