Oh boy, what did I get myself into haha. This is going to be fairly long winded but whatever! It needs to be said. The story has to be told. Like everybody else here, I spent my childhood and early teen years as a TMNT fan. One of my grandest Christmas memories, is spending the night at an uncle's house with most of the family in tow and getting to open up a second, even bigger set of presents than what I already had recieved...including a metric ton of Turtles toys! So good.
But I suppose I was never a super fan. Make no mistake, I am a collector and the part of me, who wanted to hoard these toys lived on...to focus on something else. I wandered away! For years, my like of Turtles found itself expressed through 1) Rewatches of the original movie, once every year or so. 2) Plowing through the arcade game on XBox Live once in a blue moon.
But then, oh dear, something happened. Nick's TMNT 2012 popped up to say hello. I had seen the designs. I had read the interviews. I was...aghast. It looked rather horrid didn't it? Shredder slayed me, haha! Such a terrible design...Later in early October, a friend of mine dropped the bomb so to speak...asked me what I thought about the premiere. Oldschool fan just like I was. "I skipped this thing. Looks awful" Said I was wrong. Oh really? Let's find out then...Oh boy. Safe to say, I'm am now a grown man, literally going crazy for a show, whose a follow-up to the very same thing he watched as a child. Perfect, wouldn't you say?
Anyway, my reason to register here, is a bit of a funny one. With Christmas times ahead, and a wallet full of that good ol' Christmas monies, I ventured onwards to local stores to find ideas and entertain myself. I eventually ended up in a toy aisle where three persons where standing. A cute mom with red and blonde hair. A daddy with his backwards cap on, and a little boy...holding two figures. In his left hand was Nick's Leonardo...in his right, Nick's Michelangelo. One quick look up and I realize with absolute horror that the one Leonardo left was in the kid's hand. The two other figures on the wall, were another Mickey and a lonely Foot Soldier. Oh snap. Wait, why was I angry? It's not like I actually wanted it...right?
To be fair, I do buy figures from time to time. I am a collector after all. But Turtles never crossed my mind...until that very moment. I needed that freaking Leonardo right there. He was the only one left! Don't you understand?! So there I was, grinding my teeth at what appears to be a 5 years old while his parents are oblivious to my internal storm. I desperately tried to see if there were any other figures but, what was left was mostly the larger playsets and these bigs talkative ones. No I wanted the smaller ones first!
Then the sound of wheels on the ground. An employee, casually rolled up a cart filled to the brim with pink boxes and other girly toys. He looks at the Turtle wall, then plunges into the stacks to slowly pull out figures one by one and place them in the metal spike jutting out, ready to welcome the new arrivals. One by one, each of the figures were added...except Leonardo. I was fully ready to actually engage conversation with the kid and try to convince him that Mickey was the greatest turtle ever. But no, I didn't do that. That would have been low. I walked off, dejected. A bit nervous because of a freaking toy. This story has went on long enough so let me cut to the chase: I returned about 30 minutes later to find no trace of Michelangelo OR Leonardo. Oh well, I said. "I'm better off this way, because if I actually had found that Leo, I would have probably gotten the full set..." My eyes caught a glimpse of a green and purple box nearer to the floor than the other toys were placed. They dropped it on a lower stall instead of placing it back on the wall! Kid ended up with Mickey and left the Leo there! AWWW YEAH!
Got them all. All of the figures. No regrets. I distinctively remember seeing a Metalhead and a Dogpound on one of my previous ventures there, but didn't buy them since, you know...I've been searching for these two plus Fish Face since then, and finally gathered the courage I guess to mingle here. So there's my story and here I am. Happy to be here and discuss. So, hello!
