Hi all,
Two questions for you all:

1) Are the "bonus" episodes from the first OT DVD also found on the "Final Season" DVD? Or do you have to have both sets to have the final season?

2) Is there an official reason why the OT DVDs didn't utilize existing TMNT OT artwork for its packages? I think only the first release had official art, which was Splinter on the back cover. Otherwise, its all newly drawn art, including a wrongly-colored Splinter in a later volume. So many of the poses were reused. I'm just wondering why they didn't use existing art. Thoughts?

Thanks!

All 8 Season 10 episodes including the ones that were released in season 1 are on the season 10 DVD.

Yes, the "previously unseen episodes" also show up in Season 10. they were just bonus features on the first season disc.

I'm not sure on the artwork. Doesn't bother me too much.

1) Didn't even fix it for the complete release

2) Because Lionsgate didn't care about the fans and just wanted your money.

Lionsgate doesn't have the rights for official art, same reason Mirage didn't and had to redraw the Turtles in OT style for T-shirts.

Wow, I find that so interesting. It seems odd that the birthplace of the turtles (Mirage) wouldn't have rights to the old toon artwork. I guess that falls into the details between Mirage and Fred Wolf Films. As for Lionsgate, it seems even weirder that they could have the rights to distribute the show on DVD but not have access to artwork with which to market the show. :-?

If they had stock art they would have used it. They obviously had to pay an artist for his work on the DVD covers.

Sure. Its just weird. How do you get the rights to a show but not to artwork from the show in order to market it? Silly.

Are there any sources for this?

It does seem rather strange that they didn't use the OT artwork, but they did use it for the S1 DVD. I remember we speculated on this forums that it was done re-using 2k3 poses in order to get kids who viewed the 2k3 show to buy the DVDs, then they switched to 2007 designs when the movie came out to cash-in, but that was just speculation.

Why wouldn't Lionsgate have the rights to the OT designs? They obviously had a deal with FW not to mention they used screenshots from the show on the back. Only thing I can think of is they didn't have enough HQ/ppi images to make DVD covers so they had to make new covers.

As far as Mirage not owning them, well all I remember is they didn't have the rights to post screenshots from the actual show so that's why they didn't have any but they did have stock art from the OT didn't they? not to mention they used the designs and posted the character sheets when Turtles Forever was going to come out. I do remember a discussion where Roseangelo mentioned the T-Shirt OT turtle bothered her because it was re-drawn from the original but I don't remember anything about it being done for legal reasons.
