8D So I figure I might as well do this whole introduction thing. I'm Mel. I'm 22 years old. I joined up on the forum because I need somewhere to express the explosive love I've recently started building up for TMNT since I caught the 2012 version on TV. I grew up in the 90's, so I remember being exposed to TMNT when I was young. I watched the older movies and the television show, but I can't say I remember those as well as I do the games. The games are what I remember. Particularly this one on the game boy advance which was in black and white and so damn hard and afdbae I'll stop rambling (I'm talkative. I'm sure you've noticed. If you get to the end of all my ramblings, I'll give you a cookie).

So yes. I've recently hit on the new series, loved it to bits. And when I love something, I usually go a bit OCD and start trying to get my hands on all related media....So um... to date, I've read some of the comics and watched all seven seasons of the old 2003 version (Seasons 1-4, those fight scenes <3). A part of me just loves the characterization of all the turtles, but I'm a bit biased towards Donnie, being a science nerd as a kid and sort of being able to relate with always being labelled 'The Smart One' (Hahaha, lookitwhatIdidthere). Plus his new iteration just makes me laugh so much. He's such a dork, it's ridiculous XD

And um... That's that, I think. I decided to join because if I don't I will literally explode. I got a lot of friends who are into cartoon culture, but I've yet to convert any of them to TMNT and I feel like I need to share the love with people who know what I'm talking about. SO HI. I'LL STOP TALKING NOW.
Here's that cookie I promised <3 Hope to chat with you all soon!

Welcome! I love the Nick show too. You are in good company here :D

Seems like a large portion of the "new" Nick fans lean towards Donny, not that I blame anyone, since he is one of the best written characters on the show. IMO I think Raph is getting the short end of the stick so far, but the show is still young.

You probably don't remember the OT that well since you were born in 1990/early 1991 and by the time you were in first grade, the cartoon was ending and reruns on USA network were over. And that's the 2003 game that you presumed difficult; its a challenge but its a fun game. You should check out the orignal Fred Wolf series since lots of elements have returned in IDW/Nick, and you'll enjoy the old school animation. Welcome to the drome!

@Pannoni - Hahah, like I said XD it was a very small part of my childhood and one I regretfully never paid much attention too. I was a power rangers kid. I remember watching a lot of that. And Rocky and Bullwinkle. And Smurfs.... I could name a dozen more but my memories of what exactly transpired during the show completely eludes me. All I remember is watching them XD I'm a little hesitant to pick up the '87 TMNT. The 80's wasn't a great decade for animation. I dunno if the animation major in me can take it. Give me a few weeks, I'll talk myself into it.

@Zulithe - xD I'm actually surprised at how good it is. I'm pretty sceptical about CG television shows in general, just because the animation and rendering is never really on par with something you'd see in the movies (Understandable, considering CG is expeeeensive, but still, it's a pet peeve). But the art direction is gorgeous and the script is really snappy and while there are a few bumps in the animation, when they nail a sequence, they really nail a sequence o_O So yeah. I'm in love with it. Hahah, and I've got to admit, at first I was like "YEAH, DONNIE, SMARTS, BO-STAFF, WHOO", but he's really only got that favourite character pedestal by an inch XDDD The characterization is really well done for all the turtles, in the nick and 4kids versions. Raph's got the best animations though >__> I'm in awe every time he's on screen. They nail his character in every single thing he does and I love the little dog growl clip they use when he gets pissed. It's haaard. There are moments when all four characters really shine in their own ways.

Since you love Nick Donnie, what's your opinion on the other versions in past series? Old toon Don was probably the most assertive of all the Don's. 2k3 Don was very reserved and Movies 1-4 Don was similar .

I actually find it really hard to pick a favourite. I'm only at episode 12ish in regards to the OT episodes, so I don't really have the basis to make a judgement on Don's personality there yet. Same with the movies... I haven't had a chance to check those out yet, save for the 07 movie, and Donnie was practically a side character in that one with about 10 minutes of screen time total.
As for 2K3 Don vs. 2012 Don.... I kind of like them both. I see them as being both very true interpretations of his possibilities as a character. 2K3 Donnie was quiet, reserved, but exceedingly kick-ass when he needed to be, which was a fun combination. He really contributed significantly to the team in terms of know how, technical expertise and overall smarts, which you really see through out the show, and I liked that they even addressed what would happen if he wasn't around- "Same as it Never Was' was maybe an extreme example (>___> That episode gets me every time...), but the series finale for Season 4 was crazy and well done and boy did you ever feel the hole left in the team without Donnie there to input some idea.

So 2K3 Donnie gets a lot of love, but I think Nick Donnie wins out just because he's probably a more accurate representation of a teenage boy who's way too smart for his own good XD: Overanalytical, kind of high-strung, and someone who sometimes thinks he knows everything even when he might not. He's got a lot of really awesome strengths, and a lot of really interesting faults that I really want to see explored. Plus Nick Donnie has a bit more presence on screen then 2k3 Donnie. He'll get annoyed with his brothers, he's got a bit of a sarcastic streak, and there's some really interesting tension between Donnie and Raph, like this brains vs brawn thing, which actually rears up just because Donnie's a lot more vocal. So I really like the new approach to Donnie's character XDDD It gives him more interactions between his bros, good and bad. Plus Donnie going crazy excited over electronics just makes me laugh all the time. Seriously, you don't know how many times I've watched "I Think his Name is Baxtar Stockman" just for this part:

"HEY GUYS, WANT TO SEE WHAT I MADE?"
"See, this is how bored I am. Yes, Donnie! I would!"
"Okay, okay, okay, remember last week, when I was scrounging around that old military junkyard?"
"No...."
"Well, I found an extremely advanced A.I. microchip made out of- get this - SELF-ASSEMBLING, CHAIN-LINKED CO-POLYMERS!"
"8D That's my favourite kind of co-polymer!"
"MINE TOO!!!"

....Wow, I didn't even have to look that up. That is saaaad.
So yes. This is my answer. And I'm going to stop now because I could literally go on for forever xD

o.o Oh, nah. I never joined any pokemon fandoms. I was more a digimon fan growing up. This is sort of the first discussion forum I've joined. Before that I spent a lot of time around roleplaying forums, but they were all Marauder/Harry Potter based.

XD Haha, that is a very odd coincidence. Nope, I'm actually just translating all the talking I do in real life onto my poor keyboard.

Actually, the username was a fluke too, since my internet handle is usually 'Ritz' or something similar. But everyone here had TMNT related names and after browsing around, I decided I wanted to join that party (subconscious peer pressure XD) and for some reason 'TheSmartOne' sounded like a good idea at the time.

You can still be an uber-fan and have a non-Turtle name. :tgrin::twink:

Hahha, iz cool, I dig this one ;)

And yes, Digimon was my love as a kid. I was addicted. It's really unfortunate that I don't remember anything about the old cartoons I loved except for the fact that I used to watch and love them...
Digimon is another thing I have to revisit.
