So this new IDW Limited thing got me thinking. This imprint seems to be all about creating “grail” level collectibles. So, since we are all pretty diverse in our collection tastes, I thought this would be a neat topic…

What would be the “grail”collectible that IDW Limited could create for you?

For me, I think new original art from Kevin and Peter together would be as good as it gets. Like a Ultimate Collection release that came with OA by Kevin AND Peter (not to be confused with Kevin OR Peter). Not to say being able to pull that off would be very easy or likely... I’m just saying that if the sky was the limit, that is what I would want.

I think original art worked on by both of them might be very high at just about everyone's list. Especially since it seems they won't be doing any for a while lol.

If I had to choose something else though... Maybe a Collage type artwork where many different mirage artists, (Jim, Kevin, all those type of people) came together to create some big image. Could be cool

Although I love the comics, I am more of a figures collector. So a portfolio type collection with figures or mini-busts of Duncan's turtles would be right up my alley.

How about a giant box set that would include one copy of each cover of the recurring series (up to current) along with the 8 micros. The full comic for each- not just the cover- and of the original print run. That's a lot of books! And it would be very limited because I'm sure they don't have too many copies of some of those variants floating around still. I'm thinking they arrive in some kind of comic storage box which has wrap around TMNT artwork printed on all sides. Of course, bonus pack in Duncan and Eastman OA would be appreciated!

Archon- Love your idea. Although at this point I would be happy to see ANY new TMNT work from Eastman and Laird together. LOL It wouldn't even have to be OA!

Oh, I'd also love to see a reprint of Gobbledygook 1 & 2 with their original content, since they've never been reprinted.

As an art collector, I have most of what I want, & what I don't, I can otherwise attain, basically. I'd really just like IDW to make merch of their TMNT brand outside of books. Prints, stickers, posters, nothing extreme, just the kinda stuff that can swag up a bedroom or a car trunk, you know? Maybe a limited edition t-shirt/hat package (that comes in big boy sizes on both accounts! :trazz:) or even just a damn keychain, I dunno. I'm into all that kinda stuff. Art-wise I'm fine with just commissioning the guys responsible for the interiors.

But would I want a new E&L piece? Hell f*cking yeah, of course.

Actually, you know what? I'd want them to do a set with "jam" pieces. Several works of art with the main artists collaborating together on each one. A turtle from Duncan, Eastman, Kuhn & Peterson on every piece of paper/bristol. Even just busts or head sketches, marker colored to differentiate the turtles, would be awesome.

Totally love this idea, D.

I love the Gobbledygook idea...would be awesome to see this re-printed in a cool way. Maybe along with the counterfeits as well.

I think it would be awesome to have a "TMNT Comic Book Rarities - A History of the Most Rare" HC book that either reprints or details some of the most rare TMNT books, comics, etc. like Turtlemania, Gobbledygook, etc.

Also, maybe a HC edition of the errors, oversights, and "oddities" that exist in TMNT history. This wouldn't need to be specifically for the books or comics...it could be the shows, too (like when 5 Turtles appear in a frame).

As for me, my passion is the books, comics, trades themselves and the variant printings of each. Anything unique along those lines (especially variant covers, etc.) are up my alley. I've never been very interested in acquiring or collecting original art...although I enjoy seeing it through the collections of others. :D

As I mentioned in a different thread regarding the reprinting of Fugitoid #1, it is possible that IDW/Viacom does not have the rights to reprint the Gobbledygook books. Since they are not TMNT related stories, they may not have been included with the sale and the rights to the stories may still reside with Mirage. That being said, if my theory is true, they could always try to license them if Mirage ever comes out of hibernation.

Don't think I saw your question about Fugitoid in another thread...so I'll address it here. Nickelodeon / Viacom purchased Mirage's rights to the TMNT (while also allowing Mirage to continue publishing a limited number of TMNT books per year if so desired). Conceivably, any TMNT intellectual property owned or licensed by Mirage Studios (Gobbledygook, Fugitoid) would then be fair game for IDW to reprint if they desired. However, anything IDW wants to print has to first go through Nick/Viacom so I'm sure there could be exceptions to that. Especially in the case of certain guest character appearances (e.g., Cerebus) not owned by Mirage. However, Fugitoid (to my knowledge) is all Mirage IP so I can't see why IDW couldn't re-print it if they wanted to.

My thought was that since the Fugitoid was part of the TMNT universe, he's fair game to use as they have been. However, since the comic was stand alone and not TMNT related, the Fugitoid #1 and Gobbledygook stories themselves may not may not have been part of the deal. Pure speculation on my part but it would make sense.

I can see that side of things but they're both Mirage IP...I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I might be remembering this wrong but I'm pretty sure Peter Laird was asked about Fugitoid and the sale on his blog and he said that since Fugitoid was so linked with TMNT he was classed as a TMNT character and therefore belongs to Nick/Viacom, so there shouldn't be any problems reprinting the issue if IDW want to. Gobbledygook I have no idea!

And just to echo everyone else, my grail would be Eastman and Laird art. At the prices the IDW set sold for I doubt I could afford the price such a rare item would bring, but it would be a grail item for sure. Especially a group shot!

Good call on the Eastman and Laird art. man, i'd love to see that happen again and would definitely pick one up. their work together was gold and still is. if it's an idw issue... i'd pick up several even. if it's just a sketch of the 4 Turtles... it would indeed be grail material to me.

All the Gobbledygook (vol. 1) stories besides Fugitoid should belong to Peter, Kevin and Kevin's uncle Quentin (who helped Kevin create the story "Champ"), though I wonder if any non-TMNT material was included in Peter's buyout of the Mirage Group from Kevin.

I'd like to see an oversized hardcover containing the whole Fugitoid micro-series, all the other material from Gobbledygook (vol. 1) #1 and 2, plus as many stories from Gobbledygook (vol. 2) and Grunts as they can get permission from the respective creators for. Maybe throw in Peter's Stupid Heroes and some of Kevin's non-Mirage shorts and one-shots.
