Anything up to season 5 it just goes downhill from that point.
But season 3 or 4 is probley the best, so you should watch that.

Uh, no. Seasons 6-8 are great and have much tighter written stories than parts of 4 and 5. The last two depend of you like Lord Dregg.

All of season 1, probably all of season 2 (maybe skip New York's shiniest).

Most of season 3 is great, but since it's so long I'll hit you with my favorites:

Beneath These Streets, Turtles on Trial, The Maltese Hamster, The Old Switcheroo, Burnes Blues, Enter the Rat King, The Ninja Sword of Nowhere, 200000 Leaks Under the Sea, Take me to Your Leader, Cowabunga Shredhead, Return of the Fly, Casey Jones: Outlaw Hero, Corporate Raiders from Dimension X, Beware the Lotus, Leatherhead, Usagi Yojimbo, Usagi Come Home, The Making of Metalhead, Leatherhead Meets The Rat King, The Grybyx, ShredderVille, and The "Big Triology"/season 3 finale'.

If you liked those episodes enough, I'd recommend finishing season 3. Seasons' 4, 5, and 6 are pretty rough, but there's some gems hidden in there. Season 7 was mostly excellent. Red Sky seasons were.... uninspired.

Seasons 6, 7 and 8 have much better action and plots.

The show actually remains at the same level of writing though, so it never actually goes downhill.

And what unfinished plots are you talking about?

Carter carter carter carter, and unfished plots:tgrumble:

Carter was actually a pretty cool and likable character, but it was troubling how they shoved him down our throats all season long. I would have preferred him in a "Casey Jones capacity" rather than "instant 5th turtle".

They never even made a toy of him, so it makes even less sense that he was in like every single scene.

Playmates never made toys of any of the last season characters though. Not even Berserko or Titanus from Season 8.

Watch as much as possible, seasonwise. Season 4-5 are much for you if you get tired on Shredder and Krang episodes, and want some solo-adventures (where one turtle goes off, usually to the countryside, and team up with some other, to fight off a gangster or mad scientist). Circa half of the episodes are such episodes in thsoe seasons.

For any fan of the 2003 series, I would recommend The Legend of Koji from season 7. It has Shredder, Splinter and the turtles traveling back in time to ancient Japan to when the Foot Clan was founded. Sometimes, that episode feels like a 2003 episode to me, and I like it.

Also, Night of the Dark Turtle, also in season 7. It's the only episode that has Triceratons. You may be surprised that they don't have helmets on considering they can't breathe oxygen in the 2003 show.

Mobster From Dimension X from season 10. It has a scientist who kinda looks like 2003 Baxter Stockman and he invented a helmet that can control stuff electronically with the mind just like the Fugitoid did.

I used to think that if there was a way to trim down the ep count and only keep the ones that 'mattered' it would go something like this.

All of season 1 and 2.

Season 3's first episode, and any episode that has recurring or playmates based TMNT characters like Leatherhead, Casey Jones, Rat King, Metalhead, etc and the 'Big Trilogy'. I kinda hate to add Zach to that list... but he appears in too many episodes to leave out, so... oh well.

Season 4's openers since I guess Dimension X story and Plan 6 from Dimension X both open the season. Any episode that features the recurring guest stars like Leatherhead and such, as well as the newer Playmates-based characters like Mondo Gecko, Slash, Muck Man, Mutagen Man, etc. And any episode where the Technodrome changes location as well. Tempestra's episode also counts so it explains where she came from in the 'Night of the Rogues' episode.

And to wrap it up I guess all of the Red Sky eps since the plots became tighter in continuity.

I've been rewatching the show for a while now, even just watching 2 eps per day you can get through the whole series rather quickly.

A lot of good episodes are solo adventures for the Turtles where they go off on their own. Those eps may not be "important," but they're fun episodes with the Turtles on their own adventures.

There's a lot like those in Seasons 4 and 5.

Season 5 has some real gems like "The Ice creature cometh" the one with Shredder's brother, "Donatello's Duplicate" and the Mutagen Man episode.

I also really like Muckman's episode oddly enough. Mainly because its the only ep of Season 5 where the Turtles go to the Technodrome and battle Foot Soldiers.

Also all episodes with Baxter, Rat King and Leatherhead were great.

Aside from the first two seasons, I'd recommend season 7. It had a lot of good eps, imo. As for specific eps, I'll add more on that later when on my laptop.

Edit: Okay, back on the laptop. Anyway, here are eps I'd recommend checking out and I'm not going to mention season 1, 2, or 7 eps since I recommended those as a whole.

Okay, eps I'd personally recommend, and sorry if some of these have already been mentioned:

Season 3
Beneath These Streets: Really good ep, especially since they were really teen-like for it. You know, rebellious against their parents, that type of thing.

Turtles on Trial: What I liked about this one, was what I enjoyed about season 8. People doubting the turtles and people turning against them.

Sky Turtles: It was just silly. lol

The Old Switcheroo: Splinter and Shredder switch places. lol

Burne's Blues: Well, maybe.

The Fifth Turtle: Introduces Zach. I know a lot of people didn't like him, but...as a kid, I did. I thought it was cool that he FOUND the lair and could hang with them.

Enter the Rat King: Rat King's introduction ep.

Ninja Sword of Nowhere: Yay ninja stuff! lol

Take me to your leader: Sorta. It's a nice Leo ep, but I also disliked it for the other three.

Cowabunga Shredhead: Loved this one asa kid, and still love it as an adult! Shredder was hilarious.

Green with Jealousy: Not sure how many like it, but...I always liked this one as a kid too and kinda still like it now. One girl...three lovesick turtles. Who will she choose? lol

Return of the Fly: Obvious why. lol

Casey Jones Outlaw Hero: Obvious why. lol

Corporate Raiders from Dimension X: I loved Casey Jones eps as a kid.

Pizza by the Shred: lol Gotta love working for Shredder and not knowing it. lol

Super Bebop and Mighty Rocksteady: Yay!

Beware the Lotus: Lotus was an awesome character. The OT's version of Karai, getting down to it.

Leatherhead Terror of the Swamp: Obvious why

Usagi Yojimbo: Obvious why

Usagi Come Home

The Making of Metal Head

Leatherhead Meets the Rat King: Fun ep

Shredderville: Just a take on what the world would be like if Shredder won

Bye Bye Fly

The Big Rip Off/The Big Break In/The Big Blow Out

Wow...I liked a lot of season 3. Didn't realize it.

Season 4
Plan Six from Outer Space
Shredder's Mom
Son of the Return of the Fly II

Raphael Meets his Match: Wow! I LOVED this ep as a kid, and still one of my all-time favs of the series. ^^ I really liked Mona Lisa.

Slash the Evil Turtle from Dimension X

Were Rats from Channel 6: The story was stupid, but still fun.

Donatello Makes Time: I'm one of the odd ones who actually liked this ep. lol

Farewell Lotus Blossom

Rebel without a Fin: Dunno, I liked this ep a lot as a kid. Thought it was funny. ^^

What's Michelangelo Good For?
Donatello's Degree

Leonardo versus Tempestra: Great Leo ep, imo.

Splinter Vanishes

The Foot Soldiers Are Revolting: The Foot Soldiers revolt. lol

Season 5
Once Upon a Time Machine: I know a lot of people recommend this one, but personally, I never liked it much. Didn't care for it then, don't now.

My Brother the Bad Guy: Introduces Shredder's brother, and no, it's not Nagi. ^^

Michelangelo Meets Mondo Gecko

Raphael versus the Volcano: Raph thinks he's dying.

Donatello's Duplicate

The Ice Creature Cometh: I really like Bebop more than I do Rocksteady.

Leonardo Cuts Loose: This ep I recommend for being so funny, and it has characters with very bad Arnold Scharzeneggar (sp?) impressions. *coughs*RobPaulsen*coughs* lol Oh, and of course, there's Casey Jones.

Leonardo the Renaissance Turtle: Great Leo ep! Definitely one of the best ones along with the snake ep.

Planet of the Turtleoids Parts 1/2

Season 6
Rock Around the Block
Krangenstein Lives
Sword of Yurikawa
Return of the Turtleoid
Shreeka's Revenge
Donatello Trashes Slash

Snakes Alive: This is the other Leo ep I thought was really good!

Polly Wanna Pizza: Good for Mikey fans

Mr. Nice Guy: Good for Raph fans.

As for season 8 - 10, I guess I'd recommend those seasons too, mainly because those seasons are short. Oh, and I think I'm missing an ep. The ep where they learn how the Foot Clan was formed. They end up going back to ancient Japan or something like that. It was really nice, since you get to see Oroku Saki and Hamato Yoshi's ancestors.

Eps I wouldn't recommend are those terrible (imo) European Vacation eps. ><

Edit: Never mind. The ep I was thinking of was The Legend of Koji. It was in season 7. I thought it was earlier than that. ^^

Season 3 was also almost consistently excellent. The only bad Season 3 eps were, "The Gangs All here" (ep Mike turns human), "The Turtle Terminator, (ep with a robot Irma, bad animation and Raph's alternate voice), "Blast from the Past, (clip show ep).

I actually liked Zacks eps in Season 3, mainly because they always threw him into important episodes. His debut ep was fine, and he was in, "The Great Boldini" and "Shredderville" as well.

I also strangely don't have a problem with Mr. Ogg's episode.

"What's Michaelangelo good for?" from Season 4 was the best, "mad scientist" episode of the series.

The guy was like Hugo Strange from Batman, and I loved the way he genetically spliced animals together. That and its a Michaelangelo episode where he has to rescue the other Turtles all by himself.

Plus Pigeon Pete is in it. He was better before he was mutated. :)

Whoa.

I'm working my way back through the old cartoon in order this time, instead of watching the episodes focused on my favourite characters first--I saw a screencap of this and thought it was from a PSA. Now that skateboarding Splinter is canon, I'm looking forward to seeing the awesomeness. :tlol:

Why do people say season 4-5 + Vacation in Europe (I like the Sherlock Holmes crossover) are that bad? I agree the Shredder and Krang episodes are weaker than during season 1-3, but the non-Shredder episode are good, and give space for solo-adventures, leaving New York City for rural USA and new characters (mad scientists, gangsters, Jane Goodfellow, Mona-Lisa and Mondo Gecko, and Kevin Tyler, also I would prefer Buffy Shellhammer being hunted by someone other). As a kid, I hated non-Shredder and Krang episodes, but in 2003-2004 when re-watching, I recall seing "Enter the Rat King", and I was like "Fantastic episode".

Non-Shredder and Krang episodes aren't even supposed to include the same ninjutsu action and rivalry.

TMNT shall have two aspects, that makes it so great
**The first one is the down to Earth perspective, which includes the TMNT meeting ordinary people, travelling to rural districts and that stuff.
**The other is the fantastic science fiction elements of Dimension X, Krang and the Technodrome.
