View Full Version : What is one thing about the OT that you don't know that you'd still like to see?

Now that the entire series is onto DVD and now that this forum has contributed pretty much every detail possible and feel that there is nothing more to watch unless for a nostalgic curiosity, many of you feel that you are ready to just leave the OT behind for the generations to come. We've seen episode scripts including some original drafts, we've seen a few storyboards, we've seen most of the voice actors discuss about the series. But there are still a few mysteries with regards to the nature of the original cartoon that I would like to see explained, such as certain animation studios that worked on certain episodes, certain characters in which we still don't know who voiced them, such as Mondo Gecko; a release of the entire soundtrack for this series in which who knows where the tapes to these recordings are, and certain voice actors such as Jennifer Darling, Bill Martin, Hal Rayle, and Bumper Robinson with regards to their work on the show. If that Turtle Documentary ever gets released, we may have some of those mysteries solved.

I'd like to know what the writers were restricted from doing sometimes. The lack of fighting in some episodes over others is notable, as if the complaining parents in the early 90's influenced Fred Wolf to pressure the writers for less violent scenes in the show.
I'd also like to know if David Wise had bigger plans for the show before it became a commercialized success.

I'd like to hear more about April and the Channel 6 News crew and what brought about their creation.
I'd like to see the origin of The Technodrome.
I think being able to read the Show's Bible, if it has one, would be interesting. Especially reading the first drafts and outlines of the 1st season.

I wonder if there was much resistance to having to make Mike dump the nunchucks for the grappling hook. Were there arguments or was it just 'change his weapon? eh, whatever'.

Definitely want to know more about the multiple animation studios that worked on the show. Perhaps even in-house with Fred Wolf studios, would be nice to see them go into more detail about their processes, storyboarding, maybe even drop some names of outstanding animators.

Yeah, I always assumed Krang just fell out of a dimensional portal into Shredder's lap in Japan or something.
And was the Technodrome built on Earth? Or was it built in Dimension X and then moved to Earth?

Same here, I always imagined that Shredder saved Krang (for some reason) because he didn't had a body and in exchange Krang gave him acces to his technology. Besides Krang needed someone who knew about earths culture.
Another thing that bothered me so much was the fact that people from Europe thought that a Nun chuck was more violent than a Sai or a Katana, maybe you guys already know the answer since you have more time in the forums.
IF NOT FOR ME, HAMATO YOSHI WOULD NEVER HAVE LEFT JAPAN. I FOLLOWED HIM TO THIS COUNTRY, WHERE I GAINED MY ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY, INCLUDING MY RARE EXPERIMENTAL MUTAGEN.
I assume that means Krang got banished from Dimension X to NYC Airport's baggage claim. :P

Don't tell me the mighty Krang doesn't remember his greatest weapons engineer. The one who helped you design the Technodrome. The one you betrayed. And did you have to destroy my home world as well?
And, that's how the plot of the proposed Krang vs Predators was supposed to go.

True... but that was all the way til Red Sky... way before the creators even knew if their show was gonna surpass the first 5 episodes. I wonder what their thoughts on how Shredder met Krang and how they created the Technodrome were back then.
And why did England bully them into changing Mike's weapon? It's an AMERICAN cartoon... sure it was shown in England too, but we should have had first priority. It's like Japan suddenly censoring anime (and I mean in Japan itself) because America said so.

Kinda....in an attempt to make the shows work in the European market with out heavy edits, Mikey's chucks were eventually replaced with a grappling hook. It was a kind of self censorship.

The odd episode counts, the characters used such as why of all the one characters did Rat King luck out to show up in the cartoon and were certain ones thrown in because they were toys or made to make a toy of while the forced inclusion of Dregg and Carter fully explained, the development of Chanel Six News. This are some of the most ****** characters from the old cartoon (in my opinion of course)
Pinky McFingers
Barney Stockman
Aunt Aggie
Miyoko Saki (Shredder's mom)
A. J. Howard
Don Turtelli
HiTech
Mr. X
Mung
TechnoGangsters
Tempestra
Turtlenator
Lord Dregg
I wonder what happened to that punk member who turned into a mutant Bat?

You think Shredder's Mom was a bad character? Get out, she was one of the funniest characters of the show.
Tempestra and Lord Dregg were also good characters. Barney Stockman was obviously intended to be a gag and the gansters were cool.
We're talking about ridiculous one-off villains, not even the mad scientists, but those other human villains like that rich guy in the superhero episode, the guy who played with boats, the french guy who owned a wax museum, etc.

You're joking, right? Shredder's Mother was an absolutely hilarious character and let us see the more human side of Shredder. Shredder was always played for comic relief prior so his mother didn't change anything.
The episode itself was also one of the best episodes of the season, the whole plotline of doing to Dimension X and trying to refocus the beams of light between multiple portals was excellent to stop the Earth from crashing into the sun.
And it bothers you that Tempestra came out of a videogame, in a series that was never serious? Wow, I can't understand why people let perfectly fine things bother them.

So that's your opinion I never felt Shredder's mom added anything to the Character but more silliness that he did not need. I know the Turtles was a comedy with some action but it just got worst with time, that’s why the producers tried to save the series with the red sky episodes but it was too late.
Tempestra was just a filler character because they didn’t even bother to explain where did she came from or why she was evil. At least the Rat King was a character from the comics.
By the way aren't you the guy who complains all the time about every detail of the new series? :trolleye:

What the hell are you talking about? The show never needed, "saving," it was always an action/comedy series to begin with. The show was re-tooled toward the end because it was obviously drawing to a close anyway.
Shredder was defeated in Season 2 by the Turtles throwing pizza pies in his face. And you can't accept that he had a mother with the same evil mentality he did? This was never intended to be a plot driven series like other shows.

I don't mind not liking parts of the show, but you seem to be criticizing the show based on what it is. It's like saying a comedy shouldn't be a comedy, or a horror movie shouldn't be about horror.
Also you have to remember the time period in which the show was made. You're comparing it to modern action cartoons, it wasn't made to be like shows are now.
Back in the late 80's and early 90's until Batman:TAS came out, it was pretty much the most action oriented cartoon show on TV at the time.

I like when you guys argue about a long-since-cancelled cartoon show!
Shredder's Mom was one of the silliest episodes. I loved it. It was also completely stupid and would never go over in a less-wacky TMNT cartoon. I couldn't see Shredder's mother showing up in the Mirage Comics.
CyberCubed, it's okay if somebody else doesn't like something you like. That's what makes this world a great big beautiful melting pot.
Personally, I would love to have seen a miniseries bridging the Mirage comics with the OT. Here's the idea I came up with. Start with TMNT #1 which ends with the death of the Shredder. Continue into the Mousers and then the Turtles In Space story.
Meanwhile, on Earth... The Utroms were in the habit of finding dead or dying creatures and try to reanimate them, in an attempt to create organic bodies for themselves to better assimilate into Earth society. They would find the burned-up carcass of the Shredder and put him in one of their stasis tanks. After their building is destroyed, the Shredder's stasis tank would fall into the deep pit underground, which the Utrom building was constructed over... Where Krang the renegade Utrom had been banished, years before, in his depowered Technodrome.
Krang would use what little power remained to revive the Shredder, and demand as repayment that the Shredder help build him his own body, and help re-power the Technodrome fortress. Shredder, homeless, powerless, and his Foot soldier army disbanded, would have little choice. He would bring together whatever gang (the human Rocksteady and Bebop and their cohorts) he could manage, and then would force the insane Baxter Stockman to help him construct robotic Foot soldiers, based on the Mouser technology.
It doesn't all work perfectly but I never sat down and wrote it out. That's just kind of what I came up with as a kid, trying to reconcile the Mirage stuff with the OT. But that's what I'd like to see.

We could have seen them being led by Karai and then Shredder taking them over. What a shame.
Sure, it was. Karai was introduced in the Mirage books a handful of months before Red Sky started. I'm sure Eastman would have been all for it, but I doubt Laird was eager to give FWF another one of their original characters to cheapen.

The episode "State of Shock" could have been a perfect opportunity instead of that Alex Winter/Megavolt, since he had his own Ninja Clan. Here is where I'd replace him with Karai. I would have also had Shredder gain control of a couple of the H.A.V.O.C. mutants (OverDrive and Amok would be my preference) and use them as a replacement for Bebop & Rocksteady, with Titanus replacing the worn-out Krang who gets sent back to Dimension X trying to give the Technodrome a big threat for Turtle Trek.

Write a fanfic about it and publish it on the Internet! (alternate start from season 9) The 1987 show is lacking on fanfiction. And with TMNT fanfiction, I mean real TMNT fanfiction that follows the spirit of the show (with Michelangelo joking and eating pizza, Irma talking of her last date, Shredder saying to Bebop and Rocksteady they are idiots whn they can't defeat the Turtles), not some stupid "fangirl" writing "Donatello and Irma have sex". Such stories belong to the "Sex and the Sewer" sections, not TMNT.
I would love to see a big split. Imagine the Technodrome getting lost, In Japan, Shredder re-creates the Foot Clan, and the gang war breaks out in borth Japan and the USA (maybe use some Lotus Blossom plot). Of course, Kazou Saki would appear as a Tokyo policeman.
Meanwhile in Dimension X, the war between the Neutrinos and the Rock Warrios would continue. This would comine two fantastic TMNT elements; the urban street stories on Earth, and the science fiction elements. Not many stories share both these elements, and it's one of TMNT's greatest strenghts ever.
A third element would be Bebop and Rocksteady re-united with their old gang two. You would have three forms of battle:
*Dimension X intergalactic space battles
*Ancient Japense martial arts/ninjutsu
*20th century US gang wars
