IMDB says he is voiced by Steve Blum (Starscream from TF Prime) but he sounds like he is voiced by Jeffrey Combs instead (Ratchet from TF Prime)

Jeffrey Combs was also that Dr.Victor Falco guy in that Monkey Brains episode. I think that Dr turns into the Ratking!

Good find and good ear, that's definitely Combs.

That would be cool if Falco became the Rat King, as it would explain how he controls rats. I'm sure there's an interesting story behind how he lost his other telepathic powers and what happened to his face.

I was wondering what they were going to do with Dr. Falco but it seems like an interesting concept. Rat King's control of rats has never been explained (outside of 4kids where he had Splinter's DNA), so its a neat idea.

The thing is this episode probably doesn't take place that far apart from Dr. Falco's, even in-show time its probably only a few months, so its amazing to see his face degenerate so much.

Holy crap, I LOVE how horrific the Rat King looks, it's even better in motion! I am so stoked for this episode, especially since it seems like Splinter is going to play a bigger role than he usually does, which is not only awesome to see him, but also since I love seeing the Turtles fighting as a cohesive unit rather than splitting up. I'm sure Raph was just being generous by remembering they..."kind of" beat Splinter once before though. Though if he wasn't that's also pretty interesting. Why would they have had to fight him before? Training? Or something else? I wonder if it'll say.

Ahh, that makes a lot more sense if they were in fact referring to Dr. Falco rather than Splinter. Though wasn't it really only Don who actually brought him down? Guess I'm being picky there, but that certainly does seem like a more plausible statement rather than talking about ever having fought against Splinter and I can see that now rewatching it.

When Raph said "We beat him before", my mind went to that online comic/game thing that is on Nick's site. They sort of beat Splinter in that comic. Dunno if he's refering to that though.

My guess is he probably injected himself with the serum from 'Monkey Brains' (or variations from it) one too many times.

I really hope The Rat King isn't Dr. Falco... but after viewing this clip, it may be possible (the mind control scene and Jeffery Combs voicing the character, also Ralph saying "we beat him before" - though it could be an earlier fight with Splinter). I rather they be separate characters and Dr. Falco didn't hint at anything towards rats... then again the writers on this show are brilliant so I have worries.

I see this version giving of The Rat King terrifying a lot kids, hell I got a creepy vibe just seeing this clip.

I love it!!!! I can't wait for Friday.

I just hope he actually stays Rat King for the rest of the series. I hope he doesn't inject himself with some revitalizing serum to turn back to normal or mutate himself into a different character.

One of my gripes with the 4kids series was that Rat King was only in one full episode, I hope Nick doesn't repeat that mistake. I'd love to see Rat King be recurring for the rest of the show.

I expect the Rat King will be one of those 'once in a while' characters, considering his -so far displayed- abilities and all. Not to mention I suspect his inherent creepiness might be a factor in limited use, too.

(Although not gonna lie: I still kinda want to cosplay as him at C2E2 this year if Iolande from 'Green Lantern TAS' doesn't work out, because the design is creepy awesome, imho. Not sure how I'd be able to do the hands... or the eyes, for that matter)

Alright. I may be wrong about this, but I'm gonna throw it in here anyways. So just please hear me out.

As much as i would find it cool if the Ratking is Falco... What if the clip (first clip) we saw was from the middle/towards the end of the episode, and the reason why Raphael said, "We beat him before. " and Leo said, "We can beat him again."could be because they encountered the Ratking earlier in the episode. Also I thought Dr. Falcon could only read minds. :? If he could control them, why would he only want to control the minds of rats?

But, again I say, I may be wrong. (If I'm right ya'll owe me. JK) :tgrin:

If he is Dr. Falco, I'm glad that the RK will have a backstory. Seems plausible that Falco would continue injecting himself with animal DNA...why not rat DNA. Plus this would tie up a loose end with what happened to Falco.

this looks awesome. It would make sense if he were Falco and would make NO sense if they used the same voice actor but didn't change the voice... I wondered why Falco was introduced.

I'm a huge fan of the 80's cartoon version of Rat King but they have managed to make me a fan of this design. Really, really, awesome.

I could see it being Falco as he escaped after the Turtles dealt with him before, and it seemed like he wasn't finished with them either, so I hope it is Falco. That would be cool.

I don't like his new design - it looks too much like the Scarecrow from Batman - but I love how he's acting more like the OT Rat King and less like the 2K3 Rat King.

I can see why they didn't use the "white guy wrapped up in bandages" design of previous iterations but I still don't like the new design. It's the nostalgia nut in me!
You're not alone hell I thought the same thing about the Scarecrow whe I saw him or a Scooby Doo bad guy.:lol:
The episode does look cool though.

I won't be surprised if it's him, no. I just don't think it was setup properly in the prior episode though if it does turn out to be Falco. I didn't notice any foreshadowing or anything.

Adam: I've got a theory that Rat King was picked on as a kid or something, and decided he couldn't live among human society, he's gonna go live with the rats. Somehow he gets a magic flute, he is able to control the rats, and his whole life is dedicated to be able to control people like he controls the rats.
Kevin: Well, I mean, he seems to have some technical know-how. He probably built the flute, somehow.
Adam: 'Cause he does sorta got a little chemistry knowledge he's able to work with.
Kevin: He makes the soda pop grenades, he made this mutagen system that he uses to mutate Irma and Vernon.
Adam: So is he like Baxter, sort of the scorned scientist who was never appreciated and wants revenge on humanity?
Kevin: I guess so. Maybe he has a deep respect for the rats he used to experiment on and they became his closest friends, and maybe that's what cause him to be come the Rat King.
Adam: I never thought about it.

I don't know about you guys, but I used to love it when cartoons scared the sh*t out of me as a kid. Batman: TAS always came on at night, and even Batman himself would scare me sometimes lol. Also The Real Ghostbusters had some legitimately creepy moments

I found live-action horror genuinely unsettling, but as far as animation went I ate it up.

Wanna say Adam and I used that as an origin for FW's Rat King, yeah.

SO stoked for this. I watched the clip with my four-year-old and I don’t know which one of us is more excited. I guess I’m lucky she likes creepy stuff – she thinks the Rat King looks “scary and cool.” (She also requested pizza gyozas for dinner.) :D

RK was always one of my favorite villains from back in the day. I’m so glad to see him making a comeback. Gotta say, I’m into this new design they’ve got going for him too. Sorry to gush, but this show has really been delivering for me so far. It’s got just the right amount of nostalgic elements to satisfy what I used to love about the turtles, without re-hashing the same old storylines. Nick’s doing a bang up job, I hope they keep it up!

I’m kind of glad they didn’t set it up. This would be a nice twist to find out he’s actually Falco, IMO. I sort of figured Falco for a throwaway character, a guy that would maybe show up once or twice later on. I’m guessing they’ll explain how he came to be the Rat King in this episode with a brief flashback or something.

I mean, remember how the episode about 'The Gauntlet' just showed Pigeon Pete? And how the Mousers episode only showcased the Turtles A Team VS B Team thing? Or the Dogpound episode that only showed Mikey's water balloon deal?

iirc, the designers cited the plague doctors as a visual influence for the Rat King.
