Thinking about buying these bad boys.

Where is the cheapest you've seen them? is there a difference with the figures if you buy them in the 4 set or individually? Are there a lot of fakes? Thanks!
Good question...I don't think anyone has ever created a thread and asked that before.....

Actually, there are like 6 threads created for this. But here is the link to the one I believe is considered most useful:
NECA Bootlegs (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=34780&highlight=bootleg+neca)
At the end of the day, the knockoffs are pretty dang close since it is believed they use the original mold (just different QC standards LOL). So if you are getting them for display purposes it may not matter and you can save quite a bit of money. Obviously for collectability, you'll want the real deal.
Hope this helps! :)

The tube packaged turtles goes or a cheaper penny, but. The bootlegs are among the tube turtles. The tube turtles and the regular 4 pack lacks bases and extra accessories like canister and multiple Shuriken.

i'd troll craigslist first, you could get lucky. post "seeking to buy" ads for a set.
study the bootleg thread closely. you can learn how to spot the bootlegs in person.
if that fails, i'd buy off ebay but NOT from a seller in china and I would NOT buy any turtles in the tube packaging because it greatly increases the chances of them being bootlegs.
if buying loose, you'll know the set is genuine if it includes the tiny turtle figures or extra hands that you see come packaged in the earlier (read: non-tube packaging) versions.
you'll pay at least $100 unless you have astronomical luck. $150 - 200 is not unheard of.
it's not that the bootlegs are terrible, just make sure you don't overpay for them. IMO they are not worth more than about $20ea if they are bootlegs, so try to get the price down a little.
