View Full Version : Is anyone else happy Nick brought back all the core villains right in Season 1?

In the 4kids series we had to wait all the way till Season 2 to see Leatherhead, and we didn't see Rat King till Season 4. Karai didn't debut till Season 2 either, and the Utroms were saved for the tail-end of Season 1.
Meanwhile with the Nick cartoon, by the first 16 or 17 episodes they've already brought back almost all the core villains from previous incarnations:
- Shredder
- The Kraang (based off of Krang and the Utroms)
- Baxter Stockman and the Mousers
- The Purple Dragons
- Metalhead
- Leatherhead
- The Rat King (debuts in the next episode)
- Karai (debuts in Karai's vendetta)
- General Traag (debuts sometime soon, possibly in Alien Agenda)
That's almost all the main notable TMNT villains from previous incarnations, excluding a few like Slash, Bebop/Rocksteady, and possible 4kids villains.
As much as I like Nick introducing new characters like Dogpound/Fishface/Snakeweed, etc....I'm really glad they brought back all the staples very fast.
I was afraid that Nick would hold off bringing back old characters and instead shove new mutants down our throat, but they've actually done a pretty good balance of mixing old with new. It makes me really excited to know they probably have more returns planned for Season 2 other than Casey Jones. (I'll be shocked if Slash doesn't debut next season).

I'm certainly happy to see them, but being that we've had them all so many times before, I could've waited. What I'm most excited about is that they want to integrate characters who really never got the attention they deserved, like Wingnut.

Most of the Archie oriented characters are definitely the ones who need coming back the most. The Mutanimal characters were all handled better in Archie, as well as characters like Armaggon, Malinga, Verminator X, etc.
There's not much else to use from the Mirage rogues gallery at this point besides the Triceratons. For some reason I don't think Savanti Romero will appear.

Ditto, I would also like to see Hun or Bebop and Rocksteady. What a mix of things..but it would be awesome,if done properly of course.
Good one Zodiac, I'm also looking forward to them!

Season 1 and its villains have been fantastic. I love it so far. It's shown a lot of my favorite aspects of the franchise without going overboard on aliens and other dimensions.
Once the TMNT start traveling to other planets and stuff it starts to lose me. It can still be good, I just don't feel it is TMNT at its best. Probably why I like the first TMNT movie so much... it's just mutants, ninjas and the dark, gritty NYC. I accept that the Kraang and all that comes with Dimension X is a big part of TMNT mythology, I just don't find it as interesting.
It's like the X-Men. I love them but once they get on a spaceship and travel to meet the Shi'ar or the Skrulls out in space I just kind of tune out. Except for the original phoenix and dark phoenix sagas, examples of it done really well and working. But they have milked the phoenix force thing TO DEATH at this point.

Really curious about the Rat King..Also a Villian that gets not enough tribute. Because of Splinter is one of the maincast there would be a lot of interresting uses for storywriting with this villian.. not just controling Splinter...i guess put more efford and creativity in and you got a really badass villian.
I think they don't used him that much in past because they thought they already had a villian with little minions (mousers)..and mousers are more dangerous and inhuman than rats already (?).
I like seeing the rat king.. The incarnation of the OT showed him as a total psychopath who throws garnates at all living things and doing weird experiments. Some kind of a psychopathic stockman with lesser electronic.
Anyway, the 03' Ratkind was not my favor..I like how he was created and all, but in fact he was useless. Hope they will do a good job on the nick series with him.

Oddly enough I agree for other superhero shows, I especially don't like Batman in space, but for TMNT I love Dimension X stories.

Nothing wrong about sending the Turtles in space soon as established with issues 4-7 in Mirage; I just want it only to last 13 episodes at the most, afterward portals will be the way to go for shorter visits. I'm also pleased that IDW brought back most of the core villains right in the first year and a half. I'd still like to see Bebop and Rocksteady later in the series since even 4kids had a cameo of them. And Leatherhead is more of an ally in this series like in Mirage/4kids. I would love to see a Tokka, Rahzar, and Super Shredder at somepoint as well to improve the reputation of Movie II, along with the Kraang leader who is basically Lord Krang. But I still appreciate Dogpound and Stinkweed the most among the new villains.

Yeah, despite Nickelodeon calling him a villain in the itunes concept video, LH is not actually a villain in the 2012 series. :tlol:

Do people nowadays deliberately mistype villAIn? Is it supposed to be trolling or an honest mistake? I see it happening all the time and everywhere.

Movie villains I don't include because other than Rahzar/Tokka I doubt they would be used.
And those Mirage characters, others than Blanque, are throwaway characters. It's like listing those generic mad scientists of the OT, they're not major villains.
I thought the Elite Guard were pretty notable, and Metalhead isn't a major villain.

Speaking from experience, honest mistake.
I thought the Elite Guard were pretty notable.
I always thought Complete Carnage was missed opportunity in the 4Kids series.

The Elite Guard isn't a "character" though, it's an advanced rank of Foot Soldier.

I'm extremelly pleased about the way they're handling the old villains. Other than Shredder, they really didn't need to use all those characters, but what they do shows a lot of respect for the previous incarnations. And as Powder said, I'm even more excited to see what's yet to come with lesser known characters. Wingnut is gonna be awesome.

Is Wingnut/Screwloose really lesser known though? They had a huge role in the Archie comics, appeared as a playable character in Tournament Fighters, and got an episode in the original show.
There's much more obscure characters than them to be honest.

Oh of course there is. I was just saying that I'm very excited to see him come back, as I always liked the character in his Archie incarnation.

Other than LH, my biggest wish for a character is Ray Fillet and the Punk Frogs.

I really like the way they've introduced the villains so far, especially Shredder. They've done a good job with him, and I can't wait to see when he comes back for battle again.

I'm positive that the Fred Wolf fans will be placated in season 2 or 3. Bebop and Rocksteady are being saved for future incentives, I'm sure ("Tune in next season, because guess who returns??? BEBOP AND ROCKSTEADY!! GET READY FOR TOITLE SOUP YOUSE GUYS!"). I would bet the farm on it. Mark my words. And no one is going to be less surprised than me when we meet the leader of the "Kraang."
Meh. Whatever. It's the perfect venue for them anyway.

I think it would be kinda cool if Nick imports over Old Hob from the IDW series. His backstory would have to be changed as Splinter has a human origin in this version, but he'd be nice to see.
Old Hob being a mutant cat fits in well with the typical animal mutants of the cartoons.

Rocksteady and Bebop- I really hope we get to see the two goofballs again in the coming seasins. Other than them, most of the recognizable and popular villand have already been reintroduced.

Can you imagine Bebop and Rocksteady squaring off against Dogpound and Fishface? Come to think of it, I'd pay good money to see that!

IF they appear I hope they're like they were in Season 1 of the OT. Stupid but still threatening.

I'm sure they won't be radically different than they were in the Fred Wolf show, don't worry.

You know... with Mikey being dumb and Baxter a bumbling idiot... and them already having Bradford and Xever as two dangerous serious and competent henchmen.... I'm really afraid they're gonna go the silly route and just make Bebop and Rocksteady dumb as all hell.
Maybe if Bradford and Xever get taken out and Shredder needed two more henchmen... or maybe if they had just gone with Bebop and Rocksteady and make them as dangerous as Bradford and Xever from the start... but as it is now, I kinda see them as appearing as a slapstick comedy duo not unlike Home Alone's Wet Bandits....
