Is it me or does she seem...for lack of better word stuck up towards Donny ?

CyberCubed
11-02-2012, 08:28 PM
She seems to be aware that Don has a crush on her. But rather than either reject him outright or make fun of him, she's just trying to brush it off.

Honestly, how would YOU feel if a creepy mutant Turtle wanted to get together with you while you were worrying about your kidnapped father?

Perhaps I should've explained my little in-joke better. I wasn't picking on CyberCubed, I was pointing out the humerous irony of how a lot of nutty fangirls out there would kill to be in April's position.

I wasn't referring to anyone in particular... though I was tempted to give an example earlier. Besides, I didn't mean any offense. Some of my closest friends in the fandom are fangirls.

I sense a love triangle coming up.

That is, if Casey is supposed to be around a similar age to them (not sure).

Casey will be 18.

It'll be interesting 'cause April will be underaged while Casey won't be.

I can see why she'd be weirded out by the whole thing. After all he's not exactly human. For the most part she's being very kind to Donny.

Btw, I gotta comment, I wonder where they got the whole Donny/April idea from...(these are fanarts, not mine mind you):

2k3 series...April and Donny both "brains"
http://raphaella.deviantart.com/art/The-Brains-Colored-12159610?q=favby%3Alisardo%2F10068934&qo=376

Then we have the new 2k12 series, where they copied pretty much the same idea...hmmm

I don't think she's stuck up, but she knows that a relationship of the romantic variety won't work. I think she's trying to give subtle hints, but Don's not getting them yet. I think eventually she'll have to turn him down more forcefully, and I think she's reluctant to really do that.

I thought his crush would be a little more subtle and not he's all over her all the time, thought it'd be a few gags and that's it. Doesn't bother me a lot so far though.

As far as previous incarnations I actually saw a Donnie/April thing years ago, maybe not intentional but yeah in the OT, 2k3 and even TMNTII on the NES has a few scenes that made me like the pairing.

Pretty spot-on, CyberCubed.

The timing is creepy more than anything. I do think the crush is a little overdone and serious. I don't see why April couldn't be attracted to Don if Don is attracted to her (since the Turtles are emotionally and intellectually the same as humans), but I'd prefer that neither was attracted to either.

Right, but why would a Turtle be attracted to April? Humans must look just as weird to the Turtles.

As someone who has grown up on Science Fiction in particular Star Trek I can't help but chuckle at posts like this.

People can be attracted to all manner of different looking "people" one of my favorite Trek races are the Cardassians which are a reptile humanoid species that have neck ridges and scales. Yet after a while you stop kind of realizing how different they look and instead tend to focus on what amazing beings they are :twink:

No, it didn't. Donnie has a crush, and I'm sure that's as far as it'll ever go. Kids wouldn't read more into it than that, and certainly not as much as the deviants on the internet.

Right, well I didn't say anything about having sex with the Turtles, for one. I said the crush was a bit overdone but I didn't see why Don having a crush on April made any less sense than her returning his feelings. I'd rather not see any of it frankly, but I don't think that it's inconceivable, in this show's world, for a human to like a turtle if a turtle likes a human.

I personally never saw a Donny/April thing in the Fred Wolf series. Don't think she was that close with any of them, maybe Leo since he was more mature (and rescued her the most), but even that's debatable. The first time I saw the Donny/April thing was in the 4K series, and it definitely was hinted upon. As others have said tho, I'm a bit surprized he's doing more than 'hinting' in the Nick series. I almost view it as a Beauty and the Beast thing, where he never really thinks he'll be with her, but still finds joy being around her.

It seems like we'll have a more equal distribution of kidnappings the way that April has good self-defense skills (Martial arts basically teaches this). I would like her to take off her ponytail in an episode and have a different outfit much like we had in earlier series. Her voice is fine, being a little higher than any other version. Also check out "the 2012 April" thread for more discussion.

I like that April is slowly but steadily getting her own personality.

Also notice that most of her exchanges are with Donnie. Cute!

I disagree, I think them becoming an item would be a great aspect to this series. The tone would fit.

In this ep, anyone else notice that she's starting to...well, I wouldn't call it 'flirting back', but...warm up a tiny bit?

discouraged as I am from reading this, Ciro Neil's concept sketches has a lot of April interacting with the turtles as if they were normal fellow tween/teens.

I wouldn't even mind a weird love triangle if casey gets introduced, as long as the possibility keeps getting teased (and thus discussed, it's fascinating).

I don't think it should. As shown in the episodes, it's obvious that April isn't interested in Donnie, and only sees him as a friend.

I think the writers are keeping it as justa crush, kinda a Louis and Clark thing, I don't think it'l ever get serious, its target mainly to kids, most likely April will find a boy she likes and they'l play an episode out of Donnatello being jelouse, then realizing they can only be friends, yah we've seen it before lol

Poor example. Lois and Clark ended up falling in love and getting married in the comics (even though it's been retconned as of 2011, the point still stands)

It's a perfect example. The writers just needed a new idea seventy years later so they had 'em marry.

You're forgetting Earth-2 Lois and Clark (aka the Golden Age ones) got married before the modern day ones, so it's still a poor example. Fact. Clark crushed on Lois and Lois recipricated his feelings eventually. This obviously won't happen with April and Donny.

I personally never saw a Donny/April thing in the Fred Wolf series..

Correct. If anything, April was always getting her tail saved by either Leo or Mike in that show.

Difference in body mass, weight and shape could certainly make him much more clumsy and sloppy. I assume losing his shell would completely change is usually center of balance and he would actually need to retrain himself how to move correctly??

That's really the only logical explanation I can come up with. I only kind of remember this episode in the old toon so I don't recall how bad Mikey's fighting is when he changes.

I still dunno why people get so hung up on the April/Donnie thing. It's clear that it's going to be nothing but a joke, and even if it wasn't, it would never go any further than showing them kiss or something (though even that would be unlikely, even if Avatar has shown some kissing).

And I kind of agree with the comparisons of it to Star Trek or lots of other titles that have human/unhuman relationships. It's hardly new ground.

I dunno about other folks, but the reason it's such a buzzkill for me (aside from being totally creepy), is that it makes it so that's what Don's all about. His main personality quirk is his love of machines, science and knowledge in general. Now that's second as his crush on April is what new watchers will identify him with first and foremost, which pretty much ruins his entire image and turns into some drooling fanboy nerd.

I guess it's entirely possible that Donny's mind has actually been... uh... stimulated by his crush. I don't think he was motivated to build uber-cool stuff like the T-Pod, T-Phone, and Metalhead before he laid eyes on April. So... maybe his testosterone is actually an asset to his techno-skill development.

Possibly, and maybe some people prefer to see it that way. Personally, totally not my cup of tea. That version of it pretty much makes him WAY too dependent on her for his development, instead of the capable and intelligent ninja he's always naturally been. His lacking fighting skills in this show is already having him come in last compared to his brothers, and figuring that his only motivation to expand his knowledge is because of April just makes him seem that much more pathetic.

Besides, he built the T-Pod and T-Phone purely for his brothers' and his own sake, so I doubt April really played a part in it. He only asked for her number after the fact that he'd built the T-Phone and as Raph even mentioned, it's not like he didn't really have access to it in the first place. As for Metalhead, sure, he was stoked it made him look cooler, but he built it more for the sake of his own frustration with his bo and how little he was helping his brothers, not because he looked lame in front of April (since she wasn't even there for the fight anyway).

Anyway, just all my opinion as a fan of Donnie who loathes this stupid crush and can't seem to shut up about it. :)

Hmm...I hadn't thought about it, but they are playing up the April thing more than they are his intelligence. Not by a lot, IMO, but by enough of a gap that I do hope they even it out more as the show goes on.

I still don't really find it that creepy myself, but eh, everyone's open to your opinion, and you make your stance well. It's just the people who declare they don't like it without much backup that gets kind of old. You don't have that problem though:D

Personally, I'm really happy that the show took this direction and gave this crush factor to Donnie, it opens him up and gives him an entirely more rounded out personality. As the "guy who fixes stuff" Donny was easily the biggest non-character of the group and this adds a nice/new dimension to him that wasn't always there. It's going to be kind of a bummer when KC shows up. lol

I really like April being a teenager. It removes the constant thing that bugs me with OT and 2K3.

Adding a fifth (teenage) character and clumsily attempted to make a five man band. They did this with Zack, Carter, Venus, Cody, etc.

The characters who didn't annoy me was Ninjara in Archie and Keno in Secret of the Ooze.

April gets to hang out with the guys more, is a human/teenage/girl surrogate for the fans and removes the need to make OCs. Donnie having a crush on her is interesting in 2K3, so I'm pretty much ok seeing him clumsily going about in the new show.
