just watching my old tmnt season 2 dvd and I think the original mini-series has its own shelf, but i think season 2 was the best season of old tmnt

The voices of the old turtles were more clear. leo didnt have a high pitched worry voice, it was more calm and we can do it

the weapon use was great, all 4 of them had their weapons for hand to hand combat,

it had a nice mini-series of its own with the eye of sarnoth

bebop/rocksteady werent as nearly as annoying as they are in the other seasons

shredder used his own wits for a few episodes.

wasnt always a given the turtles would prevail

loved how leo told splinter they failed and splinter said its all part of the learning process.

good season ending too.

Season 2 was a nice, solid season.

However my favorite season after the first was either Season 3 or Season 7, as both had a large chunk of excellent episodes.

I think Season 2 has some great story ideas. The animation was very inconsistent in quality, but it's cool that they did a series of stand-alone episodes that all contributed to a larger story arc.

Season 2 probably had a real ending because at the time they didn't know the series was going to become a huge hit. So like Season 1, it had an, "ending" just in case. Same could be said for Season 3.

I always found it funny that Season 4 ended on random filler episode about Leonardo and those town hicks thinking he was an alien in upstate NY. Imagine if that was the last episode of the show? Thank god the show got renewed.

This. Not to mention the tone and many guest characters. Season 8 even if too short is a runners up for me.

Season 2 had some continuity, more than later seasons which have interchangable episode orders. I remember as a kid, thinking the series was over after the last episode, since (spoilers) the technodrome was obviously destroyed by the lava and Shredder & Krang were no doubt dead. That is one of the better season finale episodes, along with season 3's finale, which also felt a lot like a series finale episode.

Season 2 rocks. The dark, Mirage-echoing, sewer dwelling is still around.

It seems like the lack of a "proper ending" for Seasons 4, 5, and 6 meant that the writers seemed pretty confident that there would be at least an additional season based upon being run on a major network and big merchandise sales (though Season 6 does end with a Raphael gag about summer reruns). Though 1993 is when things started to change with the disappointing third Turtles movie which may have questioned the writers that the end may be approaching. That's why Season 7 and beyond had more "just in case" endings.

Since Season 2 has two distinct phases (Shredder and Baxter on Earth followed by Shredder, Rocksteady & Bebop on Earth) with Shredder only returning to the Technodrome once, it was definitely Shredder's show that season. The animation can be a bit odd however, fromthe white belt intials, the color-coded eyelids on the Turtles, the not-yet finalized lair, along with more recycled scenes along with the awkward looking Channel 6 building. But Splinter and April seem more important to the Turtles here then they would later on the series, with Splinter being a good sensor of danger and April not quite yet in her "I'm only a reporter and help me" phase, going on a number of adventures with the Turtles. The music had that classic synthpop feel as in Season 1, with a few new cues introduced as well. If Season 1 wants you wanting for more after just five episodes, Season 2 delivers with a nice blend of continuity and episodic slapstick in a few later episodes. It also delivers more humor, since adlibbing was still common by the cast as they seemed to find their groove.

Season 9 ended on a cliffhanger too, so I think they knew they were getting a Season 10.

That's what I assumed also when Seasons 4, 5, and 6 had no traditional Technodrome season finale. 1993 was the transitioning point not only because of the disappointing 3rd movie, but also with lackluster sales of the TMNT tournament Fighters game, the 3rd Game Boy Game and of course the Power Rangers & Batman: The Animated Series were now taking a big bite out of their audience now. It's also the year when some TMNT fan magazines stop their circulations also. It would explain why 1993 would be the final season before the Red Sky seasons.

As for the 2nd season, the episodes in my opinion all seemed continuous and fresh without falling into the formulaic bad evil scientist plot that would be prevalent in the 4th and 5th seasons. Then again, these writers wrote 47 episodes for Season 3, 39 + 13 episodes for Season 4 (if you include the European Vacation), and 22 episodes for Season 5 which is FAR more episodes than live-action adult comedy or drama shows could produce each year. So it would explain why those middle seasons had some disappointing episodes.

While season 2 was a significant comedic deviation from season 1, it still managed to keep the action/adventure aspect of the series as the main focus since this cartoon series still had a lot to prove in early 1988 (when it was being produced) in terms of merchandising and profitable appeal.

In terms of overall tone I prefer season 1 or 7 because it had the right balance of seriousness and comedy, before the Red Sky seasons would overemphasize the action and become too serious where the character development/relationships seemed to fall to the wayside and were ignored. But that's not to dismiss the slapstick comedy of season 3-5, I enjoyed them too...but those episodes were a bit too frequent and may have caused the TMNT to cool off their aggressive/attacking "coolness" factor. I mean just look at every subsequent TMNT movie at that time; they were becoming more and more of a comedy act than action fighters.

Leo had a deeper and more serious tone of voice in season 1.

Besides, was there any seasons where shredder didn't use his wits?

I like season two, though I'm not sure which I'd call "best". I'd still view the five-part pilot as a "season", myself.

Season two gets in that good range where you can enjoy it ironically, recognize its stupidity at some points, but nothing that makes you cringe *that* badly. Sure, it's a step down from the pilot, but nothing is taxing about it. I find the seasons after this one much harder to watch, though they can still be fun, too.

Besides that, I also like it for the first half showing my favourite version of Fred Wolf Baxter Stockman--I still like 'im as a fly, but his crazy human version is the most fun, even if it's also the most cliched and the kind of character I should hate. :)

Wha? You lost me.

It's from the 'Eye of sarnoth' four parter. The cameraman, a guy with blond hair and glasses whose name i can't remember, is reading a book, by which the cover implies is written by Walt Kubiak, one of the series animation director by that time.

Blodget, or however you spell it. That Woody Allen-type hoser.

He's got a self-help tape with the name "Walt Kubiak" on it.

Season 2 was good but I like Seasons 6 through 10 better. I like how when the turtles mutated in season 9, all their voices sounded tougher, Leonardo sounded just the way he did in seasons 1 and 2.
