Hi everyone, Right, in February 2012 I decided I was sick of all the zombie
Halloween outfits, we sort of killed it 3 years in a row so I had a thought....
Hmmmmm I wonder if I could make a Predator costume...... 9 months later
and I completed it ready for Halloween. I went out with the local paper and
visited some shops in the city centre.

Here's a link for the finished Predator suit

Me as Pred and Davey as Iron Man

Pred Made by me and Iron Man made by Davey

I had so much fun getting dirty making it I decide to try and make 4 TMNT costumes
(cos I couldn't just make one of them could I) Me, My fiancée Heidi, and
a pal Rob 'Rasta' Irving and My bro Ants 'Trinity strangle'

So with this We picked who we would be, I'm Mikey cos orange and
craziness and partying is what I do, Heidi is Donny all because of the
second film when Donny plays with the wobbly clown yeah YEAH.
Rob is Raph cos he's a moody git and my little bro is Leo the leader of the
thang cos he thinks he can lead

Interesting, I am just wondering what you used for the arms/chest pieces if you don't mind revealing your secrets :D

Jay Anderson

Well..... The arms are just a 'Super Muscle shirt' that I latexed Turtle green.

For the front shell... on this pic

On the left is the front template, about an inch smaller around the outside so the foamie can bend round, once you've done the template cover it with 'funky foam A4', 6 should do.... 2 on the top, 2 in the middle and 2 on the bottom with a gap between them all for contours and shape. Once you've covered in foamies attach webbing clips on the inside, 7 should do... 2 for over the shoulders, 2 on either side and 1 for the groin then your ready for latex painting....

I'm making all 4 Turtles for Halloween this year, The first one is a test with the view to tweak it and perfect the process but I've pretty much nailed it first time so replicating it I am, although I've still got to do the legs and head for the first Turtle and that could take a while...........

I'm gonna document it quite abit more this time

I'm more amused by the mannequin wearing the head than I probably should be. :)

This is a great looking project!

If you don't mind sharing, how did you make the foam head and the eyes? I am very interested in making a Turtle costume but I just cant think of a good way to make the head. I have zero sculpting ability :(

If you don't mind sharing,
how did you make the foam head and the eyes?
I am very interested in making a Turtle costume but I just cant think of a good way to make the head.
I have zero sculpting ability :(

I started with a polyhead, put clay on, sculpt a turtle head, plaster of Paris on that to make a mold, stripped the poly head and clay out of the mold, I was left with 2 molds, left and right, lubricated the mold with Vaseline, sprayed expanding foam in the mold, when it was dry i pealed it out of the mold then shaped the inside so my head could fit, glued the 2 half's together and BOOSH you have a foam head.

Once you have the foam head I then flexi fillered allover the head to smooth out and fill in any holes, then it's ready for latexing, about 4-6 coats should do it.

Once you've latexed it your ready for the bandana, Pick your Turtle and get some fabric the right colour, glue a strip inside the eye sockets then glue on the bandana, once it's glued on you can slice inside the eyes and glue down, if you've glued a strip inside the eye socket first it should blend nicely.

For the eye lids I took a piece of fabric, latexed it green, wait till you've done the eyes to you can see how big the eye hole should be.

For the eyes I took 2 pieces of 2mm thick funkyfoam/funfoam (white and brown) cut a round piece in the centre of the white bit of foam, cut the same size round piece of the brown, put the brown inside the white and glue the backside of it, color in the centre black with paint or pen and when it's ready I sprayed it with about 5 coats of clear lacquer, cut the eye lid to size and glued them together, then glue both inside the eye sockets and BOOSH you have the eyes.

For the teeth I took a strip of white foam about 1" high and cut each tooth about 2" long, stuck them all together with bandage tape along the bottom about 1cm high and glued them on the inside of the mouth BOOSH you have teeth.

for the neck I took a piece of fabric and latexed it green, glued it inside the neck of the head and BOOSH you have a neck piece.

BOBS YOUR UNCLE YOU HAVE A TURTLE HEAD

Haha, thanks for the speedy and detailed reply. I will definitely keep this in mind as I try to think of a non molded version of the head. Life would be so much easier if I just knew how to sculpt haha.

Keep up the good work on the costumes, so far it all looks awesome!

Whoa--! That is seriously amazing! Great job and can't wait to see the rest of them :)

Also, thank you for providing tips throughout your work process. I find them very useful myself for when I start making my own costume.
