View Full Version : Older characters from TMNT lore that you think will fade away into obscurity?

There are a lot of TMNT characters that show up in every incarnation just about, (like Baxter/Rat King/Leatherhead), while others only had a hiatus due to PL not allowing those characters in the 4kids series.

However now that Nick and IDW are free to bring back whoever they want, which characters do you think WON'T be revived in either series? I can think of a few:

1) Pimiko. She only ever appeared in the Image comics and was Shredder's biological daughter. However, since both Nick and IDW have followed the 4kids route of making Karai into Shredder's daughter, it makes it seem like the character of Pimiko will be forgotten about and never revived.

2) Complete Carnage and Radical. Peter confirmed they didn't appear in the 4kids series simply because he never liked them much. If even PL didn't want to use them, I cannot see such obscure characters returning in either IDW or Nick.

3) Many OT characters created in the later seasons, such as Lord Dregg, Beserko, Titanus, Shreeka, Carter, etc. Some of these were good characters, but they came so late into the OT's run that most casual fans never knew them. The lack of toys certainly didn't help.

4) Lotus Blossom. Similar to Pimiko, her character is really redundant with Karai around. If anything she basically was the OT version of her before Karai even existed.

5) Many Playmates mutant characters that never appeared in the OT. I doubt we'll ever see the debut of such characters like Monty Moose or King Lionheart, and we're better off without them.

6) Archie oriented characters that were not major villains or Playmates characters. Examples would probably be Chein Khan (another dog mutant), or Toxeem or possibly even Null.

And this of course goes for all the minor characters in the OT and 4kids series, like the mad scientists, the one-shot aliens, characters like Touch and Go or the Ultimate Ninja...possibly even all the Fast Forward characters.

Can you think of any others that you don't think Nick or IDW will revive?

Venus. Peter Laird even admitted to the mistake of creating a female turtle, and remains the reason why the Next Mutation isn't well liked. However, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a gag about how uncool Venus would be whether in Nick and/or IDW.

The Ninja Tribunal's Acolytes. They were created specifically for the 4kids series and aired at a time when executive meddling was causing problems, along with the dearth of toys created. The Ancient One and Ninjitsu masters could still show up later in Nick/IDW since there's a lot going for them.

Most of the Fast Forward characters, such as Cody Jones, Viral, and Darius Dun. Like the characters introduced for Red Sky, they came at a waning phase of a series, and even I don't know all the names of them off the top of my head (Torbin Zixx, Aramzedo anyone?) The Dark Turtles are a possible exception.

Most TMNT characters wont be used again.

For every Leatherhead, Baxter and Karai you get a bunch more Kenos, Lord Dreggs, Bonesteels, Garbage men, Mary Bones and Kermas.

You know the more I think about it, I kinda prefer it that way. Why does every character in the history of the franchise have to be brought back? If anything, limiting most of them to one or two iterations makes them all the more unique and special. Look at how many different versions of April, Splinter and each Turtle we've had over the past two and a half decades. A couple more generations and people won't be able to keep track anymore.

Agree, do we really need the mutamals to appear in this series? Or any other obscure charecter
Personally I just like it when nick creates original charecters

Well we had Angel, a rather obscure character from the 4kids series brought back in IDW, so I don't know.

Classic OT characters like General Traag and Metalhead have been revived as well, so I can see more showing up.

I have to follow Jephael here because if every iteration had the same exact characters (especially the minor ones), every iteration would come across as too similar and it would lose the anticipation of expecting something new in a new iteration.

I agree with your list actually. Especially anyone that either never got an action figure, was never in the 80's show or both. Noone exclusive from Image and Archie comics.

I do wonder about Renet, but I kinda doubt that with the exception of Karai there probably won't be any original Mirage characters that haven't already appeared in the 80's cartoon and other media. I count Leatherhead, Rat King, Baxter, the Purple Dragons and Casey Jones into that list since they have already appeared several times before. By original Mirage characters I meant Renet, Nobody, Savanti and so forth, and like I said, Karai was the first Mirage character to break it into this new series.

And while we're at it, with all the OT cameos and references, the only character I seen from the OT here is Metalhead. They could have easily have gone with an all-new Turtle robot or used the Turtlebot but they went with the classic Metalhead design instead. I know we've seen callbacks and such, but unless we actually see Irma herself in April's school or see Mondo Gecko skateboarding alongside Mikey, I still say Metalhead is the only OT character so far.

This one drives me totally nuts. I don't know if anyone cares, but there's actually a severe shortage of female TMNT characters, so I can't stand when they take an awesome stand-alone character like Karai and force her into the role of Shredder's daughter when he already has a badass kunoichi daughter.

Makes me wish Pimiko existed in the Mirage books before Image, her character would have been a bit more well known and 4kids might had used her.

That being said all the Image created characters will likely be forgotten, like King Komodo, Deathwatch, etc. Good thing the rest of the series was about the Foot and Triceratons.

Bugman, Silver Sentry, Nobody, Stainless Steel Steve and the other superheroes probably won't return either.

Probably the reason Raph called him Spike. If he called him Slash from the get-go it would have been way too obvious. And isn't Spike kinda like a snapping turtle?

It's still confusing and I don't see why Spike/Slash would be evil though, nor why he would turn on Raph. If they choose to go that route, I'd rather see him as a misunderstood hero or something, but not an outright villain.

The main reason I kinda don't want Spike to become Slash is because I see no reason for him to become evil, or to not suddenly become the official 5th Turtle in the team. I know they'd never mess with status quo like that...

They set him up as a parallel to Raph. Him being evil but Raph caring for him would be similar to if Karai is really Miwa.

I'm of two minds about this. I think it was perfectly legitimate for the 4Kids cartoon to make Karai the Shredder's daughter instead of using Pimiko. Not only is 4Kids Karai far more similar to the former than the latter, she actually debuts in the adaptation of Karai's original appearance. Yes, there was already existing daughter of the Shredder, but there was also an already existing character who brought the warring Foot back under her control.

Now, with any of the other incarnations? I would have to agree. The film incarnation I don't actually consider Shredder's daughter, since it's a detail that isn't actually on the film, so that doesn't bug me much. The newest version, however... like turning Falco into the Rat King, it feels like taking two good things--the new character and Karai as a concept--and making them weaker by joining them together.

ToTheNines
02-03-2013, 02:51 PM
Good point Bad. 4kids did at least wait till Shredder "died" and kept her as head of the Japanese Foot. The Nick toon basically created a new character. So she's really only Karai in name only, both as a character and in-universe.

I agree with the others though.

Not to mention Tokka and Rahzar were in a 1987 cartoon episode.

The characters I believe will never come back I would say Kluh from the Battle Nexus, Drako.

I think they'll stop having more than one Shredder like Tengu, Utrom and Cyber Shredder, they'll probably just have one Shredder per show from now on.

Also Don Turtelli, Pinky McFingers, Big Louie, Mad Dog McMutt.

What about Irma, Burne and Vernon? Not sure about them.

I know.. it's kinda like a big can of worms that I don't really want opened. But I'm sure the Nick writers have something up their sleeves the moment they decided to add more mutants AND give Raph a pet turtle. Similar to how they planned to make Falco into Rat King all along. We'll have to wait and see how it plays out when we get that far.

Just about any character could be picked up at a writer's whimsy and made interesting. It would be good to draw on the vast catalogue of characters not purely for nostalgias sake, but because they genuinely fit well into the tmnt world and make for interesting storylines.

To be fair many of them were obscure to begin with. Many Mirage-centric characters never would have seen the light of day in the 4kids series if it weren't for Peter Laird wanting to see them animated.

Many characters from the OT were designed to be one-shot characters to begin with, or are too silly to work in any other incarnation. Most of those Playmates mutant characters were basically just there to sell toys rather than be actual characters.

Many of the 4kids created characters, excluding Ch'rell, Hun and Bishop...were largely throwaway or not popular enough to get revived, like Touch and Go, the Battle Nexus characters, Quarry and the underground mutants, Garbageman, some of the FF characters, Khan, etc.

We're seeing the Neutrinos and General Traag/Rock Soldiers revived likely only because they were in the initial first season mini-series of the original toon, and thus everyone is familiar with them. Others like Metalhead, Slash, and possibly Rahzar/Tokka are just obvious fan-favorites. I expect Bebop/Rocksteady to debut in the Nick series in either Season 2 or 3 but again they're incredibly popular. The more obscure characters will probably never be brought back.

Totally this.

I never cared for Pimiko much (mostly because of her costume, and the fact that she had very little personality beyond that costume), but the fact remains -- they keep shoehorning Karai into the role of Shredder's daughter when there's already a character in the lore to fill that role.

Karai seems to be one of the few characters not to have been heavily promoted during the '90s fad to make the jump into a recurring staple of the series, and that's great, but I'm not crazy about how she's done it. She was the Shredder's daughter in the 4Kids series and it worked to an extent, since it helped streamline that story and she still kept a lot of elements from her Mirage incarnation. What little we saw of her in the 2007 film actually seemed fine. But with Nick and IDW that now seems to be the default, and she hardly bears similarity to the original character. The only remaining elements are ... what? She's a female Foot ninja? The Mirage Karai wasn't interesting because of any loyalty or family issues, or the novelty of being a woman fighting character. She was interesting because she was a competent, pragmatic, amoral hard-ass.

As for the rest of this thread, I'd say most people are dead-on with the characters least likely to be resurrected in the near future, but never say never. The world of comic-book franchises has shown us time and time again that there's no untouchable elements of the franchise. All we'd need is a writer with enough interest in a character, or who thinks they would add enough to the story, to bring them back. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see another Null or Complete Carnage down the line. Or hell, even a Silver, the gangster ape. Anything's game.

It really depends if the writers have fond memories of certain characters. I'm willing to bet someone at Nick had the Metalhead toy as a kid and wanted to bring the character back due to childhood nostalgia.

But the chances of Tempestra, Titanus, Shreeka, Beserko, etc? Probably very little. Same goes for all the obscure Mirage and 4kids characters.

Those are certianly among the least likely, but if the franchise is long-lasting and prolific enough?

I can't think of too many Batman characters that have gone untouched after one version, no matter how obscure. Some have even gone on to become major staples.

And even the Turtles characters you listed up there have unique designs and powers that might prompt their return if a writer needs something similar in the future. Really, I'd say the least likely are some of the one-off human villains. Anything else is very possible.

What if Spike is actually a girl and becomes Venus for one episode only to also give Raph a love interest, now we are going nuts with all the shipping any-ways.

It's silly I know, but the image of Raph just going. "Spike is a girl!?!?" is amusing to me.

And well, these two probably wont be forgotten at all, but guys.. so sorry to say it.
Bebop and Rocksteady wont ever come bacn in any incarnation, the turtle shows has now made it official tradition that each Shredder will get new unique hench-men.
The only two thus far being actually rea-curring is now Stockman and Karai, the rest, it's now officially tradition that they are new ones each time. Which is quite honestly a good thing.

Bebop and Rocksteady just wouldn't have fit into this show and how it's written, where we go deep into characters and character development, also among the villains, I can't wait for the show to go far enough for the villains to do more stuff on their own and do things against or with each other, Stockman for one, can't wait to see where he is going to go, two things seems to be consistent with his incarnations.
A; he is only a unwilling participant, thus easily turns on the Shredder, and do so.
B; He never catches a break and just falls further and further into shame :ohwell:

So well, Rocksteady and bebop wont be forgotten as long as there are people whom grew up with the eighties show, how-ever.. will the new young genneration, the teens and children whom watches the show now, have any idea whom they are?... probably not.

Bebop and Rocksteady wont ever come bacn in any incarnation, the turtle shows has now made it official tradition that each Shredder will get new unique hench-men

They already returned in the IDW comics. The chances of Nick never using them in the show is slim, they bought the TMNT IP with the intent of re-capturing the popularity of the OT. They know good and well the villains at the time were the reason the show was also the success it was as much as the Turtles.

Bebop/Rocksteady don't even have to work directly for Shredder, they can be in charge of the Purple Dragons, who have been less important ever since Xever got mutated.

Bebop and Rocksteady just wouldn't have fit into this show and how it's written, where we go deep into characters and character development, also among the villains, I can't wait for the show to go far enough for the villains to do more stuff on their own and do things against or with each other

Bebop and Rocksteady are comedic villains in a show that's practically a comedy. I think those two would be absolutely hilarious with the talented writing of the Nick writers.

In fact the only reason we haven't seen them in Season 1 is because Nick wants to build up a new universe first with a mix of new and old characters but some are being held over, same reason Casey Jones is not in Season 1. I would be very surprised to not see Nick bring back Bebop/Rocksteady for a cartoon aimed at children.

And as I pointed out, IDW already brought them back.

Also Don Turtelli, Pinky McFingers, Big Louie, Mad Dog McMutt.

What about Irma, Burne and Vernon? Not sure about them.

And Tony Vivaldi. Irma will hopefully return, being the more "normal" side of April's life. The return of Burne and Vernon would probably require April being a reporter again, since I can't imagine any other works for Burne and Vernon.

There's no one I can think of that I would like to see more of, or see again.

Even if I'm not interested in seeing more Bebop and Rocksteady, it's easy to tweak characters to fit stories of a different tone, while still being "themselves". If the rhino and the hog were brought back, they don't have to be quite as stupid and silly as they were in the OT, but just be refined to fit the tone of a new series, while still not being known for his intelligence.

My personal favourite example is 4Kids Stockman. Even though it's not literally true that the OT was an influence on his character, I think he works well as a more "serious" take on the situation that FW Baxter was in, with some of the same personality flaws, though nowhere near as exaggerated.

I don't know if IDW Krang is another example, since I haven't read those comics yet.

They're recognizably similar, but fit the tone of their respective series. The same could be done with whatever fan favourite somebody wants to bring back for a new type of TMNT.

What about Irma, Burne and Vernon? Not sure about them.

Irma was strongly hinted at in a 'blink and you'll miss it' cameo a few episodes back in the 2k12 series, and given this week's episode takes places at April's high school, there's the possibility Irma could show up.

As for the other two, no clue.

Also, I think it'd be redundant for Spike to become Slash in this iteration, because
the 'pet turning into a mutant' plot will be done with a pet cockroach Donnie gets in a later episode, as said by TPTB at a con a while back, if I recall. I dunno about you, but I'd rather that plot be done once.

Would be funny if Slash did show up and it's alluded that he mutated from Spike, only to have it be a complete red herring and Spike is perfectly normal/fine and it was some other turtle that mutated instead, tho'.

I like the Slash idea Meta Ray Mek.

I have a feeling that most characters associated with either Image or Next Mutation are destined to stay under its only intrepetation mainly because of the high number of people that dislike those two versions. I personally like to ignore them myself. Any good qualities can be taken in forms of other characters from there on.

Thanks. I'm of a mind to think the 'red herring' approach would be the better outcome, since most people are convinced that Spike will mutate into Slash at some point or another. Having the complete opposite happen would be a nice subversion, but eh, s'only IMO.

To an extent, I agree that the universal dislike of certain concepts/characters will prevent them from being used in the 2k12 canon. But I'm the type of person who thinks that an idea with a bad execution can be made better with the right adjustments.

Like the Dr. Quease character from 'Next Mutation', to use a really obscure example. In this case, he could be a purely 'show within a show' character that hosts a science television program that's a more demented riff on Mr. Wizard or Bill Nye, and have that be to Donnie what 'Space Heroes' is to Leo (or if it's a one-time thing, Mikey could be really into the show and Donnie points out all the flaws in the show's logic and is basically a killjoy for Mikey, hehe). That could be kind of fun, and a way of reusing/improving upon something from bad source material. And the casual viewer will never know that it's a call-back to 'Next Mutation'.

But that's just me. I'm a sucker for that kind of refurbishing type stuff when it comes to multiple canons. =T

The two appearances after season one in "The Gang's All Here" and "Once Upon A Time Machine" indicated Hi-Five was the leader of the gang. Hun never was nearly as fun or interesting as Bebop adn Rocksteady and he had a little more character development. He just seemed like a punk that got lucky. If he isn't a punk with a twist like the two henchmutants I am personally not interested.

Hun was one of the best characters from the 4kids series. He was Tatsu with an actual personality and backstory.

The way they continually developed him from being Shredder's loyal guard to taking over the Purple Dragons and turning them from street criminals to an organized crime outfit was great. Also loved the interactions between him Karai and Baxter.

Likewise the episode, "Hun on the Run," from Season 3 was one of the best episodes of the 4kids show.

Ah.. didn't know that. Turtle comics doesn't really come all the way to Denmark.

And quite honestly, even if they did. I think the only comic that actually really counts for being able to change things in the show is the original mirage, and the only things that will change the public perception of the turtles and which characters belong to them, are the tv-shows and supposed movies.

And there I have to say, the only ones thus far being re-curring are following.

The four main turtles and Splinter
April
Casey
The Shredder
The Krang
Baxter Stockman
And Karai

That's it! the six character aside from the the turtles and Splinter any new interpretation has to have now to call itself a turtles representation.
We can even with a bit of tweaking saying. "okay only five." as Karai doesn't have to appear. Maybe soon after the current show she is intergrated enough that that has changed, but that's first now then.
And maybe, maybe not, the Rat king with Leatherhead should have been on this list to, it's really all up for debate.

Every-body else is exspendable, any interpretation can feel free to make new versions merely based on them but the new faces aren't really them. It's really up to who-ever makes the show.

As for Hun.. daww, there's really people out there that doesn't like him? I thought he was a brilliant character.
I admit at first I didn't like him, he just seemed like a dumb hench-men to me, whom just as well could have been nameless, could have called him. "Big muscle guy with tatoo." and it wouldn't have made any difference to me.
But! then the show moved forward, and suddenly Hun gained more and more character, more personality, he acted like his own entity and.. He is not dumb! he is incredible capable. Just as Raph at some point said. "the purple dragons are useless without him." and I believed him, which means, with Hun the purple dragons were actually a genuine force to be reconned with.
His interactions with Karai, Stockman and Shredder were all great, there was great dynamic there, he had a genuine character, I really grew to like him over time, and he seemed like a scary threat in his own right. "Oh dang, Hun." was a phrase often uttered from me while watching the show.

Will he show up again? probably not, it's time to hand over the mantle to the next one, and our new Hun is called.. Dogpound actually. I mean think about it, loyal to Shredder and his number one genneral, is now huge as a train, and even took over the purple dragons after Xever was rendered incapable. Hmm, Dogpound is the new Hun!
Actually looking at them side by side, right now I like Hun better, but then again, Dogpound didn't have as much time to establish himself, so we'll see.

Also the end of the RPG episode is the most worthwhile thing to come out of "Back To the sewers." that was just brilliant!
Hun is a hardcore RPG Gamer! how can you not love that? :D

Scratch was a very obscure character who appeared in one videogame that most never saw him in and a "bastardized version" of him was Hallocat in Archie in one crappy issue nobody liked.

Chien Khan is a bit more prominent, but again the Archie books are now rather obscure to the people who didn't grow up with them in the 90's.

TMNT Radical Rescue on Gameboy was the least selling Turtle game on that system, wasn't it? Also most people never made it through the game due to the high difficulty and maze-like world. I didn't even know Scale Tail was in the game until a few years ago.

And Scratch is more known due to the rarity of his action figure than anything else. No appearance in the cartoon, the Archie version of him was practically a different character, and one appearance in one of the less popular Konami videogames from the classic era.

Seriously, everyone will always remember characters like Rahzar/Tokka simply because everyone rewatches TMNT II. People will remember Bebop/Rocksteady because they got 150 episodes of screentime. People remember Slash because he's being brought back by IDW.

Now Groundchuck and Dirtbag could go either way, I could see them either joining the "obscure" character pile or remaining a bit more well known, due to the Turtleoids 1-hour episode, their second episode in Season 7, and the TMNT III game on NES.

Kinda doubt IDW cares if the characters are toy-etic enough to use. However, that might affect Nick since they're closely tied with Playmates.

IDW isn't Mirage, they use characters that could be popular with kids. Remember their comics are just as easily targeting 10 year old boys as much as adults.

How many kids read adult Spiderman/Batman comics rather than the cartoon-adaption comics? IDW is well aware some kids are going to see their comics on shelves and pick them up.

Seeing a bunch of mutant characters and Shredder and everyone fighting the turtles attracts kids.

Kinda beg to differ there. They use whatever characters they feel would make a good story. I doubt they'll be making toys of Apolex, Hob or the Neutrinos any time soon. In this case the IDW comics are the 'adult Spiderman/Batman' comics for now, while eventually they will be making comics based on the new cartoon which will be shorter one-shot adventures for the kids. The IDW comics (as well as some of their other series like Ghostbusters and the Crow) are for people our age nostalgia about the 80's.

Most kids with short attention spans aren't gonna care about a comic that has a lot of talking and drawn-out pacing in which not much happens in that particular issue due to massive decompression. As comic fans, we're more invested into waiting for the story and characters to develop, and are used to the 'for the trades' decompression... but most kids will most likely ditch that and go for the Nick TMNT comics with one-shot adventures with the Turtles fighting Karai, Snakeweed and Spider Bytes.

Not really, though most people here are at least old enough to remember the 80's series (the forum and website IS named after the Shredder and Krang's hideout from the 80's cartoon after all) so it automatically makes most people here late 20-mid 30's. I am kinda surprised fans of the new show find this place though. I doubt they'd be looking for a place named after a hideout that isn't even mentioned in the new show yet.

See, that's why you should never be rude on the enternet, you have no idea of knowing if the person on the other side just happens to be an eleven year old.

And in that case.. Snakeweed I would never have guessed. you are very well formulated, which means, you are one smart kid. I don't think any-one here would have guessed your true age if you hadn't told us.

And well, I myself am in my early twenties, but because I am from Denmark, all Tv-shows were belated a few years and those my TV-channels bought and dubbed were syndicated multiple times, so I still had them years after they went off the US channels, and I remember the 2k3 show.

snakeweed101, I have to agree with Coola Yagami. Most of us who grew up with the 80s series usually find this website since this website is named "Technodrome Forums". I guess we find a bit surprising when we encounter members younger than their teenage years (less than 13), because we grew up in a time (during elementary school) where the internet had not existed or was incredibly slow (dial-up connection). Therefore, finding out information about "older shows" was very limited for us and could only watch them through VHS and not through the internet, DVDs, or cellphones.

We're always glad to have new and young TMNT fans here, but hopefully this awareness of young members...**looking at the "grownups" of this forum** will encourage a few other members to behave themselves from now on... LOL

Armaggon has so much potential but has had so little exposure. He needs attentio. More than any overlooked villain now that Krang is being put to good use.

Big Louie would be a good Godfather type character suited for the comicsm He is better than the generic mob bosses and does not neccessarily have a goofy cliche with him. Never cared for mob characters but this guy screams potential.

I sure hope The Punk Frogs have life in them. They are my favorite allies. A fun yet if used right perfect back up team.

Beserko, only appeared in Get Shredder in the '87 cartoon but was overshadowed. He had a backstory that could be flushed out and connection to Krang. Heck,an IDW appearance would be perfect. He carried a habdheld game and I think would have satisfied more fans if he was the lead villain opposed to Dregg.

There are a few others but I believe the four above have the most potential that are overlooked and may not return in some form.

Personally, I see some modern characters as reeinventions of older characters. For example, In my personal cannon I consider 'Old Hob's' full name he gave himself to be Scratch Hobson, Mikey (in his Nick Tradition of naming or renaming things) calls Alopex 'Ninjara' (a comic booky name born from his love of comic books) The monkey Dr. Rockwell mutated into is Sgt. Bananas, Don's pet roach becomes Scumbug, Spiderbytez last name as a human was Toxem, and Snakeweed was the mutant plant monster from season two of the OT. :P

I can't help but realize how many forgettable characters the original toon had, or how many were decent for one episode but I have no desire to see again. All those one-shot human characters both good guys and bad, and some of those one-off aliens:

- Skaarg and Dementor from "Convicts from Dimension X"

- The Starchild, and the alien guy after him (Loved this episode though)

- Weasel from the Season 7 finale

- Captain Dredd who worked with Groundchuck and Dirtbag in Season 7

- MegaVolt from Season 8

- Titanus and his mutants

- The Galaxians

- Krakus from the future

- Ray the fish mutant

- The Snake mutant from, "Snakes Alive"

- Captain Coolick

- Lord Dregg's minions aside from Mung

etc.

A lot of these characters I don't see ever being used again. The original toon had a lot of these one-shot or odd characters that people tend to forget.

Like the characters introduced for Red Sky, they came at a waning phase of a series, and even I don't know all the names of them off the top of my head (Torbin Zixx, Aramzedo anyone?) The Dark Turtles are a possible exce;)ption.

It may not count, but I highly doubt Baxterfly is going to be used as a concept again. Stories w/ newer versions of the character always draw on the Mirage comics, and I can't see them going backwards, especially when they are avoiding re-using other mutant antagonists.

I don't mind, since Baxter is more interesting as a human, and this way he's not tied to any specific personality archetype. FW Baxterfly is fun, but as that specific character.

And of course, anyone specific to FW Baxter ain't getting re-used either, so no alien computer or Barney Stockman. I liked their dynamics or potential dynamics too, but don't mind seeing 'em fade out.

Otherwise...definitely not Quarry, Stonebiter and Razorfist, which is a bit of a shame, since they broke away from the common formula of obvious animal mutants, and Quarry was one of the few female mutants.

Hm, never say never. Both the IDW comics and Nick cartoon have heavy influences from the original toon so we don't know what the future holds. They probably want Baxter to stay human for some time but it is quite possible the mutant fly concept will return in the future.

Nick's Baxter already pretty much did the whole robot/cyborg armor thing already, so there's not much else to take him.

Otherwise...definitely not Quarry, Stonebiter and Razorfist, which is a bit of a shame, since they broke away from the common formula of obvious animal mutants, and Quarry was one of the few female mutants.

Again, in your opinion. It would be just like me saying, Ace Duck is a fan favorite just because he was a favorite toy and character growing up. I still love Ace Duck and would love to see him in another incarnation but at this point it's just a wish.

I love Mutagen Man returning, but as a kid, I was the only one within my friends who liked him, same with Muckman. But I would never definitely say without certainty which character is a fan favorite because otherwise it's just speculative and presumptuous.

Only because Casey and April taking care of a kid makes everyone seem older than they ought to be. I actually would not be surprised if some version showed a future version of everyone and Shadow was involved.

It's an interesting character concept, it's just that you can't explore the character without having everyone in the series be "too old" based on the "Unwritten Rules of Comic Book Storytelling", which clearly state no main characters be shown as older than 30 or else become too hard for the target audience to relate to. So I think she'll be used again, but only in a "flash-forward/possible future" scenario.

I think a lot of the secondary villains from the 2003 series will be forgotten; a lot of them were fairly generic and left little lasting impression.

I kinda feel like they put all their initial ideas towards Shredder and then Ch'Rell, and once they were mostly done with that angle, there wasn't as much effort put into the rest of the villains.

Not a unique problem to that show, though. The OT mostly had them fight Shredder, Rat King, The Fly, and after that, a bunch of guys in suits.

When you think about it.

Most TMNT characters wont be used again.

For every Leatherhead, Baxter and Karai you get a bunch more Kenos, Lord Dreggs, Bonesteels, Garbage men, Mary Bones and Kermas.

Or in other words, Sturgeon's Revelation.

"90% of everything is crud, but the other 10% is worth dying for."

90% of TMNT characters have fallen into obscurity, and will eventually descend further and further into the annals of history, some perhaps even falling to the mists of time. For every much-loved Mona Lisa, there are several Justins, Halfcourts, and Howies that will gradually fade away, never to be heard from again. Even though some may be dissapointed that the likes of Armaggon have yet to be witnessed once more, instead witnessing the likes of Biotroid trotting across the screen and on toy shelves, one day, when a devoted fan becomes part of the process, they will likely return, as the dozens of Biotroids, Dumpjumpers, and Raptors fade even further into the darkness of time. In the end, only the best of the characters live on.

I wonder if we'll ever see characters form the Red Sky seasons again. Dregg, Carter, Mung Titanus and his mutants, Krakus, the aliens from that episode in season 8, etc. could be brought back in some way or another with a bit of rewriting.

Hmmm, well I don't think they're really going to fall into obscurity but I believe Bebop and Rocksteady, despite their prevelence in the most popular TMNT cartoon, has more or less started to enter the B-list of characters.

They were ignored for the movies, the 4Kids cartoon ignored them (for good reasons), the IDW series takes 25 issues to give them a proper introduction and the Nick cartoon introduces them towards the end of season 2 when there's already a ton of stuff going on.

I wonder if we'll ever see characters form the Red Sky seasons again. Dregg, Carter, Mung Titanus and his mutants, Krakus, the aliens from that episode in season 8, etc. could be brought back in some way or another with a bit of rewriting.

If the Punk Frogs were to be used in some format again, they could do what playmates did with the Genghis and Napoleon toys/figs, and make them different from each other. Beef out thier traits and personalities, splash out a more in depth origin story, It could work:ohwell:

Yeah the Punk Frogs are pretty much the laziest idea ever. Say what you will about Mondo Gecko and his meaninglessness (I know I have and I might be the only one here) but at least there wasn't four of him running around.

Bebop and Rocksteady have returned in the two big series going on now and you don't think they're important?

Well not exactly. It's not that I think they're unimportant it's just that they seem like as important as Shredder, Karai, Krang etc. That if they were removed you wouldn't really notice in the long run.

If we are to compare the IDW comics to let's day the Spider-Man comics in terms of how important the characters are, Shredder is like the Green Goblin, Krang is like Doc Ock, April is like MJ, Karai is like Venom, Old Hob is like Lizard and Bebop and Rocksteady are like Scorpion and Shocker.

bebop and rocksteady have been in every series except for Mirage and the movies. You can technically say they appeared in 4kids too because of Turtles Forever.

They were in the original cartoon, Turtles Forever, Archie, Nick and IDW.

That's 5 series out of a total of 7 unique universes.

Yeah sure but the problem with Bebop and Rocksteady in the first cartoon is that they have very little purpose, they're the useless henchmen to a pair of rather incompetent villains.

As for the Archie series, they're again kind of pointless except Murphy realised that and dropped them 13 issues in to be nudists on an alien planet. They were given a short comeback but essentially had no reason to back and were just back to nudism on the savannah planet again.

Turtles Forever, it would be weird if they weren't in that.

And the IDW and Nick series, I don't know. Maybe they have big plans for them in the pipeline and if they do I will take back my suspicions but right now it mostly looks they're there to bring in the casually nostalgic.

A bit off-topic but I don't think we're gonna see a comical take on Raphael ever again. Sure, FW has the most memorable legacy of all the TMNT incarnations but younger generations view him as the "angry one" while Michelangelo is the "funny one". It's quite a shame since I'd love to see Raphael being the witty one again. Man, it's kinda awkward how Paulsen is in a TMNT cartoon voicing Donatello instead of Raphael. If someone had told me this a decade ago I'd call them wackos.

What's the point of having Dogpound and Fishface, then you can have Bebop and Rocksteady (with much more tough and deadly side, of course).

1.Lobster Suprise (I think that's his name). Only showed in one magazine issue.
2.Archeloga: A boss from TMNT 3:Mutant Nightmare. Another mutant turtle created by Bishop.
3.Fishsticks and all of the other little figure buddy characters: Only in the original line and nothing else.
4.Terrorpin: Aside from a few Mirage issues he had never appeared anywhere else.
5.Hamato Hana: Simple, only in Mirage and doesn't fit into most of established canon.
6.Izanagi and Izanami: Only in Archie and weren't important anyway.
7.Deadbolt: Only in one Mirage issue and never seen again.
8.Go-Komodo, King Komodo, and Pimiko: Only in Image and have never been acknowledged outside of those comics.
9.Chet: Only in 4 Mirage issues and doesn't fit in any of the current origins of the Turtles.
10.Captain Hoffman: Only in one OT episode.
I have at least a dozen more.

I think that Eric Sachs will fade away into obscurity soon, given the negative reception to his film. Also, most of the Mutants of the Week from the Nick series.

I fear Tokka will fade away with Nick deciding to split him and Rahzar up and just bringing Rahzar in alone. I fear we will never see Tokka again:cry:

I think Tokka is redundant when you have Slash. How many evil mutant turtles do you need?

Obscure and likely never to come back is Shredder's replacement from the late 90s - Dragonlord/Warlord Komodo. I liked the idea of a new enemy for the turtles, but both versions of this character (from Next Mutation and Image Comics) were sadly underdeveloped.

I loved the Image version, which had a mutation "sickness" that caused him to become a monitor lizard from time to time. The turtle's DNA would've provided a cure for him, and that alone could have provided a lot of story potential if they'd actually followed through with any of it.

I am with you. I would like to see Tokka again. And I like his realtionship with Rahzar in 1987 series. It's a shame that they were only in one episode

One of the Nick games will use Tokka, and the producers have also teased him.

Phew, looking back at this years later is a fair bit odd, given how many were revived...

By now, the only ones I can see not coming back are:

* Redundant characters: Lotus Blossom, Pimiko, Ninjara, Traximus, and Lugnut. To a lesser extent also Starlee, Chaplin, etc. It’s more likely to see Karai, Alopex, Zeno, and Hun. Yet at the same time, Nick has both created a Bloodsucker (who has legal red tape surrounding him) substitute and used Wyrm in very different roles. Same with Slash alongside Tokka. I could see the redundant characters retooled to work and be more distinct.
* Scrappies, like Venus, Carter, Cody, Eric Sachs, etc. The hatred of these characters makes people cautious about using them again, outside of some nods (Carter’s Mutant form in the Chris Bradford show, Venus on the side of the van). Then again, they have pulled out Dregg and Vernon Fenwick from the vault. (Though PD probably sealed the latter’s coffin).
* Very minor characters like Hokum Hare, Dumpjumper, Thrashmor, etc. Self-explanatory. Though there may be the occasional Princess Tribble.
* Mirage characters that could clash with Nickelodeon mandates and current lore, like Hamato Hana and Tang Amaya.
* Characters with rights issues, such as the Golden Harvest, Konami, and Image casts. Yet they apparently got the rights to Tatsu a while back, so there may be hope of Aska just yet.

Now, what about which current characters will fade? I suppose Eric Sachs is an obvious one.
