Anyone else loving how realistic the nickelodeon Donnie interacts with technology, as if he's just a guy in a basement with internet access?

examples:

- being massively confused by alien computer interface

- making low-tech stuff like ninja claws and flash powder eggs

- metalhead looking kind of hacked together

- laptop made from exposed, scrap parts

- NOT making ultratech bulls*t like hovercrafts and time machines (ala 4kids)

In 1987, the Turtle Comm was quite futuristic; nowadays, its a pretty typical invention for the time. I also like how Don doesn't break everything he makes like in the OT, and in New Friend, Old Enemy, seemed to understand well how to use the Facebook spoof.

He never made a time machine. And the HoverShell was built with help from a stolen Utrom vehicle. Actually, Donny's tech for the most part was pretty down to earth.

i dunno...people tend to take all the stuff bruce wayne/batman and lucius fox did in the dark knight (and arguably the whole dark knight trilogy) as fairly realistic, when it's actually totally not.

its in the execution for me. yes, he built a robot he could control with an nes, but the way it was written relative to the reality/fantasy context of the nick tmnt universe, it WAS pretty realistic.

he's a teenager who created his own i-pod and i-phone, not, as others have mentioned, a million crazy futuristic totally impossible inventions.

plus, he uses pretty "realistic" techno-babble.

does anyone find it weird though that he knows how to make all this crap and knows all this tech jargon but didn't know what a pizza was?
oh and i don't think realistic would be the best word to describe his handle on tech. the ninja claws and egg shell smoke bombs... yes. but i find it hard to think that donnie (who has been underground with no previous exposure to alien tech, reading only the few books he has in the lair and maybe some shows on tv) is able to create a working android from a damaged kraang exosuit. reverse engineering would be nearly impossible. and the tpod too. how did he know how to hack into a satellite for songs. the dude has been sheltered for nearly his whole life.

Donnie is always god-tier when it comes to "doing machines" but I think they are at least taking a fake and fictional realistic approach to it all as well as showcasing the limited amount of technology he actually has at his bay.

Actually it actually totally is. Nolan went to a lot of trouble to only introduce tech that was either existing right now or on its way to being a reality in 5 years.

But that's Batman. Who's got billions of dollars to throw at new and up and coming tech. Who had the best education money can buy. Who traveled the world for years and learned from the best minds alive.

He did have the skills, maybe not in the level of comic book Batman, but more realistic. The scene where he is naming the cops while trying to save Mr. Reese comes to mind.

Are you impliying that Lucius quit in the second film? He didn't, his faith was rewarded because Bruce wired the machine to self destruct once Lucius typed his name. But maybe I read your post wrong.

He says right before Batman goes after the Joker that this is the last thing he will do for him.

The thing is, how does being physically defeated equalls to be intellectually defeated. That has nothing to do with the Pit, or the fact that Bane believed that he had broken Bruce in its enterity. It was more Bane's arrogance to believe that he was better than Bruce. Bane couldn't get out of the Pit, Bruce could.

It seems clear to me now. When I saw the scene, I thought Wayne wanted him to write in his name not to destroy the system, but basically to resign from Wayne Enterprises. Like, that's the last thing you do before you quit.

And I actually thought that Lucius was the one destroying it, not Wayne.
I thought it was all part of that gloomy ending of everything falling apart.

He was intellectually defeated because he actually thought Bane was Talia.
Instead of doing some detective work, he just goes screaming and punching people. I felt bad for him because of his arrogance. Bane gets this look on his face when Batman is yelling at him about stuff that never happened to Bane. It's awkward.

That and not figuring out that the Bane thing was a trap in the earlier scene. I excused it as him being out of the game for 8 years and being over competent and just wanting to get Bane and being totally unprepared. But I wouldn't have mind seeing him use other skills than brute force when he returns to Gotham. He does some light shows and stuff, but he still had no idea what was going on because all of his information came from people just telling him what had happened instead of him acting like a detective.
But that's just my opinion. I like a lot of things in the Nolan films but not Nolan and Bale's interpretation of Batman. Their Bruce Wayne is great, however.
