View Full Version : Who's dying for another Tournament Fighters?

Sure the new games have a VS mode built in, but that's nowhere close to what a true fighting game experience is. Thus I suggest Konami creates a long overdue sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters. A game which spanned three volumes on three different systems (sadly not on Gameboy). A 2D one much like the first for GBA and a 3D one for Gamecube (maybe something along the lines of Soul Calibur). I'd make it Gamecube exclusive because the first games came out on NES, SNES, and the Genesis. Dreamcast is long dead so that means for the series to continue "properly" (but I doubt it would, greedy Sony) then it should ONLY be released on Gamecube and GBA because the original was on two Nintendo systems. Any way below is a list of characters I'd include.

- Leonardo
- Donatello
- Raphael
- Michaelangelo
- Casey Jones
- April O'Neil (yes she fought in the Genesis one)
- Ray Fillet
- Armagedon
- Syphlas (or whatever the spider/beetle guy was named)
- Chrome Dome
- War
- Wing Nut
- Tatsu or Hun
- Leatherhead (new)
- Aska (previously exclusive to the SNES game, she'd probably look like a DOA girl in this game)
- Shredder

Secret Characters:
- Hot Head
- Lady Shredder (new) - from the IMAGE comics
- Karai
- Rat King
- Fugitoid (new) - just for fun
- Splinter (new)

The GBA game would have a smaller roster...

- Leo
- Raph
- Mike
- Don
- Casey
- Aska
- Chrome Dome
- Ray Fillet
- Leatherhead
- Shredder

Secret Characters:
- Hot Head
- Karai
- Rat King
- Fugitoid

Because most of the characters are from the comics they could tie it into the new series or the original comics. Giving it a more gritty feel. I'd keep the signature moves of each of the older characters and give the new ones moves to compliment those.

The only Tournament Fighters I was ever fortunate enough to play was the one for the SNES and I still enjoy that one. An all around good fighting game that beats the pants off of a lot of other 2D fighters I've seen in recent years. I love how they included the special moves from the Manhatten Project as special attacks in the game.

Sadly, my Genesis broke so I'll never get to play that version and the NES version is pretty impossible to find (I'd love to play it, however).

Which version had Casey Jones? He's who I REALLY wanted to play as (though I made due with Leo and did just fine with him).

Casey was in both the Genesis and NES versions of the game. I really have no idea why he wasn't in the SNES one. Ah well...

I have both the NES and SNES versions. I'm currently trying to track down the Genesis one. You know if you are desperate to play it there are always emulators.

Wish I could but my computer can't handle emulators. Besides, I protest them. I prefer to play old-school NES games the way they were meant to be played...on my NES.

There's alway, eBay, however...

As much as i'd love a new tournament fighters game, i'd probably be satisfied with the new tmnt game coming out already because it's a beat em up game and i love those.
tmnt + beat em up + cell shading = possibly one of the best games i'll play in my whole life :P
Seriously, it's got pretty much all i want in a game.
But yeah...i'd love it if they did another tournament fighter..even tho they did 3 different ones so you can't complain there ;)

I prefer to play the real deal as well, but for import games and games that I can't get I'll settle for emulators. Their is actually a M.U.G.E.N. version of the Genesis TMNT: Tournament Fighters if you can use M.U.G.E.N. It's pretty good, but not quite the same as playing on the Genesis. You'd get to use Casey though.

You're right about that 3 versions means that I should have NO complaints whatsoever, but a sequel to those games would be fantastic! There's yet to have been a portable one though so I'd say there should at least be that.

Yeah i know what you mean, a sequel got it's good features too, like better graphics and soundtrack for example...i'm just glad we're getting a new game, not to mention a beat em up one :D specially because i was expecting a tomb-raider-ish one so this totally roxxors mah boxxors :P
I'd love a new TMNTTF game tho, even if it's in 3d.

Ill give the new one a chance, but i doubt it will be any good. I didnt like any of the turtle games except the first one for nintendo. Now that was an awsum game, but then they went down hill once they became a beat 'em up game. I wish the new one WOULD be more like the tomb raider game.

Uhh, DUDE......... I dont know where you got that from.......
It is NINJITSU... The Art of Stealth... a term used to describe all the arts taught to a ninja including armed/unarmed combat, camouflage, and espionage. The word 'ninja' is debated because the definition describes the employed "mercenaries" trained in stealth and matial arts, and were often viewed as spies, saboteurs, and assassins... when some have countered the debate to state they are actually samurai warriors who need to cover thier faces to take such drastic action and hide who they really were.
Whatever the derivation... the word 'ninja' has become a word that instills fear an an appriciation for thier talent.

No0o! The evil heretic has come to own us all

Damn skippy.

Uhh, DUDE......... I dont know where you got that from.......

From authentic references (read: primary sources) within the historical ninja trradition itself.

It is NINJITSU...

No, its not. The romanization "jitsu" is NOT a reference for the Japanese kaji for 'art' or 'technique'. "Jitsu" can mean either 'fruit' or 'truth' but not 'art'. The proper romanization is "jutsu". The only people that spell Japanese martial arts with a "jitsu" are ethnocentric North Americans with a complete ignorance of the Japanese language and culture.

The Art of Stealth...

Actually, a more proper transliteration is the art of perseverence or endurance.

a term used to describe all the arts taught to a ninja including armed/unarmed combat, camouflage, and espionage.

That depends on the context the word is used in.

Traditionally, 'ninjutsu' could have two primary contexts. On the one hand it could refer to the collective martial arts ryuha studied by the ninja (such as the case of 'Iga-ryu Ninjutsu') as you implied before. Yet, 'ninjutsu' could equally refer to specific martial arts ryu that emphasized the arts of 'stealing in' (such as in the case of Togakure-ryu Ninjutsu), and as such was not the only art studied by the ninja.

Either of these contexts is more or less equally true.

The word 'ninja' is debated because the definition describes the employed "mercenaries" trained in stealth and matial arts, and were often viewed as spies, saboteurs, and assassins...

The word 'ninja' is often debated, but not for any of the reasons you cited. And, the ninja were not mercenaries in the first place, as financial gain was not their primary motivation.

when some have countered the debate to state they are actually samurai warriors who need to cover thier faces to take such drastic action and hide who they really were.

While it is true that many of the major ninja ryuha (not all of which were 'ninjutsu' per se) have samurai origins (such as Togakure-ryu Ninjutsu, Gyokko-ryu Shitojutsu, Shinden Fudo-ryu Dakentaijutsu, Kukishinden-ryu Happo Hikenjutsu, and Iga-ryu Ninpo on the whole), that whole 'hiding their faces' thing is complete bull. The hoded mask usually shown in the movies was historically never used by the ninja.

Whatever the derivation... the word 'ninja' has become a word that instills fear an an appriciation for thier talent.

Maybe 500 years ago in Japan, but not today. Nowadays, 'ninja' are seen as something of a joke (due in large part to individuals like you that think they know anything about the subject). Hollywood has left its mark.

In all sincerety, I suggest you do your homework before making ******** claims on this subject. I am actually something of a knowledgeable source on the subject (I know my resources) and I can tell you that you are WAY OFF from the truth on the matter.

Oohhh boy. You don't wanna debate heretic on this.

Ditto.

Actually you both are wrong. It's called ninjotsu.

This may suprise a narcissist such as yourself, Tokka, but the romanizations 'jitsu' and 'jutsu' actually refer to two different kanji. They are, literally, different words with different meanings. 'Jutsu' means art. 'Jitsu' means fruit.

Those aren't the only meanings the words. Jutsu can mean practical art OR science. Jitsu can mean true, real, fruit, or berry. Anyone with any common sense knows that Dr. Hatsumi changed the word ninjutsu to Budo taijutsu, because that is what it is. Sheesh, people.....

Heh... you can't say "ninjitsu"... err, "ninjutsu" without Heretic hearing you.

I repeat: damn skippy! :D

In all seriousness, though, the reason I emphasize the semantics is because 'jutsu' and 'jitsu' are two different words with two different meanings, even though they are somewhat phonetically similar. It would be like if someone speaking Japanese began interchanging the word 'America' for 'towel'.

Uh oh! Azure said "itsu"! Run away before Heretic dishes out a batch of shuriken on us!! (God help me if I spelled that wrong)

Anyone with any common sense knows that Dr. Hatsumi changed the word ninjutsu to Budo taijutsu, because that is what it is.

Please don't make claims about subject matter you know practically nothing about. Most of the ryuha of the Bujinkan have 'ninja roots' to varying degrees.

If this was the Lords of Pain message board, about this time is where someone says:

Is there an echo: damn skippy.

Oh, and PM me about the Ninja clans that have Samurai origins. I love it when different Martial Arts traditions tie together!

Just ask me a specific question, and I will answer to the best of my ability.... really, though, most of the 'samurai origins' of the ninja ryuha come from the fact that many of the 'founders' of the lineages (such as Togakure Daisuke and Izumo Kanja Yoshiteru) were defeated samurai forced into Iga. Although some of them were very respected samurai (both Iga Heinabe Yashukiyo and Tozawa Hakuunsai were vassals under the Minamoto family, as was Hattori Hanzo to the Tokugawa) that still held their official titles.

Everybody geeks for something. And no, it doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. It's all relative. For example, to someone who listens to 50-Cent, you might be considered a geek because you play videogames and listen to Nirvana. Meanwhile, you may think they're "geeky" for buying FuBu clothes and listening to overpaid rappers mumble about how many caps they've popped in people. It's all about perspective.

Me... I'm a wrestling, comic book, music, video game, TMNT and 80s geek... so I'm quite possibly the biggest geek out of all of you... which is a good thing, because when you're THAT much of a geek, it all turns around and you become insanely cool in spite of yourself.

*sigh* I know I'll probably regret getting into this again, but....

LOL, speaking facts...kittie, tell me what makes his statements facts and mine opinions.

It's very simple, Tokka. I am a ninja/ninjutsu enthusiast. I study the art, I try and learn as much about the history of the people and their art as I can, I am attentive to the writings of the grandmaster ('soke' in Japanese) and the sempai of the tradition, I have a rudimentary understanding of the Japanese language and culture as a whole, and I am sincerely interested in trying to comprehend the philosophy of Ninpo.

You, however, show very little knowledge about ANYTHING genuine or authentic concerning the ninja (historically, more accurately known as Iga-no-mono or Iga-no-bushi) and their traditions. And, yet, you still can't help but make authoriatian claims about the art which are completely unsubstantiated.

If you actually want to learn about the art, Tokka, I suggest hanging around www.e-budo.com or www.kutaki.org for a while. Or, better yet, purchase a publication written by Hatsumi-soke. Or, even better, walk into a dojo and learn the art firsthand.

Third, NO ONE, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, was complaining as much as you were about this thread that you weren't even involved with to begin with! I didn't see any mods come over here and say stop arguing or whatever they wish to call it...YOU DID. And yes, this place is supposed to be fun, though there are some that try to complain about any single disagreement on this forum.
Um excuse me but both Leo and myself have commented many times on that attitude of your so GK is obviously not the only one complaining!

And last, I don't like to be considered "owned", as my great grandparents were in fact owned, and I mean that literally.
well than we won't use that term in front of your Great grandparents. You however are a different story.

I am talking about in this thread, not on the board, Tetsu...

And kittie, I don't single you out, I don't know one person on this board I haven't disagreed with yet. Whatever, you can call what I say crap, as you always do. And stop trying to be a mod. Whenever there is an argument it has to do with either you, leo, or testu, because you guys hawk me all over this site trying to see if I had disagreed with anyone yet, (and if I had, you'd start mass posting all these "shut up Tokka" posts and "don't argue" posts)... if anyone should be punished, it should be you. Being called Pwn3ed or whatever isn't going to change the meaning, you wouldn't like it if your ancestry were forced to do slave labor, so don't go telling me I shouldn't take it so bad, CAUSE IT IS! :x

GK and I each have Native American roots. You guys were enslaved, we were genecided!! But we're all current generation, so we never experienced our ancester's hardships. So let's stop pretending we did!

I love you Tokka. You make waking up in the morning worth it.
But I have a question... what makes you think my Ancestors WEREN'T slaves? And what does that even have to do with anything we are talking about? And actually, I don't ahem.. "hawk" you all over this board untill you say something to me, or something I just disagree with, but you always turn it in to a flame war. Seriously, grow up and get over it.

Yeah... I mean c'mon, my ancestors were Polish on my father's side... that's just about as bad as it gets. And my other half is Irish. I mean WHO could forget the great Potato Famine of 1785? We all have it tough. Except those damn Canadians.

I don't single you out, Tokka, except when you go out of your way to call me stupid, or say things like you wish I was dead. Otherwise you don't bother me, except that I've seen you do it to a lot of people and I just don't think it's necessary, that's all.

And for the record... NO, I don't want to see another Tournament Fighters, because that game kicks my ass most thoroughly. I suck at fighting games. :(

Tokka, we don't single you out, and of course you're allowed to disagree. But, do you always have to be so arrogant and rude about it? That's what we have a problem with, just be more polite. Anyway, we don't look for you either, you just tend to find us.

And, about all your "You're not Mods" comment, just think of us as vigilantes, like Casey!

You and kittie should feel ashamed, you assimilated into the American culture that your ancestors fought so hard not to be forced into...there are those still fighting for their land back...but I won't get involved, this should be your situation. I wouldn't think anyone who types owned every other post would be the one that had owned ancestors... And you might want to get your attitude settled, one post you are yelling at me with rage, the next you are laughing and loving me...

Tetsu: See, the thing is, my great-grandfather died only a few years before I was born, so it actually effects me... imagine being called a terrorist or carpet seller in public. And what is so arrogant about how I disagree?

Leo: You demonstrate clearly how the Candians are constantly oppressed. Nowadays it is rare to find Americans who cannot help crack a joke against the Canadians or French. And I never said anyone singles me out, in fact you are the ones saying I single you out....imagine..

Actually, I'm planning on volunteering for the Red Feather this summer which helps improve the living conditions on reservations. and besides both GK and myself are more assimilated into Japanese culture which had little to no contact with our ancesters hence neither helped nor harmed them. (Actually, we're not assimilated into ANY culture. We don't "assimilate"!)

And, the change in tone is because we don't hate you but we're mad that you always have to put down everybody!

Well, look at the Pandora's Box I've opened here.....

By the way, oppressed Canadians?? That's a joke, right??

Tokka-B
06-11-2003, 03:21 PM
I don't think they've ever been physically oppressed heretic, you are right. But by the amount of anti-Canadien sentiment here and jokes against them, I would say they have been "verbally-oppressed"

Tetsu, you should try and get them OUT of reservations rather...it just makes more sense..

Tetsu, you should try and get them OUT of reservations rather...it just makes more sense.. Agreed, but right now there's nothing I can do about that. So, I'm just doing what I can. If you know of any organizations/groups whatever working to free them from the reservations, let me know.

You probably missed it, since it was in another thread, but I explained WHY I make fun of Canada a lot. Basically it's because I like Canada but find there a lot of stuff to poke good-natured fun at. And I know for a fact that Canadians do the same thing regarding Americans, and they don't (usually) mean it. Nobody's trying to start a ar between the US and Canada or anything. Good ol' "America JR." is A-OK with me. :D

Holden: So, what do you wanna do tonight?
Banky: I'unno... get a pizza and watch "Degrassi Jr. High."
Holden: You got a weird thing for Canadian melodrama.
Banky: I got a weird thing for girls who say "a-boot".

 Quick, what movie? Kevin Smith fans oughta know.

I've heard people say the SNES version was better. That's the one I have, and never played the Genesis version.

I have all three. I'd say the best one is the SNES one. It has the best controls at least. The Genesis one is more serious and freak'n impossible to beat in comparrison. The SNES one is a bit lighter hearted and IMO is more fun to play. The NES one is very simple and gets boring sooner than the other two, but is still a blast to play.

In comparison maybe, but it is nothing close to impossible.
maybe its just easier for me cuz I always play as Leo.
