Hey all-

So last night I came across a TMNT MOC collectors DREAM 190 MOC figures from a guy on CL i ended up only picking up 49 of them due to card conditions and what not but im debating on going back to pick up the rest from the guy at some point! i got some decent gems too!...couple Krangs the Apollo 11 series ALOT of the figures this guy had were late in the run IE 1992+ i was only able to snag like 4 from the original series... All this being said some of the tops are pretty coated in dust and i mean THICK dust not something i can just use computer cleaner to take care of... what is a good way to clean these figures i have heard nail polish remover is a really good way to do it because not only will it remove the dust but will also take care of any grime that is on the box as well that general soap and water wont take care of... so i figured i would ask ...How do you clean your MOC figures or how would you suggest to clean it?

I would avoid putting any chemicals/water or anything on them. Try using a dry duster cloth, and wipe with care. Sometimes a sun glasses cloth is good.

problem is it is pretty thick caked on thing not like normal dust for a duster to pick up... i licked my finger and did a wipe and my finger turned black its pretty bad

Well, maybe get the cloth slightly damp, and try that, but like I said chemicals, will peel the shinny off.

The best way to handle it depends on what is on the packages. If it is just dust, a damp cloth should work fine with minimal chances of damaging the packaging. If it is grease or residue from smoking, you might want to try Goo Gone or a similar product. I've had good luck with Goo Gone in the past, but don't be too aggressive or it can take the ink out of the cards.

i guess i forgot for clarification its not the cards that is the problem it is the bubbles the pretty much have a film of dirt on them ... thats what im trying to clean all bubbles on 50 ...time consuming but worth it ... the cards cleaned up pretty nice actually just have to tackle the bubbles now

I echo the Goo Gone recommendation. It's great!

I've been doing this for decades!!! Trust me when I tell ya ..... clean and shine MOC figures with Lemon Pledge!! Never failed me. Take price stickers off with goo gone or Bestine, then spray and wipe with LemonPledge.

About.com provides a nice procedure for cleaning loose figures, and its pretty simple by just using common household products.

For MOC figures, its a bit trickier since the packaging is more delicate. Except for a few collector's figures such as the Classics collection and NECA figures, the bubble plastic was designed by the toy companies to be temporary, which is why quality care is important. Be careful not to overuse any substance when cleaning your MOC figures.

I got a question, how does Goo Gone affect paint? I recently purchased a bottle, but its just now I pondered how it would affect painted parts.
