So I noticed that Splinter seems to be sporting this symbol on most of his gear. From the flashback sequences it looks like the emblem of his clan, which would indicate that maybe he was never a member of the Foot himself, as we've seen in previous versions. Or maybe he left the Foot early on and started his own thing, who knows. It's that symbol on the shuriken that Shredder seems to recognize, which is how he knows it's not just any random group of ninjas prowling around NYC.

Besides looking like a turtle (four feet and a head) it also seems to have five divisions. 4 turtles + 1 rat = 5 in their clan. I'm eager to see some more of the back story here, though. I wonder if there are any more "Turtle Clan" dudes kicking it in Japan still. :D

It kinda looks like 5 silhouettes (head & shoulders) standing in a circle. Maybe it represents, Splinter and his 4 sons.

........ it also looks like pizza. :trazz:

It does kind of look like a pizza, lol.

I think it looks more like a turtle though.

Thanks for the screencaps of Spinter's symbol. This is not on the back of my Splinter action figure.

Oh weird. I didn't get his action figure, just the four turtles. I did think it kind of looked like a pizza too. I'm sure that's no accident. :D

I thought it looked like a turtle when I first saw it.

Someone earlier stated it's supposed to be Hamato Yoshi's family crest, kinda like how the Superman logo is actually Kal-El's family crest.

If it represented Splinter and the turtles, Shredder wouldn't have recognized it...

But that may well have been the inspiration behind the design.

Riiight... which is why it's not an actual turtle. Or pizza. :D

But from a design aspect, it's made to look that way on purpose. Story-wise, it's just a coincidence that the Hamato Family Crest happens to resemble a turtle. Or pizza.

It must've been fate. :twink:

It's his family crest or mon. In japan the crests can be any object. Saki's appears to be a foot while Yoshi's is...uh I think it's supposed to be a flower.

This one is kinda similar:

This is a Bellflower:

you forget that hamato yoshi and oroku saki used to be friends in this version...he knew the symbol...also hamato wore it in the flashback scenes from japan when he and saki started their rivalry...

I don't think you understand his comment.

If the crest was a symbolization of Splinter and the Turtles, that means that Mon would not be in the flashbacks and not known by Shredder at all, since the Oroku vs. Hamato feud was before the turtles was Mutated and even before they where born.

i feel sure that the Nick showrunners purposefully made it look like a turtle, though, what Splinter's family actually intended it to look like is another matter.

hey yea... it does look like a pizza! Haven't thought of that... it looked more like a turtle at first glance. Perhaps yoshi was a member of the foot... but that's just his family crest as some here have stated. Maybe he has a foot clan outfit hanging in his closet somewhere?

I like Splinter's clan design. It does look like a turtle, a flower, and a pizza if you look at it certain ways. But I have a feeling it's his family crest and a very nice one at that.

That was interesting, thanks! My favorite sushi joint around here is actually called Mon Sushi, I had no idea what the "mon" part meant.

Don and Mikey still haven't had flashback sitdowns with Splinter, so we should know what's up within two weeks :tgrin:

I have a feeling that your fave Sushi joint got its name from the Star Wars species Mon Calamari as Mon has many meanings and is not just a Japanese term.
