Just thought as i'm new here i'd give you all a little taste of some of the tmnt fan art I do!

Mikey is traditional ink on paper (he's reading Ultimate Spider-man btw, guess which issue!)

Leo is ink then I put him through the brushes app on my iphone to colour. My character QT is in the background... I dabble in fan fic but i'm soooo not ready to post that.

Thanks Nova! :tgrin: Mikey is just inks actually but I did put a filter over it in a photo app to enhance the sepia tones. I like digital colouring but it's sooo time consuming, takes me a couple of hours to do a piece like the Leo one on the page before.

Thanks Zarius :tgrin: yeah Donnie is deliberately doing nothing. The way I see it he's the busiest of the guys so I wanted to show him having a minute of peace. They're all kinda 'day off' moments. A lot of my art centres around what happens when the action stops.

That's cool. Raph sort of has the "does machines" part in the overall picture anyway, so not much for Don to do in that regard.

Yep Zarius its thicker line work as the base, I usually use a much thinner pen but sometimes I change it up a bit and it works kinda well with the black background.

Thank you, it's part of a set I did but I wasn't happy enough to post the rest. Donnie was Beast aka Hank Mc Coy, Raph was wolverine (the sai were the claws ;) ) and Mikey was Thor. I may re-attempt the others again one day cos it's a cool idea.

Well I did this to go with when Quayla is sat alone reflecting on the loss of her father some years back. I wanted her to look down but she's not really the type to give in and cry. She's usually strong in the face of disaster, I'm not a fan of 'damsels in distress'. She's a student of The Ancient One and that's how she meets Leo and eventually ends up in New York. Hmm, maybe if you make her face/eyes more heavy (not necessarily as if she's crying), but as if she's holding the emotion back and you can sense the burden she's under. Maybe if you add a wistful environment, it would enhance the mood of her pensive thinking. Or maybe her body language; if her shoulders were not pushed back and maybe slouching a bit or her back curved forward a bit rather than straight.

Just some ideas... hope they help... :)

Great minds thinking alike...if it werent for a week or so watching "Angels Take Manhatten", I'd never have written "Lotus and The Sun"

The finished O/C image now has that amplified emotion you were hoping for, the doleful sunset bathes the characters in that slightly melancholy atmosphere. Good work!

The action scene with Lotus and Leonardo is wonderful also! And you said you weren't good at action scenes...;)

As long as you draw those "action lines" (i.e. of a sword being swung), show the intense emotion of the characters in a fight, and the tense body language in arms and/or legs in a fight then the image will transform into a heated, action scene.

Yeah it's just having the confidence to finish an image when it comes to Leo and Q, it's so much harder drawing my own story!

I think I'm just lazy with action scenes sometimes, the sedate scenes are a lot less complex to plan. I re-drew Lotus's leg, shoulders and arms several times before it conveyed the right motion but I did get there. :tgrin:

Bauer, it's each to their own with fanfiction but I found it to be a complex, emotionally charged tale of character growth. Besides, Leo always has the furthest to fall in all walks of TMNT but he learns from it (that's why he's my favourite ;) )

I like the Casey and Rocksteady "after fight" scene on the hockey rink and Leonardo in the "Tender Trap" scene too. It's one thing to have good art skills, but you've elevated that to a higher level in being able to depict ZariusTwo's scenes ("We Are Shadows" and his OT novellas) and Sleepingseeker's scenes spot on and convey the emotion and tone of the stories.

So I cheated with the background, that is a photo I took in New York last year from the roof of our hotel. I really miss NY!
I also tried a different style of colouring and I think it came out ok.

I met my friend's tortoise the other day and he inspired me to do something a little of my usual tmnt art zone. I've started work on a painting, I paint a lot but I've never done a tmnt piece before. Below is the initial sketch and the tiny bit of work I've completed so far, that small part has taken ages! It's acrylic on canvas board. I'm hoping to get some more done tomorrow.

I paint canvases semi-professionally, I sell quite a few but that's my original art which is usually fairytale/white rabbit themed with a dark twist. That's my niche I guess and when I paint it often ends up a little creepy! (Check my deviantart for my other paintings if you want to have a look)
This is my first tmnt canvas as I honestly can't afford the time to do them all this way and keep up with my original work but it was bugging me that I hadn't used my painting skills for my favourite fandom. :)

Well back to digital pieces now, both are done on the iPad in the Brushes app and spoilered for size.
The first is an old piece I did for Easter of Mikey which I re-did in honour of meeting Horny Mike from Counting Cars. My husband and I went to see him at a car show the day after and I took a print out of this to give him but totally chickened out, lol. Yeah..so this is 'Horny Mikey'.

The second is inspired by Zarius's 'We Are Shadows' fanscript which had an amazing flashback scene of how Splinter and the guys came to be and just begged to be illustrated. This is 'Splinter: Awakening'. I may yet add more to the background, not sure.

That second pic is awesome though. Splinter's expression is very intelligent, and love the glow effect of the ooze!
