[Shredded]

So, we have discussed some of the designs for this new show.

Talked about Splinter, Karai the Rat King ext.

Shredder were mostly kept in the shadows, in fact.. we still didn't have a full frontal picture of him where he stood in the light, he is always presented kind of shadowy, which is sort of cool.
How do we like this new design with the armor, apparently he is also bald, we saw that in the first episode. And then there is the burn wound on his face, clearly his right eye is damaged.

I got one question though, and I admit that is the reason I had for starting that this threat.

Do you think that face burn is actually from his fight with Splinter that time Splinters home burned down????

Anyway I like his design. Plus he's human and not an utrom this time, thank God.

It's obvious the burn marks are from the fire as I don't know where else he would get them. As for his design, I like it a lot. It's awesome.

Well, it's a neat little detail to put in any-way! they didn't have to, none of the other Shredders had any burn marks, or were bald or any-thing like that.
Maybe that's another reason to bear a grudge.. not only did Hamato steal his woman, he also took his looks, damn you Hamato Yoshi! ... or erh.. heh.

It does though make sense to me that the Shredder would have battle scars from some-where, he is the ultimate ninja isn't he? he fought himself up to that title, proving how badass he is by beating every-one else didn't he?

This dude have freaking battle-scars, that's just bloody awesome!

Boy Hamato was sure lucky to get out of that fire with no scars what so ever then.. but then again, it took him a year, maybe two, to be turned into a rat after that, so I guess it doesn't really matter :/

I also like that he actually have a purple cape when he is inside, have any of you noticed the long flowing purple cape? that's really neat, really gives him a more refined look some-how, as.. yeah this is the evil over-lord of this world, he got the cape, show him some respect.

So what really happened?


1. Did he came to Yoshi's home (when he's gone), killed the woman, took the child and burned the house? But then that wouldn't explain how he got the scar and burnt hair.



2. Maybe he fought with Yoshi? If yes, who won? I assume that if:

a) Shredder won. He took the baby, killed the woman and burnt the house. But why would he even leave Yoshi alive? It's easier for Shredder to just kill him off as well.

b) Yoshi won. But if Shredder got defeated, how could he have taken the child, killed the woman and burnt down the house? That's impossible under Yoshi's might.


Ahh, so many questions.

Again, pay attention to the flashback in Rise part 2. Shredder knocks some candles over while attacking Splinter. They were probably just so wrapped up in the fight and didn't realize the girls were in danger.

They probably get separated by the collapsing building and Shredder comes across Miwa on his way out.

The show quite honestly is pretty vague about preciesly what happened.

The information Splinter gives us is following;

Him and Shredder used to be friends, back when they just called themselves by name. Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki.

The love of a woman, Teng-shen came between them. They presumable both loved her.

She was married to Hamato, how-ever if she was all-ready married to Hamato when him and Oroku first met. Or if they were friends before Teng-shen even entered the picture, is never specified.
I personally like to think that they were friends first and Teng-shen first appeared later.

At some point Oroku Saki insulted Teng-shen right in front of Hamato and Hamato got very angry, going head-first into battle, based only on his anger.
If this is the fight that ended in Hamatos house burning down, or if it's merely their first real fight that started their more serious war, is not specified.

Some kind of fight happened, where Oroku Saki invaded Hamatos home intending to kill Hamato. The two fought and while they fought they by accident knocked over some candles so the house caught fire.

The only visuals we see here is that the house is on fire while they are fighting, Teng-shen is being caught in a corner of the burning house holding her baby. And then a picture of Hamato being out-side of the house, holding Teng-Shen in his arms, so she is presumably dead by that point.

How it preciesly happened, is not specified.

My guess is that Hamato and Oroku Saki fought, the candles were knocked over and the house caught fire, Teng-shen got trapped in a corner and couldn't get out due to the fight in front of her, Hamato got knocked out cold by the Shredder (he could have been distracted cause his wife were in life danger, that's an easy distraction right there.) the building fell on top of Teng-shen and killed her but not the baby, which Shredder took and left, assuming Hamato had died being caught in the burning building, where-after Hamato woke and digged up Teng-shens body, to escape from the burning house with her body, seeing it burn down and assume Miwa was taken by the flames. Where-after he was forced to flee, because the Shredder would kill Hamato the instant he found out that Hamato was still alive.
The Shredder could have gotten the burn woods while escaping with the baby, or digging her out.

But honestly, the show is genuinly very vague about this! it could be an interesting episode to actually tell this entire story.. an exspensive one due to all the new computer models you would have to build, but an interesting one!

But I guess, vague background story also leaves for lots of fan interpretation, so that's not entirely a bad thing.

The important thing just is that the Shredder has genuine motivation to go after Splinter, that they have shared history, it could turn into some real emotional episodes in the future. And kind of great to have a Shredder whom doesn't want to just take over the world, he just have a personal grudge to carrie out.

Nick picked a winner with their Shredder. The extra black shadows give this Shredder a more menacing appearance along with the adjustable blades on his hands that can suddenly slide out. Some flesh visible on his upper arms and back shoulders gives it a human touch to prove that there is a soft spot amid the fury. I also like the circular shield strapped with cords on his back, along with the large black belt with some Japanese character showing that he's a master in martial arts.

I'm just glad this Shredder is human for a change. I did not care much for the Utrom angle in the 4Kids series.

I think he looks cool, but he sounds like a black guy. Way too darth vader for me. Nice design though, I prefer the human shredder too.

Really? Sounds like a deep voiced English first language person to me. The voice actor just happens to be, but still. He should have had a oriental accent though just like Yoshi does as they came from the same region, did they not? I never understood that with this style of origin.

Personally I love the design of Shredder. He looks awesome and is actually a threat. His voice, though not region appropriate sounds genuinely menacing so I think it fits.

And hey you know, it's quite possible for people from other countries to cover up their accents with more approbriate accents.
It takes training, some are more skilled than others to do it (I've tried and failed for years to cover my danish accent up with an Oxford accent.) But it is possible!

And it is honestly very cool that they got a genuine asien, with a genuine accent to play Splinter, as well as a genuine asien for Karai. That was pretty neat.

And well, this Shredders voice is pretty damn badass, just.. whoah.

Also, deep badass voices seems to most often just come from black people, they usually have a deeper baritone to them than the usual white guy, they do have distinct voices, you can often tell from the voice whether a person is black or not, cause it just is that half a tone deeper, which is honestly pretty cool. If you ask me, black people have awesome voices! some of the best singing voices out there.
No one can sing gospel like the blacks, we whites should just weep and go home when it comes to that kind of music X)

They could also have done it even as a nod to the original cartoon in that the Shredder's VA, James Avery (Fresh Prince's Uncle Phil!) was black. Of course, I'm probably just reaching here, but I loved his version of SHredder and I really think our present Shredder's VA is good as well.
