Is Tmnt in the movie universe? Some say yes, some say no. What universe do you think it's in. I actually think besides the toes, it fits well into the nick one, as long as shredder dies, and some other things happen.

I personally consider it stand alone, too many contradictions with the movies for me.

Nick universe? You could have said such a thing before Karai's debut. That doesn't work because she hadn't met the Turtles yet in the 07 movie, and there's only going to be more and more contradictions as the show goes on.

Yeah, plus the TMNT turtle designs are a lot older and looks taller/longer whilst Nick's looks like they're very young, fresh out of puberty teens (maybe pre-puberty for Mikey lmao).

Personally, I put TMNT into the movie timeline continuity. It's flawed, yes, but "friends you can choose, but not your family" (sorry that's just Winters rambling, ha).

There is a few tidbits with movie references in mind, such as the trophy room at the end. where we can see Shredders helmet and the time scepter. But Splinter also have no mangled ear as he have in the other live-action movies.

And the tie-in comics to the movie, does make the world more fantastical then what they are in the Live action universe, featuring Triceratons and the Ancient One.

pretty sure the turtles know of Karai in the TMNT movie, at least by name and appearance.

No they don't.

TMNT (2007) takes place in the film universe, but it's open ended enough that you can interpret it however you like. It has its own look and feel, but also some elements from 2k3 and even some of its own unique aspects. In the end I think it's best to look at it as the 4th film taking place after the events in TMNT 1, 2 and 3 -- though I guess you can completely ignore 3 if you want and pretend it takes place after 2. That's what I do :P

Afterall, Superman Returns is meant as a sequel to Superman 1 and 2 and pretty much ignores superman 3 and 4. So this wouldn't really be a new approach.

Pretty sure everyone agrees that the 2014 film will be a total reboot though.

I say film universe because , the trophy room, it fits in easily with the other movies, defiantly not 2k3, the karai thing causes too many continuity errors.

Honestly, the trophy room scene has more Mirage references than anything else.

Like what? I don't remember much from the trophy room just the foot mask, shredder helmet, pizza box?

Mouser foot, Triceraton helmet, TCRI attack bot. Plus they never acquired Shredder's helmet in the movies. It was crushed after the first one then he made it all spikey in SotO then got buried.

I need to watch it again, how do you suppose they got all that stuff? Off-screen adventures?

It's just an easter egg scene. Which is why it cracks me up that people point to it as the main connection between TMNT and the original trilogy.

It was meant to be a loose continuation of anything. As I said, some kids who saw the movie in 2007 probably thought it was a continuation of the 4kids series.

They purposely made it ambiguous enough that you knew it wasn't a reboot but it could have been a loose continuation of anything. Of course there are going to be contradictions but it doesn't really matter.

Personally I used to like it being a continuation of the movies, now I like thinking of it as being the future of the Nick Turtles when they're all 18-19 and April is an adult. Its actually scary how similar April looks in the movie to her Nick incarnation.

I definitely remember Kevin Munroe saying they didn't want to pick one iteration, and intended TMNT to be a sequel to everything. I'll try to find it...

if you watch the movie with the commentary on, once he gets to the Trophy Room scene, he explains pretty much what you just said, Chrisdude. I remember him talking about the fact that the crack in the ooze canister splits the second letter, making it purposely impossible to distinguish whether it says "TCRI" or "TGRI".

That fact alone leads me to think that if anything, this movie is only a spiritual sequel, set in it's own universe.

It has to be set in its own universe. April and Casey both seemed much older by the end of III than they did in TMNT.

Its probably just the CG, both April and Casey were adults in TMNT.

You can either take it as being part of the live action movie-verse or its own standalone universe.

Nolan said that was his intention. A universe were all the major events such as ecountering the Shredder, Mousers, Triceratons, time travel had happened.

I don't think there's anything that outright contradicts the live action pictures. Any minor differences fall into the same ball park of differences between those movies themselves. The differering designs are similar to recasting April some of the voice cast and using different animatronics each movie, even the interiors of Channel 3 were different in the first two movies. The ooze cannister was different in the first two movies also so it doesn't suprise that it's different again the 2007 flick. On the flipside we have Shredder's helmet as in the first movie and the time sceptre from the the third. Those are direct nods to the movie continuity.

As I said you can take it as part of the established movie-verse or its own thing entirely.

It definitely isn't part of the Nicktoon. It wasn't even concieved back then and while the movie seems to be a big influence on the show we don't know how the show will pan out to theorise if it could fit anwhere in that continuity.

I was so sure Leo says Karais name under the Yeti encounter, but of course. I can't find that specific clip on youtube.

TMNT is my son's favorite turtle movie and from what I can remember(though I can be proven wrong if I am) the turtles don't know Karai.

Anyway I like to think of it as in its own universe.

Karai recognized Leonardo in the fight with Bigfoot. She looked at him and said, "You!" She also wore a mask, then. Leo was asking who they were working for, since Shredder was dead, but I didn't get the impression he knew who she was.

Strongly disagree.

The only people who say "Karai" the whole movie are Winters and Karai herself.

Total brain fart on my part. I'm putting it down to lack of sleep and too much debating Batman and Nolan North being in the movie. Before I lose credibility on this issue I'll make it clear I mean Kevin Munroe. Munroe, Munroe, MUNROE.

Strongly disagree.

The way it was worded in the press release of Nick acquiring the property it seemed that the cgi flick was an influence on them doing a CGI series. I would argue the "look" of the series is a lot like the movie, the idea of them having very obvious different heights, faces and builds also seems to be a carry over from the movie as well as the domesticated family vibe.

Not saying it doesn't have other influences, both in previous TMNT incarnations and other sources but I'd say the movie was a big influence on the series.

Didn't Leo say "Karai" as well? During the training/construction site.

The Rat King destroyed Venus in an online tale around 2000, and the four guys just don't understand or care about her disappearance. That was the best thing to come out of the dark era. It can't be continous with Mirage since the Volume 4 warriors came after Karai was loyal with Leonardo, and April/Casey were married by that point.

That said, it is presumable that TMNT takes place following The Next Mutation since its pretty clear from another discussion that it continues the universe of the first three movies. Kirby just decided to activate his CGI crystal while the Turtles were trapped in the online world.
