This Is Epic!!!: Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Set to Debut New Float in the 86 th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade ®

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- From their sewer lair to the streets of Manhattan, the world's most famous heroes in a half shell are ready to save the day at the 86th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade®. On Thursday, November 22nd, Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will delight millions of spectators aboard a new float in the Turkey Day procession.

"We are very excited to welcome the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the line-up this year, where a new generation of fans will enjoy their ninja moves and action-packed adventures," said Amy Kule, executive producer of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. "This amazing float will be a dazzling experience for spectators who will have a front row seat for their Thanksgiving Day journey."

"Millions of families around the country will come together for the annual tradition of watching Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and we couldn't be more thrilled to once again partner with Macy's to bring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to life," said Pam Kaufman, chief marketing officer, Nickelodeon Group. "Our new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series has really struck a chord with fans and this spectacular float will offer them an exciting Nickelodeon entertainment experience."

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is based on four mutant turtles—Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo, who have been trained in the art of ninjutsu by their sensei, Splinter. Designed by the artists of Macy's Parade Studio, the new float, unfolding with breathtaking ninja precision, will feature a spectacular dark cityscape including roof tops, fire escapes, window ledges and a zip line down telephone wires.

Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiered on Sept. 29 and was an instant hit, drawing almost 12 million viewers during its premiere weekend. The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series is funnier and "ninja-ier" than ever before. The action comedy explores the camaraderie of four teenage brothers learning to rely on one another as they unravel the mystery of their existence and train to become the heroes they're destined to be. The series airs regularly on Saturdays at 11 a.m. on Nickelodeon.

The 86th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade airs nationwide on NBC-TV, on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 from 9 a.m. - noon in all time zones.

Wow. Awesome. I'm so glad the Turtles are getting recognized. I always watch the parade, but this will make it extra special for me.

frankly with those costumed turtles showing up at baseball games, malls, conventions and pretty much everywhere people are gathering lately I'd be shocked if they weren't there :P

This is SWEET! That means that if the Sonic balloon returns this year, THREE of my favorite franchises of all time are going to be represented! (TMNT, Sonic, and Power Rangers.) This is going to be freaking AWESOME! I can't wait to see what they have planned for the float! :D

A great way for Black Friday weekend promotion of TMNT toys! To me being selected for such an event is a sign of success, as the 4kids Turtles never made it to the parade. Here is a vintage clip from 1991. Just look how simple it is, with just a Neutrino Starcruiser-esque car and only Raph and Don:

I'd love to have April and Splinter join in as well to expose them too!

Neon Trees, singing "Everybody Talks".

Well, the float just passed. They showed it for about, 2 minutes maybe? They had a stupid lip synced song too...why not the TMNT theme? Oh well, it was still awesome!

11-22-2012, 09:10 AM
It was nice seeing this float, but I agree that they should have played the theme rather than just showing the Turtles passing, plus CBS didn't even show the Turtles! Next year, I want to see Shredder, the Foot, Splinter, and April. But its still nice seeing that the Turtles are back in the parade after 21 years.

Saw it a while ago. Yeah, most of the focus was on the singer with occasional shots of the Turtles waving. I agree, they should have just played the theme song. This new version, I believe, would have been good enough for the parade.

I'll admit they could've picked a way better musical performer for that float. I was super hyped this morning, but after that short clip, I felt a little let down. Hell, the Power Rangers had a better musical number!

What in Splinter's name was that thing singing on their float? Couldn't they at least get someone doing the theme song or something about pizza? Bah.

I wasn't disappointed by the float or Neon Trees performing. I like them and thought they were a good choice. Float looked awesome, and I'm just glad the Turtles got to be in the parade this year and be represented. That'll be good exposure for the show.

I feel the 2K3 TMNT will always be the forgotten ones, with the exception of Turtles Forever. Between the 80's show and the new Nick version, the 2K3 TMNT are the forgotten stepchild. How many casual fans act like this new show is the TMNT's big comeback, completely ignoring the show we had just a year ago?

One of the things I noticed most was that in the 2007 movie, NOONE knew who Karai was despite her being a major character in the 2K3 series at the time. And by noone I mean the average joe going to see a movie, not the Technodromers obviously.

I liked the float overall, although I kind of wish they had better close-up shots of it to see some of the details/interactions going on.

I saw a clip of it online (I had to work on Thanksgiving so I missed the actual parade). It's pretty cool. Looks like the costumes that were used in the promo of the new show, as shown in the Gangnam Style (parody) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AweG_pqlz_g
