Super last minute, but seems worth posting here (and forgive me if it already has been posted elsewhere)...
Peter Laird is the featured guest at the Paint & Pixel Festival http://paintandpixelfestival.com/ - a fledgling comic con of sorts in Northampton, Massachusetts (home of the Turtles!). According to his blog he probably won't be bringing any TMNT stuff, but will be selling some other prints of his artwork, and will do signings.
Plus, Jim Lawson will be there too!
The fest is TOMORROW, Saturday the 20th, from 10am to 6pm. Let me know if anyone else from the drome will be in attendance, it would be cool to meet some other turtleheads in my neck of the woods. I'll be wearing the Usagi shirt. :tsmile:

He appeared last year at the last minute. Too bad onlya select few are within driving distance! Its three years this week that he shocked the TMNT world and sold the intelletual property of Ninja Turtles to Viacom. I had hoped to see him do more work that was not TMNT related by now comic book wise or collaborate with his wife Jeanine.

I think Peter Laird sold the TMNT in part because he was burnt out. From posts on his blog, drawing doesn't bring him the enjoyment it did years ago. I don't see him doing much of anything else in the way of projects (comics or otherwise), though I'd love to be proven wrong!

Its like the passion for drawing has been replaced with being a nature photographer. I tried to encourage him to sell some to magazines. The photos are that good! Who would have thought Peter Laird and former pitcher Randy Johnson would have second careers as photographers?:teek: Atleast Peter has a passino for something still I had just hoped the burn out was turtle-centeric not all out drawing.

I was there. I managed to meet up with and talk to Michelle Ivey outside the con's doors, and got to ask Peter and Jim some questions, got my stuff signed by them, and even took some pictures with them. I also chatted with Jack Purcell, who tought a class a character design I attended last year at RISD. He pointed me in the direction of a fellow alumni of that class whom I then in turn said hello to.

Peter usually does, $20 for that type. I asked him to just sign the Turtlemania, but he did that and did not charge me. Jim does not charge as much as his commissions on his site, although I feel that even those prices are worth it. I just asked for a quick sketch of a turtle and he told me to come back later and when I did, this is what I had....pretty awesome.

Wow that was awesome of Jim! And I agree, even jim's commissions are very attractivly priced.

Nice sketches Redrum, now I'm inspired to share!
I love little conventions like this where you can actually get some facetime with people without waiting in long lines. I got there right when the doors opened since I had to leave town at noon. Peter was super nice and gave me a rare treat for free since no one else was there yet: a Fugitoid head sketch for the backboard of my Fugitoid #1! [see attached]
Jim was a pleasure and finished off the little impromptu turtle "sketch-book" I started at NYCC last weekend. I asked for a Mikey head sketch and he gave a me whole turtle, what a guy! Here's the full set of sketches attached, including the ones from NYCC. I made my rounds to every turtle artist I could find while there, and got every turtle represented with Jim's help yesterday!
- Leo by Michael Dooney
- Mike by Jim Lawson
- Raph by Ross Campbell
- Don by Dario Brizuela
- generic turtles by David Petersen and Erik Larsen (Erik described it as "your favorite turtle!" :trazz:)

Awesome stuff!! I am hoping to expand my blank cover sketches at the Boston Comic Con next year. This little show was the first real comic show I have ever been too. I remember going to sportscard shows as a kid, but never for comics. Luckily I had some friends at UMass Amherst I was visiting or else I probably wouldn't have made the drive out.
Did anyone else go?

I wish I hadn't already had plans to go up this coming weekend or I probably would have made the trip up, that and my friends in the area were all back home for weddings.
I'm glad you were able to make it up there though and you got an awesome haul of drawings... and it seems like you had a really good time as well.
