I love the TMNT but boy oh boy, these issues were horrible. Can anyone please tell me of any redeeming quality that these issues provide.

Mark Martin's work isn't for everybody, but I enjoyed it a lot.

I always thought those issues were hilarious.

I actually liked #16, it was #22 and 23 that were poor follow-ups.

I guess I just do not understand how they fit in with the TMNT?! I tried to like them but I couldn't. The only thing I found redeemable was in issue 23 where we get to see the turtles as real turtles again in their bowl. That was neat at least. I guess not all the issues were meant to resinate with everyone.

Ahh the "Guest Artists" issues of the Mirage comics, the "Fred Wolf's European Vacation" of Mirage Books. :P

Ugh, I'm so tired of complaints about these issues. Dislike 22 & 23 if you must, but 16 is awesome.

I like Mark Martin's stuff. It actually begins to make more sense to me the more I read it. The artwork is pretty epic too. There are so many little fun details he sneak into every page and panel.

They're kinda okay I guess. The only thing that stuck out to me was the shortening of Leonardo to Leon.....

I can handle that better than the Mickey or Ralph we normally get.

Maybe I am biased because 16 is how I discovered the Mirage series, but I loved it as a kid. I read it over and over again, and it's probably in fair to poor condition now.

Not big on #22 and #23, if only because I feel the humor wasn't as on/charming, and it really just wasn't material that benefited from having multiple issues.
#16 though, I have to disagree on. #16 is awesome. One-hundred percent with Rose on this. Legitimately funny, totally charming, just the right amount of surreal, and a great recursive ending. One of the better one-off issues in early Mirage.

The only ones I didn't like of Mirage vol. 1 were 38, 39, and 40. Which is weird because the same team did 34 and I liked that one.

To each his own I guess, I can't think of any of the TMNT comics that I despise, there are certainly issues that maybe aren't as enjoyable as others, but over the years the Turtles have been taken in a number of different directions with different tones, all have their place and seem to capture some part of the turtles original essence in one way or another. I love #16, and while #22 & 23 might not be 2 of my favorites, I still think they're pretty decent & enjoyable reads.

no way... These issues had a certain charm when i read them. Theyre just not my favorites. Not too crazy about the story but i still like the art. Not to mention... 16 has a wicked cover.

Just curious but does anyone else consider #16 part of Mirage canon, but not issues #22 and 23?

As much as I enjoy #16 and it fits in with the we time travel and whatever aspect of the Mirage TMNT, because its directly tied into #22 (seriously a purple bandana on the cover seriously?) and #23 I am unable to feel as if it is part of the canon. Which sucks because lets be honest #16 is a very well crafted story.

The girl looks Manga influenced, #22 had those weird robots that invaded the TV store, and #23 even has a pizza reference. But since these plots revolve around aliens, its not for everyone, though these issues are nice comedic breaks from the serious tone of much of the series. Its done in a very Silver Age style.

I'm a massive fan of these issues. The art is amazing, and the story is off the wall, totally dig it.

I think the new TPB of these issues is why more people are seeing them now than before....I can imagine casual readers being turned off by this.

Judging from these comments I may have to try reading 16 on its own. I've only ever read them as a trilogy in Collected Book 5 and remember hating them. The IDW collection is sat on my shelf but I haven't been able to bring myself to read it yet.
And yeah, totally non-canon in my opinion.

i love mark martin's art and his stories. while they are a bit off the wall as compared to the rest of tmnt, they are intriguing. he has so much print in his issues that they are on the verge of being a friggin novella, but they are still good though.
