View Full Version : Can a fire hydrant really spray back your enemies?

So many times in the OT, and in the videogames, the Turtles would hit open a fire hydrant and the water would spray Bebop/Rocksteady or whomever completely off balance and knock them to the ground or against a wall.

Does this work in real life? Is the water pressure really that controlled and forceful?

sounds like a mythbusters mini experiment material.

Making the enemy fly away seems to be a stretch, but maybe the water power could make someone go off balance and fall.

I actually don't think the physics of the popular thinking behind it is all that much off-base if one were to actually bang off the side of one.

It's a good lesson not to take the fire hydrant nozzle off since I remember that my bus stop had a fire hydrant next to it and tried to remove the nozzle with my hand thinking that it would be cool, as a little child could get hurt by the enormous pressure of the water.

when you open a hydrant to cool down in the city, it continues to spray for a bit, that's the fun... The initial burst could definitely knock someone down or at least off balance, it all depends on the situation. It would definitely need to be a perfect hit to knock it open without losing any pressure

I remember in the opening scene to Weekend at Bernie's some guy was helping a kid turn on a fire hydrant and the force of the water blasted him across the street, so yea it's possible.

I actually do belive so. :ohwell: The pressure is enormous and human-sized Objects don't weigh that much.
