you're welcome! this donnie's been everywhere with my gf and i for a while now. he's the first nick figure i bought and i did my first ever figure video review with him. he was in my pocket when i got a new job, when my gf and i got some free food at a restaraunt...all kinda accidentally. so now i keep him with me as a sorta good luck charm. and it hasnt faded! we lucked out of a car accident while he was chillin on the dashboard and he fell under a dresser where i found a 10 dollar bill! my gf isn't a huge TMNT fan (tho she loves the first film and the nick show and she had a crush on him during the OT days), but she asked if she could keep him in her pocket this thursday because she has an interview for a promotion at her job.

he's definately gonna be a part of the christmas cheer for us this holiday season! 8)

The "we wish you a turtle christmas" turtles always creeped me out, but I love having little peeks at what they do during the holiday and the winter - bundling up and walking out amongst people, their first experiences with snow and the idea of santa and sledding... I turn into a pile of sentimental mush during Christmastime.

I think this is the ONE time during the year that I"ll actually go out and find fan art and fanfics to read. And I get drawing again...

Slightly old, but it still gets me...

I didn't realize that atheists celebrated a holiday in December as well......or is it one of those things where you just celebrate some secular form of the Judeo-Christian holy days? Or do you do a non-religious version of the wiccan solstice celebration? Or is it a different totally new thing?

Just curious. The atheist guy I grew up with doesn't decorate, send cards, or do gifts with any friends or family. Any gift he gets he donates to charity.

Though I think if they had a Mr. Spock appreciation day he'd be all over it.

Well, I technically have no choice but to celebrate Christmas because of my family. I think you can celebrate Christmas without having to believe in Jesus. You can just find your own meaning in it or celebrate the winter solstice. But I really don't care about the holiday myself. It's just there and nothing more.

But isn't it hypocritical to celebrate Christmas if you are an atheist? I mean, there wouldn't be Christmas without the Christian belief in Jesus....and while I do realize that the holiday is more secular these days, the root of it is still one of the two fundamental mysteries that are the basis of Christianity. Everything that is done on Christmas from lights to trees to gift giving has symbolic meaning. (Although trees were brought forward from a pagan religion....it was religion and belief I deities nonetheless)

Gift giving at Christmas, for example is symbolic of the Magi bringing gifts to the infant Jesus. How, as an atheist do you rationalize giving or receiving gifts during Christmas without being hypocritical by accepting this symbolic representation and in a defacto way, the event behind it?

Again, just curious.

im not religious in the least, but i still love and celebrate christmas. i also love and celebrate halloween, which has roots in religious ceremonies, Valentine's Day, which is based on a massacre, and Thanksgiving, which ended up being a kind of dark stain on humanity, depending on your views.

i dont feel hypocritical, because i wasnt around hundreds or thousands of years ago when thats what these holidays were. i was raised to celebrate them for wat they are now. family, friends and love. :D

Not if you're doing it for the sake of your family and the ones you love. If they celebrate Christmas, then by all means anyone should be allowed to celebrate it even if they don't believe. I don't care about getting presents or anything like that, but I still accept it as it's done for the sake of being nice. And I give my BF gifts just for the sake of being nice to him and not caring about what the whole religious significance of it is. Yes, it's there, but you don't have to be religious to celebrate it if you find your own meaning in it. That's what I do. Besides, who really cares about the religious significance of it anyway? Most of the time, people only celebrate to get gifts and the next big thing that's out. None of them really care about the religious significance of the holiday itself.

And there are even Jewish people who celebrate Christmas as well as Hannukah even though they don't really believe in Jesus. Would you call them hypocrites, too?

I would. If you are going to suscribe to a belief system....at last follow it.

I belive in God.....I believe there are lots of avenues to get to him. One way is Christianity, but also Islam, Judaism. (My church teaches that) and I personally believe all other religions lead to the same being in the end....just lots of different ways to get there.

But if you are going to believe in one path....why disrespect that path by not following the teachings and traditions of that path? Not that Hannukah is wrong or bad...or Christmas...or Ramadan....or any of these celebrations. But if you are Jewish and celebrate Christmas because everyone else does (or whatever the reason) that's disrespectful to your own roots, family, and tradition. You might as well convert.

Well, we certainly enjoy the non-christian parts of christmas... for instance, santa, decorating trees, lights, ornaments, cookies, goofy movies etc. And like most, we were raised with Christmas and so it becomes a family tradition- you simply ignore the religious aspects.
I am sure most of us will skip midnight mass- but we are having festivus/end of the world party (tee hee hee you silly mayans!).
Personally I love to send out holiday cards because I like to let the special people in my life know I am thinking about them- and I like to do it in a way that doesnt involve the internet or telephone. As for gift giving all I can say is that I love my family and friends and we express it in many ways, sometimes in tangible gifts, sometimes simply donating our time to different causes that are significant to each person, but our december doesnt center around money- it centers around caring.

To say that every part of Christmas is based on part of the biblical story... we must live in a different world. I grew up roman catholic and never once did Rudolph show up in the manger... but you will believe what you want. Somehow I knew when I came back to this thread it would have turned from positive to negative- such a shame that you have to hate on each other all the time.

I find it hilarious that Jehovah's Witnesses don't celebrate Christmas but come Easter, they're knocking on people's doors and trying to get them to celebrate Jesus's death. It just confuses me.

And as for the Jewish people I mentioned, they celebrate both Hannukah and Christmas, so they aren't really disrespecting their faith as they celebrate both. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Okay, time for a funny story.

Mom has the electronic deer who light up and their heads move. Well, when she put them out front the one year, we had a lot of snowstorms, and where she put them is notorious for drifting over, though she thought she put them far enough away where they wouldn't be affected. Well, when the snow came, it covered the deer, and the only thing you could see were their butts sticking out of the snow! So, now Mom isn't sure if she wants to put them out this year, though she is thinking of putting them further away where they won't get drifted in.

Needless to say, the image is always funny to think about.

Well, I don't drive like a maniac, but one snowy evening years ago I drove along a plowed road and forgot how slippery the road surface was. I was heading toward a stoplight and I braked-and my car skidded forward. I really kept turning the steering wheel out of fear I would cross over the center line and crash. Ultimately my car spun around and slid against the curb-fortunately causing no damage. My car had spun around so I was facing the wrong way on the street! Good thing there was no other traffic except a car at the other side of the intersection, well away from me, and the only traffic in my lane were cars well behind me. I was able to turn around and continue home safely. Fortunately all that was hurt was my pride. :toops:

Yes indeed they do. And as for similar situation, my older brother was driving the family van one Christmas Day, he had to go home that day as was usual when he still lived close to home, any how, he hit a patch of black ice and the van ended up in the ditch, luckily we didn't roll and all that was hurt was pride, but could've been worse. Ok first off. Regarding Jehovas Whitnesses. yeah they don't celebrate christmas or any holiday (or birthday!) really (except Easter. I still laugh over getting invited to a celebration of his death...) but I've got some JW friends and they've never pressured me into joining them. We've got this one gal who comes to our door at least once a month to give us the latest issue of their magazine (which actually has some interesting articles every once in a while).

I even sent one of my JW friends a christmas card this year just cuz I could. :P

As for all the other holidays. Im not christian anymore cuz I converted to Buddhism but I still celebrate St. Nicholas Day, Christmas and even Hannukah (I have a Jewish uncle). This year Hannukah fell upon Bodhi Day (Kinda the Buddhism version of christmas) so it was a win win for me. *lol*

So happy St. Nicholas Tag, Christmas, Hannukah, Bodhi Day, St. Stephen's Day, St. Lucy's Day, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Festivus, and whatever else holidays there are in December...

Lucy's Day, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Festivus, and whatever else holidays there are in December...

easters about his resurrection, not his death.

easters about his resurrection, not his death.
Which is exactly why it, technically speaking, is more important than his birth. Though to be fair if you're not born you can't die, but it was kind of his "mission" to be a sacrificial lamb for mankind.

A Jehovah's Witness who used to be a coworked said that it was Passover that they celebrated (which Christians don't celebrate).

Really? That's weird because I know a JW who came to our house who wanted us to go to a celebration of Jesus's resurrection. Don't Jewish people celebrate Passover, too?

I think Passover may be strictly for Jewish people as they don't believe in Jesus. Maybe JWs just call it Passover, though they celebrate the death and resurrection, I guess.

Anyway, one more week until Christmas. This month's just flying by!

i was finally able to get my christmas shopping done. not too many people to buy for this year.

i got my boo the most things, since her bday is the 23rd and i think lumping her bday and xmas together would suck. i got her a pair of sylvester the cat slippers and a sylvester the cat beanie for her bday and for xmas i got her an invader zim gir fleece blanket and this big water jug dispenser thing she wanted for work. (she drinks A LOT of liquids...)

got my mom a bottle of sangria and some wine glasses along with a gift certificate to chilis. its her fave stuff, lol.

for the mom in law, i got some fingerless gloves that she asked for, a bottle of this wine she really likes and a bad company cd. she wanted their first one, but all we could find was a greatest hits thing.

for the sis in law i got a bottle of the same wine her mom likes.

and for the pop in law i got some nice headphones he'd been talkin bout.

all were fairly easy to shop for, which im thankful for as i live out in the boonies and dont have a vehicle. *whew*

now to just enjoy the rest of the holiday! :D

Awesome pic, ML. I don't think the manger would fit with them anyway because of their lifestyle, but I love them in that shot.

Got my BF a gift card to Wal-Mart and a giant Hershey's Kiss. So, I'm done with my shopping for the year.

Well. I got my gifts for my mom and brother. Mom's getting a basket with dove shampoo, conditioner, body wash, I think body mist and a one of those wash cloth things. But I know she likes dove products so it's good enough. And isaiah's getting the first two hunger games books.
